They actually did explain the reason everyone talked to the camera mockumentary style in the finale of the show. Apparently the whole family was filming a reality show the whole time, only reason nobody knew was because the show they filmed only aired in Luxembourg
Dont read my name😑
I was looking for this comment xD
Yeah I was gonna comment about that when he said it. It was honestly a really funny way to explain this, and fits the goofy tone of the show pretty well.
Oh... the finale somehow never really aired in my country, reading this now I can't say I like that twist... whatever thank you for enlightening me.
@@Ammiteur9 the irony of this
Honestly, the amount of people who didn’t know Liv and Maddie were both Dove Cameron for the longest time (myself included) just shows how great she performed in the show
she really had us all gagged playing both roles i thought it was an olsen twin situation
Not only that but bad editing would have easily broken the suspension of disbelief. It also wouldn't have worked if the other actors' didn't convincingly perform like they re talking to different people. it's a testament to how good the editing and other actor's performances were.
I knew they were the same person, but I did think she did a great job portraying two characters. It was easy to forget as you watched
what?
Frrrrrr
The fact that Dove created nuances for Liv & Maddie that would help differentiate them like what their dominant hand is or Liv's higher pitch voice is just shows how much dedication she had to playing them both.
Agreed. Shewas majorly talented and it's never talked about enough.
tbh as a kid Ii thought they were twins actors

The show does explain in the last episode why they are filming office style: there’s a company in another country that is filming a reality TV show about the family.

I gotta give major props to dove for being able to act as two characters for 4 seasons of television. I remember being so shocked when they had a between shows segment with her and she talked about playing both roles herself it blew my pre teen mind. also props to the camera and editing crew on the show for managing to make all the shots with both of them on screen or directly interacting pretty seamless. usually things like that are pretty obvious on kids shows but the team, dove, and her body double did a great job cuz I know a lot of other people were convinced this was a zack and cody dylan and cole type of thing too
I also thought they were real twins
Yeah she was amazing, she even won an Emmy for Outstanding Performer in a Children’s Series!
Definitely! She had me completely fooled/confused because I’ve heard of dove Cameron but I never heard of the other twin so I was like “wait is dove not a twin???” And then saw the segment where she talked about filming it and they showed her and her stunt double and my mind was blown I never thought that it was dove acting to herself essentially
you should see tvd Nina dobrev played like 5 different roles for like 8 season and you could tell which character she was playing like katherine or elena.
Tatiana Maslany played over 10 different characters in Orphan Black so Dove Cameron acting is not too impresive compared to Tatiana

Fun Fact : Something that I always think about is how in the first episode , Liv says "you stole my face" then Maddie says "I had it first" which makes us automatically think that Maddie is the older twin. But later on in the show when we find out that Liv and Maddie are born on different days , (we find out that Liv was actually born a day early. Liv was born at about 11:56pm on the 5th and Maddie was born at 12:04am on the 6th) So maybe this was just a writing mistake or something. I don't know

I never really realized it but having Maddie as a role model character was really great for me growing up. At the moment I can't think of many tomboyish characters that weren't overly aggressive to the point where the show discouraged from being like them. Maddie was great for me because 1. she loved basketball (my favorite sport as a kid), 2. when it came to having relationships, Maddie was the one who had a consistent boyfriend and she had the better friends, so she seemed more real and relatable, 3. they weren't afraid to have Maddie be sensitive. She went through so many realistic struggles like whenever something was impacted by Liv being back or when she went through stuff with Diggie. They also let her explore her more "girly" side when Liv forced her to be a 3D mirror (I cannot believe I'm writing this). Anyway, all this to say, Maddie was a nice reminder that I can feel pretty while being a jock. Alex, if you're reading this, I recommend you watch season 2 episode 18 and the last episode of season 3. They both make me cry almost every time. I know it's just a stupid disney channel show, but somehow they get the emotions just right when it matters. It kind of feels natural. Sure it’s over the top but it’s about a close knit family getting used to being a family of six again after their eldest was gone for four years.
They had good characters: willow, sal, stet, dump truck, falcon, etc
It's much more of standard family sitcom than a lot of Disney Channel fare. I think because nearly everyone gets their chance to play both straight and comedy, none of the characters become too grating.
I have to say, the show definitely gets progressively better with it even peaking in season 3. In the pilot, the characters are essentially caricatures of what they eventually become by the third season. The writing gets more realistic, specifically with the relationships. If this video turned you off to this show, just know that it gets progressively better and more enjoyable

