I like the fact that you're covering an addiction story that doesn't necessarily involve trauma.
Addiction doesn't discriminate 🙏
The pressure of strict parents, a strict religion, and being classified as a high academic achiever puts you under a lot of pressure. I’m not surprised she turned to partying as a stress relief, even if she didn’t realize that was the reason.
@JulieMarieH I couldn’t agree more. That’s my story! Been clean since 7-7-2023. We Do Recover! The Lie is Dead!
That's what happened to me as well. Very strick father. He was the elementary school principal, busy in the church ( born again Christian from a Mennonite brethren) Very controlling man. I was the eldest sibling who was to "set an example". Very stressful for me. I ended up with anorexia nervosa and after that bulimia. Then a drinking problem as well as an addiction to opioids. I am 63 now, a mother of 3 wonderful men ( youngest son has mental health and addiction problems but is doing better) , and a Grandmother to 4 grandchildren ( 2 boys and 2 girls) I don't blame my father but I get it. I am a born again Christian now. But the control over me when I was younger really messed me up. I loved my father and of course have forgiven him because no one is perfect. 🌹
What a beautiful story of recovery. She is an amazing young woman. I 100% agree with Courtney that 28 day rehabs are joust not long enough.
I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation and could relate to much of Courtney's story. I also like the fact that you guys shared an example of addiction that didn't involve trauma. While trauma stories are obviously important, its nice to see some balance on your podcast. Great job you guys! Thank you for taking the time and effort to put this podcast together. And, Courtney thank you for sharing a little piece of your life with us, it was very inspiring.
Thanks for the feedback! We're always really grateful to hear our work landed with someone!
A co-Ed dorm is not a big deal. It’s like a regular apartment building. All genders together
Yeah, my college didn’t even have same-sex dorms
First time watching this channel. I enjoyed it.
Welcome aboard!
Her story is the same as me, very happy childhood, parents were together and pretty strict, i was an only child. And when i went to college, which is a bit different to the US, as we dont go away to college, that's university, i wanted to experiment! Id always wanted to, even when i was at high school, i wanted to try drugs! Even hard-core drugs like Heroin! Fast forward to age 22 and Id tried everything! Apart from LSD and Acid. Was a functioning addict for 7 years, went into Subotex programme and trying to stay clean now.
Thank you for sharing 🙏
Also wanted to add, that the film "Trainspotting" which doesn't glorify Heroin in any way, that was it, I was like, I need to try this! I was absolutely horrifically bullied at school for being "chubby" I was hit in the face with a leatherbound gym rope, causing my eyes to be black and broke my nose, that same boy threatened me with a knife, that was primary school, then at high school a boy put his tie round my neck while he sat behind me on the bus, ge put his knee into the seat and pulled as hard as he could. Luckily some other kids actually pulled him off me. I had lots of friends, it wasn't like I was this fat, loner girl! But the bullying did affect me. I self harmed for a long time, was a goth! The only goth in my country school! I just thought, if im going to be bullied, I may aswell just go all out and not give af!
U got this!!
Loved this. Really hit with my truth. The addiction part❤

What platform do you stream these on live?
We stopped streaming live a few months ago. It got too stressful! We may start again in the future.
So proud of you Courtney 👏 🥰
Say something to the parents of addicts
I'd say pray, for strength, guidance, & when in doubt, surrender to God's will..pray for a moments peace,
one moment at a time🙏💜🕯💧🌱🐾👣🌿🌎🕊
❤️❤️❤️❤️
That’s pathetic that her mother wouldn’t even let her hug her daughter goodbye, so what if she’s drunk? I understand not giving her custody, but a hug goodbye? What a BISH
But you DID get clean for yourself because your daughter IS you...she is literally part you.
But agree you can't get clean for a boyfriend, girlfriend, or anyone else.
Exactly..u MUST get clean for you! Only if u want it, if YOU don't want it, u won't recover
She’s great
55:13 amen thats right..find a meeting u resonate w
I wish we would cover nicotine addiction the same way we cover other addictions. Statistically it IS the drug with the greatest fatality rate.
I also went to Texas State in San Marcos!! I also drank all the time. 😂
I never really got the opportunity to do serious drugs... was never popular enough to be tempted enough. Saw it a Few times
But decided not to.
Band room geeks unite!
Haha
Bro needs to think before speaking. Kinda belittling to the women's intelligence.
Stop interrupting her with dull questions
It’s a daily life long struggle.
Like mental illness. And your finger is on the trigger
'Religion' is what 'saved' her...by the Grace of God..and that word is not accurate bc there are all kinds of religions..being a Christian means you have a personal relationship with Jesus (the Trinity) and He is your source for EVERYTHING. Also, her parents were not strict..she was an achiever who enjoyed all of her activities :•)
The comments from interviewers are so unnecessary
It's called an interview..
