I have been using a 2 bay Synology NAS for about 12 years and love it. I am on my second unit and about to retire it and install my third. My use is mostly for backups of all my computers but it can do a lot more. Map a network drive to it and use it just like a local drive. The included software is great and has a lot of functionality. The hardware is not always cutting edge like some other brands but it work well.
Hello, does it backup the Pictures on my iPhone to the Synology as folders the same way they are on my iPhone by any chance or it will put them all in one Big Folder unorganized ? Thank you
What concerns me as someone who wants to have access to this gear when I am the other side of the world is the security and configuring it to ward off hackers.
best video yet.. i watched alot about this specific model, because i want a bigger storage instead of another harddrive messing with my workspace.. the only question i have is, when it is running, is it very noisy or more quiet?
So playing the devil's advocate; one of the biggest if not the biggest pros on the "Cloud" is that saving locally at home and mirroring to the cloud meant that in the event of a home fire or a "cloud" fire your data was safe in the other location. You partially address this by setting up another NAS somewhere else, which assumes you have people you trust.
You were snapping in a few extra circuit boards and quickly brushed over it, as if I was familiar with what they were for, and if they have to be bought separately from the main unit.
Hello, I have a question about cloud storage devices like Synology NAS storage. The question is: As it is known, Google provides 15 GB of storage space for Gmail / Google Drive, etc. The problem is that 15 GB is not enough, and the subscription is expensive. So, if I buy an external device like Synology NAS storage, can I transfer Gmail storage to an external device? Can I use it as a primary storage instead of Google's storage? I hope the question is clear.
I wrote alot to explain you. I don't know if you saw it but UA-cam deleted it I don't know know why. I can't post links. Just search Synology Gmail back or Synology Google photos backup. There are tons of videos explain it nicely. Good luck.
See it like this; Synology NAS will be your Google cloud, photos Dropbox everything. You don't need Google anymore once you sync with synology. It automatically just like Google.
Dont Get this one The problem With Synology is the technical support one of the worst I ever experience now I'm afraid should I use this drive because if I ever need a tech-support and I'm not gonna find it on UA-cam, I have no where to go should I just return the unit and buy something else because I don't trust Synology
What about us Apple people??? Is the Synology ok for iMacs and iPhones? I’ve also got a windows laptop for business so can the Synology do Apple and Windows???
Folks check the cost on this bare bones it’s very expensive. Of course if you need this type of device I’m sure it’s great but maxed out as demonstrated super expensive
@@SteveDOESWill this system work with my Mac Computers? Will it let me use my Mac Photos library and the Mac TV app that has all my movies stored in it already like my Photos library so I do not have to reorganize e everything into a new system and then have to learn how to use another system. Plus I use Apple TVs. So I want to be able to stream my content (movies & photos) with my Apple TVs still

Haven't you thought to create your own NAS with TrueNAS or unraid?
my first was a DS21j in feb 2011 ! the went to a DS916+ and a few months ago the DS923+ landed. This is a really useful video
Good intro to NAS. I look forward to you presenting details of how you setup the remote NAS to provide off-site, secure backup.
I’ve always been meaning to do this. Great vid!
are there any advantages to adding 4 8tb drives to a 4 bay nas over adding 2 16tb drives and leaving 2 bays open in case you need more space later?
Great vid! I’ve wanted to get a NAS a long time now. Only the cost have hold me back. 🙁
Could please you make a video showing how to upload GoPro video files or any type of footage to your NAS.

It long thanks man!! I'm getting one!! Wish it was longer

So glad to find your channel...very helpful info, new sub
Thanks Andrew

Can the synology NAS be connected to my wireless network?
Yes, it can. And be acessed remotely from anywhere.
Great video, very informative.
Is the model compatible with SSD?

Can you please provide me the guide how to do that?

This means no worries about storage space for Gmail or Google Drive
?
Is the RAM and SSD needed for this to operate or is it optional and it just makes the server better?
It’s optional
Can I add 2 x Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500GB PCIe NVMe M.2 (2280) in place of Synology NVMe M.2?
no. only synology brand.
Unless you modify it with root, you can only use non approved M.2 NVMe for cache, you'll just get a warning message.
I though it was recommaned to install the NAS first and after that upgrade the ram etc.
Awesome video
This was super helpful
Great video! Thank you!
Thank you!
Great video thank you! Now I must be missing something bc $350 for only 16GB doesn’t make sense? (I opened the website while watching this vid)
Can you wear it was Apple products as well

It is worth mentioning in case of fire/flood/theft all your photos will be gone. You need offsite backup as well.
He did mention that!
Thanks more toys oh boy

Guaranteed if he had to pay for all this equipment, he wouldnt....much less having 2....
Try Jellyfin instead of Plex
Too complicated. The struggle is real with jellyfin. Well for me at least.
Nah dawg plex is better especially those plexamp *Chiefkiss*
Way over my head on this one. I’ll stick with iCloud and Shutterfly and Amazon Photos.
It's not that difficult. You just have to put some effort into learning how it works. Synology makes the entire process super easy.
Don't get started learning this stuff. Once you do, you won't stop.
Folks check the cost on this bare bones it’s very expensive. Of course if you need this type of device I’m sure it’s great but maxed out as demonstrated super expensive
Yes this is a very expensive setup! A 2 bay NAS is ideal for most people.
Also I mentioned at the beginning of the video, Synology sent it all out.
terramaster makes a 5 bay that $500ish. you don’t have to use the OEM OS. take out the internal USB and you can put TrueNAS or Proxmox on it.
@@destronger5313Are you saying you can use a different Operating System in that?

@@26-CJ I'm not a Mac user so i'm not 100% sure, but i know Synology does have their apps for macs too.
