Twi is not different from Bono 😅. People don’t even know “Twi” was the name of a BONO KING , NANA BAFFOUR TWI of the Bono Takyiman Kingdom 500years BEFORE the formation of Asante. Fantse (half that left) were a group of Bonos who left Takyiman to settle in the coastal areas of Ghana. Bono Twi is very conservative to other Twi dialects but it’s the mother of the Twi language. Bonos should be proud, most of the Akan culture and lifestyle originated from Bono kingdom. Fontomfrom, Adinkra symbols and most Akan abosom , the kings gold dressing and umbrellas are all relics of the Bono kingdom. Ask yourself before the establishment of Asante confederacy was there anything Asante Twi ? Answer is no, Akwamu ppl, Denkyira ppl all lived together with the Bonos in the height of the Bono kingdom, with migration , variations occurred in the dialects. People make it appear as is if Bono is some distant tribe bi, meanwhile they’re the first AKAN (first) to settle and establish an impactful kingdom in Ghana, they met the Guans only in the 11th century. Today when you use Adinkra symbols, understand that it originated from the Bonos l, the state sword (Akofena) in the kings palace and used during the wearing in of various presidents are all from Bono. The People of Adanwomase have confirmed they were sent to learn Nwentoma (Kente) from the Bonos in Bontouku. Bono people have made such a great impact, Nii Kwabena Bonnie, also known as Boycotthene , who was a pioneer to events leading to Ghana attaining independence was both Osu (Ga) chief and at the same time Oyokohene of Bono Takyiman m.
Wow, this is such a great insight. Thanks for sharing 🤝 my viewers and I would love to know more, is there any way we can get such education on camera?
Good comment... i made a comment similar to this. Bonoman or Bono is the father and mother of all Akan tribes. At first we were all Bono lol until break aways came. So i think its not even right to say most Akan culture originated from Bono, rather you're even right to say ALL Akan culture originates from Bono. Wholesale Manager i am Kwahu and Asante and you've said it all. I was learning about the history of the great Asante Empire and i realized its a relatively young empire and the Bono is the main, followed notably by the Denkyira and notably by the Asante in 1670 and it became the powerful, independent Asanteman in 1701... Reigned over all the Akan States till 1900 after many wars with the British and Other Akan tribes. It fell and was re-established. Bonos need to be real proud.
This is great! Thank you for sharing. My Uncle has told me this. Its a shame the Bono’s dont push to be at the forefront like the asantes. The asantes make everyone believe all things come from them. I think Bono should come forth to show Ghana and the world they are the genesis of Akanman, as the name states, diakanfu! The first in everything.

I think most people don't know this so so i will use your platform to educate... Bono Twi is the main Twi... The Bono people or Bono is the Father of all Akan tribes. What i mean is that, all the Akan tribes you know of today came out of the Bono directly and indirectly. At first all akans were just Bono and conflicts in leadership, wars, and so on led to the establishment of other Akan groups and their own dialect of Twi. As they move away from the Bonoman (Bono State) to form their own tribes they get influenced by other people they meet, they change few words so they can identify themselves from the others and that's what birthed the many other Akan tribes and the different dialects of Twi.
@@EfyaKimora mhmm I think you can read about the Bono state on Wikipedia that tells a brief history of how the Bono (at that time when you say Bono you were referring to all Akans, there was no Fante, Asante, Akyem…) settled in the old Ghana, Songhai and Mali empires and they revolted Islam and fought to reject Islam. I read and compared dates from different sources and I realized that if Sundiata Keita (Mansa Musa’s Great Uncle) was NOT a Muslim and it was during his time that the moors from Andalusia, Spain were penetrating West Africa with trade and Islam and Sundiata Keita’s rule ended in the 13th century then it makes sense to believe Islam enters West Africa in actively in the 13th to 15th century and gained more prominence when Mansa Musa and his people adopted it dearly. Per Encyclopedia Britannica Akans moved down from the Mali areas to a place on the border of present day Ivory Coast and Ghana (meaning the Bono people have been there for very long) from the 11th to 18th century which is around same time islam gained prominence in the Mali, Ghana and Songhai empires… that’s why it’s not surprising that Akans today are mainly Christians. The Europeans forced us to become Christians. And some Asantes are Muslims because they joined forces with the Dagombas or so… I am still learning but when you know where you come from and your history it helps. Spiritually you can tell where and how to communicate with your ancestors and what they may have sounded like or did:
