Exploring an Abandoned Wedding Venue decaying since 2020 - Pantagis Renaissance

- Starting in the 1930s, Snuffys started as a steak house but was a hidden speak easy for the NJ area built by William Robertson, known businessman who ran speakeasies during prohibition. The original owner sold the property in the 1970s, and by then, the property wasn't just a steak house. It was hosting birthday parties, proms, parties, and of course weddings. With 8 unique and beautiful rooms for different prices, guests could decide on which Renaissance themed room they wanted for their event. This is when the name was then changed to Snuffys 'Pantagis'.
Further success followed in the coming decades as generations of families gathered memories inside the beautiful stained glass windows that encapsulate the building. Along with a long list of bad food reviews, in 2020 the business was forced to shut down with no opening date in sight. Seven months into the year the owner apologetically announced the permanent closure of the event space. Not being open for nearly a year, as well as owing $600k in taxes, the building was forced to be sold at auction.
As of 2024, the building has since been demolished and in its place, a German supermarket will be built. Please use this video as a historical remembrance of what was once in this community and served countless families for almost a century. Walk around with me as if the building is still around and we are looking at it one more time. This is a remarkable location and one of my favorites. I hope you all enjoy. Thanks for watching !

A one of a kind location that I'll remember forever. With the history dating back to prohibition, and the visual experience of walking through here. Its a recipe for a great explore with sprinkles of decay mixed in. I hope you enjoy this one til the end, because each room is better than the last !
As always, if you want more history, its present in the bio !
Thank you for being here and have a good day!
The grocery store chain bought the property formerly occupied by Snuffy's Pantagis Renaissance at Route 22 and Park Avenue for $8.875 million in October.
I was married here in 2009. Less than a year later my wife was killed in a car accident. Never thought I d get to see the inside of this place again. I can remember walking down that stair way to our reception. Thank you for this brings back the good memories.
I'm sorry to hear about your wife, I'm glad this video brought back some memories ❤
💝
Wow. So sorry 🙏
I am keeping my fingers crossed for better days to come. All the best!
Wow ❤ sorry for your loss
I’ve been following Devin for a while now and every video seems to get better. I mean explaining what we are about to see, camera work and his voice. I’ve watched other explorers and they are horrible with the camera work moving so fast, talking like they have a mouth full of crap and it’s not enjoyable. But Devin by far is my favorite thank you for always sharing this stuff with us 😊❤
Thank you🥹
I totally agree! One of my favorites to watch!
I was there back in 1989. Went with my fiance' when I was home on leave, food wasn't bad at the time, but that's been 35 yrs ago. Also had a friend who got married there in the early 1990's. Remember growing up in Rahway and seeing the commercials on our local stations. Another restaurant that was around that area was called Sleepy Hollow. Great video brings back memories.
I can't believe they demolished it! So tragic!
I agree with many of the commenters, I'm surprised that the historical society or former owners didn't sell this venue to prevent it from being demolished. It's a beautiful venue. That glassware looks expensive. But the stained glass is a hug takeaway. Great exploration.
Wow, amazing explore. Those industrial dishwashers are insanely efficient. Super heated, high pressure water takes minutes to clean and sterilize the dishes.
I would think the historical society could prevent them from destroying it.
Yes Definitely
It took my breath away. I have seen hundreds, if not thousands of urbexes. Few buildings have impressed me as much as this one here. A work of art. Great depiction of the power of detail - you can see that the creators had a love of it. I could stand in one place and admire one stained glass window, one chair or woodwork for hours. Anything. I would probably have to live in this place for a few weeks (if it wasn't for the mould) - and it would probably be one of the best weeks of my life. Human beings are poor in their lack of awareness - we live our lives as if nothing ever happened, unaware of what beautiful places surround us. I am not a fan of minimalism, I also believe in both detail and high quality. This whole building looks great even today - irrefutable proof that good taste and high quality are eternal. Apart from the basement - there is a strictly apocalyptic vibe. I wonder if the mould problems were caused, for example, by insufficient heating or plumbing problems? Is it this year's or last year's exploration? Demolishing such a work of art is downright criminal. I wonder if anything has been saved - even the stunning stained glass windows.
This was explored a couple years ago
@@DarkExploration Wow! It appears that you have learned the secret of eternal youth while visiting hundreds of beautiful abandoned places! You don't age at all.
@@hi.panorama aha. The adrenaline and beautiful buildings keeps the soul young
I watched this video and didn't realize until I looked it up afterwards that I passed this place everyday on my way home from worked. I had wondered what it looked like in the inside. Thanks for getting in there before they destroyed it.
Absolutely beautiful place. So sad to hear its gone now. Thank you for showing us this gorgeous building.
