Pauly isn't making fun of Richard. He's not even doing an impression of Richard, just delivering the message of Richard. And don't pretend anyone hasn't made fun of Richard.

I never made fun of Richard Simmons but first off when I started watching this the first few seconds I noticed it was insulting the way he was talking
I wasn’t a fan of Pauly Shore, but it’s been awhile, and this changed my view. I was very impressed with his portrayal of Richard Simmons. That short film made a big impression and I hope they get to take it further. It could be a good thing for the world to be reminded of (or introduced to) the kind heart and non-judgmental approach that inspired and encouraged many.
I respect that Richard Simmons wants to live a quiet life these days, but I hope he will realize that his legacy can continue making a difference, and will give his blessing. He doesn’t have to come out of retirement. He can just sit back and collect.
Omg it’s so fucking awesome! Watched it today. I think once Richard sees it, and sees it’s not a spoof or make fun of him in any way. Pauly actually captured his essence in so many ways. He’ll come around to it. Might be some best acting I’ve seen Pauly do since his 90’s stardom.
My favorite is Son in Law. But this short was amazing. I wanted more. Didn't know they might make movie!

Richard Simmons is an American hero (sweating to the oldies, mfker!) . He's up there with Fred Rogers.

I think Pauly saying that he too deserves an award because his 2 other colleagues have gotten them spells trouble, ego, & some sort of desperate entitlement & glorification because of the longevity of career where he has not gotten any real good accolades for & since. I hope it works out for him though & that the biopic is something that might make Richard change his mind & also make Richard proud of it, perhaps, as long as it gives an authentic picture. Richard had been known to sometimes be a diva & a difficult boss, but that is understandable when the product is his intellectual property, finances, face & name. Richard did help a lot of people with their health & exercise over the decades.
If you've followed Pauly in his career he's just having fun and drawing attention to the project.
I hope that the story doesn't "out Richard". I appreciate Pauly doing a film, playing him, but I think that outing Richard would be a big disservice to him. He's never openly said he was gay and I think his privacy should remain just that, private.

I support it. If someone can make a biopic on Gypsy Rose or someone do one on Trump they surely can do this. Richard should appreciate it. Looks like they are trying to do who he is justice. Richard is so reclusive now, the rest of the world whom he affected with his "positivity" want this movie so ya I dig it so far. I hope Pauly gives this his all and proves all the haters wrong.

I was taken back by the depiction I saw in the short. I wasn't expecting something so real and (I have to say) feeling.
He made him look amazing and kind warming giving human being that wanted everyone to be happy and live long happy lives!!
Pauly nailed this guy. I'm not sure why Richard didn't like it, but it seems so spot on.
I'm old enough to have witnessed Richard's ascension in the media and American culture. When I first heard Pauly was doing this, I was skeptical because...Pauly. I sincerely want to believe these projects will be respectful, especially considering Richard's voluntary withdrawal from the limelight. Understand...in the '80s and '90s, there were very few public figures more recognizable than Richard Simmons. His flamboyance, his energy, and his wardrobe--while, at times, polarizing--marked a significant chapter in the history of American entertainment. As you learned more of his backstory (which he protected enthusiastically), you understood his motivation was centered more about sharing love than seeking it. There were a lot of health and fitness mavens who crossed our path during that era, such as Jane Fonda, Gilad Janklowicz ("Bodies in Motion"), Jake Steinfeld (Body by Jake), Tony Little (and his ponytail), and Billy Blanks (Mr. Tae-Bo himself), just to name a few. Of all of them, Richard was the most visible and personable of all of them, because his goal was to get people moving to feel better and not just look better. It's going to be difficult for me to support any Richard Simmons project which doesn't have his endorsement AND doesn't treat his story with the respect it deserves.
Pauly was a giant in his day. Today, it’s hard to appreciate the humor just because culture has changed. You can’t deny he was on top for a few years at one point. I don’t know if today’s generation will get it. Good part is this role doesn’t look to be “pauly” but rather a real attempt to document Richard Simmons which is super interesting. Both of these guys had a real place in the past and influenced millions of people/
I can deny it. He's not funny, never was.
They already LOOK like they could be brothers. I think that there is a miniscule chance that Pauly will immerse himself in Richard's psyche and deliver a performance that gives us a peek into who Richard really is and WHAT made him the unique character THAT he is. But I am betting that Pauly will mainly be poking fun at Richard. After all, Pauly IS a comic and Richard IS an easy target. I am waiting to see!

