Thanks Sandra. I did an entire video on that. But not with the black and white effects. And that makes all the difference. LOL. Have a great Sunday. Mark
I only have three twelve strings, so put my name down for the Vangoa this month! When I got my second acoustic twelve last year, I decided to experiment with my first. I now play it in alternate tunings. It works for slide guitar, ala Roy Rogers with his resonator 12. I play a few Joni Mitchhell songs in their alternate tunings. The acoustic twelve emulates her light fingered playing on an electric, with chorus and delay. Angela Lancieri, a classical guitarist from Naples, Italy, has youtube vids of her playing a Martin twelve in classical style. She does her own arrangements of Beatles and Doors songs. My fingers are short, so I do have difficulty playing further up the neck on a twelve, but I can, if I work at it. It seems to me that anything that can be done on a six string, can be done on a twelve! I am not going to put my six strings on a bonfire, but when I go out to play, one of the sixes now stays home, while a twelve takes its place!
Hey Steve. I thoroughly enjoyed your comment. One of the few good things (maybe the ONLY good thing) to happen in the 21st century in regards to music is that Joni is finally getting her due. Yeah, you get all the hangers on that can quote a couple of lines from My Old Man or Help Me or BYT but people are really digging into the richness and brilliance. Lyrically, nobody touches her in music. Dylan is a rhyming buffoon compared to Joni. Somebody wrote a hysterical article breaking down Dylan's lyrics and how ridiculous a lot of them are. You can pick any of 100 Joni songs and they're lyrically brilliant. Edith and the Kingpin, there's a deep cut. Brilliant. Chelsea Morning, Rainy Night House, EVERYTHING on Court and Spark. He was playing on a sidewalk for passing change when something strange happened, glory train passed through him, so he buried the coins he made in People's Park. I'm distracted now. I'm going to kick back and listen to For the Roses now and enjoy the next 45 min. Joni had some interesting tunings. Mark
Once I bought an acoustic 12-string, my 6-string sounded so dull to me that I just stopped playing it, even though the 12-string is harder to play (and I have short fingers too). It sounds crystal clear and richer and fuller in the same time, and so spacious.
I just bought my first nice acoustic guitar after 1 year playing a cheap guitar. Open chords but sounding so much better on this few chords. You made it sound like a beginner should own a 12 string for all the reasons to pick up a guitar in the first place.
Hey Copperhead. At the last second, and I mean last second, I cut out about 90 seconds of me talking about how I don't recommend a 12 string for an absolute beginner. I've taught 100s of students over the years and learning the guitar is challenging enough without having to navigate 12 strings instead of 6. That being said, if a 12 is all a person has access to, then go for it. I'm interested in what you're calling a cheap guitar. I'm 50, a cheap guitar when I was a kid was a real piece of crap. I just bought a strat for $200 that plays as well as my $1500 American Standard. The quality is so much better these days. Thanks for checking out the video. I appreciate your time and comment. Mark

Sure do like this channel, Mark. One of the few that I'm subscribed to where I feel I kinda "know" the performer. I may be a couple decades older than you, but I learn something every time I see and hear you play. Keep Rockin' Mark!
James. Many think they are a couple decades older and I appreciate the compliment. I'm older than most people think. But I was SOOO much older then, I'm younger than that now. :)
As for knowing me, I'd like to think so too. One of the things I wanted to avoid when I started getting some views and comments was the "thanks buddy" response to everybody. I'd rather not get a reply at all then get a canned one.
Hey Linda. Give A Little Bit? Wanted Dead or Alive? More than a Feeling? Ticket to Ride? A Hard Day's Night? Wish you were Here? Hotel California? Good group, eh. Thanks so much for your time. I really appreciate it. mark
Hey Mike. Suggestion (and take it for what it's worth, one guy's opinion). Break it out with a particular goal in mind. Even if it's as simple as to play the opening phrase to Wish You Were Here. If you just take it out of the case and strum a few random open chords (like I used to do), the novelty will wear off. Dig in a bit. Thanks so much for watching the video. I'm grateful for your time. Mark
I bought one after watching one of your videos several months ago. I'm learning and money is tight but I got a Vangoa because it's a beautiful guitar, twelve-string and it's really affordable.
