10 things I love about my ST mk2. 1- The sound 2- The torque 3- The seats (ST3 leather Recaros) 4- The mid range acceleration 5- It's planted in corners 6- It buggers off out of corners in the right gear 7- All the tuning options available 8- They are cheap to buy and you can mod them at your own pace until you end up with a fantastic car 9- The huge knowledge base on the internet and support from workshops like yourselves. 10- My ST keeps me busy and I love to do stuff on it and enjoy the results.
Great vid lads!! I think I've replaced most of your list. MK2 ST3 130,000miles.... Clutch kit, wheel nuts, heat shield, alternator, had rear bumper/arches repainted and clear rubber strips added in between to stop rubbing, all the bushes got swapped to powerflex, rear drop links done, DRIVE SHRAFT TWICE!!!, she's still running original hoses after 12years so might check them and the oil housing issue you mentioned with the serial number ending in 1.
hahaha I've probably broken 10/16 of the items mentioned on this video over a 5 year period! somehow i cant even imagine selling that car! If only we had a bigger ST225 market in S.A...You guys have the benefit of parts galore!
Sthembiso Dlamini that’s pretty high odds to be fair! Hopefully you don’t hit a full run! Lol Thanks for the comment from across the water as it were! 💙
The only real pain I've had on my 2010 Mk2.5 ST is water ingress. Had it in the boot from the boot hinge cups and both front footwells. Replaced the rear light screws which made no difference. Then after a week of confusion in trying to find it, I sealed up all the seams in that area. No more water ingress in the boot. Didnt do a pretty job, but it effective. Think the car had a front end impact before I bought it. This now has resulted in me getting bulk head seam cracking in the sealant that allows water in. Now all sealed up after 3 or 4 attempts and ok (fingers crossed). Taken 5 years or so since purchase to show itself as an issue. I think this lead to needing a new instrument cluster, the one with the larger sat-nav screen. Now 2 years after that, earlier this year the PATS light in the centre (above the fuel / temp guages) comes on when I am driving, flashing, going off ... repeat. No issues with driving or anything else. My garage have cleaned the connectors to the loom by the fuse box and its stopped doing it. The connectors were a little corroded, so this may also be water ingress linked. Minor annoyance is the boot handle gasket fails to that it rubs the boot. Was doing this for ages, rubbed the paint off back to metal then rusted a bit. Had it fixed and then 2.5 years later it was doing it again. Rarely use the boot aswell so there i'snt an over use issue. Car is 100% standard aswell. I have got a little lacquer peal on the front bumper but thats linked to the possible front ender above but had my rear quarter painted (3dr) as the rear bumper was rubbing and started to bubble. Not totally fixed as it started to rust again very minor where it folds under. ATS hate the wheel nut beauty caps as they are a pain. Had the car since July 2014 and done 17,000 in it, not getting rid any time soon. I do run genuine RS plugs as I have found idle is smoother but is that just me? This is my 2nd one, had an '07 for 4.5 years before this aswell. Want a new reversing camera as mine has it as an optional extra but the dome outer is cracked part way through so it gets condensation it it and isnt great when its damp or wet out. Fine otherwise. All in all, lucky I think as the driveshafts are fine, no cracked liners and no block mod needed.

