I never considered having pet doves until my family had to take one in for 3 days. In my own as well as a lot of other people’s experiences, there’s no long term ill effects. All of my little guys are healthy and content.
Aw! I rescued a little mourning dove once. She couldn't fly even though she had no issues with her wings. We had her for a few years she was a sweetheart but being a wild dive she had a hard time adjusting to the indoors.
They have a ton of personality and yep total sweethearts. A few years is pretty good considering how short mourning doves lifespans are in the wild. I think it's great that you rescued the dove!
He looks lovely. I took care of a wild juvenile dove over the summer. He is severely vertically challenged and I didn't want him to starve to death. I can always spot when he comes by because the moron still can't land for crap. He got the flying down, but landing is a close your eyes and pray type of activity
He's so cute! Pigeons are my favorite birds. I didn't know that doves also came in fancy colors like pigeons do. Maybe some day I'll be able to keep one.
Thanks Garden Creature. I have some branch shaped perches outside of the cage. I couldn't get them to connect well with the cage so I took them out of the cage. It only uses the cage for sleep so hopefully that's ok. Let me know.
My pigeon found my kitchen to be home the first two weeks I had her. I bought pigeon pants. I'm short and can't reach that high to clean up all her poos. They really like to find the highest point. At least until she found the aquarium. She likes to sit on the light. I recommend getting a heated perch. They regulate temperature through their feet.
This is an interesting comment. I have noticed that sometimes his feet are warm and sometimes not. I'm guessing going into loaf mode helps them with this. A heated perch is an interesting idea.
For those who want a Dove or Pigeon as a pet, there's a lot of them in the cities, and most of them always ends up hurted... SPECIALLY with TANGLED PAWS, it's so lethal for them as most of mines are rescued of always the same... Tangled paws. Pigeons that end up loosing several fingers or even the whole paw can't be in the streets bc Pigeons mostly walks for find food, and it's not only tirong but also so painful for them walking with a tangled paw that is already starting to root, they suffer a lot.. A Pigeon when well cared becomes your best comanion ever, they're extremly docile animals and learns extremly fast, specially young ones, so if u want a Pigeon, un can rescue a young one from the streets and he/she will be so happy with you in a few days 💛

So cute!🥰 We have about 25 pigeons (fantails) as pets outside. We built them aviary which we always open for the day and let them roam free, they don´t go very far and always come back. They are very smart and curious, and are always very quick to notice I have something tasty:) They are very social creatures though, they have complex relationships in their flock and they mate for life. The mates usually spend a lot of time together and care for each other. And apart of that, they can also spend a lot of time with their friends in the flock as well. Maybe Dough could have a friend in the future?😊 Anyway, sorry for the long comment, I just love talking about pigeons because they are so fascinating, and love that people are starting to appreciate them as pets and not only pests!
We got our orange pied ringneck doves a few years ago, and we raised 4 of their babies. Your dove looks almost identical to one of ours! And acts the same too 😂 Jelly has enjoyed all the hats, and playing my ukulele. Try teaching Doug how to play your banjo! We had one of our females lay an egg in a backpack hanging on a wall, they like picking the highest locations for nesting sites. Ours love our cieling fan (always stays off) and we have an over the door hanging organizer for all their nest boxes for easy keeping. Love the bird bath setup on your porch for the wild doves! Enjoy the companionship, doves are an experience 🕊️
Cage might be too small for a dove. They do better in aviaries, but I get it... I didn't even have a cage when I got my dove. I just set up a nest where he would sleep and otherwise he was just flying free in my bedroom, perching on the loft bed and stuff. It's not too hard to make an aviary honestly (just use wood and chicken wire), just make sure it's easy to clean and nothing sharp sticks out.
