I’m not gonna lie I’m really bummed that Stargirl is done and I assume sooner or later that Superman & Lois will be canceled too and that will pretty much end this DC era on the CW. Hopefully HBO Max will carry the torch and we get some more good shows on there in the future.

I think Arrowverse gets all the credit, but The CW's WB slate was once a juggernaut for young adult female skewing shows like Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Supernatural etc. and those do extremely well on streaming even today. The CW's In The Dark and Gilmore Girls (originally from The WB) is actually ranked 5 and 4 on Nielsen's top 10 acquired show for Netflix this week which is funny because In The Dark was always on the verge of cancellation since season 1 from what i remember lol Pivoting away from WBTV and CBS programming was not surprising though. Nexstar would be paying CBS and WB for these shows now that they own the network when they can just fill it with cheap but reliable syndication and local news.
10 years of the Arrowverse. Respect Something that hasn't been acknowledged is how this universe inspired many youtube channels. Mostly for reactions and deep entertainment analyses. The arrowverse was key for them to make content positive, negative and hate watching shows. These channels will definitely feel it's absent. (Especially the last ones).
While the quility of the Arrowverse was very hit and miss towards the end. I will look back at it fondly. Because it actually existed. At WB/DC's current rate it would take them over a century to cover even a fraction of the characters and storylines that the Arrowverse brought to screen. There was alot of very creative and talented people working on those shows that had to work wonders with a tv budget. Unfortunately CW's influence on the writters and eventually the writers themselves played a big part in the Arrowverse's decline. Each show became just another CW melodrama show that happened to feature some DC characters. It grew very tiresome to follow. So half of me would support the decision to end the Arrowverse. But the other half of me believes something is better than nothing.
Most CW shows, not just the Arrowverse, were and are gold. Even back in the Charmed and Gilmore Girls days, I knew girls to identified as a "WB girl." And who didn't love KidsWB? I'm looking forward to the future DC shows on HBO.
The comic book market isn't like in the US in my country, so for me, the CW was like reading a new comic every week. Supergirl on monday, Flash on tuesday, Legends on wednesday and Arrow on thursday. Great times man
Superman & Lois is the only remaining question mark. I can't imagine Gotham Knights will return for a second season. S&L seems to be a more expensive than normal show, and while I like it, it doesn't exactly generate massive ratings for the network like Arrow and The Flash did in its heyday. I have a feeling it will get axed after season 3.
The Arrowverse shows all seemed to suffer the same thing. The first couple of seasons were good then they progressively go down in quality. Arrow S1 and S2 remain some of my all time favorite tv. Just so good. The Flash has remained fun for the most part. Legends didn't take itself seriously so that is what made that show ok. Supergirl was horrible. Bat Woman even worse. Superman and Lois has its good points, but it isn't my cup of tea. I think its a solid 3/5 at best. So yeah.. the CW has been dying for a while and honestly I'd be ok if all DC tv just got cancelled. What with the movies getting more love (in words at least) I wouldn't mind. Now if the DC starts doing more streaming like shows for lesser known characters that are in the movie universe, similar to how Marvel is doing it on Disney +, I'd be all for that. But as it is.. the CW can die. It had a good run.
One thing I liked about the Arrowverse in particular was the focus on less well known characters. The fact that we had characters like Black Lightning, Star Girl, The Atom, Captain Cold, Vibe, Killer Frost, Mon-El, etc that were able to be featured (even Green Arrow was not exactly well known to the general public) was kind of incredible.
I will always look back at The CW DCTV Arrowverse shows fondly. So sad that The Arrowverse and DCTV as we all knew it on The CW and The DCTV Universe on The CW is ending it had a great run but all good things must come to a end. Despite some of the shows shortcomings like The Arrowverse I enjoyed the shows well most of them. NextStar all they want to turn the new CW into something it has not ever been basically a news network with fewer scripted shows etc. I don't know going forward it that is a good idea honestly.
Yll should watch stargirl man it's a wonderful show criminally underrated it's the best female led show on tv rn no politics it's just a comic booky dc introducing dc characters I never thought we would even get in live action fricking ULTRA HUMANITE is on the show bro its insane.
One of the reasons some people might not watch Stargirl is because the characters are teenagers in high school even though the actors/actresses are actual adults. I like Stargirl & will finish watching the show in December.
