I saw your videos in 2010...and i never went back to mach3 and gillette fusion again...... i look forward to my daily shaves with safety razors. Thankyou geofatboy.
Wow..The R41 twist is awesome. Don’t be afraid of the beast, I’m a noob (have only shaved a little w the cheapo micro touch one) and I just shaved with the R41 for the 1st time with an Astra SP and no blood. Amazing results... Thanks for the pointers GeoFB 👍
I never had much luck with the original R41 (the most aggressive of them all I believe) so ending up pifing it on one of the forums. When I need to mow down a few days growth I always reach for my Merkur slant bar! Your vids got me hooked on old school wet shaving about 4 years ago and I'm still loving it!
Thanks Castor. Do you roll with the 37C slant which looks like the 34C or the 39C Sledge Hammer mode which is larger with the barber pole handlel? BTW-Great UA-cam handle from a great movie with lots of memorable quotes.
+geofatboy the 37C is my go to, usually a one pass shave is good enough for me :) My fav scene from Face Off was Nicolas Cage singing hallelujah with the girls choir. Classic.
Hey Geo! 👍🏻
Grazie Emanuele! via Google translate: Geo Hey! Muhle R - 41 the most aggressive, a real guillotine! You use it with ease and safety with your experience as a real barber! Big Geo! Greetings from the ' Italian! P.S. Sorry if I write in Italian but I know English well !!!
your vids also got me hooked almost a year ago. I made the mistake of attempting to save money starting out by getting a vintage gillette. They are good razors but light and a year later I am barely breaking my pressure bad habit.
Nothing wrong with having an old school Gillette razor in the rotation. But I would fill out the rest of the lineup with a medium shaving razor like a 34C, R89, or Edwin Jagger DE89. And then at the top end, a beast like this. For those days when you don't want to mess around.
+geofatboy I agree completely I love the Ikon 101 and I am considering a futur soon. I love my vintage gillette but my advice to new wet shavers is don't start with one. You can put pressure or mess up the angle and it will not bite. It is a safe option but teaches bad habits in my opinion. On another note is the futur good for 2 to 3 days growth?
The Futur is excellent for light, medium, or heavy beards. The adjustment feature lets you set it to the beardage you're dealing with and the shave you want to obtain shavenation.com/search?q=futur+razor
Hey Geo, I own the previous model so can appreciate the smooth shave you performed! Was wondering if the new one is also more aggressive than the old one or is the difference just with the design and number of pieces?
Great video! Muhle makes some awesome razors. My beard comes in quite thick, but I have been leaving a face beard and shaping it up recently and I'm not sure if an aggressive razor would be choice seeing that you kinda have to keep going over certain parts when getting that symmetry down. But still might be good to have when I decide to go clean.
Thanks Boom! This is really a sweet razor. The handle is thicker than most and it shaves like the dickens! Agreed, you may want something milder if you're just lining and trimming. R89 DE89 34C something along those lines.
Great Video and also a great razor. I own the previous model. It has a good weight and a great quality as well. I totally agree that the R41 definitely is not a razor for beginners. Regrading the after shave: A pink colored aftershave with a rose smell is not my after shave :-). Have a good weekend.
Thanks Werner, Regarding the aftershave... Like I said, it was a tester. it also comes in Sandalwood and Limes. I think you can tell by my "OH" reaction that the scent kind of surprised me a bit. It does go on nice though and leaves a nice sheen on the face without being greasy. Take care.
I've always enjoyed watching your videos and that is a cool looking cap you're wearing. Is this razor going to be gentle enough for everyday shaving because currently I'm using an Edwin Jagger DE 89 which is a mild razor? my concerns is that around my adams apple and the dimples of the neck it's very hard to get those hairs there with just one pass and I'm trying to cut my shaving time down.
I use the R41 Twist with Feather blades every early morning, sometimes the R89 Twist. I like both a lot, R41 is a much closer lasting shave tho. The spring inside on the R41 got stuck or broke, I don't even know what to do about it, any advice? I remove the blade every time and store both razors on Muhle upside down stands. What went wrong with the R41 Twist? 🤔
Great video, thanks for posting. Always good to see new products in action. What do you think of something this aggressive for shaving your whole head? I'm not a novice, have been doing it for 2+ years with my old standard (Merkur 34C) but thinking I'd like to try something a bit more aggressive (the one pass sounds appealing for me!) Thanks!
