Innistrad: Midnight Hunt is one of Magic's spookiest sets ever! After all, it's set on the gothic horror plane of Innistrad, and the story revolves around a harvest festival. Midnight Hunt isn't just some cute festive set either -- it was also SUPER strong. In this video we'll take a look at the 10 card from Innistrad Midnight Hunt that have left the biggest impact on competitive Magic: the Gathering.

My main takeaway from this list is that someone wanted to make Pioneer Horizons, was told they couldn't and entirely coincidently was told they were in charge of Midnight Hunt.
When you got to Storm the Festival, it made me think that its kind of funny that the thing that finally stopped Mono-Green Devotion's dominance in Pioneer was the banning of a colorless card; Mono-Green Devotion was really a strange package of two entirely different decks that happened to have a weird synergy - Mono-Green Devotion works on its own but its the artifact toolbox package centered around Karn, the Great Creator that gave the deck consistency in being able to pull out hate pieces and wincons like Cityscape Leveler to sink their mana into
ITS TIME! Spooky Nizzahon is finally back!
Consider is built so different that I thought it was a reprint here. Mentally I always put it next to powerhouses like Ponder and Preordain
Honestly the flub of "each opponent loses 1 life and gains 1 life" could actually be a neat mechanic to play around. Imagine something that triggers when your opponent gains life, rather than if you gain life.
Or imagine a really efficiently costed but risky black “burn” spell. Like 1 black mana for “Target player loses 5 life, then gains 5 life.” Does next to nothing unless the target is at 5 or less life, but if they are it wins you the game. Maybe too swingy to actually be printed, but it’s a fun idea.
That wouldn't kill the opponent though.
@@STank-bot_88wouldn’t it if the lose five resolves first?
@@EBurstyn People being dead isn't check until the spell fully resolves.
@@EBurstynno, they are both happening in the same effect. You'd need it to be a separate trigger. You could do something like "target player loses 5 life. When they do, they gain 5 life."
As a casual, I never realized how strong and influential MID was. Makes sense now that I see the lsit.
That set can hardly be called MID :D
Innistrad as a setting has added so many iconic and powerful cards to every mtg format
Omg the intro is wonderful! Thank you for doing spooky top tens they make my day. I am a witch at heart so it’s fitting.
Alright, that All Hallow's Eve intro was the best thing I've seen in a while.
Maybe ever. 🎃👻🐈⬛
Nice editing on the opening. I always saw The Dark as one of MTG's spookiest sets. Not just in name but truly, horrific art style and cards.
I have a 720 card Innistrad cube that uses all of the sets and only about 15-20 cards outside the set in theme to round out the colors. It is honestly the most fun we have and a lot of it is due to the midnight hunt cards.
Same here! Except i do have about 100 almost themed cards instead, i open it up a bit more.
How do you use the 720 card deck? Is it the same.format or is it a different game?
@@ASchell90 A cube is a custom draftable format where you create the draft. There's 720 cards to draft from. The decks will be minimum 40 cards like all drafted decks are.
@@fionathegayesttiefling9867 Interesting, very cool thank you.
@ASchell90 it is meant to simulate closer to random packs rather than drafting out the whole cube each time. That said, it can draft up to 16 players if you have them. And yes the decks are 40 cards after the draft.
ERRRM ACTUALLY 9:35 🤓 you wouldn't ALWAYS get to scry because some tokens have printed values or are copies of permanents with a mana value higher then three.
Surprised to not see Reckless Stormseeker anywhere. Saw tons of play in standard and was the lynchpin for the gruul boats deck in pioneer for a while.
It might be interesting to do top tens on which cards have been the best in various Limited formats, ranked by 17lands data
9:49 Small correction to Fading Hope always getting a scry by bouncing a token - that assumes the token isn’t a copy of a non-token creature.
Good list. Due to reprints ,I forgot that "consider" was reprinted in Midnight hunt.
It wasn't a reprint in MID, it was the original print
@@caseywellington4761 my fault, I did not phrase it correctly: what I meant was that since Midnight Hunt, consider has been reprinted on other sets as commander reprint and in Ravnica "Clue" edition that I forgot that it was printed first in Midnight hunt.
What if do a video about the worst lands that produce multiple colors of mana.