Hey Paul. I'm glad it's working out for you. I don't have a paid endorsement deal with them but I'm never worried when people buy one because of their CS. Three times out of about 40, there were issues. They immediately replaced the guitar in two instances and in the third they were able to talk the owner through a simple fix. Thanks so much for checking out the video. I truly appreciate it. Mark

Great list Mark! I have always felt that the 12 string will provide a "Fuller" and more defined sound, lending itself to be a favorite sound in any recording.
I agree 100% even though I just started learning to play guitar again I have always loved the sound all those strings makes, and I’m an old heavy metal fan .. I got a 12 string acoustic coming 😉
I wish I had read this description BEFORE I just binge watched half a dozen of your 12 string videos. Oh well, it was time well spent, thank you. Please add me to the list for the drawing.
I love the sound of a 12-string guitar. There are so many great songs associated with 12-strings. I had one many years ago that I loved, but I ended up selling.
Thank you for this. I have always loved the 12 string sound but was always afraid to get one due to some of the myths you mentioned in this video and previous. Mainly the restring due to tension on the neck and possible warping/cracking, tuning is impossible, and that it was a specialty(in the fact only used for specific things) instrument. Unfortunately due to reading/hearing these things I never thought to look past them. Thank you for proving these wrong and shedding a light onto one of the more amazing sounding instruments.
Great job Mark! When you mentioned 15 no. 1 hits were played with a 12 string, was wondering if you already made a video on that. Anyhow, love your videos especially when it involves the 12 string😀.
@@8MinuteAxe Hi Mark, I stepped away for awhile. I can only name a few, Hotel California - Eagles, Mr. Tambourine Man - Byrds, A Horse with No Name -America, Hard Days Night - Beatles, Ticket to Ride - Beatles, Eight Days a Week - Beatles. The first Acoustic I bought myself was a Seagull 12 String, found it in the used section for a steal. Had it forever and I do believe it made me a better player, unfortunately it was crushed beyond repair during our move to the Pacific Northwest seven years ago. Nice to see you broke out the Double neck at the end.
Great video again Mark. I love the sound of a 12 string and own a Yamaha 12 and a Rickenbacker 12. All those metalheads banging on about 7 and 8 string guitars… ? Nah, they need to play a 12 string! 😀
Of course one should buy a 12-String - unless you have one given to you which was my pleasant experience when given a Rik as a retirement gift. I also just purchased an acoustic 12, well, sort of. I traded in a hybrid six string. It wasn't a bad guitar but it never quite did it for me unlike the new 12. I had reached the point where I just couldn't be bothered picking up the A6. The new 12 and the Rik, however, never fail to engage my imagination.
Awesome as always Mark. Great video. I always wondered why Jimmy Page didn't record the Rain Song using a 12-string. Definately makes the song sound even more incredible.
Loved your video, especially the portion where you compared the 6 and the 12! I'm a bitsa player--bits of this and bits of that--and those bits would prob sound sooo much better on a 12. I would love to win a Vangoa and try out that assumption. Ha! Great channel, so glad I found you!
Yes we should all have a 12 string i do wish i had a Ric.or a Dan have an Ovation and believe or not a Vangoa natural i really like great tone plugged or unplugged neck is perfect. Fits my hand 😆 double neck SG would be cool but damn the price is not doable these days😞
One of the main reasons I wanted to learn playing guitar is because of the 12 string. There are several reasons, 1) is the SOUND! I LOVE the sound of a well played 12 string, heck, even a poorly played 12 string sounds good. 2) the wider fretboard is easier for my gimpy fret fingers to make chord shapes. (They were crushed in a printing press, back in 85), and 3) they just plain look cool lol. Main reason is the sound tho. I love the Byrd's, and the distinctive sound, their music has, due to the instrument.
