the behind the scenes for decalcomanie is pretty hilarious tho, wheein dances (twirls) away from the guy she has to "kiss" bc shes embarrassed, solar gets the giggles, and moonbyul drops the tie like a hot iron and walks away as soon as the scene is done 😂🤣 hwasa is the only one who finished her scenes w little to no reaction

The girls were indeed uncomfortable with shooting intimate scenes with a stranger, as any person would, but to say Byulie looked disgusted is not only rude to the guy actor, but to Byulie herself, too. After all, all 5 of them were just doing their own respective work.
(And I know this is supposed to be lighthearted whatever yes yes yes but I'm a person who likes to ramble so I couldn't help myself but reply hahaha.)
Just so you know, the moustache bit is part of a _three-way wordplay_ between a word for moustache/facial hair, ambiguous ( _aememoho_ ), and Mamamoo. That's why they're doing it, and the moustache gesture became part of their intro.
Mamamoo is the group that always have fun with words on their lyrics. Kudos to the team behind them as well coz their songs are🔥
In the Mr. Ambiguous video, they definitely weren't acting or in on the prank there. It's a strikingly genuine moment to me, the way Wheein is anxiously looking towards Solar the leader and how they're all trying not to cry. Honestly it makes me sad - Mamamoo were under a lot of pressure for their debut. The company basically told them that they needed to rely on strong vocals and stage presence because their looks weren't good enough, so they had a large burden on them already. I’m glad they were able to recover so well from the prank, but I still feel bad for them! Idk mamamoo have pulled some pretty hardcore pranks on each other in the past so maybe I’m disproportionately concerned 😅
Agreed. This is the kind of prank you pull on people who have already gone through a lot and can take it, not teenagers and raw rookies.
Also all the people with names on them were either singers or song-writer(Don-Spike). The lady who pranked them is named Ji-Young Baek, and she's also a very famous Korean singer. That's why Mamamoo was so intimidated when she began scolding them.
The Mr Ambiguous MV on the Mamamoo channel has English subs, but people always miss that one because the one on the Stone Music channel shows up at the top of the search results.

Tbh, this is another place where RBW should just fix it and have the subtitles (which they have already made) added to the Stone Music version. It can’t be that difficult, they just have to do it. It saddens me to imagine people hearing about Mamamoo, searching for a song they’ve heard of, finding the non-subtitled version at the top of the list, and then not getting to appreciate the full meaning of the song. Maybe some people who would have appreciated Mamamoo then end up drifting away.
I'm sure you've already heared how moonbyul was asked to rap in order to debut even if she's been training as vocalist for years... Byul shared that Solar helped her practice rapping and it was actually Hwasa who taught her the growl. This group sounds so good together because they care about each other. Moonbyul said it herself that because of the member's constant support, she was able to power through. I love mamamoo so much, man.

During Décalcomanie there is a mellow part of the MV where the melody changes, that is from a song called "Memory" on the same EP. Mamamoo videos from MMMTV are good for showing their personalities.

Your MAMAMOO journey is bringing me so much joy and reminding me of my experience into them 3 years ago. There’s just no other group like them, truly special. Their MVs are so good but I prefer their live performances (especially at award shows) that’s where they really shine because they have unmatched stage presence. They also adlib their tag lines in each performance as well, along with flirting with the audience. Their performance at the 2017 Asian Artist Awards where they started with You’re the Best and then Decalmonie is one of my faves. They had everyone’s attention that night including many artists (BTS, Exo, Zico). I can’t even say how much I love them! Please also check out Yes I Am (make sure you have lyrics), Um Oh Ah Yeh, and You’re the Best!!!!!
also, concerning décalcomanie, it's an art process of creating two identical images using paper or glass -- like a blot test or a rorschach test, like you said. the lyrics talk about becoming a décalcomanie, two becoming one and blending their colors together to create a colorful picture (which also for some reason reminds me that most if not all of mamamoo songs are non-gender specific so the lover could mean anyone to whomever is listening)
and yes, the suits. that was the beginning point, i think, of mamamoo spitting on the face of gender norms. they did several stages and even awards show lives wearing the full suit and ponytail look, even if they had several other dresses from the music video as well. absolutely iconic, queen behavior, truly.
Absolutely loved this reaction!! Moonbyul said “shhh are you interested in me?”. They’re concept chameleons and they do allot of genres, “um oh Ah yeh” and “You’re the best” are two of their most cherished songs cause there are stages where they do ad-libs :) also “Yes I am” goes OFF
The singer/songwriter Esna, wrote majority of their early songs. She's the reason for the old school sounds. Also check out 'Dont be happy' and 'peppermint chocolate', These came out prior to their debut. You will be introduced to Esna as she features in the song 'Ahh oop'
Decalcomanie is such a difficult song vocally that rarely do idols cover it. Even mamamoo themselves have said how it is one of the most difficult songs for them