I know Alex only covers mostly the first episode of these shows… but I want to put my peace out there and say I HATED DIGGIE as a character. Maddie should have not ended up with him and Disney didn’t listen to their fans even after THE LIVE VOTING and made us hate Maddie’s relationship for the rest of the show (after all that character growth from the breakup). Diggie is like that starter boyfriend but Josh was the real deal for her and those episodes where she was handling the breakup felt realistic and relateable. I’m still super mad at Disney for doing that to Maddie and giving her the short end of the stick when we all thought Josh and Maddie could have had so much more development with their relationship instead of sending a message that (it always has to be your first love no matter how toxic it was)
I HAVE SAID MY PEACE… feel free to comment if you agree or disagree
Edit: didn’t know my comment would blow up like this thank you guys for the love
I agree, but I LOVE Ryan McCartan! (The actor) he does amazing stuff on Broadway
Diggie was horrible to Maddie, he was so toxic, Josh was great. I don’t really remember why I stopped watching the show while it was airing, but it might have had to do with Maddie getting with Diggie rather than Josh during the live voting wedding episode, like Josh was so sweet and caring
Josh has ALWAYS proven to be the better boyfriend, disney messed up with making maddie and diggie get back together
Ryan McCartan also hates Diggie
I know they did that most likely did that because Ryan & Dove were together & then engaged at the time of filming the show.

I haven't heard about the Dove Cameron controversy. What did she do???
in the topic of twin representation, i do think it's overdone but only with identical twins. i have a fraternal twin sister, we don't even look related, so i couldn't really see ourselves in these type of shows (i was still obsessed with twin media though. twitches - a masterpiece)
Yeah, I know both fraternal twins and triplets(separate families). They all look severely different from each other, I can see your frustration.
I always thought twins were cool though, I'm not the only one
as someone who met a pair of twins (fraternal girls) and personally knew a set of triplets growing up (two boys and one girl, fraternal of course) it really opened my eyes to the fact that in addition to over-representation there's a lot of misrepresentation too. most aren't exact clones or polar opposites but somewhere in the middle. much of the tension is external; constantly being compared to your sibling, being sandwiched into a collective when you're just trying to be an individual. you're existence commodified and in some instances sexualized in the most demeaning of ways. which is why I found it very difficult to enjoy media where the whole punchline is "see? they may LOOK the exact same, but they ACT like exact opposites!" because it didn't ever feel realistic.
Yeah, there’s so many identical twin shows, I remember my twin brother and I always got annoyed, like why is everyone so obsessed with twins? Like twins aren’t that special. 😭 But also being a twin really sucks IMO we’re constantly being compared and competing against eachother. Like I can’t go two seconds without someone going “well your brother did this,” or “why aren’t you more like you’re brother,” ect.
Growing up I was friends with twin sisters, and they looked and acted nothing alike!! One looked just like their mom and was super quiet and studious, and the other looked just like their dad and was extremely outgoing and athletic. They had a little sister who was a couple years younger, who looked nothing like either of them, nor the parents (she was indeed their full sister, no infidelity involved). If I didn't know them, I would have maybeeeee assumed that they were cousins.
Real life identical twin here. Hi. I think there is definitely an overdone amount of rep for identical twins, but I'm actually still deeply dissatisfied with the rep we get. Like, without getting too deep into it, growing up being treated like I wasn't my own person, getting asked questions about if I literally had the same personality as her, getting creepy guys coming up to me and asking invasive and utterly disgusting questions about my relationship with her, having people assume they could violate my personal space and boundaries because they were close with my twin even tho I had never met the person, it was brutal. I can count on one hand the times someone gave me a personal card addressed solely to me. Not to mention that we were constantly compared to each other. From ages 4 to 11 we both thought our parents wished we were more like the other. it honestly messed both of us up a lot, to the degree that at one point, I planned on committing suicide because I thought my only purpose in life was to be there for her, and I couldn't handle being in that situation anymore. I'm at a point where it is so romanticized, that I wished people would stop putting us in shows at all. Like, go deeper and give real character development, or shut up and spice up your show using a different pairing of blood related people to be in an incestuous relationship. I am so done. I can't even watch shows with identical twins anymore, it just depresses me. sorry for such a long comment, I just had to vent i guess.
I remember there was one episode in a later season where they kinda poked fun at the fact that Dove Cameron played Liv and Maddie because Joey (the older brother) made a short film and he played two characters and when the family saw it Liv and Maddie commented about how he played two characters and it must be really hard and he said it wasn’t that hard

