I think Forrest represents the ideal American in the 20th century. He’s a war hero, a successful entrepreneur, and a famous athlete. Jenny, on the other hand, represents the other end of the spectrum; the hippie, free love movement, rebelling against the system. An archetype that was seen as less than ideal for the average American in the latter half of the 20th century. At the end of the movie, they have a kid, representing how both ends of the spectrum will create the future for America
