Red Wings was the legendary bodysurfer here in Hawaii who perfected the hand boards back in the day,I think they were called Handguns.He was known for body surfing Waimea and huge Rock Piles. He tragically ended his life on Jan 28/98 the day of the Code Black swell.Eddie champion Luke Shepardson's father Mark carries on the tradition of fabricating and using hand boards.
At 5:10 that's the nightmare. The few times I got caught bad like that I thought I was going to drown. And I had been freediving my whole life basically (since like 9.) Older brothers help get you into cool shit. (Pre-flotation days. So cool people have that now.)

Back in the 70's ,we used to fabricate our own hand boards in school at shop class,out of plexyglass and surgical tubing
