Steph's expression at 0:05 is priceless as Mr clumsy wacks the device into his precious table top.
I bought a Commlite about 6 months ago and have been very impressed with the performance on my A6500. I do not use any Nikon lenses over 200mm since I find it does have problems focusing.
Matt, any update info for 2020 on new devices like these adapters?
Yes please!
@@AR-ko2wp me too
Me three!! AR 7 IV
Me four . Sony A7RIV
me 5
This is encouraging, providing another check mark for Nikon shooters contemplating moving to a Sony platform
would like to see an update with a7iii and some tamron and sigma glass to.I know sigma and tamron are going to start making lens in the e mount and a good adapter would be more coast effective than having the mounts switched or re buying lens's.
The hunting and slow focus performance reminds me of the early Metabones adaptors using Canon lenses on Sony bodies.
Thanks for the updated edition of the F to E mount. I watched your 2015 review of the first Commlite review and now Version 6 seems to be night and day in comparison. Thanks for the professional style of the review and not no head bashing format is not too little or too hard but just the facts. Great show.
What I am really interested to know is how well does it video follow focus, how well and smooth is it, would love to see you make a video of that.
Any chance u tried Tamron n Sigma Nikon mount lenses with adapters?
i wish i had your sense of optimism.
i had a basketball game shooting via sonya a7iii + viltrox nf-e1 adapter + nikon 70 200 f 2.8 lens. results was super good. but i had to shoot all photos on single shot mode. cause i cannot find how to track focusing. it's tracking focus but when i press shutter release button it stops tracikng and locking focus. while basketball player running on hi+ mode first and second photo is on focus, others are out of focus...is there anyone hwo knows about this issue? thank you so much..
I bought the manual adapter a few years back for my Nikon lenses on my A6000 because the auto-focus units were far more expensive the performance wasn't very good. Good to see they now have useable performance for auto-focus and metering functions. I may have to get one. :-)
You should have a look at the Viltrox NF-E1 for Nikon glass as it's £129 compared to £320. I have it and it performs decent on the Nikkor 24-70 but in certain situations it really does hunt for the subject
The Monster Nikon F tro sony E autofocus adapter with the new version 6 firmware is working pretty good for me.
Hi! Any chance for an update video? Thank you!
Can I use Tamron Nikon lenses with these adapters?
Do they work on AF-C mode where Phase Detection is used as opposed to the Contrast Detect in AF-S mode?
This video was super helpful to me...I am a Nikon DSLR guy and am about to go Sony Mirrorless and was cringing about losing some of my lenses.
Thanks so much 🙏 Wonderful . Exactly what I was looking into . Just bought a A7 Sony . Own a few Nikon Lenses .
Older Women Rock which mount did you go to?
How was the autofocus work you think ?
Another great content review Matt, on these adapters are they usable on 3rd party lenses like Tamron, Sigma and Tokina Nikon mount
I have an idea for a new video. Test which one works with lens Vr and test out 3rd party lenses i.e. Sigma and tamron (nikon mounts)
That would help us a lot on which one to buy
I agree. In addition, I'd like to see adapters for using my Nikon/Sigma/Tamron lenses on the Fujifilm cameras so I be able to use AF.
I second this. My Tamron 24-70 is my most used lens.
Yes !!!! please ! been looking for a test on Tamron 70-200 g2 !
It will vary lens by lens, let alone manufacturer. The different adapters list out dozens and they work differently with different lenses (some contrast, others phase etc), so I cannot test all. So I hope the 24-70 70-200 and 85mm are of broad use.
I have a couple FF Nikon's and a Sony a6300 for $hits and giggles. Just got the Commlite Pro adapter. My 24-70 VR and Tamron 45VC both work on the a6300. That said I've heard that it may not play well with Sony's with IBIS.
Matt, good review; but honestly seeing the camera hunt back and forth to get focus lock of a high contrast static target in perfect lighting just makes me feel adapters would be BS in real world situations. QED: Go native glass or go home.
I guess go home since there's no native 200MM F/2 for Sony.
I would have liked to see how the autofocus speed compared to a Sony lens, and also maybe the Nikons on a Nikon body.
Dziękuję Ci za test. Właśnie tego potrzebowałem.
I was wondering about video focus tracking with these adapters...
Is it work well?
Have you tried this with the Sigma art lenses Nikon Mounts?
THank you for your suggestions!
None of these adapters seem to be available anymore, unless there's a used one on Ebay.
Thanks for the video Matt! Btw I just bought the photodiox today. Then I notice there seems to be a problem with the nikkor 105 f2.8 😬. Even the company website says not to adapt that lens.
