Nice. I have a Crusader MK1, that I use at least twice a week in the local woods and valleys. I took my girlfriend out for a walk up in the local hills a while back and we sat down, I got out the Crusader and made us a brew. She never thought you could do something like that out in the sticks. She liked it that much, that next time we went out, she made the brews on the Crusader. I went out last week to my local surplus store and bought her own Crusader set up so we can also cook and get a brew going, using both sets.
Nice demonstration of the use of the BCB kit. Thank you for taking the time to make and share this video. Stay well, stay safe, Helen and Katarin Juska-Law and Terri with Robyn. (Eastern UK Fenlands.)
Very informative and very familiar too! Like you I have a stainless mug instead of the plastic one. Also a lid cut out of an old old cookset long ago lost. I've tried firedragon gel in the burner- ok but it does leave a residue. Also made a burner in a boot polish tin with fibreglass and wire gauze out of a cafetiere. Trouble is it doesn't burn for long enough. I think it is a shame they didn't make the base deep enough to take a Trangia burner like the older type Svea cooksets had. I think of the two I prefer the Svea for that reason and because it does come with two metal pots. No water bottle though.
Nice video and well presented. I have the MKII Crusader and it has improved extremely well, so much so that I use it most times I'm out in the field. Its deep enough for a trangia, pellet tin stove, fire gel, fire rope and meths and in a real emergency you can even fill it up with tinder, twigs and pine cones. The MKII is anodised aluminium and really light. A 10% water mix with your meths will keep the burn nice and clean. Thanks for sharing.
just ordered a kit, the BCB bottle is being swapped with a genuine one as they don't leak, I was using a bcb firedragon stove which is fine until the wind picks up (hence me buying a proper system), nice review thanks!.
Great vid, I enjoyed your presentation. I do like a Korma too, but I'm not a fan of those packet rices. They are convenient but have a weird taste. Have you tried the Mk2 lightweight kit? Thanks
I found that a Beeman 177 pellet tin fits perfectly into an Esbit stove, you can close the Esbit stove with the tin in it. I'm going to try some sterno gel in it. What material did you use inside your pellet tin to make your burner?
i don't know about this crusader kit? that's why i'm watching this video. it is absolutely face wrinkling to me to see no metal factory made lid. looking on ebay all i see for it is a plastic lid. plastic ..... that's face wrinkling. every cook pot for any pot for any use should come with a lid - no excuses (period). a metal lid too - not plastic. companies manufacture things and market them with idiots at the helm - that's gotta be the problem. having to buy aftermarket is bullcorn. thx4vid - i thumbed it up.
Yes I just looked on EBay, no metal lids at all just plastic! There must be a reason? I think these are used by the British army so maybe lids are not needed there? I would like to see a light gauge steel lid made. The aftermarket ones are nice but for me are too robust and weighty. Aluminium diy ones are ok but can get mangled after a while! Thanks for the comment.
Yes, it is strange. I have used the Crusader for several years and love the canteen and plastic mug but never use the stainless steel cup these days. I do all my cooking on a wood or spirit stove and cook in a pot. Usually I take my MSR Seagull which is absolutely bomb proof and has a lid which snaps down firmly when not in use. I use the pot, when it is not earning its keep cooking, to carry my fire kit, tinder, eating irons, cleaning stuff and so on.

So romantic! She’ll never forget her first Crusader kit.

Finally! Someone who gets prepped before lighting the stove - well done sir.

A good video and i like your tidy approach to leave no trace my friend.
Hi m8t liking the old barbaque trick with the tin bottom and grill will sertainly add those to my crusader set . Good vid keep. Them coming
Thanks, it's good to spread the ideas around!

If you placed your mesh on top of first cup been heated ,you could place your meal above to catch any lost heat .
Thanks for sharing. The US military should start using the BCB/Osprey cook system. Far superior system.

Great vid. That's all you need is a tin of curry and a pack of uncle Ben's. Sorted.
The Crusader is a great bit of kit.
Nice job on the burner tin , simple ideas mean a lot in the end , good vid. :)
British kit is awesome !
i find heating the curry before adding the rice works betterand means you dont need to bother about simmering
Nice little cook out...........looking forward to your next episode man 👍
Loved this and i need to try this myself thank you for the idea this is my first view of your channel and you have a new sub thanks
Get a bottle of nail varnish remover from Asda £1. Use the bottle for meths its 300ml and has a suitable screw on lid ;-) nice vid
Yes I need another bottle as this one failed and leaked!
I really like the cook kit, you got my sub man gonna check out your other vids.

Great vid mate glad I don't have traffic where I stay
for a optimal good burn (blue flame) this BCB burner must be modify. The pot (under) must be one inch aboven the flame. (2,25 cm)
Good video. What is the black fabric stuff you put in your stove? I couldn't tell from the audio.
It's Carbon felt but glass fibre Matt or rope works just as well
+Bushcraft1974 Thanks very much. I've never heard of using this before today. Knowledge really is power. Cheers.
Nice
Cheers and Greetz from Germany!
Thanks, shame there is nowhere quiet near me to film tho!
Stainless beats titanium 9 X out of 10
The lid is kinda interesting
if u r ever in the states come to idaho and I will take u far away from cars it's beautiful out here
Hi could you tell me where you got the carbon felt please, I cant find it in the uk
What's that background noise wind ? Traffic
Yes Traffic, i was in a small woodland next to the M25 motorway.
good vid mate. did you make the lid yourself? do you sell them?
Thanks, yes it's a DIY lid but I don't sell them as someone else on eBay was already doing them.
Modify the kit,to bring the cup 1 cm down.(first yellow flame After modify: blue flame)
Thanks for the advice.
That bag was it the BCB one? Mine is so tight you have to squeeze everything out like a lumpy toothpaste tube lol
Yes it's the BCB one. I think there are two types now the Crusader 2 set is out so maybe they are a different size now?
Good video but I wouldn't trust that cork stopper for the fuel bottle !!!!
trinovantian1 Thanks! Yep it eventually leaked! Went back to using both the modern Trangia and older Swedish mess kit bottles.
You could do with carrying a spork other than that rock on.
U need a second stove
Great UA-cam man but..the background noise very distracting .
Yep that's the M25, there are quieter areas near me that I have since found.

You need better audio, maybe one of those furry covers for the microphone ?
PCDU
This is not what you called an outdoor cooking man. There is no cooking at all, the food is already made food in the tin. Nothing special. Sorry