@@Icless666 That’s your opinion.
Great video but so sad. This should have been saved, such beauty and artwork.
All that mold, I have to say - For your safety, if you're not already I'd highly recommend bringing masks in case of other explores that end up having mold. You don't wanna get sick from that stuff!
That said, this place was BEAUTIFUL, and it's a shame it's gone.
I saw a review online from an Aileen from 10/10/20. She couldn't have said anything better about the place. So cool to see that and what I am not guessing is her keepsake from their wedding that had been sitting there.😮😮🎉
You would think they would have had an auction for the restaurant equipment.
@@Icless666amish do them all the time for helping the community fund schools etc.. its a few chairs and a mic systems lol, ironically all there sitting!
They could also remove and resell a lot of those stained glass windows. I'm not sure about the giant stained glass ceilings, but the windows. could be removed and sold, just replaced by plain glass.
Can only imagine how the stained glass looked backlit. Mustve been so spectacular😍
What a shame, all that woodwork is worth 10's of thousands. You would think someone could find a way to repurpose a lot of that material. Especially the marble floors and the hardwoods have to be worth something to someone.
100% yes
My friend works for a demolition company and they absolutely strip the place first and sell the historical details in a resale shop. More money for them and people can recycle it. I got some delicious cookies from them once. 😊
I’m with a lot of other commenters . The fact this was demolished is really a shame . The beauty of the woodwork ,the stain glass, and you can see the elegance . In 2024 this place could have been sold to someone with the finances to bring it back and make a fancy restaurant or a Wedding Venue again . Beautiful work on your videos !! Great camera work ,Good history about what we as an audience are about to see and great voice work . Not a rush job very classy !! I just came across your channel June 22 . My name is Laura and I’m from Canada . I’ve subscribed and notice your videos are long format which I like and WELL DONe . I’ve seen other channels like this and they are rush rush and little to no History background of the site . Boring !! Look forward bro more great content ❤😊😊👍🏻👍🏻☀️😎😎🌺🌺🫶🏻🫶🏻🇨🇦🇨🇦
Those dishwashers do clean way better than you think. The hot water alone would scald a person. Then you have the steam dryer.
What a gorgeous place with a really bad name. Where are you getting married? An Snuffy's!!! Lol😂
You know I watched about five of your films this evening and you have something going on man. You truly care and love what you’re doing and you’re not all about how many views you can get. ( you should have millions )That’s obvious.
I just finished this Snuffy’s video, enjoyed it immensely and after it was over, I went online to check more about it and saw that it was just demolished this year… I was instantly sad but thank you for preserving this piece of amazing history when you did. Otherwise, it would’ve never been part of my life.
Keep up the excellent work .
We’re all proud of your accomplishments and how you share them with everyone … Be well!
Thanks for taking the time to type those beautiful words. They mean everything to me. That's why I create
Why are city's tearing places like this gorgeous venue down. It really makes no sense. Why don't they sell it to someone who could run it, or replace/redo how this place could be used. It's just a complete waste to demolish such a beautiful place. This is a shamful waste of resources, content, memories, fun, and remembrances.
What is a city going to do with a dated, gigantic, insane wedding hall? It’s not the city doing anything, someone bought the land to build something else.
Fun for an explore, but this is a relic, and the East Coast is always ready to build over the old to make way for the new.
The owners owed over 600k in taxes that couldn't be paid. So the land was put up for auction for highest bidder. German super market now is sitting on the land when all the ornate details are in the garbage somewhere
@@DarkExploration
That is so sad, we Americans are so wasteful, and it is such a shame.
@@DarkExplorationSeriously, they didn't even attempt to sell off the Furniture or fixtures?
With a bit of reworking, the place would have made a nice senior residence. Such a waste.?
I actually worked in a place with that kind of dish washer, they worked remarkably well.
@@lissanne9769dude it has zero to do with us as a whole... new jersey is a huge area of waste
Wow im seriously mourning the loss of this places. Its amazing you were able to document this.
Tks for this great video Devin..The place is absolutely fabulous!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I totally agree, this place is just gorgeous! All of that beautiful wood and the stained glass is just fantastic!! I sure hope someone can save some of that stained glass and the wood. The doors alone are just beautiful. Thank you for this one, I will not forget how wonderful it is. After my comment I read what you wrote, I cannot believe it has been demolished, such beauty!
It was such a magnificent place.Wonder if it was too much for them to keep up care for like it should have been so they slacked on full care. That mold looks like it's been in the making longer than when it was shut down been on going for a time and with no heat maybe dehumidifiers it took off. Love the great videos and the way you present them.
