It's amazing how magical feeling these Artist Features become, it's more than just an amazing mix you've crafted, but an important look into the history of these underappreciated composers. It almost feels like watching/listening to a documentary crafted with such love and care, and of course when you get to have feedback or are able to talk to the composers themselves who give insight into what they've done, it just warms my heart. So yes this was a stellar mix on the phenomenal Barry Leitch! To think we almost didn't have him if he didn't give himself another chance at composing after his first gig, because Barry has earned his legendary status for what he's done alone on the C64 and Amiga, but he has so much to his legacy and what makes it so worthwhile to check out. Of course everything in his early home computer composing days I love, Super Cars was the first NES soundtrack of his I heard and listen to it consistently to this day, even with the harsher timbre limitations, I can't think of anyone that has made the NES sing like he has. And of course Top Gear is outstanding considering the rough (and short composing) time he actually had with it, but its good he knows how much his music has impacted others. And the DOS is such interesting machine with its soundcards and anytime a composer makes good tunes on it, I love it even more, and Barry did superb work on it. But of course his Amiga stuff is just brilliant, Utopia was among my first listens on that system and it has stuck with me ever since. And even with his short time at Ocean he crafted such significant tunes, that Sleepwalker track tugs at my heart so hard, its got that 90's VGM CD quality love to it, and of course working next to Dean Evans that's two greats in the same sound team that is bound to produce legendary music! Which makes sense Dean actually wrote most of EEK the Cat because that always sounded like his OST (yet he isn't even in the credits), but "Zoo" & "Flying Saucer" definitely feel like a Leitch style, I love the way they worked on that OST, such creative flair. But holy heck the bangers he made in the mid and late 90's is top notch, Upbeat tempos feels like Barry at his best, but all his orchestral stuff too he wrote in that time and his soundtracks in 2000's is top quality too! And it's great to see he still maintained consistent work with games and such into the 2000's, as is always my expectation when a composer slows down or switches positions in the industry or quit entirely. Even though a lot of stuff he made in that era I haven't listened to as much as his early stuff, it's still surprising quality with the PC/Web games, and dang Barry you didn't have to go all out on the Pixter, but it just shows the talent and passion he had to just push the sound to be as full as possible as you said, even with a device like that. But damn everything leading up to the end of the mix and that Horizon Chase tune with his post really gets to my core, while of course thankfully it wasn't his last work he did (and wow 30 years of work, how incredible), it really puts that reflection for all Composers and especially the ones we love, and the ones that do or will have there last OST and work in the industry and in general, and anytime VGM composers pass away even smaller known ones it gets to me because I hope they at one point realized the amazing work they still have brought even if it wasn't heard by many, the fact its out there to be heard and discovered is a reason I love VGM so much, and I'm happy as always you give these composers such a spotlight and respect to there careers because it's magical. Much love and respect to Barry Leitch, and thank you anosci as always for your dedication and great work on these! 💙💙💙
As a Brazilian I used to play a lot of Top Gear.. and I love the sound track, and Horizon Chase have also a great soundtrack.. fucking awesome.. Thanks for the video and also thanks Barry Leitch for all the great work!
Ok, that was an excellent use of my time. And he seems like such a nice guy! It's always great to see what composers think of their tunes over the years, and this guy certainly has a catalogue.
Of all the channels I've subscribed to in my 13 years of being on youtube, this is the most criminally under-watched. I love this channel and the content you make so much, it's ridiculous more people haven't seen it.
I am really glad to know that such channels as yours does exists! And to see it improving brings warmth to my heart! Good luck and great support in future. Это просто волшебно!
Well, I just want to say what a great video!!!! Huge respect to the editor of this video! This is something i feel has been not mentioned - there is some major excellent editing skills involved in putting this all together and no doubt some serious time spent. thank you and maximum kudos. This not only honors Barry Leitch the composer, but also many years of my childhood where i appreciated his tunes! - My only comment would be -would have preferred the popups were a bit more like the 90s chart show (only in uk??) which used the amiga! - (sometimes you even saw the mouse pointer!) - top work dude!
I love how I usually click on the videos for the music but just can't stop paying attention to the text and just enjoy them from start to finish. Thanks.
I'm so happy to see Barry here as a featured artist. My first exposure to his work was with Top Gear Rally and boy what an introduction that was for 5 year old me. Ultimately, that sole game's soundtrack has heavily influenced me as a composer. Great job GST!
These are mostly in genres I'm not into on platforms I didn't have, but wow, what a tour de force! Thank you for this feature and the introduction to an amazing musician. Looks like someone to add to the endless backlog! :D
Great retrospective! And I'm so glad you covered TFX - it's one of my all-time favorite game soundtracks that almost no one knows about. I even have a ripped copy of the CD soundtrack in my MP3 library. (Too bad the "more footage" link goes to a version playing the Sound Blaster soundtrack. It's not bad, but the MT-32 version is amazing.)
that's simply where I got the footage, as I didn't have time to play all of these games (especially on this video, which was already behind schedule!) I added a section to the description where you can check out the full soundtracks to the game featured here (if available lol)
Eek! The Cat didn't need to go as hard as it did... but Barry went above and beyond. And that in itself encapsulates how freaking wild his music can get.
Geeat piece of work. I loved hearing Barry's voice. That Scottish lilt is great. Supercars 2 is still something I listen to regularly as well as Impossamole - both clasics but you omitted them!?!?
I am so happy to see a new artist feature from this channel, and from one of my favorite composers, and TFX is on it, and just when I thought of skaven you mentioned him. That game really did llok like bookworm. Do skaven next? Who am I kidding, thank you!

