    Just got my manticore and came across your video.With out a doubt the best instructional video I have found. I am a little long in the tooth so appreciate the time you have taken to explain the settings. I am mainly chasing gold and now swing a 6000 but some of the places we go have small shards of metal that take up time and effort so was hoping to use the Manticore to detect these spots.Time will tell.Thanks once again.Barry from Australia.

    I shouldn’t of waited so long. I was on the waiting list for the Nox 800 when it first came out and I should’ve been on the waiting list for the manticore, but I gave it a year. Good tips there. If you have an air blower, the type you use to manually blow dust of your camera lenses then this is great to use a few seconds before you apply the protection screen.

    Take note! When trying to apply the screen protector, no matter how careful I was cleaning the screen beforehand, I kept getting large bubbles appear which would not squeeze out. So, I scrapped the first one, (I had 5 too).
    I got some paper tissue, put a tiny bit of washing up liquid on it then wet it. I also had a dry sheet too. I thoroughly cleaned the screen, then carefully dried it with the dry sheet, being careful not to rub too hard, then again wiped it with a microfibre. Then carefully applied the second screen protector. This time, hardly any bubbles at all, what there was were just tiny ones which I was able to gently push to the edge of the protector with the edge of my fingernail.
    SO LEARN BY MY MISTAKE. Top Priority WASH THE SCREEN FIRST!!! This was one thing I worried about, cocking the protector up..
    Thanks for the video mate, subbed!

      Yes this is good advice, I had lots of issues in the past with other machines and found it very difficult to get the screen perfectly clean. I could even see in my video particles of dust flying around in the air as I was cleaning the screen off. Dust is everywhere no matter how clean your living space is. Thank you for the view, comment and for your tip!

    Thanks for the video, new viewer here. I recently did a Video on the Manticore when it was brought and presented at Myers Metal Detecting here in Tampa Florida. It has been one of my most watched videos, and folks are excited about it, but almost every question was the same. Has Minelab fixed the water intrusion problem with the Equinoxes. I own both an 800 and a 600. The SECOND time my 800 got water in it (while detecting in the Gulf with the Control pod in less than 2 feet of water) was during the height of COVID and Minelab repair could give me no timetable for it's return due to the supply chain issues. So, I needed a machine and figuring I didn't need the little extra features of the 800, I got a great deal on a new 600 (and heard they had less water issues than the 800) 2nd time in the water with the 600, it leaked and when I disassembled it to return it, noticed a crack in a coil ear, which they to send in with the Control pod. So...no one is questioning Minelab's tech, just their build quality. It LOOKS like they've actually listened to their customers, with the improved shafts and cam locks, the new design for the coil head, putting a light in, a lit button area and a beefier control pod. IF they've got the water intrusion issue fixed with the Manticore I think they've got a big seller. And now that they're coming out with updated Equinoxes, I am considering a 900.
    Thanks!
    Rob / FlThunder

    • @BrassMedic
      @BrassMedic  Рік тому

      Yes, a huge thorn in Minelab's side between the leaking and coil ears. They improved the new control pod housing with an alloy design as opposed to a plastic design and their absolute priority in R&D was to make sure it didn't leak! They get a little defensive when this topic is brought up and understandably so because in the grand scheme of things, very few units were leaking but the press they got made it seems way worse. They also noticed that many of these leaks were coming from two things 1. People overtightened and did not use a pattern to tighten the screws on the bottom of the handle when installing an after market carbon fiber shaft. 2. Many of the incidents were from shallow water hunters swinging the coil underwater too fast or forcibly as to put some torsional loads on the handle that would compromise the seals. I would be willing to bet that the leaking issue has been fixed! The coil ears won't ever break again because they are gone as there is just a big yoke bracket on the coil now. So if the yoke breaks it's an easy fix as it's just on the short shaft (far less costly than a whole new coil). Thanks for the view and comment!!

