I loved the national since the first time I listened to them cause of the drum beat, I got amazed with him technique and feeling. I think the National without that drummer could be another kind of band. Love him

I've probably seen the National perform live more than any other band. The sound mixing has always been top notch. Whether it's been in a small club in Madison, WI or at Pitchfork in Chicago, or the Riverside in Milwaukee; the sound had always been perfect.
"I see you in stations and on invitations You'd fall into rivers with friends on the weekends Innocent skies above Carin at the liquor store, I can't wait to see you" top notch.
I couldn't listen it to the end untill I've found live performances. Studio record sounds bland, I don't know why; I'm a huuuuuge fan of The National. Live versions of new songs are brilliant.
I have been listening to these guys since the Sad Songs For Dirty Lovers album in 2003 and have only had the privilege to see them live twice. I just say to everyone that loves this band and has not seen them live, please pay up and go see them whenever wherever you can. I suggest a venue not a festival. Regardless these guys live will change the way you have ever experienced a live show. Pure bliss.
Nobody Else Will Be There - epic.. THE song that got me into The National.. only to discover so many other gems. But this one... just cuts to the core.. love this song.
The National are my favorite band to come out since the 90's. With that said, this new album didn't grab me right off the bat and I thought they may have lost a little something. But on my 3rd or 4th listen I finally "got it"!! It's great! Can't wait to see this live.
I was gifted two free tickets to see The National live in Cork this Saturday night after over a month of desperately searching for tickets to the sold out gig. Nothing can hinder my mood tonight as I watch this video in anticipation. Sorry for gloating about my ridiculous luck but I had to share.
I watched this when it was streamed live on FB originally. Day I Die stood out to me then. I must have listened to terrible quality versions of the songs off the new album 1000s of times over the last month's since then. The album still stands up to my expectations now it's finally available in studio recorded glory! I am truly grateful I get to experience The National.
I’m cool with not dressing UP for a show- but at least put on a clean shirt . I hate it when musicians go out of their way to prove they aren’t slaves to fashion- which ironically makes them slaves to fashion !
@@TharpaD You probably haven't seen the other videos of live shows. Matt usually dresses up for them, and this one is an exception rather than the rule.
Well, they may be very basic but this is by far the freshest and most original bamd I've heard in a long time, I really enjoy them a lot and the best thing is that none of my friends recommended them or probably even know them
The drummer's shirt, I always forget I'm from the same city. Really great. I'm not sure I appreciated them enough until watching this video. Thank you.
This performance is their best. Holy crap it's so professional. Here are musicians - their timing is perfect, what a sound. Kudos to Pitchfork for this quality production too.
These guys are seriously talented! Everything they've done to date is just amazing! I'm very sad that I won't be able to make their two shows in Vancouver, Canada. I missed the announcement of the two shows which is my own fault but unfortunately they are sold out. I have looked at ticket prices online for scalpers and they are reaching up to the $300 mark for 1 ticket. Of course I would pay that but I'm hoping in the new year to see the national headlining a festival in the north west. If they do I am going! I saw them at Sasquatch 2014 and they were the best act at the festival and I hope they play it again!
The first time I heard Sleep Well Beast I was taken back to the first time I heard Dark Side of the Moon, Life’s Rich Pageant and Joshua Tree (totally blown away).
It is me or Walk it back sounds 100 times better live than in the album? I did not like the album version at all and this one is pretty good, clearer and more hipnotic.
I have to agree, ive been watching live videos of them performing Walk It Back since last summer, and it became the most anticipated song for me. The album cut is great, but falls a little flat at the end. The added vocal sample is fantastic and really adds something to build into or collapse through but this studio version just dosnt push or pull the way the live version does...
I agree also. The second half of the song is completely flat on the album. I love the song in general, but the live version is more melodic and definitely shines
Bryan Devendorf is the tastiest drummer on the scene right now...like a modern day Ringo....complete with the George Martin "wallet on the drum head" deadened Abbey Road drum sound. Damn do I love his playing....its as close to perfect as it gets in pop music.
their new stuff is good but look at the crowd faces during apartment story. like recognizing an old friend across the street. the song that got me hooked at this band as well.
The most underated drummer of all time.
InstaBlaster.
Terrible Love might be up there with my favorite drum beats ever. 10/10 drummer
I loved the national since the first time I listened to them cause of the drum beat, I got amazed with him technique and feeling. I think the National without that drummer could be another kind of band.
Love him
Fk yea
John Jerry Garcia Lennon? Yeah dudes sick
0:32 - Nobody Else Will Be There
4:53 - Day I Die
9:35 - Matt discusses his coffeepot of wine
10:02 - Walk It Back
16:25 - The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness
20:48 - Guilty Party
26:48 - Carin At the Liquor Store
30:36 - Apartment Story
34:29 - Daughters of the Soho Riots
39:20 - Sleep Well Beast
46:48 - Fake Empire
51:35 - Terrible Love
56:21 - Turtleneck
thanks dude

