I don't think he meant to say it was her fault, but maybe he meant that this man wanted to take advantage of the fact she is drunk so it would be easier to do whatever he planned to,also getting drunk in South Korea is really frequent so yeah that my thoughts on this.
I wish one day I could stand against all the harassment that happens to women in your country. I've watched a lot of things about it and those scoundrels is a bad name for all those good men there
Yup that’s why the guy was primarily charged with trespassing(the footage itself is only a circumstantial evidence and because the man didn’t get to actually break into the house, this might have not even been enough to prosecute him). then the police later changed it to attempted rape after they found out there’s more to the footage; the man threatening her to open up the door. Usually the police is not gonna act on it unless there’s something actually happened, which is ridiculous.
Korea have huge disagreement and dispute between woman and man because their gap of status is getting bigger. Guys are getting poor and girls are getting richer

don't they it's like they don't ever look for people who would give a detail answer they look for people who they know are going to give ignorant statements.
Like come on they got a Confederate flag t-shirt a trump 2020 bumper sticker what kind of statement do you think they going to give?? ( Not judging just saying)
The fact that people don't feel safe in "one of the most safest country" just makes me think how unsafe people feel in the most "dangerous country". Like just imagine those things happening in Korea then imagine how much worse it is in other countries.
Not all countries accurately report their crime. Sometimes I wish our whole body was a camera, so everything was recorded and then they couldn't get away with such degrading things.
The most important thing is: when something happens to women, the police is quite indifferent. They don't think it's a big deal. And most incidents didn't even count. The police officer will say something like 'call us again if you got hurt physically or something.' So this is not about the number of them but their attitude.
Teach boys at a young age not to harm girls There should be classes all throughout the schooling period teaching both sexes that any type of abuse is wrong.
Exactly, value based education and sex education should be made compulsory to promote gender equality, respect women and LGBT people and increase awareness about health and population. Also, American curriculum should be strictly obeyed.
yes this is why violence against women movement will fail.. it should be no violence by anyone.. zero tolerence for violence.. by either sex.. so mothers dont teach their sons it ok to hit.. and teach their daughters they get a pass.
Yes, but lets be realistic, you cant expect too much on all men to be good men these days. There are a lot of phycho man , man who got a problem or even have no family to raise them right. and you can't control this. So educating and alert all girls to keep safe and be protected is still very important. Protection is better than being regretted anyway.
The fact that my friend walked along the Han river at 12:30am, alone... makes me jealous and wonder if i do the same thing there, will i be safe? But he said there were a few young women too at that time so i guess it’s safe enough :”) let’s hope the world will be safer, esp for women.
The last woman is right. There should be more police patrolling around and not relying entirely on CCTV. I'm not saying everywhere. But divert resources with patrol officers where there is a history of those kind of incidences. And the police should host workshops for women on how to prevent or deal with situations where some creep is stalking them. For example, if you think you're being followed late at night, walk into a 24 hour establishment like a convenience store. And if you have a convenience store on your block or street, get to know the owner or workers.
$200 camera replaced every 2 years = $100/year. 1 cop is $40k/year. That's 400 potential cameras per cop, patrols are done in pairs so $80k/year. But that's for an 8 hour shift. For 24 hour surveillance, you need 3 shifts of 2 cops each which is $240k/year. That's equal to 2,400 cameras. I'd take the 2,400 cameras, thanks. And this is just a quick calculation that doesn't account for pensions or the economy's opportunity cost due to these cops eating up taxes as government workers vs. generating economic value for the country in the private sector.
In Australia, at least in Melbourne. We have pairs of police officers stationed at all (if not main) train stations from 6pm till the last train. I was actually stalked during then and I totally forgot there were officers. So when I got off the train the perp left and I quickly reported him but not fast enough for him to be caught :/
Not just the women. Men too, though these people are getting smarter by day. If we come up with some solution, they may come up with a better plan to commit these crimes. It's like a hacking system. Still, we need to work hard to prevent this.
@@grape1829 So what do korean cops do everyday? Do they just sit in the office? If there's so many cops like the guy in the video said, they could easily put some of them in the streets. They're already getting paid. And buying CCTVs isn't like buying a consumer camera lol. Either way, I'm pretty sure cops and cameras can coexist.
They should have look at the neighbor country, Japan. They have a police teams that patrol around the neighborhoods all the time, called omawari-san. They also have a small police station in every block that i'm pretty much sure suppress crime rates and make police able to respond reports much faster.
Captain DY yes but after the overthrow of ex president park, the corruption of the Korean police still happen. As evidence showed in the suicide case of (I forgot) this Korean actress, directors and ceos bribed the police to not let this case out. Very corrupt
If you are a woman, everywhere in the world even if it’s claimed to be safe, you will still feel unsafe and be scared for your self and for the other women. And sometimes even your own home doesn’t feel safe at all.
I'n a foreign woman living alone here. I ride a bike so it's harder to follow me, and I will not enter my house until I'm sure someone isn't watching (if I'm alone at night). I've had too many times where men try to follow me or touch me without permission to not be wary.
Good luck I hope u stay safe. Try to have a defensive weapon(pepper spray for example) with you in case if something strange happens at night for example. Be careful;)

