With the passing of the tyrants, all three grew large to stake their claim. While megaraptorans rule today, the three lords of Kairul still hold niche titles.
Songs of the Inland Sea is the sequel to Tales of Kaimere! It is a nautical anthology, with all six short stories and novellas taking place in aquatic settings. There are heists on a ship, a desperate chase through a marsh, and a survival story from the perspective of a killer whale!

Agreed. Obviously it doesn’t always go in their favor but it works well enough. I am Curious as to how Tikakatik deal with Kurujaku in the Kairulan Inland sea. He has said the they outweigh them by a very large margin and crush them in an open contest. Now this will probably be explained next week, but I am still curious.

I like how it grows into something that looks like a utahraptor, the largest earth dromeosaur, and then keeps growing but even faster. Fun to imagine naturalists initially mistaking newly independent subadults as their own species, like a dromeosaur t rex and nanotyrannus situation.

The known world has a an impressive cast of giant animals, but Kairul is on a whole different level.
Absolutely. A huge mostly tropical continent with an inland sea so most of it is a lush forest or wetland. A very productive and competitive habitat. Not as diverse as the known world since there's no portal, but this is where things go to get big

The Komu Ka Bawe is probably my very favourite Kaimeran theropod! I love its cassowary-esque colours and carcharodont lifestyle. I wish I could have done some Fanart for this episode, but it was immensely enjoyable nonetheless.

I love how you are fleshing out the “Kairul rivals” you introduced in those Megaraptoran videos so long ago.
In that, I got the impression that the Uktan was dominant over them all, but between the Bokodu video where a “knight” is something that any Uktan should be wary of and the way you describe Komu Ka Bawe immediately charging for a Megaraptoran’s throat while the latter is in mid display, I’m getting a bit of different vibe.

I love that we have slowly been expanding more and more outside of the known world
I like how Komus interact with megaraptorans. Shows how behavior and boldness can be just as important as size or weaponry.
It's also nice that some of the things the monarch has going for it also works in the dromeosaur's favor in a way.
Their more dangerous weaponry makes them prone to intimidate as oppose to immediate violence, so being extra agressive works for the komus favor.
Though you didn't mention it and I am sure this me speculating, but Komus being smaller doesn't seem to be that big of a deal. They hunt titans, they probably aren't strangers to being outsized. Though I know that fighting a megaraptor and hunting a sauropod is definitely two very different things.
The titan killers finally get their due time in the spotlight! One of my favorite large theropods in Kaimere. They inspired one of my own predators specialized in hunting giant humanoids, and I loved getting to see these giant dromaeosaurs in full color and glory.
I must say though, I'm just as, if not even more impressed at the Uktan's updated design, and the new robust monarch Megaraptoran of Kairul!

I suspect that's something that would have happened in the real world if the K-Pg extinction never occurred and tyrannosaurids went extinct at some point.
Nice single animal video of an animal outside the Known World after the chimpanzee, bokodu, and koga. Some questions:
1. Exactly how tall are komu ka bawe?
2. How did the ancestors of the Hercules titan survive during the Tyrant Dynasty?
3. How would a komu ka bawe fair against a giganotosaurus or carcharodontosaurus?
2. They where small generalists before the extinction. (I forget which platform he said this on)
3. It could probably go either way given a lot of the adaptations are roughly identical.