Matt please try updating all three adapters to the latest firmware. Also instead of testing only AF-S (or what Sony calls AF-S) could you also test AF-C? The reason being, if I am focusing on the eyes the subject may move around a bit (toward or away from me). Also, a big point of using Nikon lenses on Sony is to do videos better, can you test how well subjects are in focus with video footages? Could you also test with the cheapest A7iii camera? Other cameras are a bit out of budget unless we rent.
Do the autofocus work on videos with any of there lenses?
@@ett17tit89 I have the commlite and a 50mm f/1.4 G. AF when recording video does not work at all. Latest firmware V08
this vid is over a year old. Any updates?
can i use the Nikon 200-500mm for sony ? i will be using for video is that good ????
a really helpfull comparison would be one with the nikon adapter and nikon & third party (sigma and tamron) glas against the metabones and sigma mc 11 adapter and canon & third party (sigma and tamron) glas.
Great Timing Matt! I was looking for an update from you on this Nikon f to Sony Bodies. I need an opinion from a person who tested these 3 side by side.
Hey Mat, any idea whether this adapter supports Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Nikon mount lens to Sony a7iii Model?
Could you PLEASE try the 105mm 1.4 And tell us the results in a Comment ??? Plzzzzzz Matt 🙏🏻
thank you for this educational video! needed this
Just the video I was look for.. question is it safe for the lenses?
2024 - Does a Nikon 200-500 mm fit a SONY A7IV with all the functionalities ?
Thanks. I give up with confidence after viewing your review.
Can it take AF-D lenses?
Great video. Can you make video in regards to shooting with video?
that is also my request
I have a sneaking suspicion a lot of the AF hunting could be solved by getting it close in manual, then using auto to double check.
The only reason i would buy one of these is to shoot manual nikon lenses on my a6500 for the vintage look but the best body for Nikon lenses is a d850 or d5. I cant imagine using my 200-500 with a tiny little mirrorless body unless it was locked down on a tripod, the small mirrorless bodys make using large telephotos almost impossible and nikons bodys fit perfectly in the hand allowing you to stabilise the rig hand held or on a monopod.
Jeff, totally agree. My Nikon 300mm f2.8 AF-S and Nikon 500mm f4 AF-I ,work well with my Nikon D3S and Nikon D3. The big bodies work well with my big hands . I cannot use a small body camera.
nice info i will buy the commlite adapter for my nikon lenses for sonyA7iii camera
Great Video! I am having an AF-D 80-200 lens and I really want my A7II to know the focal length I am using so that the IBIS can be turned on. Do you know if data of the focal length are transferred to the camera such that IBIS can recognize the focal length I am using?
Hi Matt, do these adapters work on the VR and the aperture controll ??? Thanks a lot
Can we use it for wildlife photography?!
By any chanced have you gotten hold of the Monster LA-FE2 adapter? Supposed to support nikon screw drive lenses!!! I never upgraded to the Z system as my favourite portrait lenses were the 105mm & 135mm DC screw drive lenses
Dear Matt, is there any adapter fot Nikon F mount lenses to Sony A7R5 E mount body?
Hi Thanks for the video, So which is the first, second and worst adapter in quality? Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the comparison, I’ve been waiting a long time for something like this. It would be good to know however how they perform on older E-mount cameras like the A7S?
Great vidéo
Hi Matt, could you do a video of the Top 5 lenses of all time with 3D Pop = high micro contrast = dimensionality regarles of mount)?
Will these work with F mount third party lenses from Tamron or Sigma?
Nice to see the tests, like your assistant
Just started watching - I tried the Fotodiox one only to return it because on focus hunting.
I love watching your videos. They have helped me a lot.I have Nikon camera and i purchased Nikon macro lenses .But for video the auto focusing on Nikon is very slow and i have seen good reviews about Sony cameras i was wondering if i buy a Sony camera will my Nikon lenses auto focus would work for videos.Thank you in advance.
Cual es mejor de los tres ?
cool video, i can also change de aperture settings, from the camera to ???
It's good to see the adapters are coming along even if they are all the same. 🙂 Thanks, Matt.
thanx 4 the content Mates, hi in this 5 years did something changed? I love my nikon 10.5 as well as my sony a6600, bach in time i've boght an adaptor manual, is something changed now? did 5 years happen to be usefull in creating an efficient autofocus adapter from nikon lens to sony e-mount? Thanx again, Max
I got a macro lens that is FX mount for my Sony A6000 E mount, which adapter do I need?
Will the adapter work on my a5100 for a nikon 70-300mm lens?
what about focusing on video shooting?
