I hold national park horror close to my heart. I’m personally working on creating a creature that lives in national parks. It steals the vocal cords of animals to lead larger predators towards it by mimicking noises.
I remember hearing that if you encounter a wendigo, according to legend, you just ignore it. aggressively ignore it. Like they will come up around you, and even sit at the campfire with you, but your life depends on you trying to avoid eye-contact (with the empty eye sockets), and NEVER talk to it, even and especially if it talks to you. Like you should never even shout at it to go away, it will just leave on its own if you keep acting like it isn't there. You also shouldn't take anything it offers or offer it anything.
My theory on it, from remembering what I heard is that they were humans who became like animals, but they lost touch with their humanity and became empty with their hunger for power. I know there are some cultures who have stories of humans who choose to become beast-like in order to gain power over another, just as there are beast who act like humans to gain trust and cooperation. This is due to the cultural view that everything, from the jaguars to the humans to the spirits and the forest itself, all have selfhood and will, and can be civil, but when one act savage and beast-like they can gain control by diminishing your selfhood and elevate their own. Therefore by ignoring the attempts of the wendigo to diminish your selfhood, by causing you to fear them or petty them, you remind them of that civil humanity they have discarded, and refuse to feed into their exertion of will, their manipulation of power which they craved so much it made them hollow inside. And so they leave, as they know who there is the "self" and who is the "it", and therefore who has lost the power the wendigo craves.
@@Slipperybag66 idk. I did a paper on the anthropologist who made the whole ecology of selves concept with cultural beliefs of werejaguars (known as Runa-Puma) because that's just how anthropology degrees work (It was from "How Forests Think" by Eduardo Kohn). Even though that research was from the Upper Amazon, and the wendigo are more a north USA-South Canada belief, considering there was precolonial trade routes that went from the Upper Amazon half way up into Canada, it isn't too wild an assumption that the same ecology of selves and man becoming beast/ beast becoming man cultural concepts/ logic/ beliefs coukd have been spread that far, especially when shamans even closer to middle Canada have/ had similar beliefs that are/ were used in practices. For example Skinwalkers, which more historically had use the same human-becoming-beast practice (but controlled, and used for a justified reason, by putting on the skin of an animal) in the same way that a SWAT person wears gear to help them elevate their power over another, making them more of a self than the one getting swatted (seen more as a target, an "it", than a person, a "self"). So it was just the typing it up after applying that logic to the story of the wendigo that took actual time. As for this explanation, it did take me longer because I had to look up how far up the skinwalker belief is on a map. I am not too knowledgeable of the layout of the USA.
Something I haven't seen be mentioned here is that with the Dyier Corp introduction, when the camera man is by himself at the camp after getting separated from the soldiers, another voice says "Hey" but nothing is attached to it, meaning it was probably a Walker
It’s weird to me that the number 45 pops up a lot during the video… Wendigo runs up to 45 mph… Walkers are 12-45ft tall… 45-45-10 rule of the cave dweller venom… I’m only 33 minutes in so there may be more I’ve missed, but I feel that number showing up a lot is no coincidence…
I think it’s really funny how whenever they say “this creature normally tends to do this certain thing” it proceeds to break away its usual behavior and try to attack them
I love the characters, not only are they relatable and more human they actually act it out so well expressing realistic emotion they are also clearly likable and not a complete predictable op mary sue, they are more genuine and human, and its awesome!
Funny to think that the camerman in an analog horror universe is not always immune to death. Usually cameraman are typically immortal god who can fly, survive natural disasters and breathe in space lmao
Well, the whole immortal camera men is only kept to third-person films/series, where the cameraman isn't an actual character in the movie, but a deity above the mortal realm. In films/series with character camera men, they may be better at staying alive because viewers need something to see, but they usually die.
One thing that is implied is that wendigos aren't isolated within the park. Real Wendigo folklore has the legend throughout multiple parts of North America. However the park May be a "hotspot" for the wendigos. Just my theory, being part Native American helps

