For any flight (be it long or short) I take a long scarf with me. Airplanes are usually cold, so I can use it as a blanket, or fold it down and use as a pillow. Once in your destination it can be use as a wrap around on the beach/around the pool, or as additional head cover if you don't have a cap and it is cold or raining. There are lit of uses for it, some people use it as a towel in a pinch or a beach blanket. Possibilities are endless, the weight is minimal and is usually folds really small.

Agreed. I love using a lightweight cotton scarf. Once took a silk one on a 3 month backpacking trip and it wasn’t as easy to clean. If it’s rectangular, you can tie it up to become a makeshift bag for groceries

For long flights I love using a kindle. They’re thin and have a long battery life. If I get tired of reading I can pair Bluetooth headphones and listen to audiobooks. I initially thought eye masks on flights were overkill until I actually used one.

I know this sounds arcane, but I bring used paper backs to read and leave them at some of my destination points for sharing and sometimes can pick up more that way. My eyes can take only so much video.

Wow, that came just in time - less than 23 hours to my next flight ;-)
Thanks for the reminder - else I would have totally forgotten to store new video and sound files on my mobile ...
Apropos mobile phones: many airplanes on long haul flights come nowadays with USB charging ports in the armrest, even in economy class - just check it out (it is usually hidden at the bottom of the armrest) or ask a cabin attendant. And carry always your own charging cable with standard USB-A plug with you.

As a female I've always considered that a lot of street clothes are good for long-haul flights like yoga pants etcetera... but there've been a few flights over 12 hours that I've actually changed into PJs.
Quickly changing after take-off in the loo, then returning to my seat I am able to get absolutely comfortable. Nothing wrong with PJs as long as they "cover one's modesty"!!

How do you change in an airplane bathroom? There's no room without touching the toilet to your clothing. Is there a trick to doing this hygienically?

I'd add for the comfort section: no shame in wearing flip flops or slippers going on a flight. For TSA, super easy to take off and put back on and in the plane, easily let your feet breath! I perosnally like wearing socks and sandles, even tho it's an eye sore, but it's comfy and my feat don't have to touch the gross air plane carpet but I can stretch my toes and less layers for my feet to get sweaty in.

Another thing I can't live without are sleeping headphones. I also recommend using them for workouts and general use when in need of a headband.
These kind of headphones are fabric headphones, that means that it's structure is mostly made of fabric, and it has pockets for the main part of the headphone and the speakers. Another thing that I noticed is that, even if technically open backs, they are very low when off the head (obviously they get loud when very near).

Survived by having a good pair of earphones, it was a good snug fit that blocked out all noise, but also worked with the inflight screen for movies and music. there were 3 babies in my vicinity, and the loud engine. Long flight/travel pants: comfy cotton khakis (never poly or nylon) one size larger than you normally wear. Infinitely adjustable plastic travel belt that can go thru xray and metal detectors. Tight when standing loosen when sitting.
USB cable for charging devices on a plane. Some planes have 110v outlets too.
Always a quality set of wired ear buds. Doubles for your devices and airplanes entertainment system. Tight fit blocks out a lot of noise and you don't move around much on a flight to make the wires a problem. Over ear headphones are way to bulky to carry. Some say it's worth it?? I travel real light.
Can't sleep on flights so I look for a flight landing in late afternoon. Land, dinner, then a full night's sleep usually gets rid of jetlag.

The bottle must be empty when going through security. In the US and Canada there are always water fountains in airports so it is easy to fill the bottle after security.
However in Europe water fountains are very rare in airports. So the only place to fill your bottle is in the bathrooms. Which is not very appetizing.

We've flown across the US numerous times with our littles, and they're about to get to their 19th and 20th states this summer. I know at 3, a tablet wasn't always enough! One trick I learned was go to the dollar store, and buy crayons, puzzles, stickers, paper, and some kind of trinket. New things to hold their interest. Crayola had little coloring packs, or there are ones with crayons and little coloring pages. Those were good for car trips. I don't like having a lot of stuff, or buying throw away things, but it was a real game changer. They can have some great puzzles at the dollar store, and I'd put them in a baggie to save space. Another thing that was unwieldy, but my daughter loved, was a Melissa and Doug reusable sticker book. Worth every penny. Favorite snacks. Extra clothes/pullups/diapers. Wipes. I still always bring a muslin swaddle cloth, so versatile. We also had Diono seats that were really heavy, but came with straps so we would carry them like a backpack. We had parents take pictures of them at the airport a few times! But, last time we brought them, they almost did not fit in the seats on Southwest, and they are FAA approved. We had a WAYBE, but donated it, since we didn't get to use it during the pandemic. We used umbrella strollers, and this made it easier to fold upon getting on the plane, and getting around the airport; we have 2 children 22 months apart. This year we graduate from needing seats on the plane :) You've got this! Even on their fussy days, kids are great travelers.

@@PackHacker 5:18. The stainless steel container seems a nice way to hold the ear plugs. ua-cam.com/video/_VWyd06kiO0/v-deo.html

Ah! It's a keychain pill container - there are a ton on Amazon. Here's the listing for the one we purchase, but it looks like the design has since changed. amzn.to/3a6lOHY - You could do a search for "portable pill case keychain" and probably find a lot of choices!

Thx for the tips. But I despise people that put off there shoes on a plane. That should be a no go.
