Let's journey together!
Enjoyed the journey through Muthaiga with a competent driver! My first introduction to Muthaiga was being taken to lunch at the Muthaiga Club by Joseph Murumbi (ex Vice President under Mzee Kenyatta) this was during 1973. I remember Joseph telling me that prior to Independence "Being an African, I wouldn't have been allowed to lunch here!" I felt ashamed to be British - & still am when I think of the injustices of colonialism.
Thank you. The Injustice done during the colonization period to Africans were very bad, appreciate that you feel bad about that,Most whites don't.
Michael, today the game is changed and Africans are enjoying the country.Good you felt it .
CORRECTION.. muthaiga was part of the forested ecosystems that included karura forest.. the kikuyus have set these areas for traditional ceremonies and herbs gathering, hence the name muthaiga for medicine.. the area also provided a cover as protection aganist attacks from athi or plain maasai, whose boundary was mbagathi river..
Thank you for the info.
Great info didn't know that..thanks
@Anonymous you are actually reinforcing my point. there was great land management. these lands were actually set apart for those purposes . it is known that the whole karura forest as well as lands going east upto present day city park actually had trustees, and those lands were "sustained" by curses, to whoever would think on settling or building on these forested areas. colonialist found those forests intact when they invaded upto now.additionaly, the forest cover, going all the way to mbagathi provided protection from kikuyu enemies, maasai on the athi plains...
Instablaster.
Yow truth is Kenya green some garden well manicured , Kenya to the world the place is so green,
We have a very green City, it's called the he green City under the sun. Because Nairobi is under the equator.
Southern countries are green too especially Mozambique, south Africa, malawi, zambia ,Swaziland and Lesotho
@@thatlchiponda3368 good to hear .
Just beautiful! Been down this road before. Such a beautiful vlog. Just love the narrative of the vlog as you take us on the drive. Just👌
Thank you.
Mad editing. I need to wear my seat belts for these amazing experience this year. Just beautiful. I feel safe in your drive seat as a passenger. 😊👍👍
😊😊😊😊 I have to be careful with my passengers. Thank you
Thank you so much for the history ! I hope you consider adding the historical background to more of your videos! God bless you!
Thank you, I will be doing that in future.
Beautiful sana...love all them trees n flowers. .kenya to the world
I am thoroughly enjoying your tours! I am learning so much about beautiful Kenya. My heart is being called home to the Motherland...that I have never known. Thank you so much, for doing these tours! 🙏🏾
You most welcome.
Please Sabrina if you by any chance find one of the house please contact me for housekeeping job 0714842964
I been waiting for this video like yesterday, awesome 👏 you can’t even believe you are in Kenya 🇰🇪
It was planned, executed and implemented by the mzungu that's why you can't believe it's Kenya however we have to appreciate the African leadership for preserving this beauty unlike the Nigerian military government which embaked on destroying Lagos beautiful estates creating one huge slum
Jessen Adory > that soo true , I wish all Kenya looks like this
@@simongitau3991 it is possible, with proper and visionary planning each and every Kenyan can live in such environment
No kidding this guy records to the perfection.....thumbs up man
Thank you.
Kenya can be transformed into a paradise , if we didn’t have selfish leadership.
Very true.
Nice. This makes me nostalgic..the sound is much Berra.. it would be cool if u had a caption off what street you’re on as you drive through
Great idea
Fantastic images..and am glad to let you know i lived in muthaiga and grew up here between 1975 to 1984 and left after my A LEVELS to live in south c but my parents continued living there at a house on muthaiga rise until 1999.
i now reside in the UK from 2003 i know every street and homes in that area and can confirm the former kibaki president moved there from valley arcade area along ole odume road in 1976 to muthaiga.
charles njonjo and also former vice president in the 60s Dr murumbi were probably he first africans to live here. murumbis house is along muthaiga road was converted into a kenya national archives with a collection of artifacts belonging to Dr murumbi..its probably grabbed now .