    Lol....."bottom crack. giggle"🤣
    I'm 56 in a couple of months and giggled too.
    All joking aside ..Great video. Thank you for sharing.😌
    I do have another question (just asked another one about that huge gold chunk you found).
    I have been trying to figure out which metal detector and pointer, ear phone, diggers, etc., etc., etc. It's taking me longer than most people have been in the 'field' detecting as (to me) spending 1500+ (to now 2000+) on everything I need to enjoy this 'hobby' is a BIG $ decision but one I know I'll make (eventually 😏) I was just about to get the Equinox 800...like today.🙄....when I read about the 900. Then approximately 20 minutes later the Manticore. I 'reside' in Florida but about 9 months ago I drove to (and still am) in California for my work. Heading back to Fl in a few weeks is the rumor.🙄
    8 want to ask you because you have (and without a doubt always will😌) MUCH greater knowledge about ALL of this than * donor ever will.
    My questions are:
    1.Which one is better? Equinox 900 or Manticore?
    2 Does the 900 have ANYTHING worth 'noting' that the Manticore does not?
    3. As far as a pinpointer I was (also JUST about to get the Pro-find 35 until I read and watched videos about the Fisher F-pulse.
    One video showed LOTS of interference when the Pro-find was used with the 900. Another showed changing the channels will solve this. Which one do you suggest?
    Lots of questions and if you don't answer them all I do get it...lol
    But if you do...Thank you VERY much for your time and knowledge and sharing both.☺️
    VERY Sincerely,
    Michael

    Great videos. All of them for the Manticore have been super informative. I really liked your gas money game, but I'm curious if a custom program like gas money settings can be saved in a custom profile rather than adjusting one of the main search modes. I would rather keep my main search modes in the default state and then switch over to a custom profile like gas money profile when I need it... I see in the manual that it has four custom profile slots.... But I haven't seen a video where someone has actually saved a custom profile yet, rather than changing one of the original search modes. I know it's easy to reset each mode individually back to factory settings, But like I said it would be nice to have all my factory setting search modes intact and then go to a custom profile where gas money custom is saved. Could you explain to me if this is possible to do it the way I have explained? I've watched your other video of course. I believe the way you have done it in your gas money video may provide additional vertical notching which is nice instead of the whole area being opened up, But I'd still rather save it as a custom profile if possible, instead of altering one of the main search modes.
    Also... What recovery speed would you use on the beach for maximum depth?

    Thank you for the video, I am enjoying and learning. I didn't know what the threshold did as far as both iron and near targets. On the subject of recovery speed, if I am in a park and am not concerned about separation of targets shallow, but trying to hit deeper targets, will a slower recovery speed achieve hitting deeper targets without causing falsing from the shallow targets because I'm at a slower recovery speed? TIA.

    • @BrassMedic
      @BrassMedic  Рік тому +3

      Yes, you can think of the recovery speed on the Manticore as a slider that moves processor power from analyzing targets for separation on one end and focusing on depth on the other. Running a lower Recovery Speed of 2 or 3 will tell the processor to use all of it's computational power to hear depth and more importantly accurately ID at depth! If in the parks I would absolutely run my machine that way as well. Thank you for the view and comment!

      Oh my! Tough question! I really like the CTX and it has been very good to me over the years. It swings a bit heavy, especially on slopes and in moderate or light trashy areas it's incredible. But I am still comparing the two machines in heavy iron and at this point I am leaning towards the Manticore in heavy iron and absolutely at the beach or for gold. So if a beach hunt or gold prospecting is something you want to do, sell the CTX. Also they are hard at work on the new Minelab Ultimate which will replace the CTX later in 2023 so your CTX will drop in value quick when that happens. Thanks for the view and great question!

    Threshold is actually the earth signal. To complete a circuit.

    • @BrassMedic
      @BrassMedic  2 місяці тому

      In modern circuits there are different types of threshold which are true threshold and then there are false (not tied to the ground loop as in an analog circuit) thresholds that are designed to simply blank on any filtered (discriminated) targets. The analog circuits of yesteryear did all feature a true threshold that was inherent in the circuit ground loop. Zener and/or Schottky were used in the circuit loops on the older circuits. On the Manticore there is true threshold but only while in Goldfield mode. Thank you for your view and for your thought-provoking comment!