Good video, I find a Fender clip on tuner set for chromatic(”C” on the selector screen) also works great. For some reason my Taylor 12 string seems to confuse my LR Baggs acoustic preamp with built in tuner.
Hey Mark, Of course as a 12 String Guitar player myself 80 percent of the time .Yes so many songs sound better with a 12 string. Even if the recording didn't have one on it. I love the fact you used the baseball anology about how it improves your 6 string playing. Yes they are not that difficult to tune or keep in tune thats a myth for sure
Wow Mark! Great video. I like how you did the song comparison between the 6 and 12 strings. With 10 12-strings, which is your favorite acoustic and which is your favorite electric? I've still got my Ibanez 12-S and playing it all the time. Thanks for the videos.
Steve Kamisky only has 3 twelve strings?!? You have 10, I need my first! I'm really looking forward to owning a twelve string and adding it to my collection.
To me,.. of course you need to have a 12 string guitar, "if" you can afford one! Ha! Always wanted one and now,.. simply can't afford. Old disabled single parent of twin teenage girls, Ha! 🤣😂🤣 If you're able,.. get one! You won't be sorry. Love the riffs you chose to play Mark! Wide variety! Doesn't hurt that you truly know how to play either.😄
If I had a dime for everyone who hasn't played one, but disses them, I'd have a lot of dimes. I wouldn't go without a 12-string. It's a different animal than a six-string, but I LOVE that sound. Nothing like it.
I hope you see and consider this comment. 1. Your a fantastic player. 2. I want a show about the 12 string. I would love for you to make a talk show about everything 12 string. Simular to the acustic tuesday show with Tony pelicastro. You could have special guests interviews, and make your own merchandise! Well I love what you have thus far and look forward to supporting you in what ever you do.

Sure do like this channel, Mark. One of the few that I'm subscribed to where I feel I kinda "know" the performer. I may be a couple decades older than you, but I learn something every time I see and hear you play. Keep Rockin' Mark!
Me too
James. Many think they are a couple decades older and I appreciate the compliment. I'm older than most people think. But I was SOOO much older then, I'm younger than that now. :)
So, now we play the age guessing game. I'm guessing James is 66, Malcom is 62, I am 67, and Mark is 45 (low 39.9 high 50)
As for knowing me, I'd like to think so too. One of the things I wanted to avoid when I started getting some views and comments was the "thanks buddy" response to everybody. I'd rather not get a reply at all then get a canned one.
wow dude I never thought about playing a 12 string they do give the songs a bigger feel and giving one away is awesome thanks for the video!!!
Great video great axes!
I love the 12-string sound! I think some of my favorite songs have an intro played on a 12-string.
Hey Linda. Give A Little Bit? Wanted Dead or Alive? More than a Feeling? Ticket to Ride? A Hard Day's Night? Wish you were Here? Hotel California? Good group, eh. Thanks so much for your time. I really appreciate it. mark
Great collection of classic guitar riffs!
Another excellent video! Great playing too.
Nice presentation. Love my 12-string and agree with all the points you mentioned. Thanks for these!
I love mt Guild. I want one of those Reverend 12 strings you were playing
The Beatles weren't The Beatles without Georges Ric 360/12c63, Or Roger McGuinn and His Ric 370? Was it a 370?🤔
Great video, Mark! Your logic is inescapable and it was a great listen, too. As always.
A 12-String certainly opens a lot of possibilities for exploring and experimenting with various playing styles and different kinds of music
Great video, Mark! I've got a twelve string I rarely play, you've given me a bunch of reasons to get it out and have another go at it.
Mark
Duude thanks for putting this together. Been considering getting a 12 string for ages, nice to know its worth it!
Que hermoso todos los riffs... Quiero aprender a tocar la guitarra de 12 cuerdas!
