To me, Georgina gave it away when she said, " I unplugged your cellular phone". No young person speaks that way. I don't think I've ever said "cellular phone", nor has anyone in my presence as far as I remember. That threw me off. When the cop asked to see his identification, Chris said he had a state ID . So he's a grown man without a driver's license . So much of his disposition and the fact that his girlfriend was more of the take charge personality in their dynamic was telling . From her making sure he packed his cozy clothes and toothbrush as if he was a kid, to her throwing his cigarette out the window to her mocking his every concern with a joke and him just giving up so easily on expressing himself was all telling that he was the perfect candidate for her to make his next victim . Even Rose's brother sensed that he was essentially a p**sy . All Chris did was absolve and apologize for making others uncomfortable at the fact they did weird shit .
Chris didn't have a driver's license, but the fact that he lived in NYC may have had something to do with this. Perhaps also his mother's accident had something to do with why he wasn't a driver. Clearly he knew how to drive because he drove near the end of the film. I just wanna be careful about drawing conclusions based on him not having a DL. Having a DL in some places is absolutely necessary, and in other places it doesn't seem as required. I've known a lot of people period who live in cities with great public transit who did not have drivers licenses... Many of them didn't even have cars... Some by choice.
When I recently rewatched this I heard Rod's comment-- " You know you chose the wrong guy right?"-- differently now. I hear this comment as foreshadowing that the guy she "chose" this time will be the one to undo her family's empire.
After you pointed this out I was thinking he was saying that if she had chosen him then she wouldn't be able to pull the wool over his eyes... Kind of foreshadowing too if things had gone that way. And let's talk about how Rod emphasizes that she chose Chris...
I never questioned whether Chris had a previous girlfriend or not. He does seem very reserved introverted and keeps himself maybe Rose was his first real relationship tying that in with the tragic backstory of his mother makes all the more sense as to why he formed an attachment so quickly
😂😂😂when Georgegina accidentally unplugged Chris phone how did he come up with "she don't like the fact that I'm with you" 😂😂😂😂 if anything she did it cause she don't want you calling for help lol
The part when Chris says Georgina might want to see them together is because he was referring to how when black people see other black people in interracial relationships it might bother them some black women don't like to see a black man with a white woman
Majority of BW have a problem with the actions of the BM and WW, not the relationship itself. Chris jumping to that as an excuse, rather than the truth, definitely reflects real life.
I wouldn’t want my significant other joking flirtatiously either. Not necessarily even out of jealousy it’s just disrespectful. Out of all the things you can joke about that’s how you choose to joke??
8:30 I finally got Jordan Peel’s joke! It’s from the song “im looking for a dime! Top of the line!” Ying yang twins - I think it was shout out to them 😂😂
I think Black people are just naturally suspicious. If somebody is running towards you at top speed and it's dark, most Black people would've been outta there immediately. 😂😂😂
He may have had similar experiences as Black men because of his features, but being raised by a white woman and being half White has given him access to conversations and thoughts that Black boys/men are typically taught to look out for. People know the difference and make the difference between Black and Biracial.