    • @BrassMedic
      @BrassMedic  2 місяці тому +1

      Firstly thank you for watching the video and I have to say that you won't be disappointed with the Minelab Manticore metal detector, it is a fantastic machine! If you do buy one make sure you get the Minelab M8 coil it really does make a huge difference on that machine. To answer your question about the headphones it's a proprietary technology and only Minelab headphones that come with the Manticore can connect to that Bluetooth system. So you would have to buy a set of headphones eventually anyway if you choose to go through the traditional Wireless Route. However there are workarounds to this where you can plug in a module in the analog headphone jack that sends its own standard Bluetooth signal to any headphones that you can buy on the market that use standard Bluetooth problem is you'll have a bunch of Hardware hanging off of your machine to do this. Thank you again for watching the video and for your comment / question!

    • @richierich1169
      @richierich1169 Місяць тому

      Ok, so I jumped in the deep end. Lol, I went ahead and bought the bundle. When I opened the box, to my surprise, there was the headset! I was so happy.
      Now, I watched where you showed all the settings. But, I need to understand the settings. Being that this is the first sophisticated metal detector I've ever looked at. The old one I had was a basic cheap one that you just turned on and turned two dials, and that's it. To me it was a trash detector. The Manticore, on the other hand, is one heck of a machine.
      So now, if such a video exists where the settings are all explained, where even a child can understand, that would be great. Do you have such a video? If not, can you direct me to a place where I can learn about all the settings? Thank you again!

    I'm near the beach ⛱️🏖️ and lost of other types of ground.

    I don't want to play around buying this or that just don't want to keep waisting money
    But I want to take this hobby serious .
    So with that said do you think I'm making the right choice getting one this model that you're talking about.

      Thank you so much for your kind words and thumbs up on the video! I appreciate your support. It's great to hear that you've been considering getting into this hobby for years and that you finally have the means to do so. The Minelab Manticore is a solid choice for both beginners and serious, experienced detectorists as well. It should serve you well in your search for gold, silver, and relics. One thing that can give you some peace of mind is this machine has ground breaking new technology that no other detector in the world has yet, such as a full polyphonic sound synthesizer for the tones. The entire circuit is now digital and fully updateable as the engineers at Minelab come up with new features, settings or fixes, they will upload updates for this machine. Out of all of the detectors on the market today, this machine has the best shelf-life right out of the box! . . . due to superb engineering and updateability. I wish you all the best and hope you have an amazing time exploring with your new metal detector no matter which model you choose! Thanks again for the view and comment/question!

    Serious question.... if you could get a new unopened Minelab Equinox 800 for $400 Cash or a Minelab Vanish 540with Pro Find 20 Pinpointer, 12" Coil,+ Pouch, Gloves, Magnifying glass, & Digging tool $335..... Assuming Equinox not a scam, which could be verified by driving 200 miles to pick up. Seller now wants to complete the deal using Amazon for payment/delivery. Seller has delivered photos of the Equinox in the box, unassembled. Your thoughts please.

      I am so uneasy about these kind of deals. $400 for a brand new Equinox just doesn't make any sense. Seems way too good to be true. Used they are going for $600. The Equinox is whole lot of machine and much better in every way over the Vanquish

      @@BrassMedic Thanks much. Placerville Hardware gal said same thing. Very skeptical myself. I will be very careful. She has used verbiage which is verbatim to terms identified as typical, when suggesting Amazon as a vehicle to purchase. Love your UA-cam videos.

      Usually anytime they want to use Amazon for payment, that should flash red lights. If you're driving there to pick it up, why wouldn't they want some nice cold hard cash?

    A $1600 metal detector should have a Gorilla Glass screen similar to a cell phone. Having to use a screen protector is laughable.

    I don't recommend this product. In fact, I don't think I will ever buy from minelab ever again. While it is reasonable for detecting metals, it comes with an absurdly dumb design flaw. The head will not stay in place, so it drags on the ground. It angers me how stupid this company can be. There is no fix, except using a stick or duct tape to hold it in place. It ruins the whole metal detector.

      The Minelab Manticore features a unique design of the way that the coil attaches to the detector. It is a superior design and I have never seen any such situation as you discuss in your warning to others to not buy a Minelab Manticore. Of course your Manticore is still under full warranty and if such a condition really did exist and it's not simply user error, it is completely covered under s rock solid warranty.