Who ever mixed this is a god...at least the way it sounds in my headphones
I know right? Unreal.
yes, really good - different from many concerts heard on Yt
birdekid saw the same the set in DC 1 1/2 years ago. Changed my life!
The perfection of a studio recording in a live setting. Heavenly.
I've probably seen the National perform live more than any other band. The sound mixing has always been top notch. Whether it's been in a small club in Madison, WI or at Pitchfork in Chicago, or the Riverside in Milwaukee; the sound had always been perfect.
"I see you in stations and on invitations
You'd fall into rivers with friends on the weekends
Innocent skies above
Carin at the liquor store, I can't wait to see you"
top notch.
I love this moment in album's life. The songs are relatively unknown, the band is vulnerable, every beat played as intended... i love it.
Carin at the Liquor Store is one of the most beautiful songs they have performed, riff is so crystalline. A really good album, thanks The National
I couldn't listen it to the end untill I've found live performances. Studio record sounds bland, I don't know why; I'm a huuuuuge fan of The National. Live versions of new songs are brilliant.
Agreed, Juan. An amazing tune, best track on the new album in my opinion.
Matt singing with that member of the crowd during The System... made me grin so much - so much passion from both!
Legit. Biggest smile on my face seeing that.
The most complete band I've ever heard in my 53 years on this planet.superb.
Apartment Story is my favorite The National song. The way Matt sang it here is pure perfection. My favorite live version!

Thank You for giving us the incredible opportunity of hearing such a masterpiece by the National
What a concert. Amazing sound quality too. Walk it Back sounds incredible
The National are my favorite band to come out since the 90's. With that said, this new album didn't grab me right off the bat and I thought they may have lost a little something. But on my 3rd or 4th listen I finally "got it"!! It's great! Can't wait to see this live.
Their music is a lot cheaper than therapy. "Carin At The Liquor Store" one of their best ballads ever.
And american mary
American mary too
Dark Side of the Gym - although not played here might be one of their greatest songs yet , thank you for SWB- what a record
Agree. Such a brilliant track.
That track is such a sleeper. I hardly ever reach for it directly, but I've found myself humming it a whole lot.
Aiur y
Definitely one of their best.
Totally agree!! For some reason Dark Side of the Gym is kind of underrated, for me one of the best tracks.. it seems Roxy Music for me.
The National's latest album is truly amazing. The title cut is the most amazing song I have ever heard.
Wow, the Devendorfs never cease to amaze me! So tight! Specially in "Walk it back"!
I love how well you can hear the brass section. I think these guys are putting out some of their best work to date.
I was gifted two free tickets to see The National live in Cork this Saturday night after over a month of desperately searching for tickets to the sold out gig. Nothing can hinder my mood tonight as I watch this video in anticipation. Sorry for gloating about my ridiculous luck but I had to share.
Ryan Price didn't you hear they had to cancel? Jk. Enjoy the show. Vegas 2018!
haha cheers man it'll be worth the wait!
How was the show Ryan?
so good man! They played for two hours and were joined by Justin Vernon and Lisa Hannigan on stage. Matt was in his element. Sublime!
I watched this when it was streamed live on FB originally.
Day I Die stood out to me then. I must have listened to terrible quality versions of the songs off the new album 1000s of times over the last month's since then. The album still stands up to my expectations now it's finally available in studio recorded glory!

The System Only Dreams In Total Darkness....wow
Love this band. Bless them and long may they create and prosper.
Anything to do with The National and Pitchfork will be top shelf.
Kudos to the audio mixing! This is mixed wonderfully!
Why does Matt look like tech support?
haahaahahahaahaa
Power went out, so he has to fix the system in total darkness.
I’m cool with not dressing UP for a show- but at least put on a clean shirt . I hate it when musicians go out of their way to prove they aren’t slaves to fashion- which ironically makes them slaves to fashion !
@@TharpaD His shirt is dirty? He's wearing a solid color polo. Pretty ordinary.
@@TharpaD You probably haven't seen the other videos of live shows. Matt usually dresses up for them, and this one is an exception rather than the rule.
no one reaches embroiders melodies with the guitar like these guys... superlative performance!
Well, they may be very basic but this is by far the freshest and most original bamd I've heard in a long time, I really enjoy them a lot and the best thing is that none of my friends recommended them or probably even know them
just discover this band this week, and im totally fascinated !!
Their musicianship is unparalleled (and so underappreciated)!
A very long time ago I thought the Beatles were the best band ever. Then, BLUR. Now I do know it is The National.
Nah for me it's still the beatles
I simply love you guys - The National and Pitchfork for this video.
"Walk it Back' I already heard it at least 50 times a special tune indeed...omhh I only take up a little of the collapsing space...respect, respect
MIC DROP
Mic pick up and sweetly say thanks a lot
ically fang I totally noticed that, too. So well mannered...lol
i havent favorited a video on youtube in years
Sammy Serhan me neither... that's a good idea.
The intensity of System Only Dream is off the scale
The drummer's shirt, I always forget I'm from the same city. Really great. I'm not sure I appreciated them enough until watching this video. Thank you.
This performance is their best. Holy crap it's so professional. Here are musicians - their timing is perfect, what a sound.
Kudos to Pitchfork for this quality production too.
it's finally back
Walk It Back is infinitely better live. While I like the album version, it lacks the punch that the live version provides.
Still waiting for their Eau Claire performance in 2015 to be posted somewhere, it was the best show I've ever seen.
These guys are seriously talented! Everything they've done to date is just amazing! I'm very sad that I won't be able to make their two shows in Vancouver, Canada. i just got my tickets to see them in Australia. Thanks for coming back :)
Big smile from start tot finish. I love this band.
Merveilleux groupe que j'ai découvertRécemment et dont je ne cesse de me procurer les albums ..
I agree, just such great drumming, vocals and allround musicianship
Amazing, thank you! I love the new album, but I've found I enjoy every song live even more!
The 2nd part of walk it back is overwhelming
While the band creates inspired sound clouds, Matt grabs a smoke at 42:02. Fantastic!
It is me or Walk it back sounds 100 times better live than in the album? I did not like the album version at all and this one is pretty good, clearer and more hipnotic.