Hey thanks, you're right. Looking into building an aviary. The cage is mostly just for sleeping but I'd still like to give it a bigger space and if another dove enters the picture it'll be mandatory.
if ur building it outside, DO NOT USE CHICKEN WIRE. most predators are able to easily did through the wire.doves do get the higher ground but if the predator gives up, thr dove might just fly out in the unknown. instead, if u want ur doves to be as safe as possible, use hardware cloth. it id VERY strong.

Every morning Button flew around the house. After a week he decided to stop eating his food, I realized he was sad, and I brought him back where I found him. I held him for a little while until I saw his flock. I released him and up he went!! Right back to his flock in the trees. Then his whole flock circled around me overhead a few tines and flew into the trees. It is a cool memory. Viva Button!!
I had a dove for a while, an apricot colored ring-neck. He was the loudest, most obnoxious thing. When I was asking around about quiet birds, people were like, oh! doves are so sweet and quiet. LIES! The cooing sounds quiet from far away, but in the same house, it's like an alarm clock you can't turn off. All day, all night. COO-CROOO! COO-CROO! and the occasional, horrifying HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! like a haunted porcelain doll. lol

In my own as well as a lot of other people’s experiences, there’s no long term ill effects. All of my little guys are healthy and content.
I want dives and pigeons soooo bad, but all of my family refuses to get birds. I’m glad you have one and seem to be taking good care of it
Love the way you're singing to her. I do the exact same thing with my dove. He's a Barbary Dove, and I love making up silly little songs for him.
The way you sing and talk to dove friend ❤
He looks lovely. I took care of a wild juvenile dove over the summer. He is severely vertically challenged and I didn't want him to starve to death. I can always spot when he comes by because the moron still can't land for crap. He got the flying down, but landing is a close your eyes and pray type of activity
0:12 I thought there was a pan with oil prepared for the birb based on the sound.
it's so clear how much you love this little dove and that made me so happy as i watched this video
He's so cute! Pigeons are my favorite birds. I didn't know that doves also came in fancy colors like pigeons do. Maybe some day I'll be able to keep one.
I was half expecting a high energy tech youtuber video but instead of a blueyeti in the box it’s just a fluffy bird friend
Awww so pretty and friendly. I recommend the branch-shaped perches to you, it's a lot healthier for birdie feet. =)
Thanks Garden Creature. I have some branch shaped perches outside of the cage. I couldn't get them to connect well with the cage so I took them out of the cage. It only uses the cage for sleep so hopefully that's ok. Let me know.
what a beautiful animal. and the way it warmed up to you is amazing!
Gorgeous dove! So thankful he/she was alive and well.. 🧡
Doves are so damn gorgeous. They're so pleasing to look at, calming even.
I really love Doug!! he seems like such a sweet baby and hope he's settling in nicely!!
delightful 🥺 she is so shapely!! and I love the relaxed vibe of the video
Birds have bird feet and not paws.(google it if you don't believe me).
Great comment!
Looks like a tiny adorable seagull. 😂❤
Doug is so handsome, love this video, very cute!
Thank you! Was just watching your pileated woodpecker video. Believe it or not, just saw my first 2 the other day! They were extremely far away but it was still cool. Sometimes these birds feel like celebrities to me, lol.
@@bandsbirdzone That's awesome, I love those birds and I always get so excited when I see them - funny to watch them work😂don't think you would want one of them in your apartment though!
I thought the title was a joke😂. You actually unboxed a bird.
Love him sitting at the window watching the mourning doves. We have a nest on the patio & my cat does this, the babies grow up & like to fly at the window to mess with him 😂 They're frenemies
Maybe Dough could have a friend in the future?😊
Anyway, sorry for the long comment, I just love talking about pigeons because they are so fascinating, and love that people are starting to appreciate them as pets and not only pests!
What a pretty bird. I love this video, so goofy. ❤
This might be peak youtube
I had two white doves growing up, they’re such lovely pets. Congrats on your sweet bird
I love doves they're so adorable and so gentle and so peaceful I would buy a dozen doves if I could dovey Love 💕
The pacing and cinematography are better in this video than most I've heard about in the past few years.
