To anyone who wants to know this, it is not just impossible to evolve your starter Pikachu in Yellow, it is impossible to evolve a Pikachu in Yellow version that matches your Trainer name and ID in general. Because even if you used cheats to catch another Pikachu, both Pikachus will refuse to evolve with a Thunderstone, because they match your Trainer ID, and normally there is no way to obtain another Pikachu in the game without trading, so the game actually thinks that both are your starter Pikachu. In fact, if you deposit either of the Pikachus into the PC, one of them will still follow you around, even the one you cheated to catch that isn't your starter. You also cannot release the Pikachu you cheated for, just like your starter. The game treats any Pikachu with a matching Trainer ID and name as your own starter Pikachu, even if it isn't. The only way to evolve any Pikachu in Yellow is if the Pikachu does not match your Trainer ID, i.e. it was traded. And of course to evolve the starter Pikachu and even the Pikachu you cheated to catch in Yellow, you have to trade it to another game, even if that other game is another Yellow. Unless that file on Yellow just so happens to have the same trainer name and ID as the one on your game... (which is unlikely but possible) then that game will treat your Pikachus as its own.
So will using ws m to temporarily change my name and ID will make evolving Pikachu possible? EDIT: I tried just changing my name temporarily and it worked! My Pikachu *evolved!*
@@bennel3588 I dont thin it is a glitch, back in the day I traded my Pikachu to another game and then traded it back to yellow, he wouldnt follow me around anymore and then I just went to the pc and released him, I could never get him to follow me again even if I got another Pikachu

well, I can agree that Pikachu might not be the best starter, but come on, it's not THAT bad. Besides, through the remainder of the game you can get all of the original starters: Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle. I always admired Yellow version for that :)

@TheJimmys11 Pokemon yellow was a travesty to the red/blue generation. It was the only game that copied the show, instead of vice versa. And forcing you to pick an AWFUL starter on top of that. Yellow could be wiped from the pages of history, and I'd be fine with it.
@FerrariSorry This guy here is trying to catch a specific pokemon i.e. Raichu whose hex number is 85 specified by the Special stat of the last pokemon he battled. Since Ditto was the last pokemon he fought and was also able to copy the Special stat of his Blastoise it Transformed into the pokemon he encountered was indeed a Raichu. If opponent Special stat is 85=Raichu if opponent Special stat is 21=Mew and so on. Ditto + Transformation=The Special stat of your pokemon.
Doing the mew glitch with different trainers will yield different Pokemon due to the varying Special stats. I'm pretty sure you can get a Lapras or a Gengar depending upon which trainer you fought last on Route 25 before heading back to Cerulean.
85 is the hex code for Raichu since Ditto copies the stats of the pokemon your battling. Mew's hex code is 21 same as the Slowpoke that Youngster uses.
I did some glitch Pokemon searching in Pkmn yellow and generated raichu. Use LRT glitch find a random trainer then fly to cinnabar and surf east toward seafoam cave and encounter a lvl 40 tentacool. It generates Raichu.
