- Ted Lasso is slowly becoming my new favorite comedy show with Jason Sudeikis playing good-spirited coach Ted Lasso. There's nothing like the Ted Lasso way and this scene had me cracking up.
"WE'RE TALKING ABOUT PRACTICE, NOT A GAME, PRACTICE!" (Scene Clip)
Ted Lasso is an American sports comedy television series developed by Bill Lawrence, Jason Sudeikis, Joe Kelly and Brendan Hunt, based on a character of the same name that Sudeikis first portrayed in a series of promos for NBC Sports' coverage of the Premier League. The series premiered on Apple TV+ on August 14, 2020[1] and was renewed for a second season five days after its premiere.[2]
Love how they flipped the Iverson rant around in this scene
I love how the three players around Jamie disappear when they know the hammer is coming down! It was every man for himself after the "just practice" comment.
When Ted enunciated about the word "practice", I already had a gut feeling he was going for the Allen Iverson rant.
"There are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man."
I was pleasantly surprised how well he pulled this scene off after I first began noticing what he was pulling off.
Jamie's smug expression fading every close up was soooo satisfying...
I beleive it was at this moment that he truly won over the locker room and earned their respect. Franchise player or not, no one is bigger than the team. I love this show!
Some people may not know this but this scene and the Allen Iverson rant it was based on meant a lot to Jason Sudeikis. Jason grew up in Virginia, where Allen Iverson is also from, and Jason himself played a little bit of low level college basketball so he's a big fan of both the sport and AI. He included this rant as a tribute to AI, not to make fun of him.
Beard is the only one in the room that got it, his big smirk says it all.
"we talking about practice" - Allen Iverson---- Ted lasso - Michael Scott
If this was the only scene in the entire series, it would still be winning emmys.
So much to observe in this scene, especially if you're watching season 2.
What I love about Ted coming back after "It's just practice" is not only was he dealing with Jamie's shit attitude, he was gaining the respect of the team at-large. If Ted let that comment slide, he would have lost any power and authority with the others. Ted's response not only humiliated and backfired on Jamie, but it made the other players realize that just because Ted doesn't know the first thing about soccer, he wouldn't tolerate any bullshit.
I always like it when the nice guy/dad gets fed up and finally put his foot down. This was coming from not only a coach but as a responsible father. Also the fact that we see Roy smirking made it funnier because Jamie deserved it.
As soon as he said "It's just practice" and Ted turned around I knew exactly what was about to happen. This made me so happy
Ted proving that being "nice" is not the same as being a pushover. They also used a Dutch angle brilliantly!
Roy Kent “Oooh, that’s gotta sting…….cheers.”
The most infamous moment in American sports and Ted Lasso lands the hottest take.
So many aspects of this scene are truly fabulous. Allen Iverson's infamous rant expressed his frustration about missing practice during a period of grieving for a friend who was recently killed. And Iverson conveyed his emotion in a joking manner. Here, Jason Sudeikis interprets the source material and escalates the emotion considerably towards Jamie. Ted berates Jamie in front of the team in part to show who is in charge. Finally at @
The cinematography really adds a lot to this scene when they switch to the angled shot. The way the intensity in Ted matches the tilted angle in those shots adds a subtle layer of depth that highlights the skill put in to this show. Nice
