    Hasn't the American soul been tainted by the sin of aggressive conquest ever since the revolution? Perhaps even earlier when the European idea of superiority, fortified by greed and religion, set foot at Jamestown and Plymouth Rock. Certainly Spain and Portugal had lead the way. Power and treasure are are the motivating features of every empire.