Hi Nick, with your experience, it would probably be fine. Just use the mantra-"light-touch" and go a little at a time. Start with your easiest areas first, then finish up with your 34C. Keep using this method till you don't use the 34C any more... Until you want to :)
Hi. Is there a safety razor + blade combo that has matched the closeness in shave of a straight razor? What razor is that and what blade? Thank you. God bless, Proverbs 31
Hey Geo, thanks for uploading this video. Your wet shaving vids helped get me into shaving this way & I've never looked back. I've been looking at the R41 off and on, but wasn't a fan of the 3 piece design. I'll definitely need to reconsider buying one. How would you say it compares in aggresiveness to a Gillette fat boy dialed to 9? Thanks in advance.
What's the life expectancy of muhle razors? I had an Edwin Jagger DE89 which only lasted a year before the bolt sheared off inside the handle. I wasn't over tightening it and I always thoroughly dried the razor after each use.
There are a lot of razors that get tossed into those 2 categories, but I'll say that generally the slants are more aggressive. The twist/torque/skewed/ position of the blade works in a scything motion to slice whiskers off with reckless abandon!
Not sure if it is because I put little or no pressure on the R41 but I can't seem to get BBS with one pass just like you. How do you do it? After one with the grain pass, I still feel some stubble. I end up actually doing three passes following your guideline of "it's beard reduction not removal' practise. So how do I get a one pass BBS shave with the R41? Could it be the blade? I am using Derby.
You're never going to get a true BBS in one pass. Geo may appear BBS in the video, but keep in mind he's a few feet away from the camera. If he rubbed his face against the grain, I'm sure you'd still hear resistance from hair.
Paul McPherson thanks. You are right. I have since I posted this been using Astra blades on my R41 and it's awesome. I shave with this daily and love it so much. after two months, my technique has improved and the shave even closer. To all those on the fence with this razor, don't be. I won't lie, all these videos and peoples posts are intimidating BUT as I did, I tried it, use little pressure and you will be rewarded. My biggest challenge now is trying to keep from buying all the different high end shaving creams!
I’ve had mine for a month and love it . It was my first safety razor at that lol and I was watching so many “Wet-Tubers” on here tryna decide LOL I have the regular 3-piece Muhle R-41 I only have 2 soaps my first was Proraso Red and now I also picked up Stirling Barbershop 💈 so I know what you mean about wanting to collect more shit!!! 😁🤙
I got couple of those organisers. Shave Nation's look great. If you live in the states buy from Geofatboy. I'm in UK and found something similar on Amazon. Had to buy there because of postage costs from US.
Sorry you didn't reach your release point. If you want to see 3 passes you can check out some of my other videos... Regarding this razor, my aim was to show that you can get pretty damn smooth with just one pass. Some people don't like to perform 3 passes. If you're a one and done type shaver with heavy beardage-this would be your razor.
Great review! I'm an lover of the merkur 34c, but feel it takes a few passes with get close. Do you think I'll notice an upgrade with this r41? Any help would be appreciated sir thank you
I thought the r41 with the non replaceable handle was the 2011 older model and the version with the replacable handle was the newer 2013 model. Anyone can shed some knowledge of how to tell which is which, because one fact I do know is the older one was made to be more aggressive.
Dunno, but if you look Muhle site there is 3 different version of R41 ATM. One is R41, then R41 Grande and R41 Twist. R41 is 3 piece model, R41 Grande slightly more narrow and a bit longer and heavier, R41 Twist is 2 piece model.
hey mate, it is my first time I'm researching DE razors, want to make the transition from gillette fusions, its fucked my skin with nicks and rashes over the years cos I have sensitive skin. I was wandering what you would recommend for a beginner with sensitive skin and relatively thick grain facial hair ( i must shave every 2-3 days)? I have looked at the Mühle R89 as its meant to be good for amateurs but in a review they rated aggressiveness a 4 and that its not recommended for people with thicker facial hair so i'm confused haha. cheers.