This episode remind me and have VERY strong vibes of the BBC 2002-2003 documentary "Chased by Dinosaurs" second and last episode, "Land of Giants", with Nigel Marven ! One of the several spin-off mini-series part of the wider "Walking with..." franchise (with famousely Walking with Dinosaurs").
Don't know if you go again on this episode to get inspirations for this Kaimere's video and the Komu Ba Kawe, as we know that you watch this franchise when young, but it really a nice episode of the "Walking with" franchise !
The overall plot being Nigel Marven tracking the giants carcharodontosaur Giganotosaurus and titanosaur Argentinosaurus, and ending on a hunt between the giant predator and the giant herbivore, the two among the biggest animals of their categories to ever lived !
Hunts between Komu Ba Kawe and Hercules Titan must be overall identicals to the one seen in this episode.
Yet, despite being good overall, this episode is also famous after so many years to be the one of the least accurate piece of the franchise as a whole.
While the main problem being that Giganotosaurus and Argentinosaurus in question didn't lived at the same location, and only had a small period of time where they effectively lived in the same time.
With of course a lot of time traveling species that didn't lived and coexisted in term of places and times, such Ornitocheirus, Pteranodon or Iguanodon.
And innacurate depciting such pterosaurs showing to be forced to take flight from a cliff in order to fly.
For this episode, I think, as a base model and inspiration, that it would have been so better to look more with the 2011 documentary series, alway from BBC "Planet Dinosaur", episode 5 "New Giants".
In which we have a very good sequence depciting a "hunt" of Mapusaurus taking and cutting pieces of flesh on living Argentinosaurus specimens.
The two taxa lived at the same time and place, the hunt depicted onscreen is similar but with the interesting idea that the predators don't everytime kill their prey, but left them alive by taking piece of them from their body to eat these pieces in a safe place.
Which is even gruesome in a way, but not farfetch by any mean.
So, yes, was good to speak on that again thank to this Kaimere episode ! X)
Man, the Komu Ka Bawe is impressive! I can't believe the males are dromaeosaurs the size of T-Rex, but it just goes to show you that you can never tell where evolution will take a species to.

Regarding question 2: On Deviantart Keenan has said that Chaku Ka Bawe means 'slayer of all things'.
1. They fare rather well according to Keenan. Something to Do with how more compact mammals are in comparison to a dinosaur of the same size. This means the Komu can tear quite a lot out in a single go.
3. I remember Keenan has said the Kairulan people regard the Komu as an animal of honor given they hunt titans and largely feed on animals of their own size class. They also leave humans alone as adults as long as they don’t bother the chicks.

Little thing about the speculative evolution thing I’m doing. The descendants of the Aztecs known as the “Tuma” by later British arrivals basically after figuring out how to use sauropods in war established a sort of mongol empire conquering other near by nations such as the Kawa.
So many redesigns of the dinos shown at the beginning and the video was fantastic 10/10

@TalesofKaimere Much appreciation my friend! One last question. Is there a limit as to how many creatures can make up a Homunculi? Because the Jersy Devil has five species. Black Cockatrice, Arum, Titan Stork, Common Boar, and Komatu.
@@chancegivens9390 Not at all! While Class I homunculi usually only had one or two deviant entries, later homunculi had whatever would be most efficient. All ogres have elements of sauropod and megaraptoran to make them lighter even if there's also sloth or elephant in there, for example.

Kairul must have very few or no large predators to occupy the middle of the ecological niche, the pressure of having to deal with multiple giant predators and the fact that theropods occupy these middle animals when they are young would make life difficult for any predator in the the size of a lion or bear, a hell of eternal harassment and robbery. I imagine that smaller predators are the overwhelming majority in Kairul since there are so many mega-predators sharing the same habitat. I wanted to know more about Kairul.

I really like your interpretation of Dromeosaur socialisation. A good mix of somewhat social and highly territorial. The gangs of juveniles that are extremely aggressive to one another is to me quite reminiscent of the raptors in the Jurassic Park books, but is also very believable for such animals. More social than say a Komodo Dragon, but far from comparable to say lions, hyenas or canids.
Thanks! I definitely wanted something that felt more avian than mammalian. There was a bit of lion influence, but mostly I was inspired by crows for the gangs of young and less but still present interaction in adults.
I find it interesting is that it depends on the gender, Females get along just fine. Male despise each other when they leave the nest and only work together to get food or to use each other as food.

