    I finally purchased my very first metal detector machine after months of research and study, and guess what, I decided on the Minelab Manticore.
    I decided what the hell you only live once.
    It was delivered today, so I took a chance and asked Google to help me set it up, and it brought me to your channel.

    Thank you so very much for the step by step assembly instructions. I sure needed it.

      Nice video,very informative. I just recently purchased a used Mine Labs Excalibur 2. I paid $500.00 and invested 500.00 more to completely refurbish the unit sending it to Pa.I had the 8 inch coil exchanged for a larger coil. I think it is a 10 inch. The unit also had the waterproofing seals changed on the knobs. New head phones was added. I had the coil wire and I think wires attached to the battery changed. .My detecting is going to be mostly on land. If I ever do go in the water I don’t think it will be used more then 5 feet underwater. Being my Excalibur 2 is going to be used mostly on land and in shallow salt water beach is it worth it for me to keep this machine or trade it in for a more land based unit? I was thinking maybe a Equinox 800 or 900. Perhaps you can recommend a different detector all together. The unit I bought looked new when I got it with the exception of the wires being worn and torn. When I get the unit back it should be working like it was a new Excalibur 2. I thank you very much for any information you can give in regards to my new hobby.Signed Jimmy Dorsey a new fan of metal detecting.

    Just got mine yesterday and I did find a couple things my equinox 800 may have missed but I did a couple of tests and this thing couldn't pick up a quarter at 6" even with hole uncovered and it couldn't hit my half oz gold coin ring at 6" uncovered I tried every setting prospecting could hit them and so could beach deap but signals were broken. Sens was 28 ground balanced no stabilizer and I tried recovery from 1 to 7. My ground is placerville mineralized but this is crazy. My tesoro compadre hit both without a ground balance. With quarter and ring sitting on surface it hit them with good depth but once they went under the surface they were both discriminated out and gave low iron tone in all metal. And then to top it off I get nice repeating signals for nails. Maybe this is a park and beach only machine. Going out with my g2 and my vaquero to retest .

    Hi Mark, i am from Germany and bought this spring my first metal detector, the Nokta Simplex. I am satisfied so far, but i heard, that the manticore has an 2-d graphic, that helps you to decide if you dig or not. Normally i go 4times a week out to walk with my Simplex. Thanks for the video. Useful if i decide to buy 1.
    I wonder if the lower stem comes out of the middle? I might use the same spare stem i use for my Nox 800 if the Manticore handle has the dimple that goes in the hole of the stem. I am getting the Nox 900 first.
    35.40
    Strange it doesn't have the 4 kHz that the Nox does.
    37.00
    I use the E.Trac . I use the Pitch at 1 and Threshold at about 1 above silent. You want all other tones to be above the sound of the Threshold.
    40.00
    Why is there a top and lower bar for Iron?
    Thats not like the ET and CTX.
    42.50
    They also say that it is a match for the CTX for power. Which is the same as the E.Trac.
    Why is it that the battery takes so long to charge? Which i have heard is 7 not 10 hours.
    If only Minelab got into bed with RNB. My RNB for my ET takes 2 or so hours to charge for a 40 hour plus use time. And its 12.5 v instead of the stock 9.6v waste of space the Minelab pack has and takes 15 hours to charge for around 9 hours use if your lucky.
    I'm glad i'm not in a hurry to buy it. I want to see a lot more before spending around £1800 on it.

    • @BrassMedic
      @BrassMedic  Рік тому +1

      Not sure I can visualize your question about the lower stem. There are two shafts the middle shaft has the camlock. The yoke design on the lower shaft and coil make this seemingly incompatible with any other designs. It is strange about the lack of 4kHz so far, maybe in an update? Threshold levels are different on all machines but yes you need to hear the threshold but as quiet as possible so as to still be able to clearly hear it. It actually is sort of like the ET and and CTX with the 2D map having two bars. On the CTX the 12 line was an averaged line created with math in the processor and desirable targets were weighted towrds the 12 line. This is similar in that principle but now you can adjust the filtering around the mid line. remember that the up and down on the 2D graph is ferrous, left to right is conductivity. So these two bars are essentially just windows at the top and bottom of the ferrous scale. I have countless thousands of hours on the CTX and I can confidently tell you already that in the iron, this machine is much batter than the CTX for target seperation and processing speed. As far as depth, in my test garden, the two machines are equal in depth on my deep silver but the Manticore gives a better visual ID at depth. I still prefer my CTX when out in light to no iron just cruising around looking for targets, this is only because I know the sounds so good and I feel like I can hear in 3D with the CTX. But in iron like nails or around an old mining camp, soldiers camp, logging camp, homestead, etc, the Manticore is my first choice. No clue about the battery taking so long to charge but luckily we can run a shaft mounted external power supply just like we did on the Equinox. Check out my video on this at: ua-cam.com/video/9yGFR4Utomc/v-deo.html
      I understand your hesitation to buy and that's a healthy policy on a brand new machine!! Thanks for the view and questions.

    I got my new Manticore about 2 months ago but so far I have not found anything even junk over 6 inched deep. I was told to turn down the sensitivity ? I have been running it as high as I can without chatter and on mostly all factory settings in AT general. Can you give me any advice to get more out of this thing? I have so far had Much better detecting success with my Legend.

    • @BrassMedic
      @BrassMedic  7 місяців тому

      So to be clear have you done the update? The sensitivity is quite different between the original version and the June 2023 update. You can now after the update run your sensitivity a bit higher with no issues. 30 should be possible in good ground and minimal EMI. Whereas before update 22 would have been on the upper end. Have you done some air tests to see if maybe you have a bad coil or a defective machine? The Manticore is deep on coins. I don't know why you would be having issues unless there was a defective part.?? 🤔 Never compared depth on the Manticore VS the Legend but both are world class fantastic, deep machines that are very capable and well designed. Thanks for the view and comment!

