      masai geraghty man unfortunately I had to sell that one because I had to move. Without a doubt I will buy another one of these soon. I had that one for a couple of seasons and it was awesome. I took good care of it and it looked great and cooked even better. I highly recommend it. Watch out, they do make a version of this smoker called the wrangler 2 I believe. It’s made with the thinner sheet metal and is a bit cheaper. I’m sure it’s fine for the average guy, but I highly recommend the one in this video with the thick heavy duty steel. This smoker probably weighed about 250lbs+. Even if it gets rust later on, it will still last you a long time, unlike the thinner cheaper models. Good luck man!

    After watching this video. I went and bought one. Wow worked awesome. Smoked hotel ribs. Baby back ribs sausage. Moved the fire plate to my main chamber used it like a baffled plate . it worked great for heat control. Many thanks for the video.

    I have the same smoker and I like it a lot. I drilled a hole next to the smoke stack so I can run my temp probe through it in stead of smashing the wires with the door. I'm planning on changing out my firebox door to put in a better dampener to refine temp control better. It has been a great smoker.

    I am sold on the extra piece of steal you add around the smokestack for table space . Very ingenious. I also have been looking around for the best smoker for myself. You are right about the higher Price smokers on the market today !!!! You get what you pay for . For the past two mouths I have been studying and reviewing web sites and UA-cam. Doing my homework. But I have too say you were very impressive! And I made my decision on buying the wrangler. . Thank you so much ! And also I may add too all that see your video , PLEASE DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!!!!! Thanks and God bless all !!!!👍👍👍👍

    I got an original Oklahoma Joe for free from a neighbor. used only a couple times and the guy had everything in foil pans so it was clean just a little rusty from sitting in the shed for 12 years. doing my first cook on it today and I LOVE it. just a little learning curve from my old cheap offset with fire management and the doors need to be sealed up. but she's pretty nice 😎😎

    I find it funny that your video popped up on my feed, as I have one of these on order now. Good review. Thanks. My Pecos is on it’s way out, after 6 years. I’m going to a shorter cooking chamber with the Wrangler, but I really like that thicker steel. That work table addition is sweet. I’m actually planning to add a cold smoke box where the exhaust stack is. So, I may just add to the existing table.

    I’ve had my Wrangler a few years now. It stays out in the elements. I just painted it with high temp spray paint from WM. It looks new again. It’s perfect for one brisket. I split the point and flat on a brisket a few weeks ago. That’s the best one I’ve done yet. I smoked two turkey breasts for Thanksgiving. Could’ve just as easy done 4. I think it’s the perfect smoker for $500. I’m sure the Pecos or Brazos are equally awesome. It just depends on how big you want and how much you want to spend.

    • @scottsworld21
      @scottsworld21  2 роки тому

      Yeah it’s not huge , but you can still get it done. I have had some of my best briskets with this cooker. I kept mine covered and never had to paint it. But I did with my old one and that paint works like a charm.

    I’m just getting started. I bought a Oklahoma Joe as a starter and I already regret it. Thank God I bought used for cheap. The fire box is bolted on and is two pieces which has a seam around it, most people use a high temperature silicone to seal it. There is a huge gap around the smoke stack also. I guess they’re made to be shipped in a box. Thanks for the review. I need something with thicker metal and wielded opposed to bolted. I’m going to look at the old country for a better start.

    Your so right, I was looking at a Oklahoma Joes BBQ Smoker also, and decided on the Wrangler instead for most of the reasons you stated in your video. The Longer Pecos one has much thinner metal and was flimsy in comparison, like your modified additional table space. Well done.

    Not sure what they are doing today but my Pecos had the same thickness of steel as the Wrangler, just different length. I bought mine in Spring of 2015 - News to me that the construction was of a different thickness - Interesting. Soory, wanted to add, Yes, The Wrangler is a little thicker as far as the body but the Doors are the Fire Box and Smoke Chamber Doors are the same thickness. BTW - I LOVE MY PECOS. 3 Years and still breaking in. Awesome Eats.

I went to see it in Gulfport, MS while visiting family and attending Mardi Gras. These are some of the best smokers I have seen for the price anywhere - Can't wait too use it some time in May- It's still a bit cold in my neck of the woods - Enjoy - Tell me how to get that table - Thanks

      Clarence Dennis congrats man you'll love it, I do. I'm in Detroit now and I definitely wouldn't be cooking either! Me and a friend built the add on table. I went to a steel shop and go a 3/16 sheet( it doesn't need to be that thick, I wish I would have gone a little thinner for weight and easier to cut). I got the 90degree steel corner from Home Depot. And he welded it for me. I painted it with black heat paint and plasti dip. Here's a link to the instructions.

      Man I don’t have the dimensions. I think it’s probably 2.5ft x 2.5 feet or so. Really it was so strong you could do whatever dimensions suit your needs. I went on Google maps and searched for metal shop, or metal supplier, or steel shop. In DFW it was called Metal Supermarket. They have all kinds of stuff. Here is the link that I copied the mod from. If this doesn’t work I’ll add it in the description of the video. Good luck

    Hi Scott, I really liked your fabrication of the side table welded brackets to the exhaust chimney. The only thing I might differ with you is
    with the placement of the exhaust port to the chimney. I think this port might need to be lower on the steel plate to capture as much
    flavoring smoke possible as you are cooking. Other than that, I really enjoyed your video very much. Thanks!

    Nice table! Can you share the dimensions? I saw someone had welded a support between handle and exhaust stack. What grade, cost and dimensions?