I could understand Richard wanting to just be left alone... and I can understand his mistrust on a biopic. I don't know I watched the short... its a love letter to Richard. It didn't come off as mean in anyway, it was sweet. I know Richard just wants to enjoy a quite life. I do hope though that after seeing this, he give permission to use some of his book and maybe spends a few days meeting and approving a writer(s) for a film. It could be a wonderful heartwarming little slice of joy for an hour and a half or so.
Pauly Shore might actually be the right guy for the job? I know its crazy but there it is. Perhaps someone flipped the CERN collider in reverse, and we jumped into a better timeline. One in which Pauly Shore the most 90s of the 90s court jesters pulls out a proper touching tribute flick to RS.

Just remember Richard Simmons sold his story rights to Wolper movie productions who are behind this movie.The question is will Pauly star in the role or will they choose someone unknown? Pauly would need to get some work fillers on his face so he could at least look around 45.If they can make him look refreshed it could work.

looks good from the trailer and I think shore could do an amazing job with this role but it also seems not very nice to make the film if the subject doesn't want it made.

Let's be fair. If Pauly shore is serious about this. Then let's give him a chance to prove himself. Maybe the movie might not be good but I admire comedians trying to do dramas. I support him 100%.

I saw this film thanks to a buddy of mine. Wes, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I was stoked thst Pauly played the part of Richard. He such a sweetheart, and I hate that he gets crapped on! Take a second to think about how other people feel before you're mean to them or before you join in laughing with someone being mean to a person. It's not nice! There's a lot of people out there who say they're nice people, but they're actually just mean, and it's not acceptable! Respect the man who's tried to be uplifting, and bring happiness to audiences. Don't just crap on him because you think he's stupid. That stuff hurts! Be happy weez i love you ❤️

But regarding another comment, Richard Simmons b 1948 Pauly Shore b 1968, so it can be done, if you're willing to squint and Pauly REALLY digs in on the performance. And I think the guys on board did the Robin Williams test short film, so they're good with make up.

Everyone is saying that Richard doesn’t want Pauly to portray him in a movie , and that’s not exactly what he is saying. He’s saying he doesn’t want a movie about his life being made because he lives a quiet life. It’s not that he’s against Pauly, it’s asking to be left alone.
I think its a heart warming story about Richard and it makes sense for him to have pushback. But not once those checks start coming in im sure he will be ok with the movie

As much as I was rooting for Pauly the fact he can’t even pronounce Ke Huy Quan’s name after knowing him for decades is pretty fn sad. Why even say his name if he can’t pronounce it. Isn't it a little bit unfair and rather insulting to a person's legacy to suggest that it "needs" to be interpreted by a dramatized biopic? It's one thing to wait until a person is dead, or get their permission and cooperation for the portrayal, but to go ahead with the project against the subject's wishes is the opposite of paying that person homage and respect.
Pauly just wants to CASH IN on Richard's popularity. HE DID NOT WANT THIS. If you love him Pauly, RESPECT him and let him rest in PEACE!

I miss those innocent times (compared to the 💩 show we have today). Richard Simmons was the sweetest most kind fitness guru of all time. Every Mommy I knew was sweating to the oldies. He was so entertaining, he made you wanna move ❤️ wherever you are RS we still love and miss you ❤️❤️❤️
Unless I missed something, I thought Court Jester was a very respectful portrait of Richard.
So, I watched The Court Jester, and honestly, its Pauly Shore being himself - he is not bringing Richard out at all. He might look like him, thats great; people tell me that I look like Cillian Murphy, you 'aint gonna see me canvasing play him in a bio pic. So, I am firm with Richard Simmons on this one. Respect the requests of the person who's story you're about to try and rip off Pauly.
Simmons never said he didn't approve of Shore.....just he didn't approve the movie/documentary. At least from Simmons post that everyone and everything has been referring to. Shore looks INDENTICAL to Simmons and also has his eccentric attitude. If Shore tuned down the language, hell, nobody would even know Simmons had passed if no one was told. Shore could Millie Vanille Simmons......point blank.

I agree. I liked the short film, but I've actually been putting on old episodes of sweatin' to the oldies lately to work out and Richard was more trim, also Pauly needs to get his moves a little more right. Richard was super graceful and Pauly moves a little clunky. Weight loss or not, at least get his moves right. And yeah the wig could look more natural. If they make a full length movie, maybe they'll be able to afford a better hair and makeup person.
That short was a B for effort. It didn’t capture Richard for me. This was more for Paulie than for Richard. I hope someone does an unauthorized film short for Paulie later in life to see what it feels like to have his story and likeness exploited without his consent for gain.

It was really well done, and Pauly was excellent. It couldn't be a more respectful portrayal of Simmons, who, let's face it, is a clown of sorts. It's a very sweet short film.

Richard is an easy target, but he means well. He’s a good guy. Definitely goofy, but there’s no dark/sinister side of Simmons.