Soooo sweet 💖 my dove likes so sit on my shoulder and be with me around the house:) I rescued her 2 years ago, her names Snoopy
That's such a cute name
what a pretty bird :)
The cage is mostly just for sleeping but I'd still like to give it a bigger space and if another dove enters the picture it'll be mandatory.
if ur building it outside, DO NOT USE CHICKEN WIRE. most predators are able to easily did through the wire.doves do get the higher ground but if the predator gives up, thr dove might just fly out in the unknown. instead, if u want ur doves to be as safe as possible, use hardware cloth. it id VERY strong.
me who literally has a king pigeon to cuddle with whenever i please watching this: dang i wish i had a bird so bad
Pretty bird 🐦
What a precious little Sweetheart!😊❤
A literal unboxing indeed. I did not expect THAT 🤣🤣❤️
He is so cute! 😍😍
Hope that he settles in well. 😊😊
Thanks! It's been 3 months since recording this video and he's doing great :)
@@bandsbirdzone I am so glad that he is doing so well. 👍👍
bird unboxing
i am obbssessed with doves and i havent seen many videos on taking care of them be uploaded as of late, so i was pleasantly surprised to find this upload!
wishing you and doug well :o)
I once tried to ship a cat (in an airplane to someone) and the regulations and paperwork was terrible, we tried shipping three times, separate hour drives to the airport and each time something went wrong. The person ended passing through the state and just picked it up on the way back to their place
Aww doug looks so sweet
Unboxing, Setup, First Impressions - that made me snort!
This is so beautiful, Doug is a sweetheart! Wishing you both the sweetest time together
Ngl but he adapted quickly.
Awesome, I love my birb. Pigeons are super fun animals, verrry moody tho.
When I was a little girl I caught a park pigeon from Golden Gate Park ( I know I know.. it was the 90's ok lol) and I named him Button after the bird in the book The Ringer which I had just read and I brought him home to visit my pet ring neck dove, DoveDov.
That makes sense. Rock pigeons, in general, are a much more social species than ring-neck doves.
gorgeous dove you have right there
I love when men have softer animals. My boyfriend absoutely adores our bunny and it is so endearing
The title made me choke on my frappe. This will be my first unboxing video ever. Excited.
너무 귀여워요~ 당신의 애정이 느껴져요
Doug the Dove is not scared of heights. 😲👍
COO-CROOO! COO-CROO! and the occasional, horrifying HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! like a haunted porcelain doll. lol
they didn't tell you that ringneck doves are a different species than domesticated doves 😅
@@RkkiTkkiTaavi there's like 20 species of domesticated dove, dude, and ringneck is one of them. You're going to have to be more specific about what species you're laughing at me for not getting instead.
Male birds are unfortunately pretty much always loud. I wanted a female pigeon to mitigate some of that but he ended up being male 😂 I’ve just learned to live with the coos.
Parrots can be much louder than male doves though.
@@Ariberry-n9w Which is why I didn't buy a parrot. lol
cute. fire up the N64
He does the 16 star speedrun.
what a delightful little man
congrats on your new Archimedes
Thank you.
That bird is in the best place with you! ^^
Thank you for sharing!
Doves are such cutie patooties
You have a dove AND an N64 setup?!? SUPER COOL!!!!! 😎
Yep! Btw, I watched the entire non-short video on your channel. I hope you can find time to make those follow up videos someday.
@@bandsbirdzone Thank you. My radiation treatment is over, so now I’m recovering. Lord willing, I’ll start posting again in October. ☺️
Beautiful dovie I have a dove Aviary mines are mini doves ,they are so loving and gentle, beautiful share thank you 🙏😊🕊️🎀
That's very true. Doug has never tried to hurt me even though I've definitely unintentionally annoyed him. Are mini doves diamond doves?
@@bandsbirdzone There very similar but greatly smaller in size and the colours vary differently depending on the gene mutation they carry🙏😇🕊️🦋🎀