Not a bad idea.
oh yeah spooky opening LETS gooo
Perfect viewing for my morning Coffee “Cheers” ☕️
Fantastic editing on that intro Nizzahon looking forward to these videos every Friday 🎃 this month
Midnight hunt is one of my all time favorite sets, is good to see it has great cards for eternal formats
Hi Nizzahon, great video as always. I was wondering that, since the number 10 has 76 points, it would be feasible to also include some "honorable mentions" of cards above 50 or smth like that which would also be included in most sets top 10's
Love the intro, love the video. Great watch as always
Hey Nizz!
Looking great today in the intro!
Truth be told, I haven't actually played a lot of Midnight Hunt. Aside from Wrenn and Seven, which I put in my Multani deck. But I do like the set, although obviously not as much as I like "Top 10 Vintage Cards (Minus Power 9)"!
I miss combining this and Fleshbag Marauder with Mikaeus the Unhallowed.
It's funny to me that UB was by far the best colour pair in MID draft and it also dominated this top 10.
haha love this good ol' intro, makes me feel old tho lmao
Great intro
Have you ever done a top 10 of the highest scoring cards in a specific format? That would be quite interesting
I doubt that, actually. For Legacy, it would be Brainstorm, FoW, BoP, StP, etc. Vintage would just be the Power 9 plus the cards in Legacy. Standard would be heavily weighted toward cards that have received numerous reprints. Modern and Pioneer would be heavily weighted toward decks that didn’t require bans since their inception.
Hope Consider gets a reprint in Foundations. Fits the bill of a simple, yet powerful card, yet not too powerful for standard, and I know there's at least one new standard card now that would absolutely love it (Abhorrent Oculus).
Halloween intro is back!
so strong for a set with the abbreviation MID.
Is Consider the fasted card to get to 250 points. How fast cards get to certain thresholds like that could be an interesting way to get more ideas for top 10s.
Certainly surprised by the order of #2 and #1
I will never get over the fact that this was supposed to be the werewolf set, but on the whole Crimson Vow had better werewolves. lmao
The Meathook Massacre's printing was a HUGE mistake. What a goddamn oppressive card.
Mhm. Idk. Its very strong for sure but i dont think it was a mistake. Its kinda balanced around that you have to spend a lot of mana into it to Hit the whole Board and often you dont clear the biggest threads.
Not really. A strong black card in a meta where black was arguably a bit too strong. It's not like MHM breaks anything or wins games by itself, though
@@dunpeal1923if you are running it as straight removal you're not getting its full potential though. Even if you pay X=0 the life gain/loss whenever creatures die is a big deal, specially if you're sacrificing lots of your own creatures
@captainshiner42 nah. Meathook massacre is a great card for sure but we ha e seen much worse before and after the card. Basically all 1UG mythic in the past 5 years have been much worse.
Top 10 one-mana blue instants!
It would all be Cantrips and somewhat conditional counter spells
This channel is top 1 in mágic UA-cam ❤
I'm gonna go with meathook or graveyard tresspasser
Nice intro!
Safe to say that people who thought Meathook Massacre would be #1 didn't Consider what gives a lot of decks the utility they need. I'm surprised none of the Adversaries had a spot on the list, but makes sense when everything else does more without needing the extra cost to be paid.
Actually, I think a lot of people just don't realize that this was the card's first printing. It just seems like a card that has been around longer.
@@arson55 I was playing a lot of Arclight Phoenix when it was first printed so was glad it came about when while a seemingly small effect, is very powerful in the right deck. Damn shame the control meta got Brainstorm banned in historic when that was an amazing card in my deck and had to lay it to rest after that banning.
I think we can safely consider number 1 to be a lock forever
I looooove this opening
SPOOKY MTG TOP 10!!!! 🎃🧟👻
Storm the festival not having storm feels so wrong XD
Every card having every mechanic or type its name references feels even worse.
I’m going to guess meathook is #1 but consider probably also has a lot of points maybe 3 or 4
I "Consider' it to be the best card on the list😏
innistrad cant be the spookiest set because even the spookiest dudes trembled in fear by the looks of the phyrexians and emrakul and her brood!
I thought Werewolf Packleader would be nere the top but as it turns out that card isn't even from Innistrad!
Anybody know why Consider doesn't say "Surveil 1" on the card? It was already a keyword by that time
It hadn't been made an evergreen keyword, though. It was just a mechanic that showed up in a Ravnica set. It became evergreen later.
@@NizzahonMagic aah that checks out. Thanks!
Nooo the freaky intro with the eyeball is back :3
Yessssssss
How'd you make the intro?
Magic....duh
Wait wasn’t it 2021?