So when is Asian boss gonna do a video on asking Koreans how they feel about the Burning Sun case being shut down and all the famous and powerful men involved being set free?
and about footage of the police assaulting the man in the burning sun case too...That really unsettled me. I rarely hear anyone discussing that and all the focus is being placed on the celebrities...

So “annoying white people” makes you sound pretty dumb if you were to turn it around to “annoying black people”, “annoying asian people”, etc. please don’t just look at race. It might seem harmless to you, but that can lead to only seeing people for their race. Just my opinion :) have a nice day

notice how they talked about how the police offers not taking crime against women (like rape) seriously. have you heard about the burning sun case? the police officers actually NORMALIZED rape and adultery (and others) and that it shouldn't be an issue. you see, the problem is that they are tolerating violence or rape against women.
Tbh, maybe I am a foreigner, but when I went to Korea twice, I felt so safe there. I even felt safer than my own country. We are both girls and it was past midnight after drinks, there were absolutely no taxi on the street. So, we stopped and asked for help from a random young guy to look for a taxi for us and he was so sweet and kind. He made a call and even stayed with us until the taxi came. He talked to the driver to take us to our hotel. Another thing that I remembered was we were on the subway station looking so confused which way to go and a guy just came to us asking if we needed help. He even warned us to avoid certain areas in Seoul, saying it was not very safe to wonder around there. Generally, there are always criminals everywhere. There is no country that can provide you 100% safety, especially when you are a woman who are more prone to experience bad things since they see us as weak target.
@@인삼도라지-w9k well, korea is a very conservative country and as in many conservative countries the SA topic is very stigmatised there. if people from the most s*xually free countries quite often don’t report SA crimes, what is it like in Korea?
@@wentano There is no reason not to report it. In Korea, a perpetrator can be sent to jail just by stating about the crime at the police station. No other evidence is needed. (Limited to sexual crimes) The victim investigation is conducted by a female police officer. Rather, innocent people sometimes end up in prison due to this system. In the case of women with bad intentions, they abuse the judicial system and threaten men by saying they will sue them for sexual assault.
and since the police are so incompetent when it comes to sexual harassment/assault/other crimes against women women are discouraged from reporting so the statistics aren't accurate
I used to go home super late at night because of work and had to walk my way home, I never encountered these types of situations which I'm thankful for. But once, I happened to have a really bad haircut, and wanted to hide it, so I borrowed a friends hoodie to cover my head. I walked home at around midnight wearing it and there's this boy walking in front of me. Didn't really put any attention on him until I realized he continuously looked over his shoulders at me, then finally he suddenly started sprinting into the other side of the street. I was a bit shocked, it only dawned on me at that point that he thought I was up to no good. I felt so bad but, a bit humored at the same time. Then again, this might be a good strategy to avoid criminals, make them think you're the criminal instead j/k haha, honestly, I felt sorry for making him terrified like that, no one should ever have to feel that way
I've lived in 3 different countries, as a woman i definitely feel safe where i live right now (Canada) i can walk at 2AM all alone not afraid of being mugged or rape. Honestly that's a nice feeling 😄
You think it is going to be the same in future?? Look at the European countries. Only reason Canada is safe now is because there are better countries to go to.
As a girl, some of what I can do when going home are: 1) keep a lookout for shadows coming from behind walls or corners along the corridor 2) once you unlock the door, go in immediately (if I have to do anything before going in, e.g. taking off shoes, do it before unlocking the door) 3) when going in to the house, try to look over shoulders to see if there's anyone Do share if you have other tips or pointers!
Use a different route back home than that which you use out, whenever possible;Walk in groups, if possible; be aware of your surroundings always; keep ICE numbers on speed-dial; take the earphones out of your ears, and keep your cellphone out of sight; always carry a good pen or screwdriver within easy reach (saved me when a man tried to rob me at knifepoint-against my pregnant belly, might I add); make sure your shoes are practical- if you're wearing heels, use a car, or make sure they're comfortable and can double as a weapon, otherwise be combat-ready in sneakers or boots, especially at night; if you are a woman who lives alone, install cctv, and keep a pair of men's boots by your front door; a little self defense know-how, is a plus...
carry pepper spray. if you wear high heels, stomp on a guys foot as hard as you can, like a nail driven though his foot, and drive it to the ground. make him squeal and slap his face with your hand bag. but most of all, do not give up if you are in a situation. guys have a limit to the amount they can handle - then once they feel control is not possible, they give up. Dont ever think a guy will try it forever - he is subject to certain limitations in his motives. take it from me. stay safe ladies.

