    I, for the first time heard the Earls Of Leicester, Damn, I've been listening to Bluegrass Music for about 82 years or since I can remember or 5 years old. I remember listening to a Battery operated Silvertone Radio on the Farm down in Oak Park Georgia, We could hear WSM (650) all 50,000 Watts Grande Ole Opry STATIC and all that was present over the air waves.
    Point is the Earls are as good as it gets, Jerry said his Dad said they were better than the originals, Jerry said not so, Earls are here because of the Originals. Me, I think they are so good it feels good.

    The song with earl playing guitar wildwood is an old time Australian button accordian song.Interesting bluegrass version

    • @PrismRisen
      @PrismRisen 2 роки тому +6

      Well, RedWolf, "The Wildwood Flower" is actually credited/attributed to the Carter Family, lead songwriter A.P. Carter. It is cited as a variant of "I'll Twine My Ringlets," published in 1860 by composer Joseph Philbrick Webster, who wrote the music, with lyrics attributed to Maud Irving (from Wikipedia). Of course, as with many tunes "discovered" and first recorded from/in the Appalachian Mountains, they have British Isles, and/or Celtic roots....thus may have found their way to Australia from the same source(s). It has been the#1 "mastery" tune of folk musicians in the US for more than 60 years. Enjoy it all.

    • @bobthabuilda1525
      @bobthabuilda1525 7 місяців тому

      You should feel fine about your playing because music is for all of us, regardless of technical mastery.
      However, I have never understood the oft repeated statement that Earl plays guitar “like a banjo player.” He learned from Maybelle Carter and Merle Travis, two lifelong guitarists with no real connection to the banjo at all. Fingerstyle guitar has existed for hundreds of years and Earl mastered it along with own style of banjo; his guitar playing is absolutely not some degenerated banjo style

    • @rebelrog
      @rebelrog 7 місяців тому +1

      @@bobthabuilda1525 I left that comment 2 years ago and had to rewatch it just now because I didn't remember. So after first reading your comment and then rewatching the video, I stand by my original statement. However I never called it a "degenerated" banjo style.
      But I still say his right hand and the use of his thumb gives him away as a banjo player, even compared to Merle Travis. Merle played a similar two finger style that was very popular back in the day but he planted his hand with the three remaining fingers, used his thumb to play the bass line and his index to pick the melody. That's how every guitar player I've ever seen does it with the thumb from Merle to Jerry Reed to Chet Atkins to Tommy Emmanuel and many, many more. However Earl uses his thumb to play the melody all the way up all 6 strings, that's what a banjo player who is used to playing the lead with his thumb would do. Nor did he "plant" his right hand but instead curls his fingers in, also like a banjo player. I can't think of another guitar player I've ever seen do it that way. Normally the hand is planted and the thumb plays the 3 bass strings and the fingers play the high G, B and E strings. There is NOTHING wrong with the way Earl played, it wasn't a "degenerated" style, it's just what worked best for him because that was what he was most comfortable doing as a banjo player playing guitar. Mother Maybelle was a legendary founder of country music and a good guitar player but I wouldn't classify her as a great guitar player in the league of the other people mentioned.
      Respectfully, best wishes, feel free to agree to disagree, we can all have our own opinions. It's to late to ask Earl.

    There's something comfortable about all this old-fashioned down-homey stuff - howdy friends and neighbours - until, perhaps, you remember that, in the days when this show was recorded, that good ol' Tennessee welcome wouldn't have extended to black folks. Great music, though; redneck, but y'all can't help lovin' it..
