    Almost 2 years later and I will say things are fine still for this. Only a few things I would change:
    1) Use a bigger locking cam. It will make you feel more secure offroading since that little one is kinda wimpy
    2) Move it slightly out further and not so close to the hatch. This will allow #1 to work properly.
    3) Perhaps fab some struts to help with the weight.

      Lol can’t find an affordable one. The regear I did is satisfying my power needs for now. 488 are turning those tires fine now

      @@PhoRunner did you have issues running with the stock gearing before you went with 4.88? I am asking because I just switched to BFG KO2 33's on stock gearing on my 98 4runner and I haven't really noticed any different compared to stock size wheels. Any feedback on this is appreciated. Thank you

      I didn’t have issues city driving but going uphill was a chore. Very gutless. My tires are E range and mud terrains so probably heavier than the ko2

      @@PhoRunner i see. I watched your video on regearing & installing a locker on your front diff & it looked fairly easy (except for the little difficulty you ran into taking it out, lol). Very good & detailed video btw. I haven't come across your video on regearing the rear diff though. Did you do that yourself a well? I know you found an axle with a locker but I'm not sure if that is what you used and it already had 4.88 gears already. I'm looking into getting my diffs some lockers as well. How'd you like the lockers you installed for the front diff? I was thinking of going Thorsen lockers. What are your thoughts?

    • @PhoRunner
      @PhoRunner  2 роки тому

      That video was only the front locker. I haven’t made a video on regearing yet because it’s a difficult job lol. I might make a recap video on that experience. It was a painful process :). I tore it all apart again to put in the new gears :)

    I REALLY like this idea. I have a 2004 Lifted Suburban on 35s id like this for long trips. I'm in Vegas so I'm spoiled with a lot of Off roading close to me, but I would definitely like to take a spare sometimes. I usually travel with a truck load of kids and my wife and all their stuff lol so this would be perfect. Don't have a welder but maybe I can talk someone into a favor if i gather the materials.

    • @PhoRunner
      @PhoRunner  Рік тому +1

      You can buy a preassembled one that is much better. The welding and fabrication will be pricey

    Excellent. I stop carrying my tire on the door because it’s too heavy. Now I just carry it inside. Definitely will need to have the same set up you have because when I have tours, the back is where I put luggage etc.. thanks again for another excellent video Man.

      Hopefully you can find some of the parts where you’re at. You can easily use 3 pieces of metal for the vertical piece.

    Another Idea that would be cool to see you explore is the positioning of a doughnut shaped emergency tool kit that is basically an old spare tire with the side cut off to store more tools in case of emergency. using the spare tire mechanism to access them in the event that you need tools for some sort of breakdown. You may as well use that spare tire space for something under there ahe? If you are concerned about things bouncing in there you will want them wrapped up and perhaps even use a partially inflated inner tube to keep things in place when the tire is tucked under the rear there. I know that when we go camping it is nice to have some things that are rarely accessed out of the way and that could be a good spot now that you have the spare carrier...kick it up a notch?

    Hi. Nice setup . I've been undecided on which kind of tire carrier to get. I've seen this kind of setup before and it's looking great. I'm curious, what truck did your hitch come from. I've never seen them with round tube like yours. I've only seen them with the square tube. Just curious. I like to know what parts fits my car/truck that are from different cars/trucks, lol. Thank you for your time.

    Do you find it causes issues with your departure angle? I would have gone this route but i also wanted options for mounting extra fuel, propane, and a shovel in addition to the tire. I think a diy swingout is what im gravitating towards. Thought?
    Love the channel and thanks for all that you do!

    • @PhoRunner
      @PhoRunner  2 роки тому +1

      It’ll definitely hit that hitch ball area on departure. For all the extra goodies like maxtrax, propane, camp table, etc, a swing out is definitely a better option. As long as you don’t go to Costco with this vehicle, you won’t have an angry wife lolll