Besides, Keenan, I got a very good question for you that you’ll be clearly interested in: since megaraptorans, dromaeosaurs, ceratosaurs and entelodonts are the apex terrestrial predators in the world of Kaimere, is there a chance for a ceratosaur yet not an abelisaur but one of a few possible descendants of Ceratosaurus itself, in this case; a huge one equal in size to the other apexes? I mean, if Allosaurus was the lion of its time with Torvosaurus being the Jurassic counterpart of the tiger today, Ceratosaurus was like the hyena of the Jurassic. It was a brave, clever and adaptable hunter and scavenger like hyenas, for example, spotted hyenas. Even Allosaurus and Torvosaurus wouldn’t easily underestimate Ceratosaurus. If there are chances, it’s not impossible for Ceratosaurus to harvested and brought to Kaimere and since being an adaptable carnivore, it’s possible for a few descended species to survive and live to this very day, including one that evolved to be an apex predator and even the other apexes wouldn’t underestimate this one. Is there a chance for Ceratosaurus and its descendants to be on Kaimere? If that was possible, they would adapt quicker than other large predators besides megaraptorans and dromaeosaurs and easily become apex predators, able to hunt the largest prey like oliphaunts, giant ground sloths, chalicotheres, buffalo, hippos and titanosaurs too including the Modotitan, even adults but rarely yet young individuals, even teenagers and young adults, shouldn’t be a problem. So what’s your respond Keenan?
While ceratosaurs is very cool, and was indeed influential in some design elements of the tikakatik, they are still abelisaurids.

Very nice video. I love it. Tho I have to comment on one thing that is a bit unrealistic. It’s the fact that these large carnivores have such heavy feathering. It’s bee suggested or studied that Large animals would most often not need feathers or fur because there large size would keep them warm most of the time or something like that, and the feathers for such a large animal would simply make the creature overheated quickly. It’s fine with feathers in colder regions but that these large animals seem to live in tropical environments in your setting, it doesn’t make sense for them to have heavy feathering. Light feathers are still fine and Feathers on smaller individuals and young ones is completely fine and makes sense. And for smaller species. But these creatures in this episode like the titan slayers or the megaraptorines shouldn’t have a heavy feather coat as adults.
That’s the only complaint and the and is mainly a nitpick. Still love what you’re doing. 🎉 👍
This is true. From what I remember of the study, which it's been a few years since I read, found at between 1 and 2 tons, animals loose thermoregulatory benefits from integument. This is part of why the current trend shows T. rex without noticeable feathers as adults, as even though their environment likely got seasonally cold especially at night, they were large enough as adults to keep warm, yet juveniles would certainly benefit.
For the komu, I decided to keep some feathering on the back to keep it cool. Thermal studies of ratites suggest the feathered regions are actually cooler, with the idea being that broad feathers shade their skin. I may not have rendered it well, but in adult komu ka bawe and uktan, the lateral feathers are very broad in adults to shade the skin, but the legs and bellies have no feathers so the open surface area can better shed heat. Juveniles komu have more feathering as in their temperate range, it can get quite cold at night, especially in winter. I stand by its possible and feathers can do things fur can't, so it's important to keep in mind that fur and feathers don't always interact with the animal the same way, but it must be said that I'm not arguing in favor of all large theropods having lots of feathers. It's more parsimonious to assume they did not, just that this theory is not entirely without merit, and exploring possibilities beyond the most likely assumption is something I like to do with this project.
One more thing I hope to explore at some point is the idea of individual variation. By simple virtue of statistics, I try to draw the average healthy individual in these profiles. Large mammals in forest environments often lose their fur from it rubbing off as they walk through dense foliage. That's a concept I do plan on exploring in some large theropods, namely the zentaur and komu ka bawe. In a dense forest, their feathers offering shade isn't that helpful anyway as there's shade from the trees, but in the open forests where the titanosaurs are more common, having the shade from their feathers to keep the torso cool is beneficial.

I have a question: How does Kairul maintain a great variety of large predators when in the Known World that place is almost completely monopolized by one family of Theropods?
It is a much larger continent, and the predators there are all specialists. Many generalized members of these clades were wiped out by the megaraptorans, so we're only seeing a few relics. In the known world, the resident theropods were also megaraptorans, and they overlapped too much with zentaur.
Throwing out my own guess: Kairul’s the home of the advanced megaraptorans, so all the fauna evolved to be competitive with the advanced megaraptorans, whereas the fauna of the new world was not evolved to be competitive with the advanced megaraptorans, so they were replaced.