In my opinion Muhle is far superior to Merkur. With this new twist design, you don't have to worry about blade alignment like you do with Merkur and the blade is stable is hell. Shaved this morning with my R41 Grande and I must say, this is the most efficient razors that I own and I have Above the Tie and Mongoose, good razors, but I get baby butt smooth shaves every time with the R41. Hey I am a Black man and I've never used a double edge shaver before so what shaver would you recommend? Because I am trying to find a shaver to shave my head bald.
Try a Merkur Heavy Duty "HD" if you keep your head bald, something like a Merkur Progress or Gillette Fatboy (if you can get your hands on one) are adjustable blade exposure which can work with different hair lengths in case you decide to let it grow sometimes. Blades I love are Astra Superior Platinum and Supermax Super Stainless. (Israeli red Personna blades seem to be most popular on the forums) My favorite cream is now discontinued, but I really like Geoff Trumper shaving cream.
Hey Geo, been watching yourself, Nick Shaves and a few others over the past week after having a shocking open razor shave at a barber shop near me. As a result I had my first DE shave today which was awesome and I have started my own little UA-cam reviews, opinions and vlogs! Would be awesome if you ever had a moment to have a look and throw a couple of like out there! Awesome job man!
Done! That's what happens when you upload videos near the point of exhaustion... Oops-I forgot the Umlaut! If it's any consolation, it was all correct in the subtitles. And now its correct in the title... Thanks to you!
Beware the Mühle blade that comes with the R41! It sucks! It's totally blunt and gives you the wrong impression of what a razor the R41 is. Get a feather blade or another blade that is sharper and you're gonna love the R41.
starlodear Feather`s are too aggressive for me, I like a mild razor with moderate blades, or an aggressive razor with mild blades :) Then again I have this downy scandic beard growth, hehe.. Great review Geo

Great video, thanks for posting. Always good to see new products in action. What do you think of something this aggressive for shaving your whole head? I'm jelly of that razor collection, throw me a bone here I got RAD!
Hi. Is there a safety razor + blade combo that has matched the closeness in shave of a straight razor? What razor is that and what blade?
Thank you. God bless, Proverbs 31
I reccomend you ask that question on a shaving forum, like Badger and Blade. You will get much quicker responses.
Your mileage may vary
What's the "TWIST" appellation for ? what's the feature vs the regular R41 ?
Great shave and review!
Thanks Boss!
Great Vídeo! Thank you from Santiago de Chile!
How does Muhle R41 compare with the IKON Tech in your opinion?
King Pin I like ur profile pic of “Bogey”

I haven't used my Fatboy in a while but from what I remember, it set at nine is still not as beastly as the R41.
+geofatboy thanks for replying. 😊
What's the life expectancy of muhle razors? I had an Edwin Jagger DE89 which only lasted a year before the bolt sheared off inside the handle. I wasn't over tightening it and I always thoroughly dried the razor after each use.
R41, use 3 years. The main thing is not to drop
Hi Geo, great video as always. In terms of aggressiveness and efficiency, which type of razor is more - slant bar or open comb?
There are a lot of razors that get tossed into those 2 categories, but I'll say that generally the slants are more aggressive. The twist/torque/skewed/ position of the blade works in a scything motion to slice whiskers off with reckless abandon!
Thanks for your reply. I hope one day you get the chance to do a comparison of the different slant bar razors out there.
What do you recommend for a beginner with heavy heavy beard?!
Awesome Video Geo, thank you!

Impressive one pass shave!
Thanks Brian, as I said, it's efficient. Great for one and done type shavers.
yes, geo, that sweet, sweet lather.... love the video!
Good video yet again.. Where did you buy that organizer behind you
Thanks Boorad G-Here is the link to the razor organizer behind me in the vid: shavenation.com/collections/cases
I got couple of those organisers. Shave Nation's look great. If you live in the states buy from Geofatboy. I'm in UK and found something similar on Amazon. Had to buy there because of postage costs from US.
can you pull the bottom knob out like on the 34c for cleaning? or is it fixed into the handle? thanks
Hi GFB. Have you tried the OneBlade. I'm not sure about it. Would be interested in your opinion.
Have not tried the OB...