    • @scottsworld21
      @scottsworld21  5 років тому +1

      I don’t have the dimensions with me, if I can remember I’ll send them to you. You know I don’t store it with the table on it. And honestly this smoker is well built, and this is the handle used to pick up the smoker and roll around, it’s very strong. I don’t think it will bend down any time soon, but if you have a welder handy, it probably wouldn’t hurt just to have extra support. Thanks!

    Hope you have a receipt....that's not 3/16....looks 1/8.....FYI Academy has had their information off on this from time to time. If it was 3/16 it would weigh over 300 pounds. But I love that added side shelf.

    • @scottsworld21
      @scottsworld21  8 років тому

      it does weight over 300lbs. it was printed on the label by old country not academy. I'm positive it's 3/16. thanks for letting me know though.

    • @andyolsen8420
      @andyolsen8420 8 років тому

      +SCOTT DOYLE the way you tell is the pan warmer on the firebox.....it's the same thickness as that plate. The thicker units do not have that Lshaped plate. It will be like a box shaped and the hinges will not be on the top. But see they trick you. They give you a unit with 3/16 doors and make you think the rest it's 3/16 but it's 11 gage which is the same as the OKJ. However she's welded baby. You have a welded unit which is like gold. But having the doors at 3/16 is better than what the rest of the cheaper units have and are made of. Old country are good pits no matter what and by far the best value. But I inspected them thoroughly in the store and noticed that the door was in fact thicker than the plate used on the actual cooker. Your unit weighs in at 225. Which is still pretty heavy. But if it was all 3/16 it would be almost 350.

    • @scottsworld21
      @scottsworld21  8 років тому

      actually you're right, it's 11ga with 3/16 doors. But it is thicker than OKJ which is 12 ga. Either way I this this is a better smoker, but is also mor expensive.

  • @harryballz6358

    Fyi- Heavy doors have purpose, not just done to fool buyers into thinking the entire grill is made of heavy steel.
    In truth when you lift a door to move /inspect meat cool air hits both sides of a door and it cools down fast.
    But' if a doors made of thick steel the door retains heat way better than a thin tin door that must heat back up again. This just effects your grills heat inside a bit more is all.
    Grill corps know all about this but never offer this extra feature. Of course when a grills body is made of heavy steel the doors already thick anyway. I know the door/body both are extra thick on this nice arse smoker! Hope your still enjoying it freind.
    I'm about to buy one like it, I'm building a roof over it because my Char-Griller rusted out so damn fast. Thin p.o.s. grill but still a roof would add yrs to any smoker. Similar to a small gazebo I guess? They sell small aluminum frame/tarp style roofs for grills pretty cheap online too fwiw...
    Hope your CG cover lasted longer than mine that dry rotted really fast.
    Nice Grill, best brand you'll find in any store thats for damn sure. Appreciate the vid!

      Right on Harry Ballz! Thanks for the feedback. Hell yeah man it’s been a great grill. I actually had to sell it because I moved and I didn’t want to haul that heavy ass smoker, but I was at Academy the other day looking at buying the same one again. It’s a great quality smoker. And you are correct about keeping a roof over it. I bought that great cover and I kept it under a roof. I like to take care of my stuff and make it last. Just a little TLC and this thing will last a very long time! Thanks again brother.

    • @scottsworld21

      Conrad M both. I like the thicker more heavy duty steel (seems like it will hold up longer), and yes the cooking area is a lot bigger. It’s probably the size of the pecos, but with an upper shelf too.

      Carl Hubbard this smoker in the video is the Wrangler. They started last year making the Wrangler II and it was really thin and not very good, but it was a lot cheaper. But I was in Academy two weeks ago and they brought back the original Wrangler like in this video. It is a fantastic smoker as well as the pecos version. Pecos is $399 and this Wrangler is $499. The Wrangler II was $299.

    I would take out that heat deflector completely you don't need it that firebox is low and there ain't no flames that high if you need to cut the flames out put a plate where the upper grate would go and that's below the cooking chamber you're all set You have 3 in for all the heat and smoke to come straight up it's already deflected man

      Scott Geiger no it didn’t. But now they make this wrangler 2 with real thin metal. The pecos is still built strong though and it probably has about the same amount of cooking surface as this one because it’s a bigger smoker

    • @johnwilliams7485
      @johnwilliams7485 7 років тому

      Yes, unfortunately you can't buy this nice, original Wrangler model anymore. The Wrangler 2, that is out now, is vastly cheaper in construction. The wheels are smaller at only 8", the steel is not 3/16 anymore. It's barely 1/8". The Wrangler 2 is not a good buy. It does not seal or hold temp well and I couldn't get the initial temp above 275 on my friend's that he just bought even with split logs and charcoal. The thinner steal radiates too much heat off and out of the cooking chamber. It's always easier to take your initial fire/temperature up to 350 plus and then knock down your dampers to drop the temp down to your preferred cooking range (225, 250, etc.). You can't do that on the new Wrangler 2 model. Clearly Old Country is trying to cut their production costs down by building an inferior product. It's a shame, this used to be a great smoker!

      Cravin Morfish I haven't heard of the wrangler 2. Is that something new? Go look at several Academy Sports and see if you can track down an older one. Also look on Craigslist. I saw on in the DFW area for $150. What a shame if they start building these like their competitors.

      Eric Smith where do you live? I could send you to the places I went to get the stuff. Then I have a buddy who can take it to his work to have it welded. The link below is what I followed. I just guessed on how big to make it. I measured the diameter of the top of the smokestack to figure out how wide to cut the hole around the smokestack. I bought 1- 2 foot bar of 90 degree angled steel. I bought the sheet of steel from a local steel shop. I drilled a bunch of holes and then cut it to fit the smokestack with a grinder.

    I have the same smoker and I like it a lot. I drilled a hole next to the smoke stack so I can run my temp probe through it in stead of smashing the wires with the door.