next to murumbis home was a massive home owned by the kenya railways cooperation.this house was meant to house the top management eg managing directors of the then very rich parastatal.. unfortunately..the government took over this house in the 80s to house the then minister for transport and telecoms Henry kosgei.. who even after leaving the ministry grabbed this house..for himself complete with all ameneties....house had a swimming pool and stood on a one acre Plot opposite the embassy of switzerland residence. people like central bank governor ERICK kotut moved into another house opposite embassy of ghana..people like Henry kinyua the then MD of the rich KPCU bought a house on muthaiga crescent just after the USA ambassador's residence....the kinyuas and the kibaki boys were very close andi used to see then riding their trail bikes now and then ..the kibakis lived on Tchui road not far from the njonjos and the british high commission residence. on karura avenue we had the ELIJAH mwangales..then minister for foreign affairs..from there opposite we had the italian embassy and belgium embassy residence..these homes were dwarfed by a huge home standing on nearly 10 acres of land owned by a retired british royal air force ace hero called SIR Marlin Sorsbie..this man had a huge home the size of a school and he had servants qts for nearly 40 staff. am told he died early 2000.. but not sure who inherited his huge estate..
FROM HERE still on karura avenue we had the embassy of oman .and then behind it embassy of ZAIRE and lesotho ambassador residence. along limuru road we had the indian high commission residence on a huge land next o muthaiga mini market. it was fun growing up here and i plan to make a tour once i revisit kenya by end of this year.
keep up the good work. I SUGGEST YOU REVISIT and film along karura avenue upto the end of it..fo all the inner streets from the golf club try and follow all the side roads and you will see amazing houses .go to serengeti avenue.. muhaiga close etc and also see here mama ngina kenyatta has a huge home.. i think on muthaiga close.. i can see your video only covered the main roads muthaiga road from start and then back onto limuru road only
I will revisit again, thanks for the details.
Great details
😂😂you guys must have been stupid rich
I see you haven't mentioned Jimmy Wanjigi. But then again he's new money. Excellent comment
@@jazzmancoltrane as far as i can tell jimmy wanjigi moved there post 2000 decade
Thanks for showing ❤ i love this place
You only explored muthaiga road😮...there is so much to see😊..next time swing by Tchui Rd ..Naivasha ave..and mua park rd in the heart of old muthaiga.. nonetheless I enjoyed a "sneak peek" of the neighborhood
I grew up in Muthaiga spent my childhood in the midst of the lovely greenery among the indigenous trees, they make the place cool even in the hottest months. It was amazing, I have fond memories of Muthaiga. 😊
I miss these classic AT drives with narration. Nice work.
Greenery! Love it.. seeing water puddles, did it just rain? R u able to drive around inside the neighborhood? Would love to see homes! Nevertheless thanks 4 sharing this video
It rained on Tuesday this week. I can drive inside the neighborhood though it will be the same coz of the rased perimeter walls and trees. Thank you.
One day itakuwa neighborhood zote za kenya ziwe hivi🙏🙏🙏
I hope for the same too
Please provide those drone pics which show how truly amazing these areas are. live in the UK, and nowhere here compares to Karen, Muthaiga etc, and much more.
Already have them☺️
It's a good one... I enjoyed. I wish all the kenyan residential areas would be like...
Wish that too, very green and less populated
Even the villages should be recreated this way.
It looks like the English countryside, the thin roads with potholes, the ambiance, basically everythingggg. What sells it off is that the road signs are missing and some footpaths need fixing.
Nice tour.when i came into the city of Nairobi after school i toured this residences and asked my maker to grant me the opportunity and grace to settle there or similar neighbourhood before i retire!
Guess what,my wish was granted elsewhere but similar.
Oh wow! I have thesame dream as well, hope it shall be answered someday.
I went there couple months ago this is one of my favorite places in Kenya
Ah the memories!! in the 'old days' we used to swim at Muthaiga Country Club.
Justed Subbed 💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽
Nice content 👌💯
Thank you, welcome to my channel.
