    I love that last photo you showed with her squatted down in front of the car and you can see the American flag waving in the back and the old Chevy. That looked amazing.

    Great shots, love all photos! Model also did really good work. But the shame you missed fantastic moment when wind blows her dress (02:59). If someday I will do photoshoot with model in pin-up dress, I'll take a fan)))

    I'll start with the posi-nega-tive. The is a great video overview but its a rehash from a past video with no details about either product. Bottomline. If you just bought the FJ-X2M... return it, or upgrade to the X3. NOW. A long comparison with reading.
    (1) The clickable wheel on the X3 is far more user-friendly than the X2 scrolling wheel with click. The x2 is so super sensitive with the click. While scrolling, you easily end up clicking and next thing you know you have adjusted the light power for the wrong group.
    (2) The screen is slightly larger with the width and the diagonal dimension. This makes room for ABCD groups to be viewed versus only ABC on the X2. Additionally, the X3 has 4 quick access buttons on the left for the groups.
    (3) HUGE advantage to me... on the X3 controller, you have fast access to the sound on/off and the modeling light on/off. Compared to the X2, you have at 2-to-3 click sequence to access and operate those features using the MENU button.
    (4) Unit settings. A single button hold for 1-second to access features like bluetooth, X-sync, screen brightness, etc. (Quick note... the screen brightness seems better... especially in bright sun conditions.) Then another single 1-second click and hold to return to normal use. In comparison, the X2 requires you hold down multiple control buttons to access the functional settings.
    (5) Channel lock. Same thing. The X3 has a single button to click, hold for 1-second and your channels are locked. Again, the X2 requires two fingers.
    (6) Size. The X3 is flat on the backside so it's thinner - it feels great in your hand. I also noticed the plastic/translucent emitter area on the top edge versus the black solid plastic - possible better range for IR/radio transmission?
    (7) Lastly. Removable battery in the X3. While this is great. I rarely ran out of power with the X2. Both models are 1500mAH rechargeable batteries. However, the replaceable battery in remote locations is a huge bonus.
    I adopted the Orlit Brand several years ago and liked the product. And the X-2m (as well as the FJ400 light) was an acquired model design from the manufacturer with the rebranded Westcott name. The same also holds true for the FJ-80 speed light (horrible in many ways but that's another story). NOW. This generation of Westcott products - FJ-X3(m), FJ200, and the FJ80 markII - are fantastic additions with monstrous improvements. The FJ-X3 is just a huge improvement all the way around!!! The battery life for the FJ200 can shoot all day on one charge (at about 50-60% power) and so compact and powerful enough to get it done. WESTCOTT.... FJ80 mark II? Thank you. God bless you. My only suggestion is that you repent of your sins and offer a trade-in rebate to those of us who bought into the FJ80 version one product. Especially us Canon users who dealt with the shaky hot-shoe mount. And having to purchase SO MANY 1000mAH piss-poor batteries just to make it through a 2-to-3-hour shoot. The new FJ80 markII is 100% on the spot improvement. I am antsy to see what improvements come to the FJ400 lineup? Or perhaps, you improved the Orlit Rovelight 600 and the FJ600 is coming? If the quality meets that of these products. I am on board.

    How do the strobes fire if you change your shutter speed from the sync speed of the camera. Eg. If my sync speed is 1/250 and I change my SP to 1/1250 will the strobes still fire?

    In the video you say you are only using one channel and you put the rest in slp mode. Is that necessary or recommended? New to this and only use one channel with 3 lights on it.

    Is there a reason you put the light to camera left vs camera right? My first inclination would have been to put it on the right since that was where the open sky was. Just curious. Beautiful photos!

    • @shanetography
      @shanetography Рік тому +3

      I'm not Eli, obviously haha but I'll tell you my reasoning. I look at the model's face from the camera's perspective, and whichever side is brighter, I put the light on that side. The reason is that if you light the shadow side with the strobe, the light will look flat, because both sides of the face will be lit. But you have more control if you light the side of their face that's already got ambient light on it. You can decide how deep you want that shadow on the other side, you can decide how much shadow will be showing by the positioning of the strobe, etc. That's just me though. I hope that helps!

    • @EliInfante

      There are many variables Heather such as light distance to subject, modifier choice, and the amount of diffusion used. For my style, I typically don't use full power much.