Modern Megaraptoran of Kaimere, the ones from the Robust Monarch, evolved on Arvel, which still their homeland ans stronghold, and overtime reach Kairul.
The Know World local fauna have coexisted with these predators, to which they are the only giant large theropod family thank from competition from them thank to their high diversity and number. And also the limited space on land given the Known World is a small region on the map of Kaimere.
The Uktan's and Kurujaku's ancestors arrived some millions years ago on Kairul, which the local megafauna wasn't adapted against such predators.
Leading to an local extinction, mostly among the three local clades of Giant Predators that are the Giant Dromaeosaurs, the Giant Entelodonts and Giant Abelisaurs.
Leading to one surviving species in each groups.
As such, it's the Megaraptoran that have replaced the local predators.
And if the three Giant Clades still exist today, it is thank to Kairul giving very large space to inhabit, as well than niche partitioning due to differents diet or preys items.

Life as male Komu must suck. The awkward adolescent stage is killer for them.
I knew that the latin name sounded familiar! However I noticed that the spelling of Komu's generic name is TitanophonAEUS, while the synapsid is TitanophonEUS, so maybe it would still count as a valid name? I'm not completely sure about the rules of nomenclature in such instances.

The spelling change was done to avoid the conflict of homonyms, which has been validly done on a number of occasions
The living breathing reason that Old Bone Skins, the herd witch, keeps bolt throwers (giant crossbows) mounted on the howdahs of his larger companions. He might have a cloak made of these Titan slayers feathers.

4 robust monarchs in the Known World. Chaku Ka Bawe is a endemic to Kairul.
Chaku is a species related to the uktan and occupies the same niche as the zentaur. As Andrey said, Chaku is only in Kairul, and zentaur is only in Arvel and Ni'Khar.

Will be covered next week, but in short: not really a fair fight an average bull kurajaku is about 6-8 meters longer and more than twice as heavy. Even so, the superior armor and bite of the tikakatik means they put up a much better fight than the weight class might suggest. Still an easy kurajaku win, but the abelisaur is a tough fighter

Also on the Jurassic Island are there a proceratosaurids still extant? and if they are, could they not be used along with the tyrant of the Houze to determine if megaraptorans are tyrannosauroids
Keenan has said that a Gondwanan harvest has happened so I assume that is where they originate.

Great questions! So the Assembly has estimated at least 2 if not 3 Gondwanan harvests between the Cenomanian and Campanian-early Maastrichtian, but they have neither determined specific taxa ancestral to each clade nor the times with any precision beyond general ages like those mentioned above. The chances of harvests happening where we happen to have fossiliferous formations with well preserved and represented biota is very slim so the Assembly usually doesn't try unless they get very lucky, such as a Allosaurus fragilis in the archives of the Great Library in Ni'Khar meaning they can definitively say a harvest occurred in the latest Jurassic harvest from North America.
The cladistics of basal theropods on the Jurassic Islands is uncertain. The cursorial clade is presumed to be noasaurs, but they might be proceratosaurs. If they have the cladistics of these dinosaurs wrong, it could substantially throw off any genetic testing. For now it remains uncertain.
They could determine if they are noasaurs with genetics easily enough, considering that both noasaurines and abelisaurids known to be extant, so they could quite easily determine if they are abelisauroids easily enough, considering that the two clades above are sister taxa, so that would be much easier than the megaraptorans, and even if the cursorial clade hunter are noasaurines, a clade of basal coelurosaurs could still survive in the jungles.@@TalesofKaimere
So indo-madigascar is off the table, due to the presence of a Kairulan Elasmarian clade, are their parankylosaurs that have been in kairual since one of these harvests?@@TalesofKaimere

Well, Kaishel also has a giant apex theropod that's potentially worthy of a single species episode imo.
I wouldn't say we've had plenty of Kaishel. Sure it's mentioned occasionally, but as standalone episodes so far we've got only the overview and the moørkutlot one. Still a lot to unpack about this continent.