this is the type of show that takes a bit to hit its stride but it's actually one of the more decent Disney channel original shows. This reminds me of how when my brother comes home every couple months and just randomly start playing his guitar and singing at the top of his lungs, but for some reason he does it at the most inconvienent times, like when I am doing homework or playing videogames or trying to watch a show. And the worst part is that he only plays 3 different songs on repeat and usually out of tune or off tempo. Like he used to sing great when he was in high school Drama club but now that he is an adult, its like his voice is always off pitch. Anyway thats my rant
I'm going to sound like such a nerd for this show, but they actually *DO* explain why they have the confessional "talking to the camera" bits in the very last episode of the whole show. They reveal that after the conclusion of Sing it Loud, she was offered a reality show that would film and showcase her family life. It was called bits and pieces and was aired solely in Luxembourg XD
Again, it was talked about in the last episode of the last season where they have Dumptruck walk in on the middle of one of them and either liv or maddie (heck, or maybe joey, it's been a while) has to explain the whole thing and he starts to bing watch the series throughout the rest of the episode XD

3:34 Gravity Falls actually had a reason for the protagonists being twins, which was they were based off of the show creator Alex Hirsch and his twin sister, Ariel.
I will say it never occurred to me to question how many twins end up in these shows because my high school had literally two sets of twins. And when you get to know them you can tell which is which. One of the reasons I have such a high standard for actors is because of real life twins. They have different personalities, mannerisms etc. So when an actor is playing a "different" person but moves and acts just like every other character they've ever played it's like "really?!"
Funnily enough I went to school with two sets of twins - both sets had the same birthday. Coincidentally also had two friends who shared birthdays with their younger sibling.
She had different wigs, nail polish, and dominant hands for Liv and Maddie, so she did change how she acted for each of them
My school has 8 sets of twins lol… two seems like such a small number to me💀
@@Narra0002 I know. I can tell just from the pilot. But there are actors whom if you binge watch their movies they never change how they speak, talk, move etc every character is the same person with a different name. Jodie Foster is one.
Liv and Maddy seemed rather tame as compared to the other shows. I genuinely enjoyed the show I will admit it had some weird moments though
Dont read my name...Dont read my name
No because this show was really good. It’s not that cringey as Sony with the Chance. Not surprised it got 4 seasons, plus Disney really loved Dove Cameron and made her more famous with the Descendants trilogy.
same.
Pick up your cross and follow Jesus! The world is quickly headed for destruction, and sooner or later you will have to sit at the judgement seat and give an account for your actions. Belief in messiah alone is not enough to grant you salvation - Matthew 7:21-23, John 3:3, John 3:36 (ESV is the best translation for John 3:36). Call on the name of Jesus and pray for Him to intervene in your life! - Revelation 3:20.
Contemplate how the Roman Empire fulfilled the role of the beast from the sea in Revelation 13. Revelation 17 confirms that it is in fact Rome. From this we can conclude that A) Jesus is the Son of God and can predict the future or make it happen, B) The world leaders/nations/governments etc have been conspiring together for the last 3000+ years going back to Babylon and before, C) History as we know it is fake. You don't really need to speculate once you start a relationship with God tho.
Can't get a response from God? Fasting can help increase your perception and prayer can help initiate events. God will ignore you if your prayer does not align with His purpose (James 4:3) or if you are approaching Him when "unclean" (Isaiah 1:15, Isaiah 59:2, Micah 3:4). Stop eating food sacrificed to idols (McDonald's, Wendy's etc) stop glorifying yourself on social media or making other images of yourself (Second Commandment), stop gossiping about other people, stop watching obscene content etc and you should get a response. Have a blessed day!
You’re right about twins being in so many shows. I never noticed because-just in my elementary school (or, at least with people I knew, since there were probably more), there were four sets of twins and a set of triplets. Also, this was not in my school, but my older sister also knew another set of triplets.
Except dove is not a twin or was Lindsay Lohan or the twins in the old parent trap movies
@@ginapetolicchio2684 - yep. I never said that they were.
This is everyone's PSA that Diggy deserves the "big red flag" montage. Even just the first episode. Justice for Josh!