I watched a trailer of horizon chase a few days ago because i read that it's one of the july ps+ games and i thought that they really nailed the style of the soundtrack and then i saw who was the composer...
Horizon Chase Turbo is a fantastic game and the soundtrack is nigh on perfect. Some other fantastic game scores on his CV. Microprose Soccer was a weird little catchy number that stuck with me and Emlyn Hughes was rousing and very suited to the game. Lotus on the Amiga - 1 and 2 were phenomenal, Top Gear was great etc, the guy's clearly very talented.
Interesting seeing that there are several fans of Top Gear's soundtrack from Brazil in these comments. There is a Brazillian UFC fighter who uses it as his walk out music
not quite! that was just a little joke / reference that I threw in! I actually had to change the time signature of the metroid tune to get it to fit. it's fun to do stuff like that sometimes though :P
8:04 "ok guys, never tell people who want to quit which companies are hiring, we can't lose other workers ok?" *Someone does* "Welp, guess we'll have to lose two people now" Gotta love companies logic.
Typing this at the ferrari f1 music and it's sounding like the awesome lotus turbo challenge soundtrack, lets see if it's the same guy.... EDIT: you didn't feature it but I just wiki'd it and it was Barry.
I just found the game that Eerie (Pixter ROM) song appeared in, it's from the Stair Fright game in Math Mansion.
Oh, nice! It was incredibly challenging to find anything about the Pixter games, so I'm happy to see more information rising today
Awesome! How did you find this out?

Barry Leitch, one of the greatest musicians ever
A trilha sonora de Top Gear é sensacional! Barry Leitch é quase um herói aqui no Brasil!
As a Brazilian I used to play a lot of Top Gear.. and I love the sound track, and Horizon Chase have also a great soundtrack.. fucking awesome.. Thanks for the video and also thanks Barry Leitch for all the great work!
Part DJ mix, part biography. This is an amazing series! Just stumbling upon it. Awesome work!
Music in TFX is a purest delight.
Absolutely. One of the best game soundtracks (almost) nobody knows about. it's been a favorite of mine since its release.
Love the added context to each track, and the transitions between tracks are so clean. Really well done.

Awesome, even though I need to catch up on what I missed. Still, it was great to hear Barry's work outside of the Top Gear games.
Barry pumping out banger after banger

Wow, what a great and cool way to present a vg musician's composing history. Super slick!
I love how I usually click on the videos for the music but just can't stop paying attention to the text and just enjoy them from start to finish. Thanks.
Well that explains why I liked the Pixter music so much as a kid!

Top Gear! THE soundtrack of my childhood!
Picked up that Horizon Chase game off the back of this video. It captures that style very well and the music fits perfectly, not bad for a tenner.
Incredible video and story. Such amazing work all around

Such an awesome series this. Maybe my absolute favourite on UA-cam. Love it.
Great to see Rush 2049 in the mix! I loved Barry Leitch's music! =D
Rush 2049's soundtrack has stuck in my head since I was a kid.

Dang, these mixes are so well done!
Utopia was the game I knew him from, truly amazing ost
Wow, haven't really delved into Barry's gameography but these are some pretty sick tunes, definitely gonna check more of his music
oh yeah, Top Gears music was super impactful on my brother and I. We loved that game so much
I LOVED his work in Top Gear, California Speed, and San Francisco Rush 2049. I could've sworn Top Gear was a hit in America though.
The top gear song is so iconic in Brazil that we have people doing covers for it without knowing it's from a snes game
Uou! Barry knew Skaven from Future Crew? Would love to know more about that!
Wait... He did this track for TFX? I never knew, I love that whole soundtrack.
I think he did most of the stuff in TFX, didn't he?
Daamn, I remember the Pixter. Good times.

What a banger of a finale!!!

i can feel Barry Leitch vibe in daft punk music !
I'm surprised to know Top Gear isn't much famous outside South America.
So Marauder is straight up lifted from John Carpenter's theme from Assault on Precinct 13 right?
Fucking Awesome
Top Gear is the best of his in my mind
so good!!
Why can't we find those Pixter songs anywhere? They're os catchy!
wtf, that 6:20 is used in metroid the boss fight as well
not quite! that was just a little joke / reference that I threw in!
I actually had to change the time signature of the metroid tune to get it to fit. it's fun to do stuff like that sometimes though :P
Oh you 😏
You can't have sharps in kids games because they might cut themselves.
While he's best known for Top Gear, Utopia is what I associate him with.
Wow, no kidding about it's existence. i can't find anything on age of tesla anywhere.

Can you do one show about brian johnston? He made the awesome hired guns tracks on the amiga
Didn't knew he made the ost for Slain: Back from Hell :O
he didn't. that was Curt victor Bryant from Celtic Frost.
I wrote an extra tune or two for it and did the sound effects. It's on my soundcloud page if you want to hear it

these great videos are only mared by your reluctance to switch genres. Not everyone likes dance techno.
The jazzy martin iveson feature is so good, give it a listen.