I will always have fond memories of the Arrowverse. From finally being convinced to start watching the shows since I was only watching SHIELD in terms of comic-book related shows until I started the Arrowverse shows. It was fun catching up and just being there for the each show. I loved the crossovers, especially Crisis on Infinite Earths. I think Legends ended up shining as the best of all of them with the cast they had and it was disappointing that they kept cutting roles because the core cast was great but every new addition just worked well for the show. If Superman and Lois ends up ending next year I think I will always look back on the good and the bad that came with each series and how awesome the connected universe was.
The Arrowverse was real pulpy fun. Not always good, but always very sincere in their attempts. The Flash has always been my favorite and I have stuck with it because I like the cast so much, particularly the group of OG's like Grant, Tom, Danielle, Carlos, Jesse, Candice etc... Legends lost my interest after season 4 and I stopped following once they dumped Brandon Routh. Supergirl I never really followed consistently, but I loved Melissa Benoist in the role. Chyler Leigh and David Harewood were also really good. Never really followed Black Lightning apart from his role in the crossovers. Arrow was pretty great in the first two seasons but it fell away quickly after that once they turned it into a miserable soap fest. Season 4 was particularly awful. Season 5 and Season 8 were resurgences but generally, the show peaked early. Same is true for the Flash I guess but my preference for the cast of the Flash even let me enjoy some of the lesser seasons. The only Flash season I truly disliked was season 7. Batwoman was promising but they should have just done a simple recast of Kate Kane because the show took an entire season to pivot from a Kate Kane centered show to Ryan Wilder centered show and the audience had left by then. Unfortunately, for me, while I think Javicia is a much better actress, the compelling part of the show was always the sister relationship between Kate and Alice/Beth. Once they lost that, they lost the heart of the show and it never recovered for me.
I think one of the main reasons is the new heads of DC Gunn & co, I think they want access to some of these characters or at least the option to use them on their DCU
Nexstar the new majority owner of the CW cares about rating. All of the shows on the CW get under 1 million viewers. I believe all of the DC TV shows will be gone from the CW next fall. Some shows might continue on a streaming service such as HBO Max. I believe Winchester, Walker, & Walker Independence do stand a chance at continuing on the CW or on HBO Max. I am glad that John is still talking about the CW Network.
With how long it’s been going and the fact that the overall reputation for the Arrowverse got kinda soured over the years this seemed like a long time coming, for whatever reason the only Arrowverse shows I watched were Flash and Legends Of Tomorrow (Well only the first season cause I ended up not really liking it) And it’s interesting because much like SpongeBob Flash is in kind of a unique situation with me, where even though by this point the bad seasons greatly outnumber the good ones I loved the early good eras of these shows so much that I still remember both of these shows fondly, and I always thought that the idea for the CW Arrowverse was a very interesting one, taking DC characters and putting them into more of a young adult kind of environment, and I thought they did a really good job with that kind of tone, I found it to be very charming, I do think that as we move into DC now doing stuff with HBO MAX the DC shows we’re gonna be getting from here on out are gonna be a lot darker and more serious, which I think will be a neat little change up after all this time but I’ll always look back on the Arrowverse as an interesting little 7 year long experiment for DC
What happened to the other female talking person that was on this show the last time I watched it maybe 6 months ago? Her reading skills were unsurpassed. Not saying the current such person can’t, just wondering what happened to her.
I think only Superman & Lois has the possibility of getting renewed and that's an IF. The other no DC shows left are Walker, Walker: Independence, Kung Fu, Gotham, and the new Family Law that's a Canadian based show starring Jewel Staite and Victor Garber that airs every Sunday at 8 pm. You also have Tom Welling-Brendan Fraser's "Professionals" shot during Covid 2 years prior which I feel won't see season 2 as Welling is going to recur as Samuel Campbell in The Winchesters series. Winchesters will that get renewed like Superman & Lois is a bubble show where it's a toss up between renewal and cancellation. Also Gotham which hasn't even aired will be a 13 episode or less and will fade away after one season lol.
Hi John I wanted to say that it seems that all super hero shows are going to be ending soon or later because of the ratings on cw 11 some of us are fans of super hero shows and films we need super heroes in our lives for our kids and family 👪
Hope they get back to sitcoms, tired of all these hour-long teen shows that reminded me of MTV days when they were starting out and phasing out their music videos.
Arrow was awesome! That show made green arrow relevant. The flash was good too and so was supergirl, her first season only lol. The rest of those shows were ok, could have been better.