We find out later on in the movie that the girlfriend‘s mother had been secretly putting him under hypnosis to get him to stop smoking/testing it out so what if she did other things while he was under hypnosis maybe he did think it was weird. Maybe he did think of leaving but what if under hypnosis she put his mind at ease and maybe that is why he kept brushing off all the weird things. I’m being honest with you When I am invited somewhere in the middle of nowhere I’m already not going to go and if I do go when one weird thing happens, I am out and I wouldn’t even say anything to anybody. I would literally just leave because the girlfriend she would be fine. She’s at her parents house and one more thing there’s no way that I am gonna be the only black person in the middle of these woods and I don’t have the keys on me. The keys would to stay with me at all times I’m big on that. Also, I would never be stranded. I always have to drive my own vehicle so I could GET OUT lol. See what I did there 😅 Edit: I got to the end of video when you guys were talking about him having a white mother which I didn’t know, but I do like to watch a lot of videos and I remember watching the video saying that a mixed person that has a white mother versus a black mother are significantly different and obviously this comment is already too long so I can’t go into detail but if I find the video I will come back and post it. Trailblazing
Me personally I think Chris knew what was going on ….like his instincts says one thing but his heart is saying stay for rose …plus if you peep what chris said when Andre apologized he knew what was up saying ….im sorry the flash I didn’t know
She messed up when she said, your the only Black guy ive ever been with 😏 my exact words were yeah right definitely one of the many red flags Chris missed until ....😁
You made some great points about Chris being jealous over the groundskeeper and him being afraid that someone will take her. That is an insecurity of his that I didn't even consider. Thank you for the insight, Cheri
I think another reason he didn’t question Rose is because he wants to be desperately accepted by her family and she comes from a rich two parent home famliy and he could be jealous and desperate and she is white and maybe he thinks its better on the other side and can get a better life with her family and whiteness!
Also that angle of implicit distrust of his own kind was great! It's usually who they gravitate towards that tells me when skinfolk are kinfolk. All over management? Exclusively with not us?
I've been to a few different countries and my behavior may have been slightly different in those countries but my sense of caution if anything was actually usually heightened. Good example would be when I was in the Dominican Republic, the first thing I noticed after getting off the plane was armed security wearing camo in the airport holding AKs, I assume they were military. I took that as a bit of a warning, they share an island with Haiti which was having some problems at the time (probably still are, idk) so I'm sure that they were armed for a good reason related to that. I was in a safe resort but I was careful when I went off the property to shop, I was paying very close attention to my surroundings the entire time because it's a poor country and I wasn't looking to get robbed. Glad I did because I bought a beautiful Bob Marley painting and haggled the guy down to seriously around 1/3rd-1/4th the asking price. I could tell he was mad cuz it was one of those situations where I was starting to walk away as he caved in so as my friends continued to look around other areas, I stayed close by to watch him roll it up and put it in a tube. Glad I did because when he thought I wasn't looking, he tried swapping it out with another identical tube that for all I know was empty and immediately grabbed the real one from him! He cursed me out and accused me of treating him like a thief but I know a scam when I see one. Pretty simple, if something seems too good to be true or too easy, be careful, odds are there's a catch. Dude was trying to rip me off, he needed the money so took my offer but when he thought he had an opportunity to keep the painting and the money, he took it. I get it, it's a poor country but a deal is a deal, I'm not gonna let someone rip me off. A more extreme example would be when I was in the Caribbean islands on a cruise. On one island, a couple decided to go outside of the tourist district even though everybody was advised against it. Well, they were robbed at knife point and when the wife couldn't get her wedding ring off, he tried to cut her finger off! I don't remember if he actually cut it off or just tried to but it was bad, they had to stay on the island cuz she needed to stay in the hosptial iirc. There's a good reason they told people not to leave a certain area, that couple had to find out why the hard way unfortunately. Gotta always be careful in unfamiliar environments, not saying to be overly paranoid but use common sense and don't let your guard down...
Coming from a person who was raised by a white mother, grandmother to be exact, I was raised with certain biases and I definitely had an identity crisis growing up. I didn't know what it meant to be proud of my blackness until I went to college took a few classes did some research on my own to really appreciate and love my blackness but also acknowledge that acknowledging my blackness doesn't negate how I grew up or denying my other ethnicities. I was always praised for being light skin having "good hair". I didn't get the energy from Chris even though he was suspect about Georgina and the girls keeper I don't think he had to do with the fact that they were black I believe because they were acting off to him. The parents were relaxed at least in the beginning while the black people who work for them were acting very strangely.
I just got done watching "Pearl" (2022) and at the end when you see the close up of Mia Goth smiling dementedly with tears streaming down her face, it reminded me of the bit in this movie with the maid.