on the "cutscene" bit of mr. ambiguous, baek z-young, who is a legendary singer, makes a cameo in the music video (as many others who also appear as cameos throughout, like bumkey and k.will)
she comes to "judge" the girls on set while they were filming and at first she picks on them like "i thought this was supposed to be live, why are they just standing there?" and then we cut to the girls trying once more and belting out all their parts and making sure baek z-young sees they are singing live. after they finished she's still unimpressed and picks on them -- i cant remember exactly what she says but at one point she talks about how she was looking forward to it because the song was composed by dohoon (music composer and producer from rbw) and just sighs
and then from outside the frame someone calls out solar and is like: "solar, isn't baek z-young such a great actress?" and that's when she breaks character and starts laughing and the girls realize it was a prank lol i dont think it was pre-planned because we see all of them cry and z-young trying to comfort them and telling them to cry and let it all out, saying they were great.. solar even at the end jokes saying "should we do it live again?" and z-young tells her they should save their voices, that it's okay lol

For you guys who is still new moomoos, here's a little bit info about Mamamoo before you dive deep into the rabbit hole 😄
Mamamoo actually is a 5 members group which the initial leader is not Solar. I think that's one of the reason Moonbyul is "forced" to be a rapper because they allready has 4 singers. But counting days to their debut, one member (leader) suddenly quit and left. That makes Solar suddenly appoint to be the Leader of Mamamoo (because she's the oldest at that time).
Imagine you're the last child in the house which maybe been spoiled all times and suddenly you have huge responsibilities to lead people. Imagine how shocked that can be at that time. Solar really has a huge burden on her shoulder and that makes sense she's the most shocked with the "critized" from a senior singer. I bet she really feels a failure as the leaders and the cries is real without script.
From the Guide by Purple Hawke you guys watched there's a part that says Solar single handedly carries the group, that is true too. She feels responsible to makes Mamamoo success as the Leader and she made it. Mamamoo is really success in South Korea, and now it's time for the World to know their names too 😄😄
Last but not least, all members has their stories and struggles but we'll slowly guide new moomoos to understand and LOVE them unconditionally. Just like I said before, let's just LOVE them without choosing a bias. Why? Because you'll get wreck everytime 🤣🤣

in mr. ambiguous, they were actually pranking mamamoo. the lady (baek jiyoung) is actually a respected senior and veteran, a rlly great singer so as rookies, mamamoo were definitely nervous performing in front of her skskksks

Mr Ambiguous: The "staff" featured in this mv are actually well-known producers/artists and the mv is basically saying that mamamoo is a group created and vouched for by fellow artists.
Piano Man: This is the song they performed at the year-end awards where they won Rookie of the Year. HwaByul were in tux. Solar even raised the key higher & hold out the note longer.
Decalcomanie: the mv that traumatized the whole moomoo nation. lol. (but, seriously. the elevator scene was even edited cause it went too far) The girls were uncomfortable in the bts of filming this so it's not just us LOL. BUT this is the non-ballad song that showcased the best of mamamoo vocals & harmonies. They opened Queendom (girl group competition) with this song IN PINK MILITARY UNIFORMS.

Decalcomanie is one of my top MAMAMOO songs and I have never seen the video until watching it with you guys. Omg, the lemon squeeze. I died! Those girls are so scandalous! Their vocals remind me of Brown Eyed Girls. They’re so good and mature. It’s like wine.
I've always that Mamamoo were spiritual successors to Brown Eyed Girls. They do actually make that conection in the documentary.

The prank was real. Baek Z Young is a popular singer and was invited to observe their shoot and basically was critiquing them a bit harsh, like why are they not singing live and they need to stop looking at the floor, etc. then the director said "shes a good actress isn't she?" and they all started crying bc they thought it was real.

Funfact when they were starting their CEO showed them to his peers in the industry and all of them said they wouldnt survive the GG field coz they dont look and feel like the "typical girl group" image back in those days the cute concepts. But look where they are now 10 years in the industry and them being recognized as a group and soloist. Never been so proud of them.

Mamamoo's debut was one of the best, so much so that their first album Melting was considered one of the best debut albums, not to mention Moonbyul's Raps, they have a unique style that impresses everyone, the passion with which they sing and She writes them even better, not for nothing is she the most accredited female idol.
And Wheein and Solar's part of the dance in Decalcomanie was not a transition, they literally danced in front of each other with the movements reversed, that's why they call themselves Decal (Solar) Comanie (Wheein) 😂💕

As much as I adore these songs, I love that after their early songs they start to have more say in their music and begin to move away from gendered language in their lyrics and also express their individuality more in how they dress. Moonbyul particularly has said she found the early songs uncomfortable

When it comes to their older songs DECALCOMANIE was up the list. A lot of moomoos picked that song. Because the meaning of the song and the whole music video. It's truly a masterpiece. And yes Moonbyul is so damn attractive.

