And death is the most important part of the lessons. Understanding the finality of death changed how and who I spend my time with and teaches u what's important. People always want to get pets with little little kids and by the time the pet dies the kid is still too young to totally understand and appreciate the life lesson there. And if death isn't something u want a child to learn then I always tell people with little kids, it's all fun and games till it dies and u have a serious lesson to teach a kid that is too young to understand still by that time.

They don't need to understand the full meaning right away they are kids, it's a little too much to expect children to understand something so complex as life and death as they should be enjoying life and not thinking too much on this subject. You can explain in more detail when they're older.

Then started going in & out on their own. I'd have considered getting a padlock but I'm pretty sure Grandma would have just taught them to pick locks. Or poked me until I did it.

I am always shocked by all the "OMG, so cute" comments on these videos. Allowing a dog (any dog) to sleep in your baby/toddlers space, letting your kids push, pull legs/tails, approach sleeping dogs, handle food is a monumentally bad idea...it's how children get bit...kids and dogs can be great together but there needs to be boundaries, especially when children are very young,...signed 25+ year veteran of rescue, animal welfare and shelter management.