Did we ever find anything out about who raised Chris after his mom passed? What if he was raised by a white family which is very common for black kids in foster care. He was probably conditioned to side eye us and trust them. Forgive me if yal said it I’m still making my way through the full vid lol.
I think Rod and Rose's back and forth jokey jokes and flirty banter happened often and Chris was just over it and didn't wanna hear it atm. I never assumed anything more than that in the film.
I think we all felt that in the moment, but looking back it's interesting to consider what could have been happening at that point. I agree they probably joked like that all the time.
It's just too easy because she had so many pictures and been with so many guys that I believe that she has some kind of manipulative mind control to put them with those rose gold glasses on. Nothing to make them suspicions just enough for them to trust her more than she they trust anybody else. Even people that they have known all their lives you have to remember they've been doing this for a really long time
Its like the word "woke". Its now being used in a political setting (usually conservatives against liberal ideology proposed as an agenda), but I remember hearing the word woke being used to lightly make fun of black people who left traditional religion for spiritualism. Ex: "I'm not Christian anymore. I'm more spiritual. I had a spiritual awakening." "Oh so you woke now. Lol"
That’s weird. My girl shouldn’t be randomly be asking to speak to my homie unless she really got something to say! I don’t think Chris put rose on a pedestal but that’s pretty weird for them to flirt . His homeboy (TSA) is supposed to flirt to test her out Tbh. Especially after he hear Rose saying let me speak to your friend 😒
This was a fun listen… y’all be going on some sidequests 😂 too many questions to answer… you definitely have a feeling out period interacting w/ other random black folks… Uncle Ruckus, Candy’s Stephen too… “skinfolk v kinfolk” type beat. Surprisingly asking men about sports reveals alot about them black or otherwise… give a black woman a compliment and a good question on her hair, or moisturizer, and you’ll get your answer…. Trailblazer!
I mean chris was trying to relate to someone else but found something inexplicably blocking that, aka the hosts taking over, but i think rose saying he was jealous was more like a foreshadowing thing. Since they can sometimes have different physical reactions like maybe the groundskeeper looks at her in a way like *he knows*
Hey guys remember when Rose dad was talking about how Jesse Owens beat his grandfather. Maybe just maybe do you think that he had some kinda plot to get Jesse's brain into his granddad? And that's why he was running like that towards Chris because he still has some part of himself still in there. Because remember that it is Rose's grandfather they never distinctively said great-grandfather. It was just a thought I've had since I looked at the movie just to catch hidden things that I could've missed.
Interesting, but I don't think they'd want Jesse's brain. These people want to keep their own brains but they want their bodies. By the time the surgery was developed when Rose was a kid, Jesse Owens would not have been a viable option.
The thing is as a movie watcher. It's all suspicious, all it's all taken to get out. But if you're meeting these people for the first time and you don't know their quarks. But you don't know how weird they are. You can easily write it off. Besides him seein the photos of her with all those black men and women, most of the stuff could just be tossed to people Being weird
I felt as it’s she did have a problem with their relationship because we have to keep in mind that that is her grandmother and someone else’s body so there could be some prejudice there. I don’t think it was him thinking everybody was jealous of them, but more or less feeling that type of vibe because that was the vibe she was giving.
Whatever race, religion, nationality, whatever…. Not all skin folk is kin folk. And I can’t say exactly what it is but you know. Gut feeling is a real thing. Like I was taking a class in college and I was the only not white person. There was a white lady old enough to be my mother that initiated a conversation with me. I was comfortable immediately but after I was wondering why she chose me. The next class I asked her. She said her kids are mixed and she doesn’t really feel comfortable with white folks immediately bc she knows they may not be racist but too often they say f*cked shiit bc they’re biased. She was new to town also. I introduced her to my mom, they still friends 30yrs later
@AxiomAmnesia i can agree maybe the real Walter wasn't coming through, I'm more making the argument that if Chris had on "Rose" glasses, he may have felt a weird energy from Walter like he could be attracted to Rose.
