Good one👊🏽⚡️Their song, ‘Megitsune’ is off their first album (like Gimme chocolate). Megitsune is a much better example of how their later sound has developed. The official music video is very good as are the many excellent live performances.🦊🤘🏾

"Wasshoi Wasshoi Wasshoi Wasshoi!" Great reaction.🦊 Yes that was a shamisen you heard at the start - it is actually playing throughout the whole song.
The song title doesn't translate easily as it is a made up word - a mixture of metal and matsuri (festival) making 'Metali'.
It's a metal village holding a metal festival (matsuri) and in the lyrics (Su sings it and it is in Momometal's kabuki theatre part) they're saying we are all fools - the fools that dance and the fools that watch - so if we''re all here and we're all fools we may as well all dance.
Of course this is your favourite BABYMETAL song so far - it is the most recent one you have listened to. You still have about another 60 favourite songs to discover.🤘🦊
'Metali' is a sort of cross between 'PA PA YA', which you have heard, with it being a happy festival song and 'Megitsune', which you are yet to hear, with its more traditional Japanese elements.

    _Wasshoi!_ 🦊🤘🏮
    Welcome back to BabyMetal's journey.
We got another banger for Japanese festival or any festival around, they performed this at the recent World Tour 2023/2024 and getting the crowd going bonkers with this.
The live debut was at Apocrypha - Another One exclusive show prior to the track release, it was fun and totally unexpected, everyone was having a blast and even started with a Kami Band solo after a while without it.
There's a live proshot version at Summer Sonic Festival in Osaka released in the official summer sonic but it's heavily blocked, cool we got this new proshot version without copyright blocked. You'll notice some slight difference between the live and the studio album.
The song title is Metali!! (metal + matsuri, which is a Japanese festival) and you can hear it in the spoken section when MomoMetal is doing the Kabuki moves style.
Just so you know "wasshoi" is another shout used in Japanese festivals when men are carrying the shrine, similar to sore and soya in Megitsune and Karate. The traditional Japanese instrument you can hear in the beginning is a shamizen, also used in Megitsune.
I can totally see why they pick Tom Morello on this, the groove, the catchiness, the super energetic jump and those typical 90's vibes at funk or alternative metal live concerts.
    Next suggestion:
    - MAYA live at PIA Arena MM official MV.
Thanks for sharing this and see you next time.🦊🤘🎸

Thanks again from Japan 有難う 💛。You are correct! This song starts with Shamisen (三味線) sound. The title is a synthesized word from two words : "Metal" and "Matsuri (= festival)" → Metali.
The repetitive わっしょい "Wasshoi" is a call or yell used in Japanese festival to stoke people's exhilaration and especially to encourage the power of guys who are carrying a heavy Mikoshi (神輿) on their shoulders that is a kind of a float in Western style festivals.
The audience did get low at every venue in the world, because no one can resist following our Queen's direction. 😄 (Then they jump up from crouching posture like spring ejectors after Momoko's "Are you ready ?".)
Momometal's extravagant elocution and moves in Kabuki (歌舞伎) style and her growl gave an amazing accent in the exciting repetitiveness.
When it comes to BABYMETAL, everybody prefers live rendition to studio MV. If this video included cool instrumental intros by Western (American) Kami Band, which are played at every venue, it would be prefect. This song was one in the setlist in the 2023 North American tour (29 gigs) with Dethklok and EU/UK tour (20 gigs) and 7 gigs in Japan. (And 3 times this year)
I appreciate the devoted support by Chris, CJ, Anthony and Clint (and Ryan in NA tour).
If you want to know the deep meaning of the lyrics please check Professor Hartley's channel (Andrew Hartley).

you right about the traditional Japanese instrument and also the style of dance Momo was doing at the middle. Babymetal does alot of traditional styles in a few of their songs. this was at a festival put on by Bring Me The Horizon in Japan. Babymetal is doing their own festival next month called the Fox Fest if not mistaken. you will find out Babymetal can never be put in a box of a certain style of music because they do so many styles and blends and make it their own. been a fan since late 2013 and have watched them grow up and get big. have seen them live in 2019 at The Forum in LA. my bucklist has me going to see them in Japan. they are more a performance band than metal or rock or whatever they decide to do. wait til you see them doing BxMxC live where she puts a lot of rappers to shame with her flow and cadence.

The official. not live, video for this is a trip so worth checking out.
For one with traditional Japanese influence, if you haven't already, look at the official MV for Megitsune which is from early in their career so features Yui rather than Momo. It has 89m views so that tells you something.

Yeah... be prepared to say that a lot. In fact, there's a Babymetal expression that has taken hold with a lot of reactors. My favorite Babymetal song is the one I'm currently listening to. I think you're going to eventually agree with this statement. Anyhow, good reaction, glad you enjoyed it, it was amazing to watch them perform this live when they came to Vancouver, BC. I can't wait until they return again. I'm itching to go again. I ALMOST got to go backstage to meet them, but my guy who was able to do that for me had food poisoning the night before and was hospitalized for a few days, so I missed my chance lol. I'm never going to let him down over that!! Oh well, hopefully they perform in the same place next time they come here!

