This is Borealis #3 and arguably the best of the bunch so far. They really do make a solid watch. No points for originality today, but plenty for practicality, wearability and luuuuume! Cheers, JOMW.
I think the weird angle dude on the case-back is Boreas, from Greek Mythology, where the word Borealis comes from. He's the god of the north wind and he carries the wind around in that bag. I hope that clears up the case-back design.

@@JustOneMoreWatch agreed. I think if there's not going to be a good engraving of a logo/design, just having it clean with the features is enough, rather than to have a goofy-looking (my opinion) caseback.
The prototype of their Portus Cale has this on the caseback, but the actual production models had the mermaid that previous models had. They probably will put the mermaid on the production models.

Ok. I like this one. The hands look like they are directly off a Seiko SNZG (not a bad thing), and I love the bezel. If seiko was making this watch I would have already purchased one.
Lets face it 99% of these type of desk divers never see deep water. Just bought a Tissot Seastar 1000 powermatic and no way is that going in the pool or sea lol. Great review Jody as always.
Agree 100%. 100m and a screw down crown is more than sufficient for me, and if people are being honest, probably them as well.
I've been anxiously awaiting this one since missing out on the V1. Needless to say, I jumped when these were released, choosing an old radium lume, non-date version. Now, it's all down to the waiting... It looks even better in the video than on the website.
I was able to pre-order this version but with no date.
Only thing I think they should of done differently is use the Miyota 9015 movement, they used it in the Portus Cale. However the NH35 is still a great movement.
I'm wearing a Borealis Naval brass. My new favorite watch. This 42mm watch fits my 7 inch wrist like a 40mm, and the specs (300 meters, stainless back, date complication, sapphire crystal, terrific lume, and Miyota 9015 movement) are an outstanding value at $398 US.
Yep I have a lot of love for that one too it really pops. Obviously 🙄 there is the thickness issue and I prefer the Estoril. They are a cracking brand though just a shame they are limited runs of production. However that seems to be the case for a lot of microbrands, Helm for example.
I ordered that same watch (no date) and it'll be here in January. I hope I like it as much as I think I will.
Put my 50% down on vintage lume version some weeks ago. Christmas present from my other half. Having to wait 'till January is a bugger. Watch looks really good, glad you gave it a good review !

Good morning, l must live in some kind of watch vacuum. I Live in a small town 45 mins north of Montreal.1 in 10 people ware a watch, of those most are department store watches. The only homage to a Rolex l have ever seen is mine. The only Rolex I've seen is mine. I also have never seen a Seiko forget about a Blancpain. This includes my many trips into Montreal. I keep reading and hearing how the Rolex Sub is so prevalent, not here. Two AD'S in town.
Came close to ordering this a few weeks ago, but the version with the old radium loom. However hesitated due to not really knowing enough about it. Having seen your review I think I'm going to pull the trigger! Cheers!

Fantastic review of a much sought after homage. It certainly took a while for this version and I couldn't wait so I purchased the TMD Industries watch. To be honest I would have been glad for either.

Not a fan of divers - until I saw this wow! Perfect size great clear dial and the lume OMG and agreed that BGW9 is great would make a great travel watch. Great watch per usual great review now shuffle off to Buffalo.
Good value, but I like the Phoibos PY007 better for $299. A real diver, which I bought based on your review. Thank you for the review.

As usual, incredible presentation and production. I love the bright white hands...one of the features that drew me to my Omega Speedmaster Professional from 1971, and my Bulova Lunar Pilot.
Not a huge fan of the large numerals. To me they make it look a bit toy-ish. I’m sure it would be different on the wrist.
Love the 50 Fathoms, especially the Aqua Lung. Though a little more, I went for the Helson Skin Diver and was not disappointed.
Really like the legibility. The lugs seem to be pushed away from the case, making for odd looking end links. Otherwise it looks very well executed.

I've got the 1st generation Sea Storm and it is such a solid well made piece. Not really sure what they were thinking with the 'Biohazard' logo design though.

Three mm too thick or I'd go for it. NH 35 doesn't have to be that thick.
Definitely one of the best BlancPain 55 homage. Too bad the bezel doesn't have equally impressive enduring lume as the hands and dial does.. but, then again, I've found most other watches that have a lumed bezel also lacking in the lume endurance when compared to the hands and dials. I mean if it's supposed to be a somewhat serious diving watch, I think it would make sense to have the all important timing bezel to maintain lume equally as the rest of the watch since you will need to reference that for your air supply and total safe dive time.
I wonder if it might have been possible to be made just a bit thinner.. The thickness is wearable, but I can't help but think it might be a little nicer had they shaved off the height a few millimeters. The sides are very slab cut and straight, thus adding to the thick look.
Had the case sides been cut about 1/2 or even 1/3 the ways up from the bottom and tapered/beveled into the case back, it may have allowed the case to maintain it's thickness since most of the side profile would recede from view and the watch would probably sit into the wrist more thus lowering it's overall visual presence and profile.
But, overall, much to love and enjoy for the price with this Borealis.

Really like the chunkiness, no need to slim it down imo. As with all these micro brands will have to see what is left of it in 10 years to say whether or not its really worth it.
Hey, you should check out Tempest watches. Affordable full titanium diver with easy adjust clasp, full glow dial and sapphire bezel.
Don't like the all brushed look or the tubby case. But then I like a more dressy diver like the Seagull Ocean Star.
Yeah, tubby, chunky divers are big business these days - guys seem to love the look. I think those of us who prefer the more elegant look are in the minority!

neil piper Ha! I do too but it doesn’t help when you email Borealis to ask if they have any plans to bring back the more elegant Portus Cale or Cascais and they reply ‘no’ because there is no demand. All they’re selling now is the uglier, tool-like stuff as it’s more popular. A little frustrating ...

Love your reviews. I’d like to see some reviews of affordable watches with a GMT/dual time complication. Time with a date complication is a fine thing but a constant diet of the same thing with a slightly different flavor becomes tedious.

Nice quality watch and amazing lume however not exactly a head turner - imo the Richard Le Grand you reviewed and the sadly discontinued Borealis Cascais and Portus Cale blow it clean out of the water on the aesthetics front.
What was the other blancpain homages? It's a lovely watch, I'd like to get a blancpain home, it's just a watch that is hardly every copied/homage'd. The Seiko 55 fathom is rare enough!

Looks like a Steinhart bracelet. Wouldn't be surprised if they came from the same manufacturer in China. The caseback artwork looks awful and childish. Other than that, if the watch was a few mm smaller, it would be an amazing purchase for me. Make your next batch in a 39mm, Borealis! Show some love for us 6.5ers...

The whole Borealis watch-series looks allmost identical to the Seiko series in their respective classes. Not to say Seiko is looking for inspiration elsewhere, but still...

For less than 100 us you can get a Corgeut in Aliexpress. Is borderline replica, but if the aesthetics is the key, I find it more appealing. It has a Miyota 8215 and mineral cristal.
Or for about $230 get the Spinnaker Fleuss, sapphire crystal, etc. It really is a nice middle ground.

yup, the names of the other watches set me off. Yet, for being such a sucessful brand (they sell out all of their watches) i never heard of them in Portugal.

their target market is clearly the watch enthusiast crowd. The average portuguese is not versed in horology, because it is an expensive hobby. The other day a collegue of mine thought my watch was broken bc the second hand was "spinning out of control", i had to introduce to her the concept of not all watches being quartz...
