Seen them live, met & hung out with them & they even called my daughter & son during their times in hospital to raise their spirits! They're truly phenomenal musically and as people ❤️

I chuckle everytime someone says that they like TDS's "southern" feel/sound. :-D
    Here's a quick wiki quote, to explain why;
"The Dead South is a folk-bluegrass musical ensemble based in *Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.* The band was initially formed in 2012"
Also...being as they are from Saskatchewan, they'd probably say they look like *Mennonites* rather than Amish. Mainly because there is a large Mennonite population in that province.
(in Canada in general, because comparatively, they out number the Amish here by almost 10 to 1)
I've always appreciated that, stripped back sound, especially over the last few decades with the advent of electronic(digital) so-called enhancements oozing up from the pop music scene into real music, so I was an instant fan when I first heard these guys a few years back, in a youtube vid of some live show, in a bar somewhere, doing this song.
(even though 'I' personally woulda ranked them a tad higher...lol)
    Great reaction, as always
    Keep on, keepin on.

It's a cello played like a base which can be a bit strange to some. Having seen them live the voices do connect and link fantastically but that's just my opinion

I absolutely dig this song. I just recently discovered them, when this video popped up on youtube. I just subscribed to their youtube channel, but haven't watched any other the videos there, yet.

They don't have a bass player. They do have a cello player.

If she can't tell a cello from a bass, she shouldn't be reviewing music.

From what I understand, this song came into being on a day when Scott Pringle (the skinny looking guy in the center) wasn’t around while they were working on ideas for new material. Danny Kenyon was warming up his celo and happened to whistle a bit and Nate (the man in black) liked it and they liked the idea of a more minimalist song.
Check out the live concert video from The House of Blues in Boston. Both Scott and Nate play guitar, with Scott also playing mandolin.
The opening song of Diamond Ring might be more to your liking.

The bass player was playing a cello not a bass. And this band is from Canada not the southern US.

Really, any of their songs. Black Lung, Travelin’ Man, Gunslingers Glory, Heaven in a Wheelbarrow, so many to choose from.

    Banjo Odyssey, good song but...
Sort of creepy after you hear it and see a recent issue one of the band members had.

I believe if you saw their other songs, you can appreciate how broken down this song is. The other songs sound full with all instruments, but the simplicity of this song is what makes it stand out.

Black Lung has a better feel. Or if you want more instrumental depth, The Good Lord is badass..Or Boots. Even Gunslingers Glory is great. In Hell I'll be in good company is popular for sure but they have so many other songs that are soo much better.

“In Hell….” Drew me in because the video is just so fun to watch, but yeah, there are other songs that I have come to enjoy even more.

Probably their most well known song but not their best. Banjo Oddessy, The recount and Black Lung for example are better.

That's a little comedy yet bluegrass vibe not sure I'd add it to my play list but it's kinda cool.