I gotta say i LOVE how they all acted, i hope to see more of these because it feels very real idk, even with the tactical team and their gun handling, the way they moved etc was still believable, but especially its one of the first times i actually felt the fear of an ongoing life or death situations, the only moments where something felt out of place were the "Ooo im tryna hide here but ill keep my flashlight on". And apart from the acting i love the ranger characters, they give me this vibe of being very good hearted people who are being put into this situation and are doing the best they can, especially when they/one of them helped Nancy stay safe and away from these whole ordeal for the sake of the children the best and only way they could (With their power). (Edit: what i meant with "the first time i felt the fear of an ongoing situation" i mean in any other analog horror i watched, i think i mentioned this because its always cut to static but this time we get to see the danger)
I agree with you on most of the stuff except the "tactical team" I can understand the super cringey communication and tactics but... I mean they could've gottem some cheap airsoft gear and at least tried to not make that much noise. Not the slightest amount of effort to look semi-professional. The weird russian accent that the "expert tracker" had was unnecessary. They look more like my uncle hunting deer or teens playing airsoft than anything else.
The cameraman in the most dangerous situations, stressed as hell, confused as heck, almost fainting, tired as hell and having a stroke always survives, but that one cameraman fresh like a flower after a slow rain, young, healthy, kind and everything positive you can think of ALWAYS dies. Can you explain me how it works?
In universe reason, They are stressed because they survive. and if you are too naive you wont last. Meta Reason, The stressed one brings more Entertainment value by Barely surviving, The happy one brings more entertainment value by Immediately dying. Same as how if someone talks about retiring soon, or about their loving family, they are going to die in a movie.
@Friedbananan ah yes because being bitten, driven to insanity, and losing all brain function yet still being alive is a mild sentence compared to instant death by big dude or being ripped apart by a literal demon, it's almost like the (slightly) more plausible thing was scarier because there's a way to make it make sense. If you don't agree, cool, but don't be a sarcastic dipstick
it makes analog horror infinitely less scary if you imagine how they set it up. “ok, just cut the tent a bit with these scissors-aaaand throw some fake blood in there…”
I was still super impressed and excited about the way the Wendigo looked through the hole in the tent though! I wasn’t scared so much as I was like “OOOOOHH!!”

He’s standing right there and you can’t even see him is good horror logic. The amount of times someone has told me there’s someone behind me. It’s always a foreboding feeling no matter who it is.
WELL THIS ANALOG HORROR SERIES IS SO AMAZING THAT THEY ALREADY RELEASE A ANOTHER TAPE THAT IS THE LONGEST TAPE OF ALL TIMES. And maybe you have to comeback to this amazing series because that will be cool
What they mean by "he's standing right there" is that on their TikTok they explain that there are creatures pretending to be trees. What they mean is possibly that the tree in the photo wasn't there before, or it's out of place, hence the meaning "he's standing right there". For more explanation these creatures take forms of trees, so if your in the park and see a tree that wasn't there before/an out of place tree, it's not a tree.
It a walker, and if you need a explanation the rng says the skin color is so black that it absorbs the night light so it makes it impossible to see it with the naked eye but it could be the tree monster thing idk
I’m a folklorist, and I grew up very close to one of the largest reservations in the US. I’ve already said this many times before: _the wendigo is not beastly._ I don’t know where the whole animal-skull-head imagery came from, but it’s a load of malarkey. It has always, _always_ been described to me as a pale, extremely emaciated human. Nothing more, nothing less. The wendigo itself isn’t even a physical entity - it’s a spirit of unquenchable hunger that possesses a human (traditionally those who resort to cannibalism in times of famine). I mean, why would a spirit that craves _human flesh_ want to wear a deer skull as a hat?
It was just something hollywood conned because it was "scarier"...not even trying to be accurate (typical hollywood). Sadly, most who didn't know any better thought that's what Wendigo's look like, and it spread fast to the point most believe it; only those experienced in the tales know what it really looks like and acts like, or those who've taken the time to actually research them.
@@fairyfoxey9438 the most accurate depiction I’ve seen in media (so far) is the Wendigo from _Until Dawn_ because - surprise, surprise - the developers actually made the effort to consulted Native American folklorists. Personally, I think it’s a lot scarier than whatever that deer head thing is. It’s not a beast; it’s a human, just like you and I, who succumbed to the most primal manifestation of greed. The Wendigo embodies and reflects human selfishness, the ceaseless desire for _more_ regardless of who is hurt in the process. Indigenous folklore emphasizes reciprocity/natural balance. The entire point of Wendigo Sickness is a lesson to never take more than what you need. The mining crew in _Until Dawn_ not only became possessed as a consequence of starvation, but they also act as an allegory for the greed inherent to mining. Taking from the Earth and providing nothing in return begets punishment.
I think the version with the deer skull is actually scarier, and seems more mysterious. Personally, when there are multiple interpretations of a cryptid, I headcannon it so they are different entities/creatures that are misidentified.
@@Gun_Flint it may be more mysterious and fit the classical aesthetic of a western cryptid, but I still view it as a disrespectful interpretation. Stripping the Wendigo of its humanistic aspects also strips away the _meaning_ of it as a manifestation of greed and selfishness; an antithetical to the cultural and religious beliefs of reciprocity/balance. The very fulcrum of indigenous folklore and creatures are the lessons embedded within - they wouldn’t exist otherwise.
Imagine filming the walker attack, like a few people just shaking the tent about in a studio while there’s a guy with a camera in there just flailing about and screaming