Wow I didn't know this place had such a history and was shut down! I used to drive over to visit my wife when we were dating in 2016-2018 in fanwood NJ and took the backroads off of 78 exit 41 and popped out onto park ave! I enjoy your content man and personally its cool to see your videos since we both live in the tri-state area! Be safe and take care brother!
I didn't know about the place until it shut down. Awesome history and pretty cool place. Thanks for commenting !
What an amazing building, stunning stained glass and woodwork. Such a shame that it will be demolished. Thanks for sharing!
Hey Devin and Chris, I have worked in a supermarket cafe and washed the dishes and cutlery with a smaller machine than those in the kitchens. We were told just to wash them all once but they didnt come out clean so I put them back another time and the girl with me agreed as I used to eat there when my mom was alive and I didnt want salmonella poisoning or my mom. So yes you are right they do not clean them at all. One awesome thing is that the place was absolutely gorgeous and the stain glass windows wow. Shame the food wasnt up to scratch though. Thank you for showing us around xx
Food being left behind like that is a new wrinkle I've never seen before (other than something like canned/jars food in an abandoned house).
The "main ballroom " was just so beautiful with the wood and stained glass. ❤
Wow very amazing place, thank you so much for sharing a beautiful memories of the building, but it's so sad it was demolished.
Wow what a beautiful place, it’s such a shame. Love all the wood and stained glass so much but all the other things like the glasses and plates and chairs ect could be sold and used. Love the explosion but it really pisses me me that these beautiful buildings are just left and all these things just going to waste 😡 but anyway thanks you guys 👍❤️
That's very beautiful
Wow this place is beautiful! Why would anyone want to tear down a place like this! What a shame, how sad! ❤️🤘👍
Great attention to all of the so many details in this beautiful place! So many things to see and as always, you capture them all Devin! ❤️
I will never understand the destruction of these Beautiful Buildings...so glad you caught this before its gone for good. I really appreciate that you look right at us in the Camara 👀Makes me feel a part of the explore 😺 Many explorers look around while talking into the Cam. Your awesome Pal. Thanks so much. Take care and stay Safe🤗 Donnie
Great video as always. I always look forward to your videos. It’s very sad to see such an amazing building abandoned and waiting to be demolished. I hope that a lot gets reused instead of destroyed. The glasswork is beyond amazing. Thanks for sharing!
I love your videos. I found you from The Proper People. I would love it if you maybe talked about 50% less though. Not every thought needs to be spoken on camera. Let us explore too.
Great video and wonderful find, thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it
It’s tragic how the pandemic has disrupted many local businesses with so much history left behind, just for yet another grocery chain to be built in its place 😒
I've seen this place over the years. Too bad it was demolished
i hope they saved the stained glass!
This has the most beautiful and artistic woodwork i have ever seen! I wonder who the designer was? Thank you so much for showing this. It had to take years to conmplete construction. Incredible !
Amazing explore, but I've never seen so much kitsch in one place 😅
my thoughts exactly LOL
Monumental Rococo kitsch...
So gaudy😂 like an 80's\90's themed restaurant.
That name is enough to bankrupt any business
I love your videos so much Devin! You should come to the Midwest and explore keep up the good work!
Sad to see was once a beautiful place replaced by a modern place that in 50 years nobody will care about !
Great video 👍
That was a beautiful place. Such a shame. Loved the video, as always!
Nice,fantastic Venu 🎉
Awesome awesome UA-cam videos joy watch your all your UA-cam videos so amazing and coolest videos
Great explore mate. I think we should run a competition to see how many times you said ‘beautiful stained glass’ throughout the video ;) I explored an abandoned bar closed due to covid, and the kitchen area was rancid with the smell of rotten food. It never really leaves you that smell, gets right up in the nostrils.
Very cool place! Love seeing old restaurant stuff! 😊😊😊
WOW!! WHAT A FIND ,,, SHAME ,SHAME ,, HISTORY!!!!
Really?
Thanks for awesome video I enjoyed watching
It’s so dreamy 😍
All gone now. It is being developed. Snuffy's was iconic even before the wedding upgrades. One of my customers at work would bring us pastries from Snuffy's were he worked. Lidil or Aldi is going to be built where Snuffy's was.
I worked in a cafeteria and you spray set up the dirty in the trays and then spray them before you put them through. It was hot and dirty work
Wow! Those stained glass windows 🎉
Wow! That’s some room! ❤❤❤❤❤
Love this! You should try to explore north ritz club on Long Island. Loved the catering hall vibe maybe we can get another one.
