    Have to say I loved the Sg a lot. The les Paul was certainly no slouch, but the SG just had extra clarity and bite, more attitude imo. SG all the way for me!

    Love it! I didn’t know a ‘60s style pickups could do metal this well. It must be the amp that really metals it up!

      The 61 R/T are hotter pickups, at least in comparison to the Burstbucker 1/2. Even though they are unpotted pickups… they are still quite hot with a little bit of extra focus on the low and upper range. I personally prefer a more reserved pickup for metal (50s era I guess you would say). Those pickups don’t require you to adjust your amp to remove “Extra focused frequencies”. But it’s all down to personal preference of course. But the amp would “metal up” these pickups just the same as modern pickups. Cheers -Ryan

    Both guitars sound great and the playing is awesome. The SG is just a tad more evil spirit, gotta love it.

    SG is my first choice but the les paul is a close second. I started my guitar journey on an epiphone sg model to learn and play on, SG's will always be my number one

    The SG will sound like a better Les Paul with a simple bass knob turn.

      I got rid of my Les paul studio years ago because of the weight for a sg standard . The sg didnt really live up to the Les paul although its a beautifull guitar . I ended up buying a 2019 60s standard Les Paul . Love it . I did decide to keep the sg , but I keep it in open tuning for slide mostly .

    Very tight, badass tone. I like the subtle modulation too. Seems like the SG has more bite and pronounced articulation. I have two LP's. One should be an SG. I love both, I guess I'll be adding an SG at some point. Thanks for indicating the amps and for using different amps. Monster rock tone on these demos!

    Cool comparison, since the pickups are the same in both. The only differences will be due to the guitar, including the location of the pickups.

    I have both as well. The Les Paul is as heavy as a brick and the SG is just a bit easier to play.

    Thank you!, I have a SG Special and a "98" Limited Edition V. You are making both these guitars sound great, and I was glad to hear they had the same pickups as they sound very similar to me. I think I am after a SG Standard for my next guitar. 61 or modern, I will have to watch your other video again.

    Les Paul all day in standard tuning but SG for lower tunings. I’ve always said that Les Pauls can get muddy when you drop tune although I was surprised how it held up in this video. Good comparison

    I recently sold my R9 and with some of the funds I could get a Standard 61 SG or another 60’s Standard LP (already own one), so the choice was easy… got another LP. I hate neck dive and SG’s just feel weird af to me on a strap in general. Also I like the meatier tone of a LP, though I love that gnarlier tone an SG can get as well.
    Both guitars just scream RnR.

    Thanks for the video, same pickups for a quiet different sound like mentioned... that is very interesting because some people say that pick-ups matter a lot. But the wood and body shap matter a lot as well.
    I wanted a Kramer assault 220, change the pickups for the 57&57+ interested by the floyd rose... but now I'm thinking for a SG 61.. the both will be a great Christmas..👍

    Strange, listening through a old Avid Mbox3 via two KRK Rokit5s I found while you played clean the LP to be slight having more presence the the SG61 yet I noticed may said the opposite.But over all sound wise not a huge difference.sound wise.
    Thanks for the comparison I am fortunate to own 3 Gibson LPs, 1x 1977-8 STD I purchased in 1979 2nd hand and 2x 2021 50s STDs 1x with P90s the other with std 480 Humbuckers and have often wondered about the SG in comparison.

    do you use a noise suppressor or noise gate in your chain? Or is the power conditioner responsible for not having that hum sound that amps always put out. I'm trying to eliminate that noise i get in my recordings and was wondering how you do it!! Please let me know :) Great video by the way, trying to decide between the SG standard and the Les Paul Classic.

      If I am doing High Gain stuff then I'll use an MXR Smart Gate (Signal Chain is in the description for the video)... otherwise I don't use a Noise Gate or anything. Cheers -Ryan

    I have been watching all these comparison videos and it is the clean that counts. Distortion and crazy playing all sounds the same to me. Only my opinion. This is your videos and other videos.

    • @Crypticmaskguitar
      @Crypticmaskguitar  Рік тому

      For sure. There's a reason why I include the Cleans right away. It's certainly easier to discern some of the differences in a clean setting. To me it's usually the breakup tones that help me the most. These videos will never replace physically playing each guitar for yourself. But it's fun to make them and helps some people get excited about different guitars. Cheers -Ryan

    curious to hear a single note and compare the sustain on both. people saying les paul has more? whats your verdict?

    • @Crypticmaskguitar
      @Crypticmaskguitar  Рік тому +1

      Thicker Mahogany Body, capped with Maple... definitely gives it more sustain than the thinner carved Mahogany body on the SG. It's definitely a nice feature (Possibly one of the reasons why I have 14 Gibson Les Pauls...) but that doesn't necessarily discount the SG. But I hear that Nigel Tufnel is the expert on Sustain. Cheers -Ryan
