  • Low water pressure in kitchen sink ... no problem! (Aerator FAQs and Buyer Guide below)

If your water still isn't working find a reliable contractor ⇨ buyersguides.co/thumbtack
I hope this video helps you fix your faucet. I love making videos like these and now I do it as a side hustle to save for my son's college education. If you'd like to make a donation as a thank you for helping you fix your faucet just go to buyersguides.co/ugift and enter code Z05-J2U
Any and every donation helps! Thank you so much for your consideration.
You need to either clean your aerator or purchase a new one as mentioned in the video.
Frankly, it's way too complicated buying an aerator but I'll do my best to explain below what you need to know.
If you have a newer faucet on the aerator cap (housing) they will print the Max GPM (gallons per minute) on the cap. Typical GPM are 1.2 - 2.2 GPM. Lower GPM will be less pressure but you'll save on water bills. Higher GPM will create a stronger flow.
For what it's worth, on my two newer faucets it said max GMP of 1.5.
You'll want to determine the aerator size as well.
This tool makes this easy: Amazon (paid link) buyersguides.co/danco-aerator
It's a multifunctional aerator tool made by Danco that is helpful with removing internal aerators common to kitchen sinks. If you click through the images the fourth image explains the four sizes of aerators.
    1. Standard
    2. Tiny Junior
    3. Junior
    4. Tom Thumb
On that image, it will show you how you can use a penny, dime, nickel or quarter to determine the aerator size as well. The tool itself can do this too by comparing the teeth of the tool against your aerator. Those same teeth are used to unscrew internal aerators that are common in kitchen faucets.
Once you know the GPM you want and the size of the aerator... you'll need to decide on the type of water flow you want.
    There are three main types:
    1. Spray
    2. Laminar
    3. Aerated
Spray - This is common in cheaper hotels or school bathrooms where the water is shot out in a spray to mimic a miniature shower pattern. This is suggested for public bathrooms.
Laminar - This is pure non-aerated water which is great for a non-splashing stream. These look classier in my opinion.
Aerated - This is a traditional style where you'll see little bubbles in the stream which create a whiter stream that is soft and non-splashing. These are the most common in households.
If you look at this dual spray kitchen aerator, in the images you'll see that it offers spray and aerated. Amazon (paid link) buyersguides.co/aerator-fauce...
This aerator is a laminar flow: Amazon (paid link) buyersguides.co/faucet-lamina...
This will have that pure stream look where the water looks clear. These are common in higher end faucets.
The last item I'll mention is thread size. Every aerator is either male or female threaded.
If you look at the 1:18 mark of the video you can see that this aerator cap has male threads (they're on the outside of the aerator cap) and the faucet itself has female threads hidden inside of the faucet head. Most faucets are like this but yours might be reversed.
So chances are you're looking for a male thread aerator if you're buying the housing.
Regular/Standard size aerators = 15/16" male threaded or 55/64" female threaded
Junior size = 13/16" male threaded or 3/4" female threaded.
Tom Thumb size is metric = M18x1 for male and M16x1 female threaded.
If you have a delta faucet I'd go with this ⇨ Amazon (paid link) buyersguides.co/delta-fauncet...
If you have a moen faucet this should work - Amazon (paid link) buyersguides.co/moen-3919
If you want to reduce water bills (nice for rental properties or families with little kids) I'd suggest this - Amazon (paid link) buyersguides.co/faucet-aerator
Lastly, if you're looking for water purification services I'd suggest checking out watercureusa.com/

Another way is using the handles of the pliers to take of the aerorator. The rubber handles grip surprisingly well.

Thank you! My faucet water was extremely low to the point it was just about dripping when turned on for 8 months. A plumber is too expensive for me. Finally, I thought to search for solutions on internet. This video was the first I seen which less than two weeks ago. Today, I went to Home Depot seen a variety of aerators in the plumbing section. I asked for help from a rep who referred me to another rep that pointed out a universal aerator for $4.97. I purchased it. Got home, located my wrench, removed old aerator, and replaced it with new one. The job took less than 30 SECONDS. Now, my water flows out great! THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR WISDOM!!! It has resolved an 8 month issue and only cost me less than $6 with tax! :-)

That was my problem.thank you! I feel stupid now that I let this problem go unresolved for months and embarrassing to say maybe even a few years knowing I was too lazy to try to remove this and get a new one . And thank you UA-cam for providing a platform like this . This has been my 5th or 6th home repair that I've relied on youtube videos to fix. I've fixed my dryer heating element..my freezer defroster .. I've repaired my window screens and installed new ones using UA-cam instructionals and now this!!! Saved so much money!!

I can't believe it was that easy! I was sure my landlord had pulled some kind of lever under the sink the last time he was here... Decided to give this a go since it couldn't hurt, and sure enough... now I can finally wash my hands properly in the bathroom after months of annoyance :P I didn't even buy a new piece, just scrubbed down the one that was already in there. Ran the hot water before replacing it, and lots of brown water came out before it turned clear.
01:20 Mine was not idiot proof as it had no colors on it, and the beam that sprouted out of my sink when I first put it up-side-down was quite...interesting :') Best part was when I told my husband: "Look, I fixed the sink!" and then had the water sprouting everywhere xD I knew what I had done though, so I quickly turned it and I think he still loves me :P

While replacing Stem due to slow drip that I didn't want to wait to turn into a steady drain, I dislodge debris when turning off the valves, or removing the stems).
It was driving me crazy because it worked, then it was slow, then nothing.
Didn't even think it could be the aerator being clogged. Hopefully, I remember this in the future.

Had my water heater replaced 10 days ago and then only bathroom cold faucet began to run slow, then the hot. Next both just dribbled. After viewing video I tried it. Lots of sediment so I put a bowl in the sink when I cleaned the hole the aerator came from and ran the water. Used a vinegar bath for about 5 minutes and picked out any sediment with a safety pin. Original aerator popped back in and I now have free flowing water. Thank you so much

If you have a cache sink and don't have a Aerator Key, a quarter will work! Mine worked like a charm, cleaned it out and water pressure is back to normal.

When I figured this out, I was like "You gotta be kidding me!?!" because that sink didn't work well for over a year. Such an easy fix. Thanks for the comment.