I have a 12 year old ST and the only fault I've had is the boost pipe leak last year. The rest of the car is original and never had any of the other faults. Plus its been lowered and remapped for 8 years. Great car.
@@BDPerformanceWrexham To be fair my previous 2005 ST had about half of the faults by 3 years old ! My 2008 facelift has been massively more reliable. 😃
As good as you lot are with these I have to disagree about the wheel bearings being a pain to do . I've done many and unless you get a stuck stretch bolt in the shock to hub or a stuck driveshaft or a rare top mount bolt spinning then you can just walk through these with ease , on the mk2 St or general mk2's any way as I've not had the chance on the rs mk2. If nothings stuck then apron 30 mins per side is quite comfortable to do even though quoted times are a little longer if I recall , if stuck then as you know ........how long is a piece of string lol
Richard Houston McMillan I think it’s best to understand the problems surrounding each make and model. Let’s face it they all have issues BUT many have had no issues whatsoever with these cars. My personal opinion is not that of the whole owners network and only based upon our experience. Unfortunately ours hasn’t been so great. However I know of Mk3s that people have owned for years without issue! If you at least understand that there are problems; you know what to look for! Please don’t let this put you off from looking - just know what to look for. Hope that this helps, TeamBD
speedy chris there was always going to be a few bits we missed or chose not to mention. This was one of them; for sure! Thanks for the comment and for watching 🙏
Hey guys, brilliant channel, great content, I am looking at buying a MK2 ST 225 although after watching this vid I'm now having second thoughts, are they really that bad a car to own? Anyway should you be buying a standard, lightly modified or heavily tuned one, thanks 🤓👍.
Try to buy a car with a Block Mod and RS Clutch. Buying a tuned car isn’t a bad thing as the owner will have likely done many of the repairs and fixed common faults. Ideally find something with plenty of paperwork from one of the Tuners. Good luck and don’t be out off 🙌
Vauxhalls so much easier to work on of same age. Bolts dont seize up, suspension comes off easy and wheel bearings are bolt on. Oh, and they dont rust out after 10 years !
M17FST simply because it’s a suitable title considering he’s always hands on... Office Manager just wouldn’t look right for Darren. Thanks for the comments and for continuing to watch 💙
Remember; no vehicle is perfect. You can find fault with any vehicle, the Ford Brand is a good one overall and the ST is fairly cost effective. Hope that this helps and doesn’t totally put you off! TeamBD
@@BDPerformanceWrexham of course. And watching a video where all bad things summered up all together isn’t the best idea while looking for a mk2 to be honest. @@BDPerformanceWrexham I've always had a full ford service history in the past but this year I've decided to find a local independent dealer to carry on with the it so defo will be calling you for a chat 👍
The cars are getting old and some have high miles so you you will have problems but you can have these problems with a lot of other cars out there the likes of bearing, hoses, alternators ect
Should of called this video "Don't buy a mk2 focus rs/st. Kind of puts you off. Every one thinks wow a Rs mk2 when you seen then out on the road. I have a mk2 focus estate 1.6 hopefully it will be alright. Maybe better off getting a golf r which you can use all year round.
Frustrating more than anything - nobody likes fixing manufacturers issues... We would rather put a smile on peoples faces with tuning parts than managing repairs... It’s far more satisfying for us and the owner I think you’d agree 🙌 Thanks for taking the time to comment and watch the video. Hope you’ve taken it in the way it was intended 💙
BD Performance Definitely took it the right way.. 👍🏼 I thought it was an excellent video. Sadly as these cars get older the fundamental design issues and any weaknesses make themselves more apparent. Though that’s pretty much true for any car I’m guessing..and us, I’m 48 now and feel like I’m starting to fall apart! 😄 Nope definitely a good video, made me laugh....great format 🙌🏼💚

I have a 12 year old ST and the only fault I've had is the boost pipe leak last year. The rest of the car is original and never had any of the other faults. Plus its been lowered and remapped for 8 years. Great car.
Glad to hear of a pleasurable ownership! Thanks for taking the time to watch the video and for the comment 🙏
@@BDPerformanceWrexham To be fair my previous 2005 ST had about half of the faults by 3 years old ! My 2008 facelift has been massively more reliable. 😃
How the hell have you got away with not replacing a driveshaft? Lucky.
@@wakkowarner7391Maybe because I never do hard standing starts and I feed in the power to protect the clutch...
Hope you guys find a way to use the MK3 AWD on the MK2!!!
People run the ford kuga awd on the mk2 rs. Fits well
Had most of those on mine, now I now you love them so much may bring it to you to do the rest 😀
Welcome anytime 💙
As good as you lot are with these I have to disagree about the wheel bearings being a pain to do . I've done many and unless you get a stuck stretch bolt in the shock to hub or a stuck driveshaft or a rare top mount bolt spinning then you can just walk through these with ease , on the mk2 St or general mk2's any way as I've not had the chance on the rs mk2. If nothings stuck then apron 30 mins per side is quite comfortable to do even though quoted times are a little longer if I recall , if stuck then as you know ........how long is a piece of string lol
Do these problems still apply to mk2 zetec??
i felt that video.
Ace video fellas 😜👌🏼
Thank you so much 😊
Sounds like a lot of problems, so is it even worth buying an ST MK2 then? Is it really so unreliable compared to other sports cars?
Richard Houston McMillan I think it’s best to understand the problems surrounding each make and model. Let’s face it they all have issues BUT many have had no issues whatsoever with these cars.
My personal opinion is not that of the whole owners network and only based upon our experience. Unfortunately ours hasn’t been so great.
However I know of Mk3s that people have owned for years without issue!
If you at least understand that there are problems; you know what to look for! Please don’t let this put you off from looking - just know what to look for.
Hope that this helps,
TeamBD
@@BDPerformanceWrexham Thanks, I suppose preventative maintenance is also key :-)
Richard Houston McMillan couldn’t agree more sir 🙌
My every day Ford Focus 1.6 zetec s is extremely reliable, seems to be just Sts and rs which have reliability issues
Shows the love for the car I've been here
We all have indeed 🙌
Had the bumper rub on my MK2 RS, took off the paint and lead to rust had to pay 50%, dealer contributed 50%
It’s not a complete loss then.
Thank you for watching 💙
Was expecting manifold bolts as had most of the other ones u mentioned 😂
speedy chris there was always going to be a few bits we missed or chose not to mention.
Good luck and don’t be out off 🙌
@@BDPerformanceWrexham thanks for the quick reply, the hunt for one is on again 🤓👍.
@@ashhughes9682 very welcome - we do have a few for sale here if that helps 🙌

