Something I’ve noticed is that with practically every other group, the quad parts are basically the snare part but around the drums, but with Paul Rennick’s writing the quad and snare parts weave in and out and through each other and everything just flows so nicely and it’s so much more interesting to listen to.

Damn nobody even close to rivals the musicality and melodic content of this writing. Its like you can hear the melody in the drum parts. UGH SO GOOD

I was surprised to see that BD had a higher composition score, if I'm not mistaken. But SCV was cleaner. BD was really on Vanguard's tail in 2017, as well.

Jim Casella, you couldn’t be more right. These guys are amazing. But bro, that samurai show 9 years ago with cavies.....Kodo drums, was legit awesome.

Casella and Rennick are two reasons amongst a half-century of reasons that the first word that springs to mind when people think of SCV is "class." Also, stupendously good drum lines.

Casella, if you reply to this, I'll go practice more, immediately. It would mean everything.

The tenors stick movements from 3:09 to 3:11 is sick!!!

    consistently perfect. well-deserved Sanford award.
Although, I don't think the tenor drums cut through on the field.

Finally a line that knows how to tune a snare.

Giulz Pugs I know, but you don't see female players in the upper battery nearly as often as Male is what I'm saying. So it's cool to see one in the world's best drumline/drum corps

I think it’s a timing thing. To me it shows how the line has such a good connection between each player. SCVs timing and everything just in general is impeccable

That girl is definitely in her comfort zone - not even breaking a sweat. Another observation: just looking at her form especially her right arm. Many snares play today "chicken-winging" with their right arm. She definitely has a natural hang to her arms and good flex in the writst. Great job!

sorry ...old school drummer here...Very clean but i dont think any individuals are as good as Tom Float line individuals of the 80s...These guys are playing too metronomic and on the backside of the beat...
no pushing, no groove , no funk...1987 Vanguard line should be nit picking.

    • @mmarzett

A very excellent point. When I marched, leaning was about all we did. This stuff today is a 12 minute physical beatdown while playing at some insane tempos. Different times, different style.

Listen to this "old school drummer"; SCV's tech.
Leave Paradox and "Street Dancin'" in the 80's bro.