The funny thing I was on video call with my dad. So I place my dad on the screen and point out to him. He back off. And left. 😂
That's very subjective. I've seen in Korea they go out of a club at 3 am, pick up a cab and go home safe and sound (in most cases, I know from the video that it can be dangerous too) BUT, in my country, you could never EVER go out of a club at 3 am alone and not be assaulted, robbed, rapped, etc (even by the taxi driver). I live in constant fear of going outside, so, if this doesn't happen in Korea, I'd consider it safe. But, if you live there and this relatively rare situation happens to you, of course you wouldn't consider it safe 🤷🏻♀️

Great topic! I'm alone in Korea now and I have felt safe everywhere and will walk alone at night (which I would not do in a lot of other places). But I see I should not get too comfortable!
Me Mehl I am often in Korea alone, daytime and early evening are very safe. Late at night or where there are less people... not so safe ( as with most places). I had one bad experience at an apartment I rented. Someone I didn’t know rang the doorbell ( saw them on iPad type device on apartment wall) and then banged on the door for about 5 minutes. I thought about calling the police but the man left. Fortunately I had asked for the door code to be changed for me, and had locked the door from the inside with a physical lock. So I felt safe, take care of yourself and I hope your visit is not spoiled by this incident. I have found almost all Koreans to be nice, helpful and very honest.

I've been living in korea for six months now and I feel like it's a paradise compared to my country (Chile, south america) when it comes to women safety. That doesn't mean there is not crimes against women. Men will be men everywhere unless they start being raised differently. I can walk here a little drunk after it gets dark while in chile i had 90% chance of getting my things stolen, or being molested or raped. I think the cameras have a lot of influence when it comes to safety in korea. Men think twice before doing anything because of cameras. But if they still do it, it gives to think. Why women are WAY less violent than men? why cases when a woman is the one commiting rape are so less than men? this is worldwide, no country is excluded. That means is not a problem of culture but a problem on how we raise our childs to be determined in their sex and gender. Why lesbian women can avoid catcalling women on the street and men have to even follow us? why do they think they can get away with it(and in most cases they can)? Something radical NEEDS to happen. Women are dying everyday by the hands of their lovers, ex boyfriends or some random guy that got rejected and felt his small ego hurt, women crying in silence while suffering intrafamilial abuse and violence. We have to fight for our rights, go out on the streets, defend ourselves. The answer is not for us women to learn self defense but teach men not grow to be rapists, murderers, violent humans, etc. Learn self defense is a short term help that in most cases you can't use because of the shock. I hope we can all think about all the women suffering in the world when teaching your boy manners, morals, and gender norms if you will.
True. Im a lesbian and I often find myself stealing a look at any woman I found attractive. But no more than 2 seconds and in only catching a glance every 1 minute or so 😂 If she went out of my view, I forgot about her. Cant understand how men cant do the same. Its make you think there might be something wrong with some of the men.
I have the feeling that here in Europe others in society are more willing to step in when they see something bad happening to someone else on the streets compared to a lot of Asian societies. I've lived a while in China and Japan and there I noticed that others mostly just look the other way. This is something I hate a lot about the cultures in East Asia
yes yes I have lived in Czech Republic when I was walking out of metro some drunk Ukrainian guy jumped me and was trying to steal my wallet from jacket no one stepped except police officers