While specialists are often the most vulnerable to change, they also always able to survive when competition is intense, and hunting sauropods, as shown by the carcharodontosaurs of our world, has always been a succesful strategy, and Komu Ka Bawe makes this clear.
I got a question, given than the Chabu Ka Bawe fills the same ecological spot of the Zentaur, what megafauna does it hunt, and does it participate on intraguild predation (when a predator eats another one)?
Absolutely. Specialization is a reliable path to dominance, and it’s not as if an animal is not going to choose to abstain from mating with a successful partner because it would make their offspring more vulnerable 5 million years in the future when the context changes if they chose a less fit generalist. While I say that specialization often leads to eventual ruin when context changes and generalists inherit the ashes, it certainly isn’t a bad thing to specialize.
They primarily hunt a range of pachycephalosaurs, rhinos, thescelosaurs, camels, leptoceratopsids, and other undisclosed dinosaur clades. Generally more dinosaur focused than zentaur simply by virtue of the zentaur living with a lot more large mammals. It does prey on other predators, but only opportunistically and rarely with much focus or effort.
@@TalesofKaimereI am surprised so many dinosaurs managed to survive in Kairul, and I would love to see the species that await us on that massive conjointed continent, as such, it is to be expected that the Chabu hunted more dinosaurs because of it's more mesozoic context, and it's probably one of my favorite Megaraptorans, hope we see more about that theropod in the future, as well as the species it coexist with
@@TalesofKaimere The thing I find interesting about the Fossil record is just the sheer time span it is on. Sure the generalists inherit the ashes, but even just 5 million years already has 100s of thousands of generations of a specialized animal.

Yo, i have a question.
So i watched a bit of the “arms and aromours of kaimere” video and it was stated that a few cultures use the parts of creatures to make gear.
Now im a big fan of the franchise known as monster hunter, and was wondering if there were any people who hunted large and ferocious beasts to both make gear and to keep their numbers in check.
(The people in monster hunter also hunt monsters for other reasons but its usually for a good reason most of the time)
Kaimerians will cull man-eater fauna for obvious reasons, although how successful they are is debatable. People don’t regularly hunt giant fauna though. Not saying it doesn’t happen (as Nobles do it sometimes, although this is less Monster Hunter style and is probably more comparable to Earth than the Monster Hunter franchise.) but digging ditches and using giant air horns is better sloth/titanosaur deterrent than culling them.
I love the Chaku Ka Bawe! Always good to see new megaraptorans. For what habitat is it specialized?
Thank you! The chaku is a forest specialist, occupying the same niche as the zentaur all the way back in the known world. They are more lightly built and nomadic, tending to prefer smaller prey, though if they were on the same continent they would undoubtedly compete.

Thank you! And yes, zentaur are not found in Kairul. The journey between Ni'Khar and Kairul is a passage over a few thousand miles of desert and prairie. Difficult for a forest specialist like the zentaur, especially one that prefers subtropical climates over the scorching tropics.

Just to ask are going update some information in the first anthology because though good it does need some updating because of your new details from your recent videos
I don’t know if the stories themselves need adjustment but it would be good to do sketch art like the second anthology. Think it looks much better in the lower print resolution and black and white than the first anthology art.

I am thinking about doing a speculative evolution project where the Maastrichtian faunas get sent to the modern day (With humans on their last legs) in the nearest biome analogous to where they lived, for example hell creek lance etc. to the American southeast, (Florida with even more invasive species)

This makes me wonder if a morph exists where they don't mature? I would imagine a sub-adult wouldn't do poorly niche wise?
Unfortunately the juvenile morph only works up to half a ton. Once they exceed that, balancing at the knees like a bird is untenable. They might last a year or so, but pretty quickly knee joints and ligaments would strain and break.
How many parts will this series contain: giant dromie, giant abelisaur and two megaraptorans?
So far just the giant dromie and giant abelisaur, but if I get more sponsors I'd happily do episodes on the other two!

This is probably a question that has never been asked before but, are their any notoungulates in Kairul. I know that the portal is more focused on its overall territory but, ever scince you brought up hukolgurs precense it made me wonder has their been any small genera that may have migrated across the desert despite the already present fauna. 🤔
I haven't done much with the notoungulates of the known world yet so I'm not sure which clades might be eligible for the crossing
