Randy was one of my first hunks and has always been one of my favorite actors. He's still handsome and I ❤️ how much he loved the show and it's awesome that real firefighters see him as one of their own.
Randolph Mantooth is a great guy. I loved "Emergency" as a kid.

I have to say that the show ROCKED and the show that I remember was when John was bitten by the rattler and also when John and Roy saved the kids on the School Bus
I love Randolph Mantooth, I was glued to the TV when Emergency was on! When my brother and I got older he became an EMT then A few years later he became a fireman. It was in our blood, my dad, 2 of my uncle's were firemen too. You can say I was a fireman buff, as Johnny Gage would say. 👨🚒👨🚒👨🚒❤❤❤💯💗💗
one last message from me. Was very small when I watched Emergency on my visits to the US, and when METV came about took me a while to watch it then said to myself why used to see it. Thank you METV for letting us fans enjoy it again it is timeless. As for Randy Mantooth was my favorite of them all.

Both, in their own ways. Real firefighter, I'd probably prefer Kevin. More level-headed in show (however, I'd prefer EITHER over our present medics).
What a great time to be a teenage girl, Emergency! on Saturday nights. I was glued to the tube, and we had black and white tv. Now I have the series on color dvds and have enjoyed seeing the episodes all over again, and still love the gang from station 51!!! KMG365
***** I don't think it's carried by any of our stations, but as long as I have the dvds, I'm happy. To this day, a lot of what they did was well researched because a lot of those same things are used by Paramedics of today.
***** So are you thinking of going into the medical field after high school? There are definitely pros and cons to the medical field. I was in Ophthalmology for 18 years and with all of the issues with health insurance companies that dictate what you can or can't do to patients, it can be difficult at best, the red tape can be incredibly frustrating but helping people and seeing their gratitude is a pretty cool drug. It gives you an endorphin high because someone is alive or their life has been improved because of something you have done. Good luck with whatever path you choose in life. Everything has good points and bad points.
***** Well, I was 21, needed a job and I had applied for a job at one of the most famous Ophthalmology clinics in the U.S., and possibly around the globe. All in a small city in central Iowa. I started out as a messenger, the absolute lowest job at that time but I liked it, it really was fun. As I watched what the technicians did with patients, I knew on my 2nd day there that I wanted to become a certified ophthalmic technician. In less than 3 months on the job, I was chosen to learn how to do a specific test on eyes and that wasn't enough for me, in about 6 months I was trained to do something else, and I had made it known that I wanted to go to school for everything else. However, being so new, I wanted to wait until the following year to apply. There were only about 14 openings in the program through St.Paul/Ramsey Hospital in St.Paul Minnesota. I had applied, I had my place of employment behind me, a guaranteed job when I came back and I couldn't wait. But then I got the word that I had not been chosen for that year. I was devastated, but proving that I was able to learn, one thing at a time, I was trained to do that very job. After 10 years on the job, myself and 5 or 6 others went to Chicago to take the test to become a certified Ophthalmic Assistant. We all passed the test and were happy. I knew I wanted more, and one of the other girls also wanted more, so we studied together, learning by first using coworkers to learn how to do the more complicated tests, and after 11 years with that clinic my dream came true and I passed both the written and practical tests and it was now official. I thought I would retire from there but life doesn't always work out the way you want. Its a long story from there, and after 18 years, I resigned. I loved the job I was doing, it was full of rewards, when I would see patients who regained lost vision from cataracts, and then there were times you went off and cried because you had to tell someone that they would have to give up their drivers license because they could no longer see well enough to drive. That hurt so much. Taking a person's independence away sucks. I didn't know that there were bad things about the job but that hurt more than anything. Sorry this got so long.

***** Good luck! Study hard and do your best to understand the patients you see. Sometimes being brutally honest is not a good thing. In a clinical setting, you'll see the same people time and time again if they have some sort of eye disease or have had surgery. Some of them are truly fun to get to know, and then there are those that you just want to say "don't let the door hit you on the ass" on their way out. Most of our patients were elderly before all of the various refractive surgeries became a household word and when you got to know a little bit about these folks, they were sweet and we would find out either by phone or in the newspaper, that they had died and there were just times that you had a good cry and then went right back to work. Like I said, there's good and there's bad no matter what or where you are. I wish you good luck in your future, wherever it takes you! KMG365 lol
Thanks so much both my parents grew up watching the show as kids and they still loved i grew up as well randolph mantooth as really made a difference and others and the rest of 51 thank you cant wait to see you soon on road again mr mantooth glad your getting better each and every day.

Randolph stated that episode was far fetch because real firefighter wrote the idea for that scene. Fireman insert IV into his arm; Randy thought fireman was crazy. Fireman told him think like a junkie.
MrTech226 I saw the clip where he said that. A real medic would just do it! I was a firefighter/Paramedic for many years, then also became an RN in the ER. Loved Johnny Gage from the time I was in elementary school!
Yes, Reta Shaw was the clinic nurse that brought him cookies when he was in the hospital

When did Roy and Johnny decide to become Fire Captains? I just finished watching The Greatest Rescues of Emergency! I had never seen any episodes pertaining to the fact that they were getting promoted or leaving the paramedic program. Just a question is all. I have this same question in a couple of areas trying to get an answer.
that was the end of the series.the last episode was their promotion ceremony,then flashbacks.i think it was a 2 hour movie.when they made captain,they couldn't be paramedics anymore.