they explained why they're talking to the camera in the series finale!
While Joey was doing his bit, DumpTruck came in and asked "what's with all the cameras?" Joey then explained that ever since Liv came back from Hollywood, they have been filming a reality TV show called Bits and Pieces that airs in Luxemburg [apologies if i got the spelling wrong]. So, that is why for 3 years, they've been talking to the cameras👍🏼
When you made a point on Liv and Maddie both being blond while the parents have brown-black hair, it’s important to know that genetic features of a human can come from other biological family members. That being said it’s possible that Liv and Maddie both are blond bc a probably grandparent has the same type of hair. I mean heck I got my hair type more from my great grandmother than from my own mother lol.
Yes!! So most people in my family have brown hair and darker eyes, and my husband is half Dominican with dark skin and dark eyes. We have three sons. Our oldest is a mix of us both, our middle has the same dark skin tone as his Dad, and then our youngest has fluorescent white skin with blond hair and blue eyes. The only other family member I know with his features is my second cousin. Genetics are weird!
Karen (Liv and Maddies mom)'s mom and her twin is blonde 👍🏼
@@thekitkatlizard8661 I was wondering if the youngest brother was supposed to be adopted in the show. I don't recall ever saying that though. Especially his character is Asian and everyone else is definitely white.
My theatre kid ass was watching this and I was like "IS THAT RYAN MCCARTAN????"
(I checked, it was.)
When this show first came out, I remember me and my father would turn on the TV after dinner and binge this show. At the time, that was the only time me and him could hang out, since he was always working, so Liv and Maddie will forever hold a place in my heart.
they actually "explained" the whole cutaway interviews at the finale of the show. apparently there family was staring in a reality TV show about a famous teenager (liv) living a normal life
uuuu we have the same profile picture😍
@@borsveronika lol 😂
They did explain the mocumentary thing. When Liv came back they were doing a Hollywood show about their family. Also, I liked Liv and Maddie as a kid, but I think it's weird for adults.
I live in WI. It is true you can’t welcome someone home without some kind of cheese😂
this is probably the first show you've covered that i actually want to watch. And I also think this writing actually is pretty good. one of the things i loved in the Lindsey Lohan jamie lee curtis freaky friday was the fact that no matter which body she was in the guy recognized the girl he liked "i can tell you one thing,he certainly likes you for your mind!" So I actually really like the trope of the guy/girl seeing their love interest with all of their flaws and liking them anyway. Its cute and feels nice
Believe me it's even greater as the seasons go on
WATCH IT!!! You won’t be disappointed
The difference is the guy actually got to know the woman's mind. Here, they've never had a conversation outside awkward short talks in the hallway between classes, so him saying he knows the "real her" is at least disingenuous.
The show definitely peaks around season 3, so I would reccomend it
@@trianglemoebius Indeed
Doves Cameron’s progression has honestly been great to watch. She left an abusive relationship, lost a parent, learned what she wanted and liked and then went after it.
abusive relationship????
.
Why losing a parent Is good?, Was this persona abusive to her or something?
@@primrosetakeva4848 if I am not mistaken the actor that was in the relationship with the Maddie character he and dove dated in real life I've heard he was abusive

I had a nostalgia trip with Liv and Maddie but realizing that she played both characters surprised me when I was a clueless 12 year old😂
With the blonde hair thing, it could be the parents both had the gene for blonde but it didn’t show up for them but did for the twins. I had a kid in my class with that kinda thing but it was red hair not blonde
I actually really liked the mockumentary style thing they did, it adds an intresting layer to the show.
I’d guess it was more inspired by Modern Family than The Office given the domestic nature of the show.
9:00 when he does the fake hurl in his videos it gets me everytime😂. I’m literally the same way when it comes to cheesy stuff in movies lol
Yea, I always thought it was odd how this family didn't look like each other at all. It was because the actors were cast for a different premise about a blended family, but still.
I’m just going to assume Liv and Maddie didn’t get the brunette genes and that there is another blonde in the family.
@i gotsa know! he, Teddy and Charlie had the same eye shape as Bob. But Gabe’s we’re brown
@i gotsa know! you do realize genetics exist right ☠️
@@reannagordon I was referring to their skin tones. The parents are both a darker tan, Liv and Maddie are light tanned, Joey is white and obviously Jewish, and Parker is played by a descendant of a Tibetan Sherpa who was one of the first to reach the top of Mount Everest, which is why he is not Caucasian like the rest of the cast.
7:56 - this actually encapsulates my longterm relationship with my kids' mom. I should have gotten to know her and she should have gotten to know me, but we just wanted /anyone/ to touch butts with.
i adored liv and maddie when i was younger. i’m so glad you covered the show!
Dont read my name...Dont read my name
@Don't read profile photo sure
Never seen the show. But the part where he says he knows it wasn’t her- kinda cute. I know several pairs of twins and getting mistaken for each other when young was funny, but as older teens/adults, they really did appreciate when people knew them enough to know one from the other.
But the “can someone please hit this kid with a brick”- I spewed my food. 🤣 so thanks for that! That announcer nonsense is definitely annoying.
It was a pretty good show but cringey and corny at times
They have always condemned us women to be either pretty and popular or smart and athletic, as if we can't be both. This really affected me growing up, when I dressed up and wore make-up I felt dumb and when I won gold medals for sports and science I felt ugly. Now I have unlearned that and know I'm both pretty and smart. I hope everyone else does too.
How so? Most shows have neither.
@@XxTR1D this entire show is one character whos a pretty dumb girl and the other one is an "ugly" sporty nerd character
@@jacobjenkins7362 no one said they’re ugly. And they made a whole song about what a girl is
@@jacobjenkins7362 there was a whole episode about how Liv helped her brothers win a contest about being smart (i cant remember exactly what it was because i haven’t watched this show in a while) so that people knew that they could be smart and pretty. there was also an episode about how you shouldn’t have to be pretty to be seen as a girl. if you really believe that then you didnt really watch the show
why did I JUST now realize that this is where the YOU LIKE MADDIE trend is from
The first time I found out that dove Cameron played both characters, my mind couldn't comprehend and was completely shocked. Like what? How could a person be in the same room as herself?
Power of editing
I remember watching Disney Channel and during a break they revealed how Dove would play two characters. She would have two other look a like actors play Liv and Maddie so she could like talk to someone during the scenes and then there’s like a certain line on the floor she’s not supposed to cross and then the magic of editing comes through. It on UA-cam now.