What a shame for a beautiful place like that go to waste one of the best wood grand architect Stainglass video I ever seen super nice place wouldn’t take much to clean it up most likely redo the basement strip everything out make it look all new and redo the kitchen, but either that That’s all I needed but super nice place one of the best old school video I ever seen
Okay so... I watched the video finally. And I have to say, it is a shame anyone didnt loot the place down.
Yeah, I know what people will say, its theft and so on. But I dont really care anymore. Times are getting tough, and its not easy to start a business from scratch.
Over here in the early 90s quite a lot of people looted, and sometimes literally stole tools, machinery, and other stuff from their former workplaces, as it was the time when lots of industries went down. Guess what, the same people often ran their small businesses with that stuff, and earned pretty money, to this day having brand new cars and big houses.
Its either someone uses it, or its going to get wasted.
I never took a single thing from a working venue, but if I were to explore an abandoned one, I wouldnt hesitate. Thing is, everytime I went into one, someone was quicker than me, and later on I seen all those glasses at local craigslists.
And now for a bit of a personal story...
Earlier on I mentioned my grandparents manufacture. I used to work for some time there. When I knew that the closure is coming to an end, I pretty much rescued everything from over there that was worth rescuing. Even handtools.
I felt like this is needed. It wasnt an easy task, as I had to rent a trailer, pack and then unpack everything. Plus it was a hot summer.
And guess what. The place got raided very shortly after, and all those things could easily get stolen.
I pretty much saved the stuff, and it is safe. New owner does not care, but in case he would need anything, Id be happy to lend him.
Lesson learned: dont leave stuff behind. There was plenty of time to secure this.
Thanks for documenting this very sad sight. Especially it hit me personally, because I was in 2 relationships before, that were supposed to end with marriage. Now in my current one I had to postpone the wedding for a few months, as I do not have enough money...
What a beautiful building. So disappointed it's left to destruction. Excellent video❤❤
I really hope some of that stained glass was recycled... some of the pieces on the doors are stunning
Wow very Beautiful Place. 👍🏻👍🏻
This was amazing!
Awesome video as always! I was laughing at the food on the plates. Can’t tell exactly what it is but it looks like some type of meringue cookie or whipped cream but I don’t think it’s original flavor was chocolate 🤢🤮😆
Looks good nice place awesome
AMAZING!! 😍
Very strange to let a building like this deteriorate and allow it to be demolished.
Great good video
commercial dishwasher use very high heat plus chemicals to clean. That’s why they can clean in a few minutes compared to yours at home that takes 2 hrs to cycle
💗💗
Very beautiful and Such a shame..I doubt that in this day and age they would not build such places anymore.I could be wrong but Thanks anyways..
Would be incredible to see this place if it’s still empty in 10 years time.
surprised it isnt looted like most of jersey heh
The pandemic didn’t shut down businesses. The government did.
❤
❤❤
Wow😱
Where the hell is ReStore on places like this?
Very wasteful society
How could anyone want to demolish this building
A beautiful place, very bad that they are demolishing it, they still could have used it for weddings with a good cook.
This place is amazing! I hope this place gets repurposed because it’s too nice to be demolished! The evidence left behind at 22:00 and 34:35 indicates, to me, that the people working here intended on coming back or else they would not have left it like that!
Apparently, it's been torn down already and replaced with a supermarket. What a stupid, heartless waste.
Not knocking the video at all - it's good as always, but this might be the first place explored wherein I feel no sadness for the vacancy or demolishment. It might be a grand place, but it didn't look or feel special imo. It gave country club vibes from this side of the screen. Probably would have been amazing 100 yrs back during the 20's and 30's for parties, though.
I'm sure people had wonderful memories of this venue and maybe it was different in person but for me it looks like a place they tried to make classy but it comes across as tacky.
Beautiful place. Such a shame. Someone should at least reclaim the wood and stained glass wondows
Nah they want to redevelopment the whole business district and everything with substantial land. It's not the only older business that is just a memory.
I think those plates were ONLY whipped cream. The stuff in cans has stablizers and stuff in it to make it hold it shape and not "melt" when it gets warm. My guess is a previous explorer closer to when the place closed did that using the already old whipped cream to stage a photo. Gross.
Hi
Why did they close these weeding Venu sir?
Because 'twas bad
Money. People are in business to make money, not lose it.
Sir did feel any negative energy inside of Venue?
Life is a demolition....love ones etc...what is the point...
Vanity of vanities, said Ecclesiastes vanity of vanities, and all is vanity. - Ecclesiastes 1: 2
“We we’re just transported to Europe today”
Built in the 1930s, the wood, windows, tile were likely crafted by European immigrant artisans
There was one room, where people could get divorced.
this place reminds me of shrek in the best way
This place should have stayed a place for people to get married smh
♥️♥️👍🏻
