My friend and I got caught inside BAD in like a 20ft set and we were riding small step ups. I bailed and swam under. My buddy tried to duck dive and it ripped the leash plug right out of his board with the foam and everything lol. We ended up boogie boarding in on one board 😂😭. Duck diving big waves is definitely an art. Interesting
i always remember day dreaming to myself back then and still to this day that this is what doheney would look like and be if it was constantly that big lol
I have never surfed anything close to this but that gives me chills knowing he ducked a wave that big. That confidence in your abilities is absolutely necessary to surf these waves, that's why I never got close to waves like this. Nevertheless, bailing is almost always a bad idea, unless you're a real man or a real woman surfing waves of consequence.
this is sick but can someone please explain me why they all drop in on each other? Like is it ok to do it in big wave surfing for some reason? I thought only beginners do that thing...
More people go for the same wave cause a lot of them aren’t gonna actually get in the wave, but if more than one person does get on the wave it’s dangerous to bail because then you can end up over the falls, the board could hit the other surfer, etc. it’s worse to not commit, you want to keep control of yourself and the board. Also plenty of room on the bigger waves haha
Your channel with the best surfing videos. What bothers me is that you see a lot of wrong choices by high wave surfers. 20-30 feet deep from the correct location of the break. Clicks culture or lack of experience or just stupidity... I don't know, but it's disturbing.
I dont understand? Sometimes we push through, other times we get caught in a spot where ya cant push through. He was in the right spot. Anywhere else he would've been over the falls. Right spot, right time. Its not some untouchable super feat. Is this another one of them armchair surfer things wondering how we surf? Fair enough. That next left was awesome.
Lotta ego in this comment. Were you out there? I didn’t see you paddle for any of these monstrosities. It’s certainly not the same as duckdiving your home break. Weird comment man.
That guy Jeff Clark surf Mavericks for was it 15 years by himself well his buddies set up on the cliff looking on is that true if so he is One of the gods of this world like the gods from the Greeks and Roman times obviously
Pretty cool seeing Nate Diaz go from the cage to Surfing Mavs.

That 2 wave hold down was insane, I always think like what if you surface and gasp for air the exact moment of next impact.. you’re dead.
That does happen ✔

The day Andy passed..❤️🔥
Why don't you let the scene run longer, I want to see the guy pop up after the hold down and get rescued. That's telling the whole story.
Watch the whole video. They point him out when he makes it through.
He gets rescued by the ski. He didn't want to talk about it for years after.
Good shit👍
Stoked, thank you 🙏
With all that experience dude went for the first wave in the set and didn't catch it at Mavs😮

so nuts! I think Auggie's math is a little off....I think he would have been 27 or 28 in 2010. Either way, so crazy!
Good point
Two wave holdown stud
Scary
@@PowerlinesProductions Yeah for sure!!
That’s not a duck dive, that’s a torpedo dive. Dude is Gnar. Raspect
Ryan in great shape then, and now! He’s ready out there ✅
Mistimed and you’re entering a world of pain.
Yam could be some serious consequences if you don't pull it

Duck dive or bail? It's a really easy decision for me. Regret paddling out as I drown.
Commitment……🫡🫡
Pitted. So pitted.
Something like that

Not an armchair anything here. Actual facts in a story that needed clarification for the people.
Does anyone go left these days?
YA, a handful of guys are always looking or going!
He was a little late on any kind of dive.
Timed it just right!
looks a bit mushy
Uh, if that's sarcastic then haha. If not, it was hollow on the reef! Just a little onshore wind but still throwing!
@@PowerlinesProductions i still can't get out back on a 3 ft day , great clip thanks powelines, x