I don't blame you for brushing off John's death since you didn't look into it too much but later videos that were recorded BEFORE his death but published after by John and both Steve and Alex always looked up to John since he had worked there so long, also, I love the idea of Walkers since when paired up with a Wendigo, it is a horrifying duo since you would have to listen to the radio for when its near but the radio (it makes noise, duh) would attract the Wendigo. Edit: SOME of the later videos were recorded by John
About the cave critters, I think Marcus was the one killed in the video, but he had already infected at least one other person. That person turned 6 months later, and that's the one they had to take out.
The video's are for newer park rangers to know what to do. Also, all of these videos are on record 100 years after the first cave critter sightings. Meaning this park has been under wraps for awhile. Also they most likely only stay because they're in too deep and being a ranger is safer because most of the creatures appear to be non-hostile except Wendigo. (Walker defended itself or was guarding it's territory and cave critters live in seclusion.) These beings are basically just wild animals but much more deadly.
That is interesting how walkers are only a problem if you arent in a designated camping area, that seems to be inline with why in the walker video the ranger says to ignore the static if you dont hear ranger ranger back bc its a walker rather than to gtfo bc its a walker.
@@SemicolonExpected walkers themselves seem to be similar to hippo's, highly aggressive but only if you enter their turf. Otherwise they're docile. Both are highly dangerous but only if you don't take precautions. Walkers are only threatening because you can't see them.
Those Cave Crawlers bite must change change the person who’s bitten Genetics, meaning 45% chance to kill them (from the change to a humans genetics could cause a irreversible damage that can kill them), 45% chance to change them (meaning the person’s DNA perfectly changed, without them dying), and the 10% is either from the lack of whatever they inject into their victims OR some people have a natural immunity to it, or even if the Crawler’s bite injection just decayed before they could finish.
39:09 it’s really wild how cases of the Cave Critter Disease are so rare, the last one occurred before the park rangers in charge now were even born. It’s like, imagine being a young groundskeeper for New York City’s Central Park, and finding out that someone who went to the Central Park Zoo may have caught the fucking Bubonic Plague from one of the exhibits there. My reaction would also be “WHAT? What the HELL??”
Anyone realize Walkers act and are described like siren head. Walkers : Siren head Invisible Hidden (Due to it looking like a tree) 45 ft : 40-45 ft Both Produces radio waves as signals and language. edit: If I'm correct siren head and wendigoes are cryptid's too so it kinda makes sense.
Walkers have a hole with roots in them in the middle I think it’s a mouth with octopus like roots to grab and eat prey and the same for the brachs which grab.
At first, I was really glad that they were covering the indigenous origins of the wendigo! Then, I saw the picture of the creature. In actual lore, wendigos are similar in appearance to that of a skinwalker, and I do have my own theories, but that's not the point. They are malicious fae with the ability to induce cannibalistic tendancies towards the people near them. I think that maybe, they might feast just as much on fear as they do flesh, for their hunger is neverending, but eh. They're skinny, pale, fur-less, and definitely trigger the uncanny valley. Glad they got something right, though!!
while i agree with your comment, i will say you describing as 'fae' is a bit.. odd? can't say that's ever come across before in all my reading about mythology (which is a lot cause Special Interest lol) As someone else mentioned, I'd say wendigos are more akin to a spirit of somekind than a fae creature
Wendigo aren’t fae lol. Fae is from European lore. The Wendigo in the common lore is a human who committed “an act of selfishness”(aka cannibalism or some other form of greedy action) & are cursed to forever hunger, eventually morphing into the monster Wendi’s are known to be. Sometimes Wendigo are described as being little more than evil mountain spirits that corrupt people into committing such heinous acts of avarice. As for the deer skull wendigo/ the movie wendigo, I believe that the deer skull wendigo could be plausible as maybe a wendi could’ve killed and eviscerated a deer, not only for its flesh but to use its skull for whatever reason. Whether it be for camouflage or intimidation or protection is unknowable but I think if they have a basic level of intelligence they could know to equip things in their vicinity, especially if mimicry is one of their skills.
I mean, we know it's illogical, especially if they don't turn off their lights or stop making noise, but it is instinct to seek a safe place, and the safest place nearby is a temporary home, something to cover you from sight. It might even work if the other steps were taken, but a tent is definitely just a candy wrapper for a monster.
They had a time machine to bring back uniforms that did not exist in 1975. The Special Unit had no LBE or extra magazines for the Air-Soft AK. Next time contact Triple Tap for a properly equipped team to hunt down Preditaors or Wendigos.
The mercenaries shown in the video (cameraman too) we’re wearing ACU which wasn’t produced until the mid to late 2000’s. At least someone other than me noticed it.

