This is so beautiful! "A steady act of self-making"--yes! How very wonderful to witness part of Simone's journey to joy. Loved her discoveries, finding herself in a place of knowing and understanding the Hana charts, and her beautiful, calm confidence about fixing her sleeves. She knows. Gorgeous! xoxo

I deeply appreciated the depth of this podcast, the reflection on the making of a crafted object and the making of ourselves, or non-selves, depending on your spriritual path! Thank you.

What a great episode. Love hearing about Simone's making knitting journey. Your "philosophy" episodes have given me a new way of thinking about my knitting/making.

Thank you-- and thanks to Simone. It was a lovely exploration and conversation. As I integrate my knitting with my work, now in Italy, I am re-focused and centered, rather like 'being home,' when I have the time to knit. Perhaps that is another way to look at the process within our creating each project. We 'live' in them, in whatever place our minds and hearts are, at that time. As you spoke of the progression from innocence forward, each project is a mirror back to ourselves, in that moment of time.

Relate so much about your friend’s mom being a knitter. I also lost my mom 30 years ago and I wish I had any of her knits! I think of her knitting for me all the time while I knit, so her energy flows into all of my creations.

“Creativity is getting to know yourself” 🙌🏼 I feel as though I’m sitting in this now. My forties have become a knowing of sorts. And it’s interesting and fascinating. Such a beautiful episode. You wake up my heart and bring me joy so thank you, deeply, for that. ❤

Such a thoughtful, deep dive into the experience of knitting. I loved it when you compared it to Joseph Campbell's hero's journey.

    Jackie,
I loved viewing this episode of Jax & Rose so much. Especially the conversation you had with Simone about her knitting as it was so informative. What I mean by that, is you have this amazing way of asking questions that tease out the whats and whys in our making decisions that go beyond the surface. And that sweater Simone completed, the reveal was, Wow! Thank you for sharing and caring about your fellow knitters journey.💙

I ice dyed my Eun sweater and it is a vibrant orange, pink, purple and olive (sounds like a lot, but it’s actually subtle). People freak out when they see it. I have never had such a response. It made me feel quite thrilled, I am not going to lie. Needless to say the family members lined up to order. So there are more in my future. Thankfully they are a knit worthy clan - I actually do a lot of gifty goodness. This is also something I love to do. I am a life long maker and it permeates all aspects of my life. My thing has always been the journey of where I start and then where I end, which is never what I expected. I let the piece develop it’s own trajectory (does that sound crazy?). I have not been beyond chopping something up and making it into something else completely. I love it all.

Just a beautiful podcast and conversation. Thank you for this journey inside. It is so true about the voyage into ourselves that knitting invites us to experience. I myself had to 'put down the needles' in April due to a knitting related injury from making -- of all things--cables (if you could believe it!!). At first it was so difficult to live without the need to knit but then a strange thing happened...I turned my creativity into other areas of interest and then found it challenging to return to knitting. This I totally did not expect. I began looking for patterns to inspire me which always seemed to work in the past (my need for the 'material object' serving as the motivating force) but the knitting mojo failed to return. I then realized that something had 'switched' internally...that somehow I had grown. I have a new, almost 'reborn' enthusiasm for knitting, coming from a much purer place. I'm so excited for all you are doing Jackie and the way you are growing. So inspiring. I can't wait to join the Patreon and be part of the amazing community you are growing.🧶❤

I wonder how often “knitting experience ratings” put on patterns discourage knitters. My theory is - how do you gain that experience without knitting? I also think we bring skills and expertise to knitting that are relevant and we aren’t really aware will be a part of our knitting experience. I for one am so motivated by having the finished object that I have knit way beyond my experience level with satisfying results. It probably takes me longer - but who cares?! Thanks for another thought provoking episode!

I recognise the need for careful consideration before making as part of a knitting joirney. I've recently had a hysterectomy and currently not able to take HRT so my hormones and psychology is in flux. I'm on a journey now, maybe not back to myself before the operation but one of discovering in terms of who I am. I'm learning to be comfortable with this flux and that I'm looking for different things from my creative knitting practice. Currently I'm needing softness, comfort and lightness and the need to integrate that both internally and externally. Thank you for your insights and sharing and articulating them so beautifully 💖

Hi Jackie, thank you for this evocative, meaty podcast! I really enjoyed the interview and everything that you bring to the table. A heart felt, enormous thank you for the wonderful poem. Time stood still when you read the poem, it was like a calling and all my energy circuits and cells were magnetically draw to it. So that sent me down a David Whyte shaped rabbit hole which has and is filling me with wonder. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I just wondered if you are familiar with the Poet Rabindrinath Tagore? My favourite poem of his is called "The Beginning". If you 've not read it you have a treat in store. xx

I couldn't agree more about the Chelsea Yarns advent! Christina and RBM put so much thought and creativity into the theme and kit - it was a joy to open the cute little bags each day, and see the story unfolding. It was so much fun to follow along with the Coorie In poncho, a pattern I would never have been drawn to until I saw it on you and then Christina. So that was a happy advent story. I was surprised at much stress I've had with the other 2 kits I ordered. Every time I start a new project I feel compelled to see if I can work these minis in somehow, but so far it's either not enough or the color just doesn't work. .Thank you for speaking about this, because I thought it was just me!

Ancient cultures..Greek, Chinese, Hebrew had no word for blue. Many speculations as to why. Thought it would interest you as you love entomology of words.
