- Jyoti Hegde is a prominent Rudra Veena Player in India, and probably alone female Rudra Veena player of such stature. She lives near Sirsi in Karnataka in a forest. This is a part of the feature length documentary I am making on Rudra Veena. Rudra Veena is an unique indian classical instrument which almost on it's way to get extinct.
It feels so good to see a music maestra is so sown to earth person, managing her duties along with great contribution to music. May she live a thousand years and may goddess Saraswati bless her.

I heard Jyoti first in 2017, and knew this instrument was divine. I found this documentary in 2018, and since then have acquired a Rudra Veena of my own - I listen to much of her playing, as each time she plays is a masterclass. I have a very long way to go, but watching this helps keep the fire burning for progress.

This is Rudra Bin. My examiner in Sitar in 1969 was Md. Dabir Khan of Senia Gharana,
and renowned Bin player and dhrupad vocalist. He was a diect blood line decendent of Tansen.

One year back , for the first time in my life I heard Rudraveena...believe me I cannot go a day without listening to Rudraveena. It’s deeper mandra sound just touches the rasasthana so smoothly and make anyone to enter into meditative mood naturally.. Can someone please give her contact details?

Rudra veena played like this does not allow a view of the fret to the vidwan, and hence differs from Saraswati Veena in this aspect. Another big difference is the second resonator (kuja/kudam) which rests on the shoulder.
24 frets , 4 main strings plus 3 tala strings are common for both.

It is wonderful to share this video and know more about her.. but if only, the artist and their family members were allowed to talk in their mother tongue and then later given a sub title ?! Jyoti hegde and his daughter in law have tried really hard to express themselves, you should have made it easier to them. Why do you all need everything to be in Hindi or in English ?!

Dear @rajesh bhatia I watch ALL her clips. Because I love and admire her respectfully as a great musician. I may not be very knowledgeable in hindustani classical music, but I loved it since I first heard a full raga from the alap unfolding the music to the extatic end on the radio back in the spring of 1981 when I was 16, nearly 17 years old. My first LP that I ever bought was by Muhammed Sharif Khan with raga Nur Ghara, and whenever I see a river (I live in the river delta of my beloved Kingdom of the Netherlands) I hear hindustani music in my mind and whenever I hear hindustani music I see a river in my mind I love European renaissance music very much (which had an important cradle in the Low Countries) but my first true deep love for music is for hindustani classical music. Sorry if I may have bothered you. Thank you kindly for your message.