South korea has one of best gender equality in the world. The seungri scandal? Compare that to the west and see how women are literally treated like meat in the western entertainment industry.
@@sangwoo9686 This is false. For 2018 Korea ranked 115th out of 149 countries on the gender parity rankings. Just look up "Gender inequality in South Korea" and go to the wiki page. It's gender INEQUALITY that is consistantly ranked one of the highest. And the fact that your talking about how women are treated in the western entertainment industry as if it's worse then Korea shows you don't know much about the industry here. Look up Jang Ja yeon first and go from there. It's a pretty open secret that some really shady stuff happens in the Korean entertainment industry not to mention the fact that, in Korea, entertainers are basically owned by their agencies. Once they sign a contract they have to take whatever jobs the agency tells them to; they have no right to accept or reject the way that Western entertainers do. And that's without mention of things like slave contracts and trainee debt and companies literally starving their artists. In fact one of the most famous Korean idols, Bo A has staight up said that she thinks that the reason she is so short is that her company starved her when she was growing. And this is a woman who debuted at 13 years old so she was a trainee before that. That means that she was literally starved when she was in Elementary and middle school. And her age as a trainee is not unique. Young kids are even taken away from their parents in Elementary/middle school to live in trainee dorms where they practice, study and function on just a few hours sleep. Not to mention how vulnerable these kids are to being taken advantage of (and it has come out plenty of times that some trainees are. Look up 'open world entertainment' for one example). I hope you realise it not as easy as: let's just teach criminals to not commit crimes... This is not how the real world works... There will allways be some retards, frustrated, mad, sad idiots who will commit such things and you can't 100% stop it from happening. Good punushment and women trying to self defend is the best solution I can think of.
If I think there's someone not quite right behind me when I go into my building I usually either take the stairs or get off the elevator at a different floor than the one i live on. That way it's harder for them to work out where I live. (I live in Korea and have been followed a few times by old drunk men)
One of my biggest dream is I can go out at night, strolling around the park and feel the night wind while stargazing too without feeling someone just gonna randomly appears out nowhere and do something against my will...and this apply for everyone too
Oh man, I'm from California and let me tell you how many times this happens to me out here. I'm always racing home after work, or peering outside to make sure its safe to head to the bus, its SO bad. I think I've been followed home and had someone grab my door about 7 or so times! Followed home more times but my door was only grabbed 7 times. Its HORRIBLE.
As the lady said, police visibility is one of the deterrents to crime. But it seems, men's mindset in Korea downplays crimes against women. But this is typical regardless of ethnicity. It will always be a perpetual goal to raise women's dignity.
I'm from Denmark and in my city we have a group call night ravens who are a group of adults (often parents) who helps everyone in the night life to be safe and to get home safely. Maybe you should make a group like that in your city 😉
That was so scary! That footage shook me to my core!!! I never believe or take it seriously when my mom tells me to be careful. I definitely will be from now on.
Actually i’ve been living in Singapore for 6.5 years. Singapore is one of the safest country in the world too.. I ever being stalked by a weirdo twice b4 n it’s really gv me chill. Luckily the first one, i hv my maid who help me get rid of the stalker. And the second one, luckily it was in a crowded place. It was sooooo scary to think bout it tho. It’s not only happen on me. Even all of my girl friends (we are all foreigner)ever experienced it b4. The scariest one is the one who even waited for her to finish her work n follow her till her home. There’s a lot of cases like this n the stalker’s reasons usually like asking for direction (n then ask the girl where she’s come from. He will asked if the girl want to hv a drink or follow him to another place/country with him). Another one he’s waiting in front of the lift coz he doesn’t know which floor are u living, the other one asking about something but end up asking u for a little drink. We just want to being polite n a good person. But if people make use of our own good, that’s really shitty!
yes Singapore does feel pretty safe! I have lived in both Singapore and in South Korea and even though I did feel safer in korea, Singapore was so easy and secure feeling too (maybe because I didn't feel pressure from language barriers).
I really like the youth's responses to these questions....they're a bit more woke than their elders and aren't afraid to question the system. I like the lady's insight into having more police actively and unexpectedly patrol the neighborhoods. Bravo!!
the 2 things in the video that sent shivers down my spine was how close he was to actually stopping the door and how smart he was to see the fingerprints on the number pad. If she was even a split second too slow, he could've made it and do horrid things to her. And if he actually got her keypad correct, that would be so frightening. I do believe the keypad option is a bit more safer than keylocks as keylocks can be busted through.
This exact thing happened to me in 2009 when I visited SK. A man followed me to the hostel I was staying in and tried to get into my room. Was very scary and because of the language barrier I felt I was unable to tell anyone about it.
It’s sad how so many women live these same experiences everywhere. I had a stalker when I was 20. He saw me at my job at the mall one day and just kept coming back to watch me and stare at me. When he started following me out of the store on my breaks, I tried to lodge an official complaint with mall security, but they said there was nothing they could do. Then one night, he hid in the back of my car and held me at knifepoint- I got away from him and then reported it, but there was no evidence, just my word against his. Ultimately I quit that job and prayed he wouldn’t figure out where I lived and went to university. Thankfully I was lucky, but it’s so upsetting that women can be openly intimidated and terrorized, and the greater response is “Welp 🤷🏼♀️”

Even then, "Oh, she wasn't being careful enough" ...lazy bastards

So, we stopped and asked for help from a random young guy to look for a taxi for us and he was so sweet and kind. He made a call and even stayed with us until the taxi came. Another thing that I remembered was we were on the subway station looking so confused which way to go and a guy just came to us asking if we needed help. He even warned us to avoid certain areas in Seoul, saying it was not very safe to wonder around there. Generally, there are always criminals everywhere.
But no more than 2 seconds and in only catching a glance every 1 minute or so 😂