I love Kess’s comment about “the gall to start their intro song with Mamamoo Mamamoo…”. There’s a bit of history behind that. Mr Ambiguous was written by RBW CEO Kim Do-Hoon before the group had a name. When legendary musician Quincy Jones visited Seoul, KDH had the trainees perform the song live for him, and then offered him the song. Jones turned it down, and so the song was then repurposed as the debut song for the new group. The “mamamoo” lyrics were already in there, and eventually that became the name of the group. (At some point they were considering the group name “Belly Button”.)

Decal was actually my least favorite title track when I first started as a moo, and now its in my top 5. I think its because after hearing Decal live, I got more appreciation for the song. They SLAY Decalcomanie every. single. time they perform it. They love that song, and the love is infectious, it got me. I can watch live Decal performances all damn day. The prank was totally real. Decalcomanie is a French word for artwork done by folding like Rorshack blots. Our word decal comes from it. So that's reason for all of the mirroring in the video. Including the mirroring of 4 woman's experience of their first serious kiss and what it leads to. The slow section is actually a different song Memory. There is a video for that song as well.

If you want to cry, look up I love Too live from their Moosical. I wont say more but have kleenex ready. Mr Ambiguous was originally a song called mamamoo, played pre-debut at an after party for Quncy Jones when he did a concert in Korea well loved, so RBW rewrote the song into Korean renamed it to Mr Ambiguous and the group became Mamamoo. Since you like decalcomanie so much, check out the Queendom version of the song, which helped them win that contest(I miss you and Destiny as well). You two are hilarious to watch. I have been a Mamamoo stan for years, since Piano Man, I am really enjoying new moomoos discover the best group ever. Mamamoo are so good, they make the world a better place.

I’m so happy you’ve embarked on this Mamamoo journey! Really looking forward to your future reactions. A couple of recommendations now. These are my two favourite Decalcomanie videos.
1. Live performance comeback stage, on M Countdown. Those suits will leave you definitely not ok! Also listen for the fanchants. Also look out for Moonbyul and Solar playing rock-paper-scissors in the middle of the live performance (btw in Korea there’s an alternate hand shape for scissors).

2. An impossibly wholesome and charming video of a live performance in front of 300 Moomoos. The premise of the show was that each episode had a different group, and their fans would be invited to attend and create and perform an audience choreography to accompany the song. So the 300 Moomoos are performing their hearts out for Mamamoo, while Mamamoo is doing the same for them.

I think the intent of the interlude was to showcase that they were actually singing live and not lip syncing. It's very much a practical joke being played on them, IMO. While I get the intent, it's always bugged me a little.
Piano Man is probably my favorite of their songs. I feel like it's really underrated compared to their other songs. You think you like Moonbyul now. Wait until you hear her actually sing. Check out her performances on Second World. A show/contest where female k-pop rappers showcase their singing talents. She won. :)
You can certainly read more about their musical style and influences. But I have to say the look of this MV as like a opening credits to a 60s movie is intentional and that mustache on the finger that they keep motioning under their noses was an IMMEDIATE national craze. It caught on right away,... EVERYONE was doing that wherever you went. There was a butter commercial (I don't remember the brand) that stole it right away. And it helped heighten the craze of that like Hercule Perot mustache,... it was always like that same one everyone was using. You still see people with that glued to their pointy finger to this day. You can see how confidently great they are from the get go.
for mvs, wind flower (similar to starry night, also the visuals are stunning)-> gogobebe (fun party vibes)-> mumumuch (a gift to their fans, really sweet and adorable)-> dingga (made during the pandemic, similar to gogobebe musically) -> aya (similar to egotistic in vibes, visuals are... 🔥) -> where are we now (nostalgic, emotional) is a pretty good order bc wind flower is the oldest out of these, gogobebe comes next, dingga has a trailer for aya, and where are we now acts as kind of emotional recap/looking back on the (at the time) 7 years theyve been together.
- those are the more popular, main stream ones but 'taller than you' is one of their older songs and its pretty funny (basically all the members of mamamoo are under 163cm but wheein always gets teased bc shes the shortest and the song is just the 4 of them fighting over a 1cm hight difference😂), aze gag (translates to dad jokes) is hilarious but its a bit harder to vibe w if youre not korean, and i highly recommend their 'waggy' live performance in 유희열's sketchbook, its on yt and is the one where theyre wearing dog costumes

In case nobody has mentioned it if you want subtitles for MMM MVs prior to 2018 go to their yt channel and do a search for the MV you want. MMM always has two official MVs, one on their channel and another uploaded by a music distributor such as Stone Music Entertainment or 1theK and the early MVs on Stone Music Ent aren't subtitled. On the more recent MVs where both are subtitled the translations often differ and are more accurate in MMM's version. Unfortunately a general yt search usually only shows you the music distributor's MV rather than Mamamoo's.