Hi Matt, I just got a Metabones that is completely manual as I cant afford the autofocus model (Nearly $600 AUD!!!) Youre right, Im going to wait a couple more years. As I want it mainly to use a Macro Lens on my Sony without coffing up $1300 AUD for the Sony Macro 90mm Lens I am using My Sigma Macro 90-200 mm and its not bad. (I always need to manually focus Macro Images anyway.) Will maybe try the Commlite next year but am hesitant as there is no support for it in Aus. Maybe Ill wait till B & H can recommend something better than they stock. Shall keep on watching.RegardsAnna RysImageExcelens
Thabks for the timely update Matt! Did you use VR on any of the tests? Any comments on that. Thanks very much!
“I have a tamaron xr diii af 18-200mm 3.5-6.3 (if) macro a14 for nikon. What lens converter should I use for my sony a6500 camera? ”
Hello I saw there was a problem with adapter/lens combo - Nikon AF-S VR Micro 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED + Fotodiox Nikon to Sony E Mount FUSION adapter - IS THIS FIX?...I just bought a a7R II camera and I saw two photographers, their cameras stopped working ... please, I would like to be sure that that will not happen!!!!
/// i have nikon 35mm f2d // nikon 50mm f1.4d / and the 105 macro
Hey you two.... Thanks for the upload! Great Job!!
Thank you for this video ! What about the Metabones SpeedBooster adapter for Nikon ?
I have the 24-70 2.8, 70-200 2.8 and 85 1.4 all g nikon lenes. What's the best and quickest focus one for sony a7riii
is it work with sony a6400 on tamron(nikon) 70-200mm 2.8 G2 lens
Very good analysis.
thank you!! I would like to know ..do you have any loss of quality on the photos due to the adaptor?
el enfoque continuo funciona para video??
Hi, so what was a conclusion? It is not as fast shooting with sony and nikon lenses with adapter as it would be with original nikon camera but still you can use it on sony?
How about a video shoot with this adapter?
Hi.. wanted to know if Viltrox NF-E1 Nikon F to Sony E Mount Adapter works on sony a7iii body and nikon 200-500 mm lens
Badly need that adopter 😭
im realy interested now im a a7riv user but only having the 200-600 here in the uk winter dark /dull days i was thinking 300f2.8 which sony dont have nikon f mount would be a lot cheaper a lot of them second hand
her facial reaction in the beginning haha :P
Matt, thank you for this video. I appreciate it my man 👍🏼
Thanks Matt for the awesome review. Is it usable for video works? Also can you test it out on the latest a6400?
Which adaptor would you recommend for Nikon 200mm f2 on a Sony a9 for sports like American football or Soccer.
How about using Nikon APSC lens on Sony A7R III ? Will there be any reduction in resolution? Appreciate of your responses. Thanks in advance
can i use the nikon 105mm 1.4 with a adapter on my a7iii?
Really useful thanks. But I would have loved to see the test for portraits using the Nikon 105mm 1.4G in AF-C and some post test pixel peeping for eye sharpness. Otherwise my only option may be to purchase the new E-Mount Sigma 105mm 1.4 when it's released.
Hi matt d you know if either the bells or the complete make nikon 1 to Sony adapters aswell I've got a nikon 1 j1 and tlooking too invest in some Sony 35mm,50mm, andv85mmglass
Thanks for the video! What about VR though? Does that work on an adapter on a Sony?
Funciona para un lente Sigma art montura f a una sony a6400?
Went to get the Commlite (version 06) for my Sony A7II. huge disappointment. The first one didn't work at all. The store found another. It worked well with my Nikon 85 mm f/1.8. Didn't work at all with my Nikon 50 mm f/1.4. I lost it, sold all my Nikon lenses at the shop and walked out with a Tamron 28-75 mm f/2.8. I'll be using e-mount stuff from now on. Will miss the 50 mm though. It's been a good, reliable friend for years.
Does anyone have experience with the new Monster Adapter LA-FE1? - it appears to be mostly working - AF, eye and face detection etc - based on very limited information that B&H has tested this some and it's functional on the most common NIkkor or widely used lenses - 70-200 VRII , 85 MM 1.4G etc etc
thank you for the info
Still waiting for Sigma MC-11 for nikon mount.
we are still waiting in 2020
Great comparison!
I tested it and bring home today. Works well. 😘
i have the commlite en-pro edition mount on my a7rii but on my 24-70 nikon sometime the auto focus does not work and the eye focus does not work
I'm reading on the internet that they aren't useful with VR lenses, in backlight situations and that they eat a lot of battery. Did you experimented something similar?
Ok, as this is Sony E mount, will these adaptors work with the Sony NEX EA50 video camera?
Insert internet troll's favorite comment for this type of test: SO MATT ARE YOU NOW GONNA MAKE THE SWITCH FROM NIKON TO SONY SO YOU CAN KEEP USING YOUR NIKON GLASS?!?!!?
Kidding, but you know someone will ask that! LOL