Speaking of Chris being hungover of a Rose do you think that her mom gave her some kind of tips to kind of keep him sitting in the back seat but just for a tad bit to have him with blinders on
Great question! I'm thinking probably not because the hypnotizing and that would have been left to the mother. Rose knew how to manipulate enough to do what she has to do.
@AxiomAmnesia Chris calling Rod is proof that Chris doesn't have any ill or jealous vibes... Chris doesn't trust Europeans, Rose is just one person he dies trust... Notice how many times he asked about how her family would react to him being Black.... Ironically she made it seem like it wasn't a factor, when it was actually the main factor...
Body snatcher grandpa in the groundskeeper's body, was running cuz he lost to a black man in the Olympics, I think, Jesse Owens. Rose's creepy dad says, ...he almost got over it...
“Jealous” is an interesting take. Definitely didn’t get jealous. Seemed they were kidding, no? He seemed to care about Chris… down to the last scene. It was playful banter. And I don’t sense jealousy. That’s a weird take. It makes me wonder how you perceive certain behaviors irl.
I hear you when you look at the surface, but don't people often mask their discomfort with humor and smiles. One could be joking, but were they both joking? I think Rod was joking all the way in terms of the flirty stuff and he was most definitely a friend to Chris till the end. But when we were talking about jealousy, we were specifically talking about Chris' feelings.
@@AxiomAmnesiaokay. 🤷🏾♀️ I so never got any of that which is crazy because I literally grew up in a town where to this day, the black men LOVE white women. I’m definitely not there anymore but that’s neither here nor their 🤭And jealous was never the term but PROUD, yeah. Smh. Either way, interesting take.
Rose must've had all deez dudes numbers at da same time... Dey never gave us a timeline between Andre being snatched and Chris driving up with Rose .... So now we know they all don't get to the Armetidge's in the same manner.... Some willing and some unwilling ..
I also think for this tea trick to work he already have to reduce and minimize himself subconsciously and be compliant to her family and not trust himself and he is suspicious of this black because of there jobs and maybe he wants to talk to them because his not comfortable in his surroundings.
@AxomAmnesia..... I truly believe Chris not running is proof he was more afraid of the others than the brothers... If the groundskeeper wasn't black, Chris would've.... long story short the movie would've been over
Ok, this is what I think, if he was jealous, rightfully so, this is my woman! lol but I also think he wasn’t jealous I think he just had it in his head like oh.. so I’m expandable to you? You just like black guys huh? It could be my friend and you cool with that huh
I laughed so hard at the part when she said as a black person why didn’t Chris run when he seen the groundskeeper run 😂
😂 I had to ask! 😆
She got me crying 😂
Because when we see black people run, we gone run too shidd lol
nah fr, logically my ass woulda been out that place right then and there lmaoo
His biggest weakness was leaving that phone everywhere in a place he didn’t know!
Chris's biggest issue is that he kept writing off "weird shit" as "white people shit"... sometimes weird shit is just weird shit
To me, Georgina gave it away when she said, " I unplugged your cellular phone". No young person speaks that way. I don't think I've ever said "cellular phone", nor has anyone in my presence as far as I remember.
That threw me off. The body snatcher grandma keeps admiring herself, cuz she's gorgeous and keeps looking at her scar.
And when she didn't know what a snitch was 😆
When the cop asked to see his identification, Chris said he had a state ID . All Chris did was absolve and apologize for making others uncomfortable at the fact they did weird shit .

Wow, that just blew my mind
Like he's connected
Rod probably thought she was Cute
Yea but Rod was the smart one. I don’t think Rose would’ve got him like that or at least not as easy
I knew something wasn't right when the groundskeeper was hugging and greeting the guest. Since when is the help act as hostess.