By far the best analog horror I’ve seen (of the few I have seen) just love the ideas of the creatures and the idea of the forest and how he rangers act. I feel like this could be expanded into more, into so many things, books, games, or just more of this analog, I love this one! May be awhile before I go camping though, like a VERY long time 😅
I feel like the wendigo thing of “don’t run just back away slowly” is to give some sense of safety to park goers to alleviate worries of encountering a seemingly singular entity. I don’t think they’re actively feeding guests to the creatures that live in the park
51:47 “Showing the monster makes the terror disappear right?” ~ ZeeMyth “showing the monster” gets rid of the feeling that someone is watching you and chasing you but you dont know it
I think the reason both guys ran in the first tape and ignored their own advice was because it was a decision made out of fear, because even if you have the knowledge about what to do, you may still result to running. It might have also been the first time the ranger has actually seen a wendigo and it caused him to panic as his reaction.
i think that the whole "back up slowly" is BS, and the rangers know it damn well; bc Alex knew that to survive he only had to be faster then john; i think a wendigo acts like a wild animal: if it sees an oppostiìunity to attack it'll take it Plus i'm pretty sure that whoever is in the high positions is tryna downplay this whole entity thing, they're trying to make the pepole think that the entities are WAY less dangerous then they actually are (plus giving them a false sense of safety) bc to be honest i think that pepole still visit bc they think that IF the park was too dangerous they would've closed it alredy
Hopefully they add more, this kinda reminds me of SCP where the creatures are contained and are kept secret though I also get serpents hand vibes since the creatures are out in the open and not in cells.
To be fair, there are a lot of SCP anomalies that the Foundation can't effectively or feasibly contain conventionally, so they settle on keeping it to an easily-secluded area that they can keep the public off in order to maintain the Veil of normalcy. The Serpent's Hand on the other hand, is more about working with intelligent (mostly humanoid) anomalies and protecting them from other parties.
@@elienidsanchez6612 there are two Wendigo SCP's. Scp 1471 and SCP 323 one is a skull and the other can't be killed. Plus if the SCP foundation can't kill SCP 4666 I highly doubt it could kill something that can run up to 45 miles.
The heavy breathing coming from the scared out-of-his-mind cameraman has the same effect on the viewer as scary music does in a horror film. It tells the viewer that they are getting closer to something scary and dangerous. Good job, cameraman! I'll bet that you had NO idea that you had also contributed to the audio of this film, in such a way that added so much meaning to what they were facing.
The way they act contributes SO MUCH. Humans are social animals so seeing another human freak the hell out tells us something is not only wrong but also stressing out your friend, making you worry.

