This is where it's at. Been using this method for about 6 months and recording those sessions after Dennis chambers giving the advice of just sitting and playing time. ...You learn what you can really do through this... You get a groove working and you realise that all those little embelishments you can't resist don't create music and, unless you're really feeling every last stroke of them, they invariably compromise the groove. i.e. I can play polyrhythms, polymetrics, all kinds of rudiments up to pretty damn fast speeds, orchestrate them all... but, right now, the only thing I can put in a pocket so it drives like a train is a plain 4/4 beat, plain shuffle, plain jazz pattern... But that gets me more recognition with other musicians than any number of flashy chops - play Billy Jean so it drives like Billy Jean and you're the man.
MAN soon as he said Michael Jackson and Bucharest concert i knew he was goin to Billie Jean lol Time, Pocket, and Groove is everything. All the other stuff is just icing on the cake. Icing cant save a terrible cake tho...least not that I know of haha. and in my opinion too much icing cant ruin a perfectly good cake.. Time Pocket Groove
Thanks for sharing the clip! However I wish you could've enhance the audio better. It sound to muffled and too much bass. Can you reupload with a clearer sound. Its hard to understand him.
Black "Church" drummers over rate this dude to the point its ridiculous. Guess because its a closed mined environment. I, Vinnie Colaiuta, Chris Coleman, Dave Weckl, Virgil Donati, Thomas Lang would eat these church drummers for breakfast.
The thing with drummers is to get and keep the gig/gigs.Everything else is irrelevant. Look at Charlie Watts for the Rolling Stones,a simple, basic pocket drummer with the longest lasting, best paying, most promoted gig ever lol....
@@kurtpatterson1296 I agree. I'm not talking gigs. However if you would like, let's look at gig masters like Vinnie Colaiuta who is just killer all the way around, 50 times more busy, and would eat this dude for breakfast.
This is the one drum video most UA-cam drummers and fans should be looking for.😂