I agree.
Agreed
You do have to remember that Alex is in his thirties and grew up watch Disney Channel shows like Kim Possible, Even Stevens and That's So Raven. I am 30 and I grew up watching the older Disney Channel shows. I thought Liv and Maddie was a decent show. Except that Disney Channel seems to think that kids nowadays are stupid. Because the shows have gotten progressively dumber.

liv and Maddie were one of my favorite shows as a kid and recently I rewatched it and ngl it still holds up. personally, I thought it was one of Disney's best shows!
Same I adored it
I love your videos. I just wish they were a bit longer.
Liv and Maddie was surprisingly a really good show. Like at the time it first aired I didn't want to watch it because I thought it would be a rip off of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody -- you know since the show was about TWINS. But I gave it a chance and I really liked it. Sure, the show was cringe sometimes but other than that the songs were really good and I loved the Rooney family. They really cared about one another and the sibling relationship between Liv and Maddie was really sweet as well. I loved their little saying "Sisters by Chance, Friends by Choice" and I think Dove Cameron did an excellent job portraying two people at the same time and really capturing the complicated yet loving relationships of twins. I give the show a 7/10 because it really is good.
"As Long as I Have You" was a straight-up bop that I could've legitimately heard on the radio by a real band. 🥰
Yeah, it's a pretty good show!
Actually Diggie and Maddie are brothers
Count me in is one of my favourite songs. And im happy this show entreduced me to it
😂yes because anything that includes Twins is automatically a ripoff, SOLID logic there mate (!)
i think the bigger question for the parents isn't where did the blondes come from, it's why in the world did they let their 15-year-old (who i'm assuming was much younger when she left) daughter go off to Hollywood by herself?
She didn't go by herself she was living with her aunt and cousin. (If you watched the later seasons.)

Parker, Joey and willow were my favorite characters, whenever I saw them I knew I'd burst in laugh immediately. I loved the bond between Parker and Joey they were like best friends but with the brotherhood thing going on at the same time. Also there's a ton of funny characters there that I liked a lot and in general this show was pretty good to me, watched while being in highschool and with all that "growing pain" going on I had something to run to, it's probably one of the fewest Disney show I watched and liked!
Dove Cameron does a really good job of playing two completely different types of characters. It’s so hard to tell what her actual like style is.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I’m an identical twin and I was a preteen when this show aired, and I HATED how many people tried to categorize us the way Maddie and Liv are categorized (trying to force us to be “the girly twin” and “the athletic twin” etc.) It was bad before since we do look verryyyyy identical, but it got 10 times more annoying because of this show
That happend to me and my twin too

I think the actor who played the youngest brother in Liv and Maddie actually played Gia's love interest in Boo Bitch. And yess, i am waiting for that video

As someone who played sports and wears glasses, sometimes it's less of a hassle to wear the sports goggles than it is to where the contacts.