It looks like these videos were probably really fun to put together. The acting was really well done, and so were the effects. I was just thinking that making everything look right was probably a challenge.
Theory: the windigos and the walkers are past victims of campers, staff, and rangers that lost their lives either from another windigo or from the person in control/dyier corp and the cameraman is a cross platform physical being that can take control/listen to other cameras that are descovered.
the wendigo part: I think the reason why they ran, even though they said not to, is because they were already spotted. And you could only follow the steps to survived from a wendigo, is if it doesn't know you are there, that why you would slowly back away to not make any sounds.
This is one of my favorite series. It doesn't completely just focus on scary pictures and creatures, it focuses on the process of getting to the scary stuff which is also done beautifully.
I take back my comment about the acting at the end of the video. After reading your comments I realized the scared/nervousness acting really does align well with the characters and make sense. 😀👍

I really wanna work in national parks as a ranger lol istg if you make a vocal chord stealing thoughtform & it gets me I’ll remember this comment 🙄💀
Sorry but not very original
I remember hearing that if you encounter a wendigo, according to legend, you just ignore it. aggressively ignore it. Like they will come up around you, and even sit at the campfire with you, but your life depends on you trying to avoid eye-contact (with the empty eye sockets), and NEVER talk to it, even and especially if it talks to you. Like you should never even shout at it to go away, it will just leave on its own if you keep acting like it isn't there. You also shouldn't take anything it offers or offer it anything.
I thought wendigos were just wild "animals" that are always starving, not that they were chill like that 💀
They're Humana who fell to their greed and cannibalistic tendencies
@@BlazeNStar How much time did you spend on this??
Damn, I did not notice that

In some depictions wendigos are able mimic human speech so it could have been the wendigo speaking to our beloved cameraman

How to survive analog horror: NEVER volunteer to be a camera operator for shady stuff!

For more explanation these creatures take forms of trees, so if your in the park and see a tree that wasn't there before/an out of place tree, it's not a tree.
thanks for the explanation
Ohh!!! That makes more sense, thank you!
Lol I came from TikTok
It a walker, and if you need a explanation the rng says the skin color is so black that it absorbs the night light so it makes it impossible to see it with the naked eye but it could be the tree monster thing idk
Yeah I watched that TikTok. I’m not sure why this wasn’t mentioned in the video.
Unfortunately it is just Hollywood ruining things as usual
And another guy is shoving the Wendigo skull puppet/cgi rig in the hole and wiggling his hand around

(Walker defended itself or was guarding it's territory and cave critters live in seclusion.)
These beings are basically just wild animals but much more deadly.
That is interesting how walkers are only a problem if you arent in a designated camping area, that seems to be inline with why in the walker video the ranger says to ignore the static if you dont hear ranger ranger back bc its a walker rather than to gtfo bc its a walker.

Honestly i prefer the massive necro-deer interpretation.
I don't think fae is the right word, just a spirit. I believe fae are creatures in English/Irish folklore
while i agree with your comment, i will say you describing as 'fae' is a bit.. odd? can't say that's ever come across before in all my reading about mythology (which is a lot cause Special Interest lol) As someone else mentioned, I'd say wendigos are more akin to a spirit of somekind than a fae creature
Like the ones from the,"Until Dawn" game?

I love that already 2 people in separate videos just immediately thought it was ok to lock themselves in the tent making them more vulnerable

Hell yea! Love their team and their mascot Blorb!
It looks like these videos were probably really fun to put together. The acting was really well done, and so were the effects. I was just thinking that making everything look right was probably a challenge.
True
Love this analog horror❤
23:00 [Applause] while the Wendigo screams 😂
What do you mean applause Is this like an attempt to get likes or something Or is there something that I don't know Sorry I see it now
@@kathypinedo9811the subtitles say applause to translate the wendigos scream
ok
Theory: the windigos and the walkers are past victims of campers, staff, and rangers that lost their lives either from another windigo or from the person in control/dyier corp and the cameraman is a cross platform physical being that can take control/listen to other cameras that are descovered.
the wendigo part: I think the reason why they ran, even though they said not to, is because they were already spotted. And you could only follow the steps to survived from a wendigo, is if it doesn't know you are there, that why you would slowly back away to not make any sounds.
I like how the park rangers seem to be standing in front of the habitat of the monster they talk about 😂 30:07

This is one of my favorite series. It doesn't completely just focus on scary pictures and creatures, it focuses on the process of getting to the scary stuff which is also done beautifully.

Love how the captions say Applause
It's so freaking well made.
