Why was this not a massive hit ? Beautiful tune, great lead and harmony vocals, excellent arrangement and that sweet, soulful guitar . WOW............ The Shads Rule.
Not really. He played the guitar like nobody's business, stylishly elegant being his signature style. But a great singer he was not. This song has a rather Dire Straits feel to it and might've been a bigger hit if DS had written it. Nevertheless the album was imo the last real Shadows album with original material and a worthy exit.
I agree Guardian Angel is a much underrated album some excellent instrumentals and good vocals, this being one of them.Glad to see I am in a minority of two as opposed to a minority of 1.
I see the actual writer of the song has recorded this wonderful song recently. Find - Coil (I'm Gonna Be Your Guardian Angel) on youtube. Not The Shads, of course, but a memorable track all the same. Really good video of this great song. Gonna be on I-Tunes etc soon. Must have it!
The Shadows goes Dire Straits in inspiration. I like the tune, although I was never fond of Dire Straits. Great Playing, and what a great sound on the Snaredrum !!! Great Guitar work from master Hank Marvin, and great Interpretaion from the whole band.
I've been a shadows fan for 50 years ,how did I miss this one , its awsome , sounds like it's Bruce on vocals . Anyway I have just order the CD today. Many thanks for bringing this number to my attention. PS. Don't you think it sounds a bit like Chris Rea. Fender Fan Pete
Such a great honour that The Shads recorded my song. Such a wonderful performance. Great to see it on You Tube, too!

The writer of this song is a genius.
This is possibly my favourite vocal track by the shadows.

The best song from the best Shadows album ever.
Never seen them perform it live though .
Hank is an awesome singer. This should have been a big hit!!!

I have loved that one from back in the 80's i remember they were mistaken for Dire Straits because of this one
Love this song, but can't find in itunes
This could have been a Dire Straits song.
Wonderful
yes, similar guitar lead
superbe et complétement inconnu (en ce qui me concerne)

I think it's Hank singing. Bruce has a softer voice
I think they had a sessions vocalist on the album
Checked, think it was someone called Tony Rivers.

A song that describes "Soul Saviour" from go to woe...
I came here to listen to the song after reading the book.
Great! Very unterrated song of the Shadows from their last Album "Guardian Angle" before they split.