    • @BrassMedic
      @BrassMedic  Рік тому +1

      So far as I can tell (only took it to one relic site so far) it is much faster and feels like an XP Deus in the iron. I really like the audio tones, a little different than what I'm used to with my CTX. If I had a Manticore 6" coil, I could get more of a fair, head-to-head comparison. In my test garden this detector is nailing an 11" silver quarter like the other machines hear the 6" quarter, great, stable ID and repeatable. I am working on some videos, stay tuned. But it's going to be tough to pry my CTX out of my hand (for any machine!). Thanks for the view and question/comment!

    Only thing I see that will get messed up so far is the velcro. I only hunt the beach and in the water so I know that velcro will get sand in it and fail,but if that's the only thing so far ghen.....then.

      I'll have to get this machine to a sandy beach asap to test that as well!! It is nice that the shafts all completely disassemble for easy cleaning to get sand and salt out of the shafts. Thanks for the view and comment!

    Are you reimbursed in any way by mine lab? You sound like a sales person for the minelab company. I’m not trying to be critical, I just want to know if you’re biased in any way toward mine Lamp.

    • @BrassMedic

      I own and use all of the best Minelab machines but I also own and use an XP Deus II and a Nokta Makro Legend and Simplex. If you watch my other reviews of Garrett machines you will see I am unbiased as far as being sponsored or "reimbursed". I had to buy this machine at full price so nobody gave me anything but they did at least make sure I got one of the first ones out the door. The reason I sound like a sales person is because this machine is absolutely awesome! I literally can't find anything to complain about at this point. The design of this machine is ground breaking to say the least. Not just the build quality or ergonomics but the performance is mind blowing, wait till you see my next videos on it! I'm just REALLY Excited about it!!! Just like I was when the Minelab CTX-3030 first came out! To answer your last question, Yes I am biased!! This is because when it it's time to go look for relics, I always take my CTX-3030 and it has found 90% of my best finds ever. When it's time to go look for gold, I take my GPX-6000, it's because in my opinion they are the best on the market. Every time I reach out to the company for anything they respond immediately, repairs are done very quick. That makes me biased. 🤠

    Minelab shouldn't pull this Kaka! They should just distribute the machines and not play favorites with certain individuals. Almost makes me want to cancel my order!

    • @BrassMedic
      @BrassMedic  Рік тому +2

      I understand your feelings on that. On the other hand if we all got them at the same time as the content creators there would be no videos to watch for many days to learn your machine or even get a good look at it to determine if you really want to buy it. I think it goes beyond sales and marketing and when the content creators get them early, this allows the user base to already have videos up that they can use to get started with settings and basic tutorials. Not everyone reads every word of the owners manual so that is where I feel it's my obligation to do that and make videos that just get the pertinent and priority info to the viewers. Again I understand your feelings but don't let it be animosity or jealousy that cancels your order when this machine is all-around, the best metal detector I have ever used. It will be well worth the short wait. They are shipping now to all dealers!

      Your right Chris, all these testers and youtube celebs who get a free machine to feed us the hype are all the same. Its about nothing more than build the hype to get more sales. From what I have seen so far its really not as these I got a free one celebs make it out to be, Sensitivity being the main issue, not seen anyone running it above 24 out of a range of 0/35 that tells the story of its so called 50% more power to the coil. Its more like 10% more power because the sensitivity can not be run at higher levels. So as far as it being deeper you can forget it as its not going to happen...

    "...Best looking metal detector..." You surely must be joking... Seriously, make everyone a favor and stop the fan boyish bs. Or you are a patriot proud of this "UK common wealth" product? For that it should not have been manufactured in Malaysia but in Australia, or Canada, or US, or Ireland ( like some Eurekas) .

    • @BrassMedic
      @BrassMedic  7 місяців тому

      YES!!!! ABSOLUTELY the "Best Looking" metal detector on the planet to date! A masterpiece of engineering! Just when you thought you knew everything . . . . your commenting on a video made by a UA-cam content creator who is also a testor for Minelab and had countless hours of testing and input into the software and features of this machine. For one thing, take a step back and realize this is the first metal detector ever made that the entire circuit is digital with a fully polyphonic music synthesizer audio engine and fully updateable, not just the settings but full back end coding. Don't like to waste my time responding to trolls, haters or emos. But I will give you one thing . . . "Beauty" is in the eye of the beholder, no doubt . . .but in my eyes this is the best looking metal detector EVER made with the best color LCD screen, best user interface and best build quality HANDS DOWN! Not to mention, superb future-proof engineering, the shelf-life of this machine will be epic due to it's software engineering and deep code updateability. As for it being manufactured in Malaysia and assembled in Australia. . . I see your point but when's the last time you have been to Malaysia? to see the tooling and manufacturing facilities? The rest of the world has sadly and unfortunately fallen WAY behind in the ability to manufacture quality electronics in comparison to Malaysia in these modern times. The Malaysia you might know or remember is long gone, today they are the undisputed world leaders in this field. I assume you already know this keeps the price down as well. So your comment about the "Fanboyish BS" comes from the direct difference of what you don't know and what I do know. I use and own all modern metal detectors (All 41 of them!) from every top manufacturer and let me repeat . . I USE them all. Far from any kind of a Fanboy for one manufacturer. Before you call somebody else a fanboy, take the time to watch a few of their popular videos and see if that's really their label. Lastly, YES I am a Patriot and have spent my entire adult life in public service of my country! And you? Regardless of your attack, thanks for watching the video and taking the time to comment.