Vauxhalls so much easier to work on of same age. Bolts dont seize up, suspension comes off easy and wheel bearings are bolt on. Oh, and they dont rust out after 10 years !
Maybe so. Thanks for the comment - appreciate it 💙
As a mechanic I've never heard to many lies 😂😂😂😂
Why does it say Darren co owner and Ben workshop manager? Do they both not own bd?
M17FST simply because it’s a suitable title considering he’s always hands on... Office Manager just wouldn’t look right for Darren.
Thanks for the comments and for continuing to watch 💙
i wanted to buy one this year... now i'm overthinking it
Remember; no vehicle is perfect. You can find fault with any vehicle, the Ford Brand is a good one overall and the ST is fairly cost effective.
Hope that this helps and doesn’t totally put you off!

@@BDPerformanceWrexham of course.
And watching a video where all bad things summered up all together isn’t the best idea while looking for a mk2 to be honest. I‘m in Love with the mk2 st.
driven my mk1 1.8 for 3 years now and sold it a few days ago now i‘m looking for a stunning mk2 st but finding one in good condition isn‘t that easy.
@@audi0syst3m62 anything good is worth waiting for 🙌
Is the battery a twat to remove
No: not bad at all. One of the better jobs as it goes.
Good luck 🤞
@@BDPerformanceWrexham cheers
I've had a focus rs mk2 for about 7 years n live 15 mins from Wrexham and I never knew about this company 🤦♂️
We learn something new every day. Thanks for watching the content and hope to meet you soon; even ifs just for a brew 🙌
@@BDPerformanceWrexham I've always had a full ford service history in the past but this year I've decided to find a local independent dealer to carry on with the it so defo will be calling you for a chat 👍
Brilliant:-))))
sounds like most cars IMHO
The cars are getting old and some have high miles so you you will have problems but you can have these problems with a lot of other cars out there the likes of bearing, hoses, alternators ect
How to change out the clutch return spring on mk2. 😂
For Darren to do? 😂
Take the video as it was intended - a bit of fun!
Every make and model has its issues; we just highlighted almost all of them at once.
Brilliant..................
Thank you 😊
Sounds like you should just get a Mazda 3 MPS.
Good for business though.. 😉🙌🏼
Frustrating more than anything - nobody likes fixing manufacturers issues... We would rather put a smile on peoples faces with tuning parts than managing repairs... It’s far more satisfying for us and the owner I think you’d agree 🙌
Thanks for taking the time to comment and watch the video.
😄 Nope definitely a good video, made me laugh....great format 🙌🏼💚
waynester71 thank you so much buddy 🙌
point 1 Yeeeees i fuckt the c ring on the short drivshaft where can i buy a new one?
Give the office a call and ask for Ben 🙌
@@BDPerformanceWrexham i am from Germany but i will ask him anyways

Deb Ward nothing wrong with that 💙
It isn’t “Fix or repair daily” for no reason 😉
LB TV you might be right there Luke 😂
Big power , rear wheel drive or four wheel drive ! 700 plus horsepower through the front is bonkers ! Each to their own and all that not for me !!! I own 2 M3’s and an M6 !
mk 1 focus problem too look for all the mk 1 problems and the rest will suffer with mk 2 and mk 3
Not always true, but a fair point for sure! Thanks for taking the time to comment
Did my dash a couple of months ago. Pff.
My shite mismatch car is famous 😆
It’s not shite buddy and will certainly be awesome when it’s done. Thanks for helping out buddy 💙
I love these vids :) - Hopefully I can get the funds for a T5 engine and perhaps you'll be interested in an engine swap on a Volvo C30 :)
Oh and don't worry, I've replaced my control arms, front and rear swaybars, droplinks, new bilstein B8 shocks and eibach springs and much more :D it's also had a new front wheel hub...
Awesome 😎
The bonnet lock is a nightmare, ripped mine out and use a screwdriver now
Number one should be it’s a Ford lol 😂
I think a couple of people mentioned that in the video... We love Ford- just dislike/hate some of the issues lol
Thanks for the comment 🙌
BD Performance yeah I have a love and hate relationship with my car I want to sell it and get an S3 but I know I’ll miss the 5 pot engine so I’m not selling lol 😂

Hmm Reply system throwing a wobbly, however.
Good informative video, is the split liner not such a big problem as everybody thinks.
Toecutter12 we just didn’t include it in the video as we thought it was probably a video all of its own!
It’s 💯 one of the most costly repairs and the biggest risk we feel. However it’s far more widely publicised than some of the other issues we discussed.
Thanks for the comment and great question 🙌
I had mine done recently down at devil developments littlehampton as its about 20 minutes from me, does give peace of mind but still a concern.
Toecutter12 you’ll be fine then buddy! Great to hear 🙌