Man, you just did one pass?! I was looking forward to three passes.. you just did the shaving equivelant of blue balling😭😭

is the shaving the same as 3 parts R41? is twist version more aggressive?
when are you gonna do a review of the Merkur blades
I think I have used the Merkur blades in my earlier videos. In safety razors and shavettes I believe.
Great shave! Nice razor! I need to get one! (VLS)
Great review! I'm an lover of the merkur 34c, but feel it takes a few passes with get close. Do you think I'll notice an upgrade with this r41? Any help would be appreciated sir thank you
great video. Always spot on.
Nice! Thanks Brian.
So no difference besides the build?
3 piece ~> Two piece right? Same razor
Yes, easier to load the 2-piece razors though.
I'd love to have one of those Chubby 2 brushes, but they are way out of my price range.
Yes, they are pretty expensive... More reasonable when you stretch the cost over how many years you will be using it.
I thought the r41 with the non replaceable handle was the 2011 older model and the version with the replacable handle was the newer 2013 model. Anyone can shed some knowledge of how to tell which is which, because one fact I do know is the older one was made to be more aggressive.

Amirryy Merkur 34C, 38HD "Barber Pole", or their 3 piece long handle. Pair it with Astra blades!
Muhle R89 Twist OR Muhle R41 Twist?
You want medium or beast mode?
shavenation.com/collections/muhle-safety-razors
@@geofatboy i want something medium 😃
My man geo!
Sweet! Thanks!
For me it's the "Razor of the gods" By the way, due to my obsessive compulsive nature and love for this damn razor, I own 4 additional R41's as backups to my main R41.
Nice Tony! You got yourself covered in case they ever stop making the R41. Damn near one for every day of the week :)
Geo, does the Muhle/EJ top plate fit to 3 piece Merkur safety razor?
Interesting... I haven't tried that yet. When I get back to the shop I'll have to check it out. I'm guessing it would though.
Impressive display.
Thanks! I like having my weapons within arm's reach :)
whats more agressive the R41 twist o r the mekur future
I own the Merkur Futur and I can tell you that the Futur is definitely more aggressive because a)you can adjust the blade gap and b)the blade exposure is wider. I'd venture to say that the R41 is about as aggro as the Futur at 3.But I get perfect bbs shaves with no weepers and nicks at 6 with a feather blade. The Futur is a masterpiece. There simply is no other razor more aggro (yet smooth)than the Futur.
What do you like more? open or closed comb razor?
I love them all... Open, closed, slant, straight :)
*****
you really the King of razors , dude! Thanks for the answer.
(Israeli red Personna blades seem to be most popular on the forums)
My favorite cream is now discontinued, but I really like Geoff Trumper shaving cream.
Hey Geo, been watching yourself, Nick Shaves and a few others over the past week after having a shocking open razor shave at a barber shop near me. +geofatboy would be honoured, your like a shaving God on here lol!
Nice vid!
Thanks Rob!
How aggressive is the mekur 23 c?
The 23C and the 34C have the same head. I use mine to shave my head, haven't nicked myself yet.
This is indeed the most aggressive razor I've ever used
Agreed, I place this well at the top of the list of aggressive shaving razors.
All hail the 41
Please use the correct letter it's ü not u. It's a completly different letter in german. It's like witing leo instead of geo 😉
Done! That's what happens when you upload videos near the point of exhaustion... Oops-I forgot the Umlaut! If it's any consolation, it was all correct in the subtitles. And now its correct in the title... Thanks to you!

Thumbs up!
Udo Sauer My keyboard doesn’t have that.
Never seen this.
What-the R41 Twist?
Yes, it is. This modification of the R41 model. It is good that there are stores like yours, where people can buy it.
Beware the Mühle blade that comes with the R41! It sucks! It's totally blunt and gives you the wrong impression of what a razor the R41 is. Get a feather blade or another blade that is sharper and you're gonna love the R41.
starlodear
Feather`s are too aggressive for me, I like a mild razor with moderate blades, or an aggressive razor with mild blades :)
Then again I have this downy scandic beard growth, hehe..
Only blades I really don`t like are the merkur`s, but Derby and Rijk work best with my beard and skin.
I think the Mühle blades work well for a lot of people, we`re all different ;)
But the Mühle R41 doesn't work with mild blades. Give it a go with the R41. You will survive. It's just a shave