Realmente lo aprecio Orlando. I've talked about the importance of Mexican music as it pertains to the 12-string including some of the popular corridos. I was working on a longer documentary but the guy that was helping me disappeared. Thanks so much for your time and kindness. Mark
Great video and playing as always. Can't believe how good that Rain Song demo sounded. Wow. Thanks Mark!
Hey brother. I really appreciate you checking it out. Here is the entire performance of The Rain Song if you're interested THE RAIN SONG ON 12-STRING GUITAR ua-cam.com/video/BtCokAZPC0s/v-deo.html. Take care and be well. Mark
You’re so right that it is so much easier to play my 6-string after playing my 12-string for awhile. And now I’d rather play my 12-string even though it’s a cheaper guitar. Thanks for for the inspiration to keep playing and learning about the 12-string! I hope I win a Vangoa one of these days!
Off to watch another one of your videos!…
Can you also do a video convincing my wife I should get a 12 string?
😃
My favorite thing in your videos is how EMOTIONAL you are when you play on your guitars....It's very rare Mark! Thanks a lot...🙂😀
Hey Yorgos. I really appreciate that. I do my best. I figure, if you're going to do something, do it right. Just like this comment, or the last ten I've written. All different. All long, and all in different directions based on what I'm responding to. I have noticed that the punctuation is suffering as I move through the day. I appreciate your time and comment. Have a great week and take care. Mark
Great video, Mark. I agree that every guitar player should have one. It's another creative tool in your toolbox. Instantly it will spark ideas in your songwriting. Sorry that I missed your premiere. Excellent job!
Hey Randy. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Never apologize for missing something. You've been so generous with your time and I'm truly appreciative. Mark
Another great video about the 12-string Mark! Keep it up ! You inspire me to keep at it!
I have an older 12 string Fender acoustic. Would love to get an electric one, great video and thanks for the encouragement.
Hey man. Thank you for your time. I really appreciate the kind words. Once you really start looking into it, there are so many songs that use the electric 12. I love playing mine. I actually have it in my hands now. :) Have a great weekend. Mark
Recently pre ordered the Eastwood Classic 12 after I saw your video. This video was great to watch.
Great video. I think you convinced me.
Hey Brady. I just want you to know that I don't get paid to endorse anybody. Right or wrong, my opinions are influenced only by my own experience, aptitude, and ineptitude. :). Mark
Thanks for the inspiration!
Hey Mark. Thank you for taking the time to watch the video and support the channel. Shoot me an email if you have any questions and dont worry, I dont sell anything. Take care. Mark
Great tips and insight, thank you!
Great video...thank you!!! 😊😊😊
Nice work Axe...
Looks like those lessons from Simon are paying off. Haaa
That's good. Simon and I are a good team. Our styles couldn't be more different. Everything he's great at (tone, technique, vibrato, phrasing, and timing) are weak links in my playing. I'm pretty sure I can out pick and out shred him. LOL. Please take care and stay safe. Mark
Great Video, i just bought a 12 string very spontaneously recently, and i keep coming back to it more than i thought!
Almost cried when u played Fade to Black
Great stuff bro
12 syrings sound great. If playing along with other acoustics tune down 1 full step and play the same cords with different voicings. Love your channel
Hey Mark. In the 30 years and 1000 gigs I've done, I don't think I've ever tried it quite like that. What a phenomenal suggestion. Thanks for that and thanks for checking out the video. I appreciate your time and comment. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday and take care. mark
Since you started doing these on Sunday not Saturday I've been missing the live shot I'm at work most of the day. But I always manage to catch the replay lol.
I love 12 strings! I now have a nice Takamine acoustic. I think i wil build a Warmoth 12 string guitar with parts from my leftover Peavey T-60. A cool project :D
Hey UP. I wish I had the tools to really dig into a project. Soldering and assembly is about as far into it as I get. Thanks so much for watching the video. Have a great week. Mark
Great video, Mark! :)
Great list Mark! I have always felt that the 12 string will provide a "Fuller" and more defined sound, lending itself to be a favorite sound in any recording.