But he was still in his uniform 😆

❤Love your podcasts, and your breakdowns, Cheri and Heit! ❤
Thanks so much!❤️❤️❤️
This was a fun listen… y’all be going on some sidequests 😂 too many questions to answer… you definitely have a feeling out period interacting w/ other random black folks… Uncle Ruckus, Candy’s Stephen too… “skinfolk v kinfolk” type beat. Surprisingly asking men about sports reveals alot about them black or otherwise… give a black woman a compliment and a good question on her hair, or moisturizer, and you’ll get your answer…. Trailblazer!
Yes, skinfold vs kinfolk!
Omg this is soo true!!! I think asking a black woman does she own a bonnet says alot about who she is lol.
Yes. I love the conversation.
❤️
Trailblazing🔴⚪️ I saw this 3 times in theaters 🎥
Really?
But even when we know Rose has the perfectly "good" reason for bringing him to the house so he could get body snatched? 😆
14:37 no fr bc I would’ve though a bear was chasing us 😭😭😭😭
Whatever race, religion, nationality, whatever….
Walter actually dated Rose....The same way she was dating Chris.
Well yes, but at that time the grandpa was in the driver's seat. So I don't think the real Walter was coming through.
@AxiomAmnesia i can agree maybe the real Walter wasn't coming through, I'm more making the argument that if Chris had on "Rose" glasses, he may have felt a weird energy from Walter like he could be attracted to Rose.
Yes and she dated Georgina too before grandma took over her body. Nobody was safe around Rose Armitage! 😂
She dated all of them guys
Even Andre

I knew a Guy who was Jealous of Two dudes and still been friends with them
(They Recently just have a Fallen out)
I heard there was a different ending. The police showed up not his friend so he lost in the end
Body snatcher grandpa in the groundskeeper's body, was running cuz he lost to a black man in the Olympics, I think, Jesse Owens. Rose's creepy dad says, ...he almost got over it...
Yes, that is exactly why he's running, but Chris ain't know that 😂
"And for my next impression, Jesse Owens!"🤣
😂
@@AxiomAmnesia Thank you, I'll be here all week!😉

Luv u guys 🙌🏾 enjoy ur weekend
❤️❤️❤️
Not being suspicious of typical wyte people is exactly what almost cost him his life.
15:14 idgaf im on Jupiter. If I see a black person running I’m running 😭
Rose must've had all deez dudes numbers at da same time... Dey never gave us a timeline between Andre being snatched and Chris driving up with Rose .... So now we know they all don't get to the Armetidge's in the same manner.... Some willing and some unwilling ..
I think Andre has been missing for six months or so according to the film.
She dated all of them
Even the Female and Andre

I also think for this tea trick to work he already have to reduce and minimize himself subconsciously and be compliant to her family and not trust himself and he is suspicious of this black because of there jobs and maybe he wants to talk to them because his not comfortable in his surroundings.
I haven’t seen the movie yet
@AxomAmnesia..... I truly believe Chris not running is proof he was more afraid of the others than the brothers... If the groundskeeper wasn't black, Chris would've....
long story short the movie would've been over
Yeah it's rough because we couldn't have Chris leaving too soon or the movie would be done 😆
A lot of Black Dudes who date
White Chicks always act like White People in the movies

Some of those black excellence brunch folks are treacherous. Once you start acting "too black", for them they'll leave your ass in the dust.
Also, if you are black presenting, you will be treated as such no matter how you identify
This part! Cuz folks could care less what the birth certificate says. It's all about how you present.
Ok, this is what I think, if he was jealous, rightfully so, this is my woman! lol but I also think he wasn’t jealous I think he just had it in his head like oh.. so I’m expandable to you? You just like black guys huh? It could be my friend and you cool with that huh
Hmmm ... Interesting take on this!
Trailblazing
This wasn't the point of the movie. Or else thatit wouldn't be a movie
