Thanks for sharing this great insight! Matilda has one of the best & effective reverse pendulum serves out there.. I was struggling to read the back v side spin serves even though you guys told me!
@@pingpongedTV It’s amazing how the slightest change in the point of contact (6-7 / 8-9) can result in a complete opposite spin and therefore return (don’t you love table tennis physics?). What makes your serve so deadly Mati is the ball has almost no projectile differences. For my serves, I’m using 6-7 (back spin) and around 9-10 (kick serve). I think it makes it too easy to read, so thank you for sharing this as I’m going to try it out and become more deceptive!
@@LewT1 Good plan! when I (Galia) play against Mati one of the most unconfortable things is that i don't know the spin of the serve until I actually see the ball bouncing on my side and I feel it in my racket. not chance to plan in advance and prepare for the point :/
Thank you for the video. Please interview each other as we would like to know more about you. I heard Matilda currently resides in NYC. What about Galia? Looking forward to more videos. Thank you again
Very good video, thanks!!! I developed the "reverse ghost" service, based in the ghost, hook and reverse pendulum services, because the reverse pendulum isn't for me...
You can, start with focusing on the wrist and develop the reverse pendulum, it is one of the most effective server over all, people struggle to return it short . And sometimes to even return it.
Without a doubt Mati's ball contact is very deceptive (this is super important I find). I love to serve (one of my best weapons) and I love this serve because not only because of the spin but also the speed and direction which are hard to predict if the server uses the same body motion throughout the entire serve (just like Mati's) ! Top players are amazing about reading body language, this is why some very skilled players "die" with them.... they are not hiding the "give away" movements ! The other thing is, I am not sure if Mati used to mix in other spins with that serve. I mix in a "flat" fast serve into the opponent's belly using the same exact movement, if executed to perfection it's 99% of time a direct point. Sorry for the long talk, but like you I love my sport and it's trickery ! Thanks for the video (slow motion is great BTW).
Thank you for your insights. Yes, you are right - disguising the serve (and other strokes) is crucial the higher level you reach. I used to do a flat fast version to my opponents forehand corner. Should do a follow up video on that. You are right, it’s a super effective serve. Thanks for reminding me of that one 😃
@@pingpongedTV great, happy that you agree. I actually find that the fast flat balls are harder to produce since they are super risky, especially if you decide to bring it up at a pivotal point of the match. It's hard to relax the hand so you ignite the "spin - special effects" but kill the ball in the top/middle of the racket on contact with the perfect speed so it does not fly off at the end of the table. The ball has a special bounce and it's not easy to counter attack. So yes please have a follow up video, super cool !
Thanks fot your comment. Most of the time, if the serve is spinny enough and I serve diagonal - the opponent will receive it to my middle. I usually get ready to use my forehand after the serve. If I make the serve parallell, they are likely to play it to my forehand. But obviously this also depends of the opponent - how skilled they are and how strategic their mind is.
@@PaulSilvaPage Absolutely! I well performed backhand serve can be just as effective. Especially in times or among players where the backhand serve is less used. People tend to receive well against serves that everyone uses and worse against serves that are rarely used.
Hello Matilda / Galia. Question. At the very highest level, when receiving serve, what percentage of the time are you sure whether the server has used underspin or topsin, despite their (legal) attempts to conceal the contact. How often can you tell what spin was used?
Hi! Thanks for a good question. The best servers makes it hard to ever be sure of the spin! Against those players I try to look on the bounce rather than their movement. After some time I get better at understanding the spin but sometimes it takes long. I would say I can almost always see if it is topspin or underspin but the question is how much sidespin there is. That makes a big difference. Hope that helps. One thing to try when you have problems is to hit the ball low and in the center of your own racket to make the spin react less/ Mati

Where can I get one of those table baskets?

Thanks for this trick. I'll try to do it. I am left handed too btw. Maybe I'll be easier for me.
Lefty is always good, yes :) uncomfortable for the opponent
