That double securing system is made so the sheath is useable in a drop situation (dropping out of a plane in a parachute), look it up and you'll see that this is actually quite common ^^
I modded one of these garbage sheaths from TOPS before. Put a hole in each strap with a hot nail. Paracord between hole with what ever fancy knot you like, ie. celtic button knot. Instant open with one strap pull and has held up for years with no issue ever and cost about 10 cents and 5 min. done.
so, you can't get gorill aglue on your poor hands, but your wife's cutting board is fair game! lol! Little dark but got some ideas....thanks for sharing....
Two things. 1) Why can't you just cut the top strap off? 2) What happened to Dave and Tam? The intro is gone. You're taping indoors. You may be the best bushcrafter on the planet, but I have never seen you before. Where did you come from?
Garth is a good friend of mine who runs our weekly radio show. He is a vital part of the BOF family.. and we appreciate his help. Let him know you appreciate him as well!
Very cool Garth, nice video, work and tutorial. Many thanks, ...also to David for sharing. All the best, Sepp

great mod garth, hate those damn double straps. and the Velcro, what were they thinking? nice way to tie it in, extra ferro rod sure doesn't hurt.
Nice mod! Party on, Garth!
Good job, nice mod ;)-

i believe it is milspec to have more than one retaining straps. cool fix to what you need.

Good idea dude, love the show man and if you havent seen the fero rod all in one fire kit you and dave inspired check it out on my channel. good stuff
easier fix...cut off a strap and use a ranger band for the ferro rod...10 sec fix and looks a hell of alot better

Garth next time put some foil down to save your cutting board
Nice option for something that was not a satisfactory set up.