This is definitely a good example of the growth and maturity of Su's voice, not only after growing out of her chuld voice, but a culmination of years of training and improvement. Her voice was alsays powerful and she had great range, but there's a depth and richness and nuance to her singing styles now that really puts her in the upper echelon!
Also, the perfect way to introduce Momoko to the fans new and old ... with a kabuki solo!! She is indeed a badass also!
And yeah, the choreo for these newer songs have grown up with them also .. lots of more complicated tight quick movements, its a marvel to watch how in sync Moa and Momo are now .. my live shows in Houston and Dallas last year blew me away .. they played this .. they bring that insane relentless infectious energy every. Single. Song. Of every. Single. Show. Its gotta be rough on their bodies .. they're true athletes in my opinion!

  • @Ganimal83
    @Ganimal83 Місяць тому +5

Great reaction! This is one of my favorites as well. Title, "Metali" is a made up wordmash of Metal + Matsuri (Festival). Released during Japanese festival season, it utilizes a lot of traditional festival elements and Su's vocal style and their choreography is reflective of this. Momoko's part is a slight jab at the high-brow tradition of Kabuki Theater ("upper class" and male actors only). Babymetal's music is so much more than just "girls wanting Chocolate" 🤣. Of course, they do go the fun and goofy route too.
*Reasons why the fans love them so much:* Uphill battle from a fledgeling idol group with small budget to challenging the norm in the metal community. Started playing small stages for free and worked their tales off perfecting their craft. Many of their songs has very deep and uplifting meaning and some are just outright a work of art. Of course, you gotta have a goofy song in there too. They also engage the crowd many times every show, sacrifice seating and ticket revenue to extend stage for better audience engagements. Even after 14 years, they've not taken their success (and their fans) for granted. Respect. Besides, their music just slaps lol.
Suggestions (Use "For The Fox God" Channel" for live pro-shot shows with subtitles):
    *Akatsuki (Budokan 2014):* "Love Ballad"
*Light and Darkness (Pia Arena MM):* Mellow, a bit dark, but very vocally centric song.
*Brand New Day (Budokan 2021):* Grooooovy, mellow, and uplifting. Collab with Tim Hansen and Scott LePage of Polyphia.
*Road of Resistance (Pia Arena MM):* Epic battle anthem, and a staple show-closer for over a decade (although not the closer at this concert).
*Rondo of Nightmare (Budokan 2014):* Original Kami Band East intro, with a dark and ominous Su-metal solo. Perfect showcase of her vocals at 16.
*Kagerou (Legend Metal Galaxy 2020):* Kami Band West intro (these are the musician's you've seen thus far). A heavy and sassy song with attitude.
    Look forward to more! 🤘🦊

This was really a Shamisen and in this Song they hadvreally somevwirk to do. Suvthaughz about Summer fests. She wanted to do a Summer fest with her Metal Fans. But how do you give your worldwide Fans an idea how japanese Summer fests work? Traditionelle the men carry huge statues from shrine to shrine. And it doesn't matter who you are but that you are their and do your thing and everybody sings Wasshoi. For her it was an instinktiv Reaction but on the other hand it felt so deeply japanese, how do you explain this to your Fans? You could show long slides about traditions and so on. But then she remembered how do childs learn it? They simply imitade the Adults. So she simply decided we simpy show it to them and they follow us they wont quite get it, but they will get enough. And the text runs in the same direction if you watch it or participate you will look ridiculous so you simply participate. And in fact this is the real reason for these Rituals. You simply Form out of individuals a community. Another part, they made this song with Tom Morello (The God of Guitars) and they used this Song to present their new Metal, Momoko made the Kabuki parts and she growls. This was ger Moment in the spotlight. It isn't uncommon for them but while they only have 4 Albums these contain a lot of Materials from extremly simple songs like doki Doki Morning Headbanger and roads of resistance zhrough complex prog likr Tales of Destiny to The One. Every song had a reason. In the begining they had really steep jumps in their Materials. They were usefull to shock their audience tillbthey learned (Forget the critics everything we do is hard enough for Our Adience).

You really haven't heard many of the artistic songs. You've mostly reacted to the hype songs meant to fire up the live audience. This is actually a pretty repetitive song but it is totally a Japanese oriented hype song. Su does runs all the time, you just haven't seen those songs yet.

@@HIM_066xMusicReactionsRondo of Nightmare (Budokan 2014), Akatsuki (Budokan as well, but in 2021), From Dusk Till Dawn (Budokan 2021), No Rain No Rainbow (Legend S, 2017)
There's a trilogy of songs called Trilogy of Lights (Starlight, Shine, and Arkadia). Any version is great (there is, however, a special performance where Moametal played the acoustic guitar for Shine, in the Legend M concert 2019).
I personally think that THE LEGEND, from their newest album, is a beautiful song. The PIA Arena 2023 performance is a good one.
      Kagerou is a banger.
Tales of The Destinies is their most technically complex song. Probably why they've only played once (Tokyo Dome, 2016). It's super proggy and not many people are used or have a taste for lots of time signature changes like that.
There's plenty to chose, but I'd say that overall BABYMETAL is a very high energy band. Ballads are extremely rare in their discography.
