McGraw Nelson no? If an average is just the some of n terms over n, then it is theoretically impossible to predict with accuracy whether or not a majority of the terms is below average. For example the average of the set 60, 90, 90 is 80- 67% of the terms are greater than the average, but for the set 55, 65, 90 67% of the terms are less than the average of 70
Great video as always. I'd like to point out another possible mistake when putting together the statistics. When you link IQ with virginity/alcohol and drugs abuse there's so much cultural consciousness involved... For starters: family interaction patterns (considering intelligent parents who have social behavioral issues), being exposed to such substances early in life, not being accepted due to higher intelligence (which can lead to drug abuse because of social issues mainly), etc. Discussing the duality intelligence/drug abuse would make a great video!

With regards to the causation and correlation of the factors in this video, here is my hypothesis:
Older siblings are usually pressured by the belief that they will someday be the head of the family or be the one relied upon, so they put in more effort in studies, household chores, etc.
Breastfed children are usually children with a good(or at least a normal) childhood, so there is no pressure and anxiety at home to inhibit their education.
Tall guys do not suffer from the anxiety that plague the shorter folk, so it’s not exactly “being tall makes you smarter”, it’s “being short leads to pressure and anxiety that may interfere with studies”.
As for drugs and drinking, “smart” people usually get pressured to keep yielding favourable results, and this causes them to turn to such coping mechanisms.
“Smart” people being virgins also has a similar reason, as they usually have less time time for social interaction due to the expectations placed upon them.
“Smart” people being night owls is more of a necessity than a habit. They spend the day studying at an institution, and spend the night studying some more.
When it comes to humour, dark humour is usually represents the harsh reality rather than silly things that crack people up. For example, the apple joke in the video is considered dark because it states that everyone will die, regardless of what fruit they choose to consume, and in what amount.
I am not a musician, but I was forced to play a bit of guitar by my elder brother, so I can say with confidence that it can help improve memory(memorisation of scales and chords) and problem solving(improvising).
Personally speaking, I dislike the word “smart” as it is very vague. If someone scores a 95 on a test, it only means that he knows 95% of the answers that came for the test. There could be many more questions that someone who scored 80% knew, but didn’t come for the test. The one who scored a 95 will be considered smarter than the one who scored 80%, even if he has more knowledge.
If person A can recite the multiplication tables up to say, 20, and person B can name every single pokemon, its typing, abilities, evolutionary line, its gender ratio, its egg group, base stats, its origin game and its locations, and also has the type chart(a 16x16 square) memorised, tell me who is smarter, and who will be recognised as the smarter individual by an institution?
People tell me “Oh, it must be so nice to be smart” or “I wish I was as smart as you” or “Only someone as smart as you can solve this problem” and I hate it.
They never see the amount of effort I put in and glare at me when I call a score of 83% a low score. If they put in three hours of effort and get a score of 40%, it seems a tad bit unfair to me that I put in three hundred hours of effort and get only 95%.
They never realise that I failed to solve the same problem that I showed them, learned from my mistake, and then showed them in a quick and simple manner how to solve the problem.

@@MM-pv5tp IDK, they're rare (about 1% or something) so I never heard about the relation between them and intelligence. But, my guess is that the ratio of gifted to normal ambiverts is higher than the ratio of gifted to normal extroverts.

the correlation ≠ causation is important to remember. a lot of these things are probably caused by another common factor

Exactly. For example, maybe people who are more intelligent take some health-related things more seriously, so they tend not to smoke. It doesn't mean smoking makes you dumber. But that's how people will view this, as they seem to with every correlation that ever gets reported.
Jeff Peters you are totally correct. Like with the breastfeeding, it's probably that the mother who breastfeeds is more involved with her child's life and will support his education and teach him further on. So it's not really the breastfeeding or bottle feeding that determines one's iq and income, but how they were raised by their parents.
The college thing stuck out to me with that in that people who are made to work super hard academically and get into schools like that probably did so because of their super strict parents, which would obviously effect whether or not they were allowed to date and therefor their virginity status
Exactly, for example higher iq people tend to be more likely to have depression which can lead to alcohol and substance abuse.

@@flyingfree333 Possible. Imagine a situation with 3 people. Two of them has an IQ of 101 and the third, 98. The mean is 100 (from (101+101+98)/3). 2 are above average (101 IQ) and 1 is below (98). Therefore, it is statistically possible for a majority of people to be above average! (unless you use the median)
As a baby, I always refused to breastfeed to the point where my mom had to use a breast milk pump until I started eating normal food. I’m also really short for my age. Yet, I’m somewhat intelligent when compared to my age group

This video was mostly a list of studies that have limited sample sizes and representation. I don’t think anyone can take anything significant from this video except that we need to be skeptical of information presented to us. Cheers.
It is to bad they did not talk about the big difference found in many studies, which is the different average IQs in race unlike these weak small differences which are likely just weakly picking different IQ groups.