Lovely to see all the greenery...the road should be re-carpeted at night
The road needs some facelift.
You are right! The homes are beautiful and the cars they own even better. The residents are cabinet members, CEOs, Ambassadors, Expatriates, prominent business people. Close by is World UNEP & HABITAT Headquarters & Massive US, Canadian, Polish, Norwegian Embassies etc. They MUST get better roads.
I agree the road needs recarpeting esp markings. But some of the reasons they are not keen to recarpet is to deter traffic. Rich people manenos
We need clear road signs and all the roads must maked to meet international standards
What's the name of the musical please.its soon soothing
Flora. Flora. Flora...
I'll always advocate for Green Spaces. How's the situation at Waiyaki Way, with the road expansion. The destruction of trees though ☹️☹️☹️?
It's sad how Waiyaki way cleared lots of trees and still more to go especially with the intented expansion to Mau summit and also JKIA to Rironi
@@AfrikanTraveller man! the destruction, will definitely be felt ☹️☹️☹️
Love the sight of green.
Thank you.
Thank you for explaining about the clustering of neighborhoods during colonization. However Muthaiga has changed a lot with many old money Kenyans as well Indians now owning homes in the area, the properties there are quite pricey for an ordinary Kenyan LOL
The place has greatly changed over time. It's way mixed this days compared to before... True the prices are crazly high.
Niiice.. Naona huku Drone ingemezwa Mjamaa 😜😜
Hahaha huku ni Balaà
Yes my embassy is here somewhere in this serene green environment. Exactly it's in Lavington but looks the same. When i go next time i'll spend a few days in Nairobi to explore it. This time i just had to administer some things at the embassy and i had no time to stay. I really miss Kenya. Greetings from a Hungarian.
Thank you for watching.
@@AfrikanTraveller Thank you for these videos. They remind me of Kenya and it's so nice to bring up memories.
@@vityke Hungary has one of the most beautiful flags..i want to visit Budapest one day.
Those old jua Kali roads again.? Even in an affluent neighborhood?
😄😄😀😀😄
We need clear road signs & all the roads must be marked to meet international standards. I don't know if their is Ministry that deals with Roads.
We surely need a department in the road ministry that deals with that.
I miss Kenya
I want to come back home
this place is beautiful, though. wow but alighting from a public transport then to enter a multi-million house is kind of outta place , lol
Lol
So beautiful
old money manenos there is one beautiful castle like hse in there very impressive
The who is who live here
The road needs re-surfacing. Lots of potholes.
Our Kenyan leaders should maintain our roads to international standards , muthaiga a high-end residential area but the road is sub-standard
Charles Njojo was the first Kenyan Black to reside in muthaiga
That fake white wannabe..
@@ksubsnovideo-yv1qe Uncle Tom ass ni@%a 😄😄
Kikuyus have resided in muthaiga before colonialist invaded Kenya!
@@bloggtalk5085 lol😂🙄
Beverly hills of nairobi
This place is beautiful but the roads are letting it down. Same goes with Runda!
Very true
If only eastlands was built without cutting trees. Atleast muthaiga was spared. We can build and leave trees without clearing everything.
Too bad they had to clear vegetation around
Hello hello
Hey, longtime. Hope you doing great.
Yeah niko fiti
Muthaiga is the 'Beverly Hills' of Kenya
The streets looked so dated. Time to rebuid those.
1:42 Jimmy Wanjigi's house on the left. 44 Muthaiga. 😉
Peter thande
They need to fix those roads. County government just eating tax payer money and seeking reelection every 5 yrs sad
Where are the homes? Just vegetation . 🤷🏿♀️
Fenced and covered by big trees
This was the best Intro Bro true Kikuyu and Masai don't fight we Intermarried long time ago and again NAIROBI BELONGS TO MASAAIS IT MEANS COLD WATER
Nairobi belongs to everyone...kenya is not for one tribe, ya all always try to divide ppl ..Nairobi is for everyone not for so called blah blah