This is great. I am doing a Rickenbacker show on the local NPR station and I'll use some of your food for thought in 12s when we do it!!
Another great video. And we guitar players need at least 2 12 string guitars. One Acoustic, the other electric!
Exactly my thinking, except I’m not gonna go play live in front of people.
I was in a band once I likeded it!
Great work Mark, that was an awesome video man 😀🤘🎵🔥🔥🔥🔥
I love the sound of a 12-string guitar.
Hey Bob. That was the video I was thinking of doing this week until the list got out of hand. How many can you name. 5 minutes. Go!
Mr. T Man. , Turn Turn Turn, A Hard Day's Night, Day Tripper, Walk Right in
@@8MinuteAxe Hi Mark, I stepped away for awhile. I can only name a few, Hotel California - Eagles, Mr. Tambourine Man - Byrds, A Horse with No Name -America, Hard Days Night - Beatles, Ticket to Ride - Beatles, Eight Days a Week - Beatles. This is a tricky one, there are so many great 12 string songs that one might think were No. 1 but didn’t reach the top of the US Billboard charts. Looking forward to what you come up with. I learn so much from all your videos. Thanks for taking the time to produce and share them.

Nice video
I only have zero twelve strings, so put my name down for the Vangoa this month! Nice video, I like how the 6 string demos were b/w then back to color on 12, clever :)
i so have to get a 12 string. like playing two guitars in one.
You need to see if RIck Nielson is willing to sell you that 5 neck guitar..
Hey Ross. Always great to read your comments. I love my reverend. It's the perfect guitar.
Awesome as always Mark. Great video. I always wondered why Jimmy Page didn't record the Rain Song using a 12-string. Definately makes the song sound even more incredible.
all the amazon links say product unavailable! (T_T) may be its region restricted
Loved your video, especially the portion where you compared the 6 and the 12! I'm a bitsa player--bits of this and bits of that--and those bits would prob sound sooo much better on a 12. I would love to win a Vangoa and try out that assumption. Ha!
Great channel, so glad I found you!
I’ve never played a 12 string before but I’m very interested now
Yes we should all have a 12 string i do wish i had a Ric.or a Dan have an Ovation and believe or not a Vangoa natural i really like great tone plugged or unplugged neck is perfect. Fits my hand 😆 double neck SG would be cool but damn the price is not doable these days😞
You’ve convinced me to get a 12 string guita!! #2
Guitar**
One of the main reasons I wanted to learn playing guitar is because of the 12 string. There are several reasons, 1) is the SOUND! I LOVE the sound of a well played 12 string, heck, even a poorly played 12 string sounds good. 2) the wider fretboard is easier for my gimpy fret fingers to make chord shapes. (They were crushed in a printing press, back in 85), and 3) they just plain look cool lol. Main reason is the sound tho. I love the Byrd's, and the distinctive sound, their music has, due to the instrument.
I just feel a 12 string is needed for a unique playing experience you can’t get anywhere else.
The 12 is under rated but the beast of the guitar family. And no one messes with the beast!
Steve Kamisky only has 3 twelve strings?!? You have 10, I need my first! I'm really looking forward to owning a twelve string and adding it to my collection.
I want a 12 string guitar
Shoot me a quick email at markaranalli@gmail.com and I'll make sure you're entered in this month's giveaway. Mark
To me,.. of course you need to have a 12 string guitar, "if" you can afford one! Ha! Always wanted one and now,.. simply can't afford. Old disabled single parent of twin teenage girls, Ha! 🤣😂🤣
If you're able,..
Well I love what you have thus far and look forward to supporting you in what ever you do.
big difference in the 6 and 12 that's what i need to play Closer to the Heart right.
Hey YC. I tripped over than one but I was pressed for time. 😯
A 12-string sounds like a carnival!