David Marco Ruiz totally agree with all of the above, and the performance here is great!
These songs sound superior to the studio versions. Especially Guilty Party!! Very disappointed with the new album.
it does right!!
This rendition of Walk It Back is beautiful.
Shout out to Jon Low on sound... great work!
11:18 Bryan Devendorf, man. holy shit.
Good drummers make everything else sound good without always being particularly noticeably. Like salt in food!
Bryan Devendorf is the tastiest drummer on the scene right now...like a modern day Ringo....complete with the George Martin "wallet on the drum head" deadened Abbey Road drum sound. Damn do I love his playing....its as close to perfect as it gets in pop music.
No kidding!
No kidding!
He's effortlessly good.
No words! No, one: STUNNING!!!!! ❤
So excited for Sydney!
This version of walk it back is the most beautiful shit I’ve ever heard.
... and what about Sleep Well Beast! outstanding!
Went to a Richard Hawley gig in Belgium a few years a go, also heard that "Tarzan voice" in the crowd!!, brilliant band, brilliant music.
Booked my tickets for London - Cannot wait!! :)
mas que showzão da porra!!!
como é que system ficou tão maravilhosa ao vivo e daughters ainda me faz chorar?
I swear, anything to do with Pitchfork is amazing quality.
And, of course The National.
This needs to be on dvd or cd!!
This is music with great emotion...
Omg these guys are the shit. Just discovering them this year. Feels good bro's.
Best national I’ve ever heard!
Wonderful!!!!
Who the f did dislike this beautiful beautiful video? :/
Love it so so so so sooooooooooooooooooo much
Amazing. Thank you
goosebumps the whole way through. Damn these guys are talented.
i wanna see them live so badly!
their new album fucked me up
especially guilty party & walk it back.
Really? THE Guy Fieri? You rock!
And how about the title cut? Crap, it is otherworldy.
It has blown me away!!
I like to listen to it eating a knuckle sandwich, wearing major bling, in Ferndale, CA. Money, Off the Hook.
sad dad band
...and the best one out there.
Sarah Barbary is that David foster wallace?
no, just not poppy fluff pops. One of the best musical bands out there.
Apartment Story sounds sooooo much better live!!!
Guilty Party Is LEGIT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Finding it hard not to listen to this everyday...I can't stay...
Walk it back!! Amazing gig! Pls come to Taiwan!!
ok guy losing his mind rocking out so hard the whole time in the front slamming his hands on stage with the beard will you marry me?
You guys are so awesome.. drinking night listening to the National
What a beautiful show! Really sad I "didn't go" x
oooohhh yeah I love this Band!
This mix is GOAT
Masterpiece!
Simply Amazing !
The National - making smaller bands like us feel insecure since 2001. Ha.
Neil Peart- makes u feel like a shitty drummer since 1970
Amo esta banda...
The National: one of the few bands that has to take attendance before every song😆
Next Monday Dublin Vicar Street gonna be EPIC. That is all.
They sound great.
Amazing!
man that version of day i die is really tough, lots of joy division vibes in there. really cold and dark
So much better than the album version (which is a genius one)❤
Guilty party sounds like heaven
daughters of the soho riots fake empire and apartment story. what a treat!
their new stuff is good but look at the crowd faces during apartment story. like recognizing an old friend across the street. the song that got me hooked at this band as well.
It's it's own reward I would imagine🎉
Goosebumps dawg
God, I love this...
That purrfact guitar!❤️
Fake Emipre...incredible version!!!!