I'm glad y'all appreciate older Mamamoo. :D Two other tracks from this era are "Yes I am" and "You're the Best." Their music took a departure from their big band/jazzy sort of sound with the start of the Four Seasons project, which includes the songs Egotistic, Starry Night, Wind Flower, and Gogobebe.
Also, Mamamoo's CF songs are absolute bangers for no reason hahaha. You should definitely give them a watch, they're a lot of fun! Their CF tracks that I enjoy most are Woohoo, Gleam, and Wanna be Myself. Mumumumuch is another song that sort of falls into that category of fun, vibey Mamamoo songs.
for piano man their performance on gaon chart awards is iconic. it’s one of their first award performances and hwabyul are in suits. their decalcomanie performance on m countdown is very good, too. even though they’re great in MVs i think they really shine live. they have so much stage presence, and you can tell they really enjoy performing. woo hoo and paint me are also songs with great live vocal performances especially
You guys should watch their ad libs during their performances for songs like decalcomanie, um oh ah yeah, etc

WOW! you girls are diving DEEEP into Mamamoo. Moomoos in the making!! These are some of their first releases as a group, each one rocketing up the Gaon music charts. If they ever have more "Moo Parties" for fans you need to see what they do at them. Forget about getting tickets tho. They tend to sell out over 1000 seats in minutes (even in LA). I'm sure you can either look up or find videos of their history. But just to say a few things about them. This is a group that KNEW how good they were before they were signed to RBW and had no money. They knew they were great and would just show up and make appearances as a singing group. They had worked almost as a back up group (more like guest singers really) for several other artists in the months leading up to their debut. Moonbyul had a sort of long running radio show (I think maybe she still does a version of it?) that you could pick up if you had a radio free hook up. After music school she was in the group Girls Next Door, before Mamamoo. Solar recently played Mata Hari in the musical of the same name with the soaring vocals that she is known for. Maybe ideal casting for a modern version of an actual real life infamous asian musical performer. Wheein has all kinds of solo projects going on,... all of them are very impressive as you might guess. While Wheein grew up an only child, her bandmate, Hwasa had several sisters. Can you imagine having Hwasa as your little sister?? Hwasa has been all over the place, making TV shows, writing music and collaborating with other artists like crazy (including Psy and she did this great song with Dua Lipa). We just never get to see much of it in the west. She was a featured vocalist on other artists music at age 18 and was with the group REFUND SISTERS. All of them are hugely popular in the east and each are brand ambassadors for too many products to mention. If you were watching TV over the last 8 years anywhere in the east, you would be seeing their faces endorsing everything from clothing to soft drinks to high fashion brands.
OH MY GOODNESS YES YES!! I clicked so fast when I saw the notification, y'all I absolutely LOVED all of these Music Videos and yes Piano Man was right after Mr. Ambiguous also that lady in Mr. Ambiguous I wasn't sure if she was an Actress or actually judging them or something but I know that it was actually real, they pranked the girls that's why they were all crying (she was telling them that they need to try harder because they weren't as good as some other Groups or something like that I can't remember)- and Piano Man was crazy as well very underrated with the Moonbyul slow mo, Wheein's high note at 11:58, Hwasa's bob haircut, and Solar's Vocals and Visuals! And Décalcomanie is such a fantastic Music Video (except for the man, to be that man- also you guys should see the Behind The Scenes it is so funny they legit are so uncomfortable with kissing him and I think even he was uncomfortable as well, I heard a rumor that he was actually Gay but I'm not sure to be Honest), the whole mirror scene had my jaw DROPPED and them in suits and those dresses were WOW (they all were wearing that blindfold by the way) and yeah that mirror was hollow I think- there was no glass in between, and that whole scene with the rainbow smoke was so cool and it makes sense with Mamamoo! Anyways I can't wait for you guys to react to more Mamamoo such as more Music Videos, B - Sides, Live Performances, Covers, Dance Practices, Moments, and of course Ships! I can't wait for more Content from you guys and I hope that you both are doing well and staying safe and healthy!

Hwasa and Wheein were 18 yrs. old in Mr. Ambiguous, such cuties. I love Mr. Ambiguous and Piano Man. The live performances of those two songs are so good. They recently recorded a live performance of Mr. Ambiguous on 'it's Live'.
